Thanks to a doozy car accident many years ago, I've had various hip and spine issues my entire life. I also just had to have a total hip replacement. Which came out great, but during the healing process I decided to see a PT to see if we could accelerate things a bit. I've seen a few PTs over the years, but have never had very satisfactory results. But after this hip surgery, I thought I'd give PT one more try.

I Yelped, and found Dr. Ching. Wow, all those 5-star reviews! Long story short, he listened, manipulated, advised, and manipulated some more. After every visit, my healing pains were soothed, and I had much better range of movement. After each visit, I followed his exercise plan. And was feeling much better for the next visit.

He has a lot of orthopedic experience, which was valuable to me. But, as his website shows, he has a lot of experience in a number of areas, and a very impressive education.

If I could give him 10 stars, I would. Thanks a lot, Dr. C!

This is a review on Deanne Smith. In the case of this review, five stars are not enough. I have been in treatment with Deanne for well over two and three quarter years--off and on. Our relationship started after a car accident that has been an ordeal to heal from. I followed Deanne to this new location and drive out of my way for treatment by her. Not only has she sold me on the value of physical therapy, but I feel what she has taught me in the process of my healing has already proven to be a great enhancement to my life and to my future.

She is a very devoted physical therapist. Deanne has helped me move an arm that was swollen stiff, deal with a frozen shoulder, and how to manage a neck that leaves me flat on my back for days. After a recent shoulder surgery her work with me had the surgeon making comments on how fast the recovery was. Deanne has taught me to manage nerve damage and chronic pain that otherwise would make me want to give up and spend too much time thinking about the my boo boos. What I like best about Deanne is that she knows how to treat the whole person--and she is good at it.

Deanne blows away all the other physical therapists that I have been to. She has loaned useful books, done work that gets results and given great advice on how to heal and manage injuries to the point that I want to share how good she is with other Yelpers out there!

Alton Ching saved my back! Among other things, he is an OMT - Orthopedic Manual Therapist - which goes far beyond the typical physical therapy practice.

I suffered a disc injury in December 2006 (3 hours chipping ice from my parents' driveway in Wisconsin!). I lost the reflexes in my left leg and felt the pain! I went to an acupuncturist, then a chiropractor, and finally a neurological surgeon who said I needed back surgery. Luckily, I met Alton through the San Carlos Chamber of Commerce.  I was impressed with his knowledge, his personal concern, as well as his shiny new facility (with gym) in San Carlos. He began treating me in late February 2008, and within a month, my reflexes were back to normal (without surgery). I continue on an exercise program he prescribed to strengthen my back so I can avoid disc problems in the future. I'll also avoid chipping ice!

After having surgery on my back and spine, I was referred to Dr. Alton Ching by UCSF for physical therapy.  I met with Dr. Ching twice a week where he constantly monitored my progress and developed a recovery program for me based on my mobility, strength, lifestyle and progress.  The man knows his stuff and always took the time to explain to me why my body is doing what it's doing, because of the operation.

Now granted everyone's body is different and I had some exceptional surgeons work on me, but by following Dr. Ching's instructions daily, I can honestly say that in less that 10 sessions I was close to being 100% recovered.  I no longer have any pain resulting from the surgery. Not only can I perform daily functions w/o being reminded that I had major spinal/back surgery, I have no problem engaging in physical activities like bike riding, swimming, cardio-workouts and even heavy weightlifting at the gym.

Call it extraordinary physical therapy, but in some regions of this world they would burn people like Dr. Ching at the stake for practicing witchcraft. No joke!

Without going into too much detail about my various injuries at different times, which run the gamut from neck and shoulder tension down the back and finishes off with multiple sprained ankles, I highly recommend Dr. Alton Ching at Advance Physical Therapy.  In addition to his professional, easy-going personality and solid knowledge of the body and rehab, he is trained in orthopedic manual therapy.  His first consultation with you will consist of gentle bodywork with lots of questions to determine your level of pain and your body's reaction to his techniques.  Over a series of treatment you will see and feel yourself improving in strength and mobility very quickly.

If you've been through or are going through other therapy programs without the results you need, give Dr. Ching a try.  Better yet, save time and just go see him directly.  At the very least, I can guarantee that his recommendations will be an excellent complement to whatever you are trying at the moment.

It took a lot of patience, but when I was finally done with back rehab it felt better than ever.

Snagged a line drive playing third base on pure reflex.  I was shocked how easily I moved.

Got back on the golf course and was really launching the ball.  Not used to so much back strength that I was flying the greens and had to go down a club.

    Great results as usual.

Dr. Alton Ching is an excellent PT. He knows his stuff and is very up on the latest techniques. I was recommended to him by another patient whom I know and have been happy with the results. Alton has helped strengthen up an old injury and improve things quite a bit for me. I recommend him.

So do many others which is why he's extremely busy. However, I've found him to to be very accommodating, especially if you need help now! He'll stay late to work with you which is rare.

In one word... AMAZING!!! I've had chronic back & leg pain since age 12. I've seen numerous PT's, chiropractors, massage therapists, accupuncturists, pain management doctors & have gone through a major surgery... None of which solved my problem... Until I met Dr. Alton Ching! I'm pain free for the first time in 15 years! This place is incredibly professional and he knows his stuff. I highly recommend this place to anyone searching for physical therapy.

I started seeing Dr. Alton Ching after I tore my patellar tendon in my knee about 2 years ago. This was actually my second knee surgery I had (the other was an ACL on my other knee). I was dreading the physical therapy part as I know how difficult it was before...but Dr. Ching made it much more bearable. He really knows his stuff and helped explain not only what I should be doing....but why I should be doing certain exercises. He also was very thorough by keeping in touch with my orthopedic surgeon during my first few months of rehab...making sure he was updated on my progress and making sure things were coming along the way it should.

Dr. Ching knows how to make you work hard while keeping you motivated. He knows that I will only be satisfied when I am 100% back to the way I was before...and he was able to help me do it. Now I am back doing all the crazy stuff I was doing before...and I know I couldn't have gotten back so quickly without his help and motivation! I highly recommend Dr. Ching!

Dr. Ching does wonders! Great, personable guy...great bedside manners. I did 6 weeks of acupuncture for my tennis elbow, to no effect..6 weeks with Dr. Ching and it was almost completely relieved! I've recommended him to several other people. Go to Dr. Ching!

I too had a super experience with Dr. Ching at Advance Physical Therapy. My doctor referred me to him because one of her other patients found him to be very successful in relieving her pain.

I had back pain probably from too many days skiing, mountain biking or who knows what. I've been cautious about seeking surgery. Dr. Ching confirmed my feeling that the pain could be addressed without a knife. After he asked a lot of questions and thought about it quite a bit, he tried a stretch and a combination of exercises that have done the trick. I no longer have any pain. I was feeling better after just a few weeks of visits.

I now continue the stretching / strengthening routine that Dr. Ching showed me each day. It's fantastic. I think he really has an inquisitive mind and he wants to get to the route of the problem. His approach was much more effective for me than seeing a chiropractor which I did for almost a year with no significant success. I recommend trying him before seeing anyone else, especially a surgeon!
