I'm absolutely with the other 2 reviews on here.

I was plagued by acne when I hit college - a weird and very stressful time to be dealing with zits. After visiting NUMBEROUS derms in the Chicagoland area my mom turned on me on to AD and I've never looked back since. This is sort of a medi-spa place where you can get a gazillion different treatments and the best medical attention ever. I have seen both Shannon and Emily and even Dr.Taub has seen me twice when things have gotten really bad. They went through all possible routes before resorting to Accutane which they carefully monitored me on and what has finally cured my skin.

Advanced Dermatology is broken up into 3 sections - Advanced Dermatology, the doctor's office/treatment sector, Skinfo, the store section where you can purchase AD and other top of the line products, and Skinqury which is the research arm of AD. A truly magnificent place devoted to all aspects of the healthcare cycle.

My favorite part of AD is going downstairs to Skinfo to look at all of the amazing products. They have their own line of products and they carry products from all sorts of different companies in many price ranges and skin needs. I trust going here because they are part of AD and the doctors up in the office often prescribe (recommend) which products to pick up downstairs. They even got me hooked on a line of makeup they carry called GloMinerals which I think is 100 times better than any other mineral makeup on the market. Their store also carries outerwear that protects you from the sun and they often have promotional events and skincare events with top experts from around the world.

I was a patient here for two years and was treated for both acne and a couple mole removals.  For my most recent (and last) appointment, I was running a few minutes late (I drive out to the suburbs from Chicago so traffic can sometimes get bad).  Knowing I'd be late, I called ahead from the road and let them know.  They said they had a 15 minute grace period and if I showed up afterwards, they would have to reschedule my appointment.  I told them I would do my best to get there on time.

After racing to get there, I was 16 minutes late for my scheduled appointment.  As I walk into the lobby, I get a phone call saying they had to reschedule my appointment.  I told them I was literally in the lobby and had driven out from the city for this appointment, and they told me it didn't matter, that they had canceled my appointment and had moved on to the next patient.  Completely heartless to a patient of two years.

When they asked me to reschedule my appointment, I told them not to bother.  Don't waste your time here!

I had an appointment for a consultation with Dr. Taub. After waiting an hour, I was told she was behind and I would be seeing someone else. Really? and they still charged the $75 fee and I didnt even see an MD. I am sure they are good, but too busy, I was rushed and felt like I was just a number. The procedure the recommended was over $5000 and Dr. Taub didnt have time to see me even though I ake the appointment to see her. Will not go back.

I used to LOVE Advanced Dermatology and I've been going here for years (about 5 actually)!  That was until lately...

When I first started going, I was seeing Sandra.  She was wonderful... just a lovely person.  Then she moved, so I had to see someone else.  Shannon was the person available to see me and at first I thought she was good, not nearly as awesome as Sandra, but I liked her and she kept my skin almost as clear.

Then she started recommending all sorts of products and told me I had to use a top of the line 30 spf sunscreen for my sensitive skin.  Well, that sunscreen cost me $40 and cause extreme dryness to my skin.

I called the "skinfo" store, which is owned by Dr. Taub, talked to the manager, Kelly, but she assured me that the sunscreen couldn't have caused it.  They wouldn't let me exchange it but told me I could try some sample skin creams.

Then I went to see Shannon for a check up and she told me the sunscreen definitely can cause the dryness because of the zinc.  She asked if they let me exchange it for something else, I said no but they gave me some moisturizers/ creams to try.  Then she said she didn't want me putting any creams on my face because it could clog my pores, and she's rather me use a serum.

So I went to the Skinfo store for the serum.  They were out... my skin needed that stuff.  But the girl working was happy to recommend another serum, one "exactly" like the other one.  So I asked if it was also the same price.  Nope... it was about double.  Uh, no thanks.  I don't want to pay $70 for more products that may not work.

I was absolutely furious!  I called the dr. office and asked to talk to Shannon, she wasn't in.  They said Dr. Taub was in and would call me back.  So I received a call, but it was from a nurse, not the Dr...  She told me to use the stuff for my arms on my face... okay, whatever.

    Next problem...

Then I make my appt to have a mole removed.  I went in, waited for about 25 + minutes (usually it's 45-1hr wait).

Then I go in, the nurse goes over what I am having done.  I tell her that Shannon is also supposed check to see if there are any other questionable moles.  The nurse asks if I have any that I'm concerned about and I reply that I don't know... that's why Shannon was going to check because I'm not trained to know what's okay and what's not...

She then tells me that the stitches will stay in for two weeks, and I cannot do exercises with my upper body, for example using an elliptical.  I asked why, because I have a 24lb 9month old son who is like a wiggle worm and I'm constantly having to lift him.

She told me that if it comes open then it will have to heal as an open wound and they can't do anything about it.  Then she tells me how to pick up my son, so I don't use my chest... yeah, I know I'm supposed to lift with my legs...

I'm guessing they don't have infants, and if they do, they must not be very active, because I am constantly try to hold my son as he climbs all over me!

So I tell the nurse that I am going to have to wait on the procedure because it's too difficult right now.  She said that she will have Shannon come and talk to me.

Well, I made my decision to leave and Shannon asked me to come into the room.  She lectured me for giving her nurse a hard time and told me I was making a bigger deal about it. She said she knows about all of the other issues I've had, and she thinks I always make a bigger deal out of things.

I told her that I know other clients of the office that have had issues to and she because EXTREMELY defensive.  She told me (as she was pointing her finger sternly at me) that I have no right to say anything bad about the office as she works very hard to give patients better treatment that they would get at any office.

She was very emotional (I was too because I was annoyed!), but completely unprofessional.  She said that I can decide to leave, but I may have cancerous cells and I would be making a bad decision.  I told her that I did not want to have a mole removed by someone that has an attitude toward me.

She said I had the attitude and that I can just make the decision to reschedule then.  She also told me sarcastically that my baby is not going to get any smaller.

Then as I was walking out I shook my head to myself out of disbelief.  Then she said, "Don't shake your head at me.  You are rude."

... I'm just glad I didn't let her take that scalpel to my chest!

My initial experience with Advanced Dermatology was GREAT. I loved Emily Rubenstein and Steven Prus.  They treated me like an intelligent patient, answered my concerns, and took care of my acne without judgement.  The nurses take my blood expertly and painlessly.  I found the front desk slightly cold, but I was willing to deal with that and the commute (I live in the city) in order to get this wonderful service from doctors and nurses.

And then I started to have some problems about halfway through my treatment.  The medicine I am on makes my lips extremely dry and chapped.  I use aquaphor which helps a lot, but with this medicine there is only so much you can do. I go in for my appointment with a different doctor.  She scolds me like I am a five year old saying that I cannot lick my lips because it makes the chapping worse. I just nod my head.  Then, she snaps at me "And don't tell me you don't do that because I just saw you lick your lips!" I just sat there in shock.  Yes, I did lick my lips and I know it makes it worse.  But what am I supposed to do when I have been waiting for you for 20 minutes without a chapstick?  That same visit I had a different nurse take my blood.  She spent about five minutes talking about how small my arms and veins are and that she's not sure which vein will be easiest to draw blood.  Comforting.

My next incident involved receiving ANOTHER PATIENT's prescription.  My prescription can only be refilled within a 7 day window and I didn't notice this mistake until 3 days later.  I call advderm and they let me come in and get the new prescription.  They were completely rude to me as if it was my fault.

Finally, this morning I called in to get my prescription and am told that advderm did not confirm my prescription with the provider.  Again it is 3 days into my window.  You would have thought I would have learned by now, huh? So now I am waiting to be called back when they open so I can hopefully get my prescription filled today.

I searched and searched and searched for a dermatologist that i could see myself going to for years. The search is OVER. The drs at Advanced Derm are awesome. I've been going here for the past 3 months now. Since Dr Taub typically booked months and months in advance, I've been seeing her assistant, Shannon. Shannon is great! Awesome personality and not the run of the mill derm that takes 2 seconds to look at you and prescribe you everything under the sun. Since going to Advanced Dermatology, my skin has been looking better and better :)
