Review from Natasha C.
Delray Beach, FL
We were in town on vacation and got a tip from the local kayak tour folks that this was the best place to get seafood in town. We were not disappointed, as all the fish was fresh caught that day, perfectly seasoned and paired with some delicious veggies. I had blackened salmon, my SO blackened halibut, and our friends had the Skagit magic burger, the wee piano salad, and the green dragon curry steamer. Paired with edamame as a starter, this was a delightfully filling repast.
The atmosphere, like the town of Anacortes, is relaxed, serene and kitschy. Nautical references, old books, and copper clad tables everywhere paired with hues reminiscent of the ocean, we felt quite cozy while we dined. -

Went here for lunch looking for some good seafood. Like other yelpers have stated this place is a bit pricey. My m om ended getting the crab cakes which were size of umm an American half dollar. Although tasty at the end she stated "can we go get lunch after this." I got the vegetarian tofu burger/sandwich. Mine was a bit bigger and I quite enjoyed mine. It was nice to see a restaurant go away from the standard veggie burger and into a nice well seasoned tofu burger slice. So with my mom giving it 3 stars and me giving it 4 I went with three.
One extra thing I enjoyed was the decor being the books that surrounded me while I ate. My mom didn't like that all to much as I wasn't paying attention to her but yet reading "how to understand the star" as when you eat here you are surrounded by used books for sale apparently. I did not buy any cause I cleaned out my credit card paying for the two lunches and two drinks. SO you definitely pay for the organic side of it. -

Kirkland, WA
The food is roughly 4 stars. But not 5. The fish tacos I had were fresh, basic and very good. Loved the chipolte mayonnaise that came with them A star comes off for the pricing which is excessively high for what you actually get. The $10.00 main menu grilled cheese sandwich would be an example of this.
The service was "local". What I mean by this, is that I really dislike being treated like a tourist. Adrift ran out of Red Snapper for my fish tacos. They suggested I sub Halibut. No problem, until my bill arrived and then Adrift suddenly wanted to charge me an additional $4.00 for the halibut substitution. The menu didn't state the add and our waitress didn't mention the potential upcharge at the time either. After mentioning the added charge on our bill, our waitress noted that is what it cost them to serve it to me. Then she actually told me " No one has complained about this before."
To put it mildly, I remained resolute, as I don't mind being the first. In fairness to the waitress, after she left and came back, she had removed the extra charge and made it a point to say that she hoped the pricing issue did not ruin my dining experience at Adrift. And she was genuinely nice about it. But the damage was already proverbially done.
I think it is worth it for people to at least try Adrift, as long as they exercise caution going in. It obviously would have been a better experience for us if Adrift addressed my legitimate concern the first time around.... without trying to make me feel bad that I raised the issue in the first place.
Sidebar: Just an opinion... but if Adrift is out of something on their menu, it is their responsibility to make it right (same price) with what they do have on-hand. They shouldn't have tried to pass along the extra charge to the customer anyway. -

I had a gift certificate that I held onto for a long time. We were greeted/seated right away. Our waitress was very VERY perky and friendly and helpful. Beautifully decorated restaurant, you can watch the chefs cook up your food if you sit at the bar! The food was impeccable! I had the blackened catfish with broccolini and linguine with some kind of super-delicious sauce. My date had a different catfish dish with a sundried-tomato aioli, also delicious. And for dessert we both got key-lime tartlets. We normally never order desserts, but we had the certificate and we were on a cutesy date. Such a good time! I can't wait to go back.

Minneapolis, MN
Unfortunately when you live in Minneapolis, you're far away from the wonderful seafood on the coasts. Luckily, we were on vacation in Seattle and drove up to Anacortes to visit a friend and got to enjoy a wonderful dinner at Adrift. The restaurant is especially charming with its book shelves surrounding each table, but the food is what stole the show. Our party of three devoured salmon tacos, halibut and the Dungeness crab au gratin. Oh My God. They were all delightful and amazing and awesome, but if I were on death row and had the ability to eat one last thing, the Dungeness crab au gratin would be my order.
This is an adorable place with phenomenal food and shouldn't be missed if you're visiting Anacortes and looking for a fabulous meal. -

Sigh.... This is where we got engaged!
It's a great location that is actually much bigger than it appears when you first walk in. We had the crab au gratin and it was... wait for it.... TO DIE FOR! Delish! I love that they use local ingredients. It's a little pricier because of that, but well worth the freshness and flavor. Their menu is really extensive and the staff goes the extra mile... thanks to the Adrift staff for making our engagement ahhhmmaazzzinnggggg! We will be back many, many times in the future! -

Anacortes, WA
This is by far my favOrite place to dine on a regular basis. Great meat and seafood. Fresh veggies from local farms. Creative menu - changes weekly. Desserts to die for!
Yes, we have several good eats in A Town, but Adrift is the place for consistently tasty food with options for those of trying the organic, locally sourced, gluten-free options lifestyle.
But the best part about going to Adift - Zeedie! Tell her I said "Hi GF!" when you go. She's the bomb! You'll ask for seconds! -

Benicia, CA
I just moved from Benicia, CA where every restaurant has a delicious and fresh menu. A coworker who also recently moved from Benicia to Anacortes recommended Adrift saying it was comparable to what I was used to and he was so right! The food was fresh and flavorful. The owner was my server @ lunch when we had the polenta and the blackend Halibut fish tacos. Went back for dinner and was disappointed with the sweet potato pork tacos... to soggy. The fresh pasta was delish. Good wine pairings and a rustic ambiance made it an Anacortes must. My new favorite restaurant.

This place is the real deal and it's truly excellent!
My wife and I came here for dinner one night and were blown away by the food. We were on our way to the San Juan Islands by ferry and spent the night in Anacortes, but didn't know where to eat, so we thought we would try it out.
The crab cake was the best I have ever had, and our main courses were top notch. Everything was very fresh, with lots of unique flavors, and served in a beautiful fashion.
We liked it so much that we came back for lunch on our way out of the San Juan Islands, which caused us to miss our next ferry - but it was worth it!
Definitely give this place a try! -

Four of us ate here during the tulip festival. The food was excellent and atmosphere relaxing. Service was probably not as good as usual due to the large number of guests (probably from the tulip festival). While the prices initially seemed higher than other similar restaurants, we soon realized when the food came that you get a good "bang for the buck." The four of us could have easily split two meals.

Thank you, Yelpers! Without the reviews, I probably wouldn't have even noticed this place, much less visited.
A hidden jewel on the main strip. The food is a true culinary treat. Fresh foods with great flavor. It was like being back in Napa! It's a little pricey, but worth it for the excellent flavors and combinations. Will definitely go again.

This is a wonderful and unexpectedly cool place. I was completely surprised at just how perfect the atmosphere was. I love all of the local show posters in the bathroom, the bookshelves, the great wall art.
Anyways, their food is good- they have a huge menu with smart ingredients. Also a pretty big beer and wine list. Adrift is just so unexpected in a tiny town like Anacortes. I really like the cilantro jalapeno mussels and their oysters. Their bread is out of control good, goes perfectly with the crab au gratin.
They also have really good service. I would recommend reservations. -

What a hidden treasure. We happened upon this place thanks to Yelp while spending a day in Anaortes.
What a pleasant surprise. Very good food.
We ordered quesadilla (kids), steamers with clams and mussles, frenzy (crab/egg) scramble and the crab au gratin.
The quesadilla came with a wonderful fresh pear. It was very cheesy and the kids liked it.
The sauce that came with the steamers (drunken) was a white wine sauce and was quite good. It was not only very good on the clams/mussels but the sauce was also fantastic on the bread. The clams and mussels were cooked perfectly and not at all strongly flavored or tough. THey were done right (which is rare even in this area).
The frenzy was good but the flavor was a little bland compared to my other options. Nothing wrong with it. Eggs cooked properly. The grilled mashed potatos that came with the dish werre the best possible accompaniment.
The au gratin was certainly the standout. It is great on the bread provided as well as the multigrain toast (w/ frenzy). Flavor is great. Wonderful texture especially with the cheese on top. A new favorite. -

Cute dining room for ~50 people
Daily Burger special with gorgonzola, bacon and sweet peppers, medium rare sub salad (clam chowder) rather than fries and kettle chips. Oh yeah this is good
IPA in the PNW? You bet ya
Others jumped in on tuna sandwich pan fried oysters which were enjoyed.
If you're a local, you know. If you're passing through, you'll hear about it.
Come on in, the water's fine. The food damn good too. -

I ordered the crab au gratin and it was awsome! I plan to come back and try to get everything off the menu once! Sat outside on the patio, nice quiet view of sown town and saw two deer roam by! We even got free cookies! The staff is really friendly! Looking forward to returning.

Had a lovely late evening meal here after spending the day in Skagit Valley to attend the tulip festival, and general tooling about in Anacortes, Samish Bay, etc. Walked in about 40 minutes before they closed on a Wednesday night, hungry and tired after a very full day. We were greeted warmly and seated immediately at a nice table next to some bookcases loaded w/ old books (for sale!). There were several other tables filled with families and couples, but it wasn't too busy, so we had our servers full attention, and she was perfectly attentive.
My BF enjoyed a Dungeness Crab au gratin dish that was piping hot and divine. I ordered and then devoured their grass fed beef burger ($11) which was cooked to medium-rare perfection with avocado and caramelized onions. And our 4 year old daughter had a HUGE quesadilla (from their kids menu!) that was made w/ 2 different cheeses. Gouda? Queso fresca? I don't know, but it was smokey and delicious. We washed it all down with a Pt. Townsend, WA brewed hard cider that was also very yummy. To top everything off, we then shared a piece of Pineapple Upside Down cake, which is made in house. The cake was sadly the least impressive thing we ate IMO, but my BF & the kid liked it.
I'd definitely go back for dinner, or perhaps lunch, whenever we're next in Anacortes. -

This is a great spot for an upscale lunch! I had the burger with gorgonzola cheese and oven fries for a $11. Great service, fresh, local delicious.
Note: They only have one bathroom. Which is fine. Until you're in line behind a group of 11 international males on an eco tourism trip. fml! -

Nice atmosphere, and nice little restaurant.
The menu uses mostly locally produced foods and locally grown meats. The menu is creative and everything sounded so good.
I had the Skagit Burger. 1/2 lb if grass fed Skagit valley beef with white cheddar, caramelized onions and grilled jalapenos. It was so delicious. The bun was freshly made. It was served with herb seasoned freshly cut and fried potatoes.
He had the Frenzy breakfast which was scrambled eggs with crab and sour cream, along with a potato patty (mashed/seasoned potatoes grilled into a light airy patty).
Although they were a little slow to initially come greet our table, once she got our food order they were extremely attentive.
Overall the bill was 30, which I felt, given the quality was reasonable.
Next time I'm in Anacortes, I know I have a great option available. -

I had the scallops and kale/leeks with potato croquette. My boyfriend had the mediterranean spiced lamb burger with fries. We took the order to go, so that might be part of the reason that I didn't have a mind-blowing experience as other yelpers have. The atmosphere of the restaurant and the staff were a pleasure and the soup we had while waiting for our to-go order was fantastic.
My scallops were a bit tough for my liking and the seasoning was bland. I typically like a smooth scallop taste with a crispy sear on the outside. These were smaller scallops and didn't have the soft, buttery texture that I enjoy from my diver scallops.
WIll be back to try dining at the restaurant. My taste of the burger and the fries that I ate were pretty good too. -

Ate here for a b-day dinner with my parents, and we were blown away by the food, drinks and service. The wine selection was great, the crab au gratin appetizer was out of this world (no skimping on crab, here!), the burgers and crab tacos were delish, and the crisp of the day was amazing. To top all this amazing food off, our waitress, Tasha, was just adorable and really made the meal into a wonderful evening. Thank you, Adrift!

Was taken to the Adrift by a local friend of ours who loves the place...and I can completely see why!
Adrift was really busy during lunch so we sat at the beautiful copper counter and got to watch the action in the kitchen...which was awesome! The assault on the olfactory was incredible...watched one of the guys bring together a curried chicken and rice soup with some butter roux, as well as watching the baker bringing out the fresh house made buns out of the oven. Had to buy one as it came out of the oven, slathered it in butter...mouth-gasim! The baker? She smiled as if to say "another one falls into my power". Watched another gent breaking down a fresh halibut with a journeyman's precision, and was really impressed with how well kitchen moved, and how clean they kept the place at the same time.
Service from the gent running the counter was prompt considering they where rocking, and he made some great recommendations for our lunch and a nice wine by the glass option too.
I had the stuffed burger, locally grown beef, (half pounder because I was feeling cocky) and it came with local bacon, and was served on one of those amazing rolls...awesome! The fries that came with the burger where a nice twist! Not a fryer in the house to be seen, and the fries where oven baked with onion and chopped garlic that came out sweet and roasted with the fries. Had to leave some of the fries though...that buger put me down.
What I love is in talking to the folks and my friend, who is there a couple of times a week, is that the Adrift is culinarily inventive, local products, and a group of people that really are passionate about the product, service, and experience. Next time we come up from Seattle, we are going to make a point of doing dinner...for a couple of hours...and getting rolled out of the place. -

Cool atmosphere. Cordial help. Amazing pan fried oysters. Average ruben for my wife. The french fries looked amazing, but were hard and must have been sitting there for a few hours before they were served. With all that said, it was a cool place with good food. They get a pass on the fries because everyone makes a mistake here and there. Besides, they gave us an amazing chocolate chip cookie as we walked out the door for free. It's worth the visit.

Originally our intrepid work group was going to have dinner at the Majestic Inn, but unfortunatley, the main dining room is closed on Mondays. Looking for a suitable alternative, we crossed the street and wandered in to Adrift. What a neat find!
The only negative thing about our experience was that it took a very long time for the food to come out. Minus 1 Star.
Past that, the food (featuring local and organic ingredients) was excellent and was enjoyed by all. On our table was the stuffed pork chop, crab au gratin, the burger special, fish tacos, and scallops. I also thought that wait staff were friendly, very attentive, and well versed in the food and drink choices. The deserts were also very good. I particularly enjoyed the Key Lime tart, while others had ice cream and a dish appropriately named "Chocolate Shipwreck".
I also enjoyed the eclectic and very comfortable main dining room with the nautical themes, the library books for sale, and the copper tables. Even the bathroom was whimsical with "Either or Both" written on the door. -
Review from Brandi P.
In Anacortes with the mister visiting a friend (and a couple of her *terrific* friends.) We had reservations at Adrift for 8:30, but due to a carsick pooch I was running behind the whole day... picked up the mister late in Seattle, which resulted in arriving late in Anacortes, which, well, you get the picture.
So we got to the place a little late. What was weird though, was that we sat for a really long time before anyone came over to ask about drinks. The server was very apologetic when she did come by, but it was definitely long enough for us (five total) to wonder about if we were being punished for tardiness. Oh well.
Nice (and somewhat surprising) wine list, and really good food! Mister and I split a pound of mussels and clams in a terrifically spicy broth pot (possibly with a bit of saffron?) that was so much more interesting than the usual garlic/butter/white wine reduction steam. Unfortunately the bread that was brought with this was pretty crumbly and dry and didn't exactly 'sop.' Then, we're more about the dish itself, so no biggie.
We split the baked fish (they were out of snapper, so went with the halibut) served with soft polenta and broccolini. All very good... halibut came with an interesting sun dried tomato sauce/paste on top, and the polenta was nice, if a little bland. That said, who wants an overwhelming side with something as sublime as well-done halibut?
Do I sound slightly ambivalent? Adrift is really, very good, particularly for a town the size of Anacortes. Maybe another visit would push this into five stars, or maybe I'm spoiled by Portland, but I'm just not there yet.
Oh yeah, local, fresh, organic, blah blah blah. :) -

First - let me pay homage to Yelp(via blackberry) for leading me to this delightful place.
Now... This gets a five star review from me because it matches every single quality to the highest degree that I search for in a food joint. Great food (creative, tasty, fresh), good prices, great service, and a wonderful atmosphere. If there was a 'six-star' option - I would have given it to Adrift.
The food was splendid. Everything is farm fresh, locally grown, and delicious. You are served an all around good meal with anything you get. Looking at the menu, I started salivating. You will see some common occurrences but made in their own inspired way - they twist everything to make it both different and better. Personally, I got the poached halibut which comes with a green curry sauce, coconut milk sweet mashed potatoes, baby bok choy, and cinnamon beans. Mhmm. Good. Filling. Light. Shared at my table was also some fresh salmon, delicious hearty polenta, crispy Oysters, and a great fried crab cake. Seriously everything deserved 5 stars.
Dessert had it's own uniqueness and deserves it's own paragraph. All of the desserts looked wonderful but we decided to go with ice cream. My choice was coconut. Every ice cream is made locally on neighboring Lopez island, and it definitely was smooth, rich, and pallet pleasing. The chocolate sauce had some sort of rum in it. That's not all... this comes with candied pecans and some fresh made whipped cream on top. I mean really? To die for.
The ambiance of this little cafe/bar/restaurant is just the cutest: Swanky, Cocky, Quaint, yet forceful. I really enjoyed their style from their decor, to their layout, to the building itself. It is really an art form and the food that is produced lives up to that bar.
I know Anacortes isn't any usual stop for most folks, but if you happen to be traveling to any of the San Juan Islands, leave time for Adrift. You will be glad you did.
One of the Best Restaurants in WA state... trust me.

Review from Amie S.
Seattle, WA
A lot of people drive through Anacortes on their way to the San Juan Islands ferries and never stop to check out downtown. To those people I say: fools! You don't know what you've been missing! The historic downtown has your typical 2-block commercial area with cute restored buildings housing shops and restaurants. Among these, though, is a real gem - Adrift. This fantastic little eatery draws me in again and again.
The menu here is enough set your mouth watering and make you forget you actually planned to set sail away from this place. As an added bonus, the dishes are chock-full of full of local and organic ingredients, including grass-fed Skagit beef. I've sampled the menu for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and as is my tendency I have a preference for breakfast (chai oatmeal and fried egg sandwich, yes!). Really, though, you can't go wrong here. At least, I have yet to.
Adrift has a warm and eclectic feeling. The decor is a rustic nautical theme, with the occasional buoy, model ship, or net reminding you that you are "adrift" in a seaside town. Works by local artists line the walls. Some of the furniture pieces are lovely creations crafted from solid driftwood. There are a variety of seating options, from pulling up a stool at the bar to sinking into a leather sofa to snagging a small, private corner by the fish tank. A few tables are tucked between bookshelves filled with miscellaneous vintage books encompassing everything from Dick and Jane stories to survivalist manuals. These make great conversation pieces, and if one really strikes your fancy, all books can be purchased for $5 on the spot.
If you have a little one with you who's not ready to delve into the reading material, the staff keep some toys handy to entertain the kids. This is definitely a kid-friendly establishment!
Oh, and did I mention Adrift hosts live music on weekends? Long story short: great food, great atmosphere, goofy books, live music - what could be better?Listed in: Loco for Locavores

Great food and our server, Zeedie, was stellar. Everything she recommended was amazing.
My wife LOVED her Beet Happening salad and Veggie Starts (roasted potatoes sauteed with local seasonal veggies like cauliflower, broccolini and zucchini). I had the Caesar salad and tomato-parmesan brisque, which was the best I've ever had. Everything is fresh made, most items have organic ingredients and it seems that there is an effort to buy local whenever possible.
Zeedie was really sweet, very attentive and knew the menu inside and out. If you get a chance to stop here, you won't be disappointed. -

Do yourself a favor.....GO!!! Must admit, we almost didn't. Cannot judge by a first glance. We wandered in the early afternoon to check it out and even though they were busy a very personable young lady greeted us immediately. Checked out the dining area and made a reservation for later that evening. Our server Tasha, made excellent suggestions and our meals were amazing!!!! Could not have asked for anything better.

yep. still good.
came back on saturday for lunch to get the polenta i never got last time. polenta is one of those things i don't really like to order cuz i've had really good polenta once and it's been ruined since. adrift didn't disappoint. the sausage that i ordered with it (chicken?) was better than if i had gotten a sausage that wasn't healthy for me and had a lot of good spice and full flavor. sauce on the polenta had a little kick and the polenta the right consistency. love the artichoke that was inside of it.
also got corned beef stew, no complaints there. i snagged bites for my bf's blast sandwich (can't say enough how good their bacon is...) & i don't eat/like seafood normally... but their crabcakes are DELICIOUS TOO.
service was still great, and like i said last time most of their menu items are right on that upper end where it's borderline pricy but you can care less cuz the food is bomb
ready to go back anytime-- good thing they aren't in seattle or i'd be broke and obese1 Previous Review: Show all »

After reading such glowing reviews, I had high hopes that Adrift would provide a mouthwatering, outstanding meal during our visit to the quaint city of Anacortes this weekend. Our meal however, was the exact opposite. We had the Tomato Parmesan soup, it was extremely salty (and I am not one to limit my salt intake) and oddly gritty, almost inedible. We also had the Troller Tuna sandwich. It sounded promising, but when it arrived, it was a unremarkable mash of ingredients, whose only distinct flavor was celery. I really wanted to like this place, I'm all for restaurants that source locally, but unfortunately, this was the worst lunch I've had in quite some time.
Regarding the restaurant itself, it was quaint, as many reviewers have mentioned, they have material hanging from the ceiling to mimic sails and bookshelves lined one wall. I found it odd that they only had one, unisex bathroom for customers and a deli squeeze bottle that you have to invert to dispense their soap.
Addressing the service we received, it was also lacking. Both our table and the table next to us had to flag down and get up and ask the waitress directly for beverages. We weren't made aware of the day's specials and her demeanor was indifferent at best. For the price bracket, I expected more. -

I love this place. This is THE place to eat in Anacortes. The vibe is cool and beachy and they try to use as much local fare as possible.
My faves:
dragon curry clams: so so yummy. Rich green curry sauce, fresh manila clams and the best, crusty bread for dipping. I seriously spooned the creamy sauce into my mouth as if it were soup. yum
Poke: Wow. I NEVER order raw fish at a non-sushi restaurant but someone suggested I try it... The most succulent poke ever. The tuna was nicely marbleized and melted in your mouth, and the sauce was nicely salty and acidic.
Bahn Mi: Now, I would not call this a Bahn Mi... It was super tastey but definitely not the pickled veggie, vinegar-ey, taste that identifies it with the Vietnamese fare. But, it was delish non the less.
All in all, I love this place, the wait staff, the food, the atmosphere!!!
