15 reviews for Adventure City
This place is adorable! Off of Beach Blvd., way past Knott's, Adventure City is a nicely themed, fun and clean little family amusement park. There's free parking, $14 admission and plenty to do w/the kiddies. Granted, I don't have kids, I still had a great time!
The rollercoaster-fanatic-bf and I came here to ride the Treetop Racer. It was SO fun and we were able to fit in 1 car. We loved it so much we went twice! It's the same kinda mini-coaster as CA Adventure's Mulholland Madness, but w/a few more drops and turns.
The other rides are pretty fun too. There's a petting zoo and plenty of games to play. The food was cheap compared to most amusement parks [large or small]. There are plenty of seats for resting and there are hardly any lines for anything. The employees are super nice, even the jaded teens working their summer jobs.
We had a lot of fun and would come back - with or without kids.
Funny thing about this amusement park is that it's pretty hard to find unless you have navigation/GPS or you really pay attention while you are driving. It's off of Beach Blvd and the location is nowhere near the typical amusement park "atmosphere" -- big parking lots with big signage, etc.
On the flip side, as this is a smaller amusement park, the crowds are not as big and the lines are not as long. You can actually ride most of the rides by mid afternoon.
The park is catered to the young kiddies (probably under 9 years old) and they have a blast on the rides as they can actually ride the rides and not worry about the height requirements.
The rides are pretty fun for the young ones -- very similar to the rides at Camp Snoopy at Knott's Berry Farm. They even have a train ride that goes around the park and it was quite enjoyable.
There was previous rumor that this park was going to close but I think that rumor comes around every year or so, to drum up more business. However, if it does close, you would have missed out on a great amusement park to bring your little ones).
We attended a birthday party here and thank goodness we did which meant only one adult had to pay the park entrance. For $13.95 per person, I say the place isn't worth it. It has a good, clean, carnival feel to it but for the rides and attractions, just search for a coupon and add about $6.00 more and you'd be able to get in to a real theme park, like Knott's Berry Farm down the street.
Food here was just alright too. The pizza's a little on the dry side and what I mean by that is that it was short on sauce and cheese.
They had this puppet show for all around 4:45, but I found it a little boring and unorganized. Even our little one couldn't sit down to watch it for 5 minutes.
Would I come back? Maybe. It would be a good place to visit if you didn't feel like walking and spending a whole day at a theme park.
No lines, inexpensive & PERFECT for kids under 5! My daughter is 3 and we do they usual local entertainment, kidspace, Disneyland, etc. . . . .
I have to say I HATE lines & crowds and when we pulled up I was thinking "um, . . not sure about this area and everything looks kinda closed up", but WOW was I wrong! My peanut loved it and I loved that there were no lines & we didn't have to make a whole day of it. Take your youngster there they'll love it! **PS don't forget your AAA card for a discount**
"There is little room for doubt that the local Disney theme parks and Knott's Berry Farm are world-class fun centers. But for the 10-and-under set, and their parents, Adventure City may be the best all-around amusement park experience.
Adventure City is small, inexpensive, and packed with young-kid oriented rides and attractions. Residing in the Hobby City shopping complex, the two-plus acre park presents nine rides, including the miniature train (a replica of a 1936 steam engine), a vintage carousel, and an airplane ride.
There's a relatively gentle roller coaster, though it still might scare some toddlers. All kids will get a kick out of the Rescue Ride fire engine, which allows young ones to dress up in hats and drive their parents around.
The park also features a classic arcade, a hands-on Thomas the Tank Engine train set, and an outdoor theater where kids are treated to delightful, and sometimes educational, shows.
Other special attractions include the petting farm and the Mount Adventure climbing apparatus, which pits older kids against a mountain replica.
Food is cheap and edible, which is good news since you're not allowed to bring in your own grub. The bathrooms are clean and well equipped for diaper care.
Adventure City also hosts parties. For $199 (plus tax), you can entertain 10 guests with the park's rides, a party room, and food, among other features. Best of all, your child gets to be the engineer on the miniature train! Additional party guests are $16.95 for each child and $9.95 for each adult.
Admission prices for Adventure City are inexpensive by theme park standards and include unlimited use of all rides, shows, and attractions except the climbing wall and arcade. Those with AAA cards can receive a 10% discount on each ticket for up to six people.
The park is open all year long, but the hours vary, depending on the season. In the summer, the hours are Mon-Fri 10am-6pm; Sat-Sun 11am-7pm. In the winter and spring, Adventure City welcomes visitors on weekends and selected holidays for the following schedule: Fri 10am-5pm; Sat-Sun 11am-7pm.
While there's lots to do at Adventure City, this is such a manageable place that great fun can be had without extra stress and exhaustion."
Great place for toddlers. Good value too. Fun rides and the parents can ride along.
Love this Place u dnt spend lot's of money, and u can have fun dnt care abt age.
As I was handed two free tickets to Adventure city, my friend says, "Here you go buddy. Now you can take your son you cheap@$$." I chuckled at the comment and thanked him for his kind gesture. (I've been wanting to take my son here anyways.)
Fast forward two weeks later, my family of three were at the front gates. While we were waiting to be let in, I saw a bunch of kids inside running around and just basically having fun. As the line of people slowly snaked in, I handed our tickets to the attendant. She counted them and asked, "How old is your son?"
I replied, "Two".
"Then your son will also need a ticket". she says.
" ????????"
Okay people, we all know that for kids the magic number is 3, because kids under 3 normally get in for free or at some restaurants, a free meal. But at Adventure City, the magic number is NOT 3, but 12...as in 12 MONTHS!!! ( =/ ) So I had to pay $14 for a ticket for my son. My wife and I were a little annoyed at first, but as the day went by, we forgot all about the stupid 12 months and over rule and just had a good time with our son.
Adventure City is totally geared towards little kids. Kinda like Camp Snoopy at Knott's Berry Farm, but on a lot smaller scale. There's maybe a dozen or so rides, places to throw parties, and even a petting zoo. All very cool if you ask me.
My comadre, Vernica, has been talking about this place since the summer. She went on a field trip with her sons and started raving about the place. I remember it because I used to pass it on my way to work at Disneyland. I remember it being a rinky dink place.
It is rinky dink, but not as bad as it may seem on the outside. It is situated in the middle of a bunch of hobby stores.
Once inside the park, it is like Disneyland, you never really know that you're in the middle of a city. You're immersed in the environment that they set up.
Now, this place won't be popular with kids over a certain age, say 10. My niece, who is 12, enjoyed it, but she doesn't care for the fast rides at the other parks. This suited her well. My godsons, 3 and 2, were in hog heaven.
There aren't that many rides in the place, but it isn't too busy, so kids can go on the rides more than once, unlike places like Disneyland. Also, at $13.95, it is a total bargain. Even if the kids go one two rides and then want to go home, you're not out hte $1,800,735 you would spend at Disneyland. (I'm not knocking the Disneyland Park, I love the place, but it is not made for really small kids.)
There is a Giggle Wheel, like a Ferris wheel, but not sideways. The train was super popular with all the kids. There was a ride where kids could get into emergency vehicles and go around a themed track. They loved that one, too. The airplanes weren't as fun for them, but the older kids liked the Balloon ride. The School Bus ride made them giggle, but they weren't keen on getting on it again. Same thing with the Carousel. The older kids LOVED Drop Zone, which is a scaled down version of a freefall-type ride. The Tree Top Racer roller coaster was down for maintenance, but the older kids were excited about it. The other roller coster, Bumper to Bumper Freeway, was a screamfest. They rode it several times.
The gift shop had things I had never seen in other parks, so I ended up buying some chucheras for my godsons, my niece and her friend.
The park is small. Parents can easily keep an eye on their kids. There aren't many food options there, but there are plenty of seating areas.
We didn't stay for the magic show. They also sell DVDs of the music featured in the park.
This place really made an impression on me. I would be happy to take my godsons again.
Update 3/27 I forgot to mention Brooke! Brooke was the ride operator at the Drop Zone. She allowed my niece and her friend to ride over and over without getting out. She changed up the drop sequences so that they wouldn't get the same ride over and over. I was impressed. Having been a ride operator myself, I know how boring it can get. Brooke was bringing her A game, rechecking for safety each time. You can tell she enjoys her job. So rare to find these days!
Adventure city...a place for kids. I took my baby here for her 3rd bday. This place is made for children under 5, from the rides and shows they have. My daughter loved it here. She went on all the rides, even ones that i thought would be too scary for her. It was great, there were no lines, it wasn't as packed. They even have a little farm there too. The arcade was small but fun. The food not so great. there were no restaurant there since the park itself was small. There were no parking fee which is great. Overall Its a good place to take your kids for a fun, relaxing day.
This is a great little amusement park for LITTLE (and I stress LITTLE) kids. The crowds that you'll find at the usual amusement parks are pretty much non-existant here, and things are very reasonably priced. I liked the pizza, and the roller coaster was pretty fun, even for me! Parking is a piece of cake.
Great for smaller kids who are not yet ready to handle the stress of a fun day at Disney....also good prices would be worth it for a 1/2 day even for a family on a week trip to socal.
Ahh Adventure City. I hate to say it, but I will be kind of happy to see you go when you get demolished to make room for new houses. Don't get me wrong, this is a fun place to take your younger kids for a day of amusement park activities. But it's not a fun place for me to go on a field trip with 100 kids on a 95 degree day in July. No sir.
Complaining about work aside, this place is pretty cute. They have a little working train, a petting zoo (I have a story about this.. we'll get to that in a bit), cute kiddie rides (like a mini rollercoaster that even I'm too timid to try), an arcade, puppet & magic shows, a nice merry-go-round, and decent food vendors. There's also a big party room and a little gift shop. Their snack bar has pizza, salads, chicken strips, burgers, etc and it's actually quite tasty! You'll also find churros and Icees.
I would have been a lucky kid if this place had existed when I was young. But alas, all I had was Hobby City which is sadly closing down. Anyway, onto my petting zoo story. Two years ago I went here for a field trip and hung out in the petting zoo with some of my kids. They have chickens, a huge turtle, sheep, and a goat or two. So it's really hot (in the 90's) and the animals are laying around, all lethargic. There's a sheep just chillin under this tree and one of the goats comes up, climbs on top of him, perches there, and proceeds to pee all over the sheep. The sheep didn't seem to notice or care, but the expression on the kids faces was PRICELESS. I laughed so hard I had to leave. But I couldn't, because the exit was blocked by the giant turtle. The attendant (an annoyed looking teenage boy) had to lift up the turtle to move him and on my way out I noticed that the bottom of the turtle was completely covered in poop.
I love Adventure City!!
I LOVE Adventure City!! I went to Adventure City with my 5-year old son on a summer Saturday. It wasn't too crowded and the lines were very short or nonexistent on most of the rides. This place was perfect for a couple of ride wimps like us. There is a little tiny roller coaster, as well as a larger one, but I was secretly relieved that my son didn't want to go on either.
There's a train, a carousel, a crazy bus ride, an airplane ride that made us very dizzy and several other rides. There's also a puppet show that I thought was cute, but my son laughed so hard he said he couldn't breathe. The petting zoo was too stinky on a summer day. There's a Thomas train play area too. Last but not least, there's the arcade, where I ended up spending most of my money.
There's a main snack bar that serves pizzas, burgers and fries. Plus a couple of other stands that sell Icees and ice cream.
We ended up spending 5 hours there - well worth the $13.95 (minus AAA discount) that we paid to get in!! I highly recommend this place for the little ones! Oh, and parking is FREE!
Great for kids and have a little amusement park in the front of the lot! They also have all these specialized hobby stores in the back! I always loved coming here back in the day to go to the Cabbage Patch Doll store...Wow we dropped a lot of cash there...
I have had my daughters last 2 birthday partys here. It was affordable concidering we had 20 people in our party and alot more fun than most places because of the rides and the fact that people could stay as long as they liked. They give the birthday child there own mini pizza, plus pizza's and drinks for the other kids, we also ordered extra pizza's, sandwiches, fries, drinks, and Starbuck's coffee for the adults. The food was okay, nothing spectacular but it isn't expensive plus we were not there for the food rather the fun. They offer decorations which are included with the party, but if you bring your own decorations, plates, etc. they will do everthing for you, and you get your own party host.
When it's your time for your party the host comes to get your group with this cart that looks like a taxi that has the birthday childs name written on it. The birthday kid sits in the front of it and all there gifts fit in back and the host pushes them to the party room. Cute !
They also give the Birthday child an Adventure City T-Shirt when they call up the birthday kids to go on stage durring the puppet show, plus the birthday child gets to be the conductor on the train that goes around the park.
It is a great place for kids. It is a small park but that is the point, children get tired of walking around big parks and waiting in long lines besides who really wants to carry them or have to push a stroller around in the bigger parks when its all crowded.
There have not been any crowds here the 5 times I have been there. The rides are fun for the kids and the adults seem to enjoy them as well. They have the bus ride and little roller coaster just like Knott's.
If you go late in the day ask for a discount, last time I went a couple hours before closing and it worked.
If you have a birthday party here order a cake from Deco-Facil, it's right next door and there cakes are good, plus they will deliver the cake to Adventure City at what ever time you like so it doesn't have to sit in Adventure Citys small cramped fridge.
Although it isn't Knott's or Disneyland you will get your money's worth here. Your children will be able to ride the rides many times, not have to wait in long lines which keeps them happy and makes for a good time.
