Most people don't seem to walk down Locust between 18th and 17th Streets when they're in the Rittenhouse area - and they really miss out since one of Philadelphia's premiere boutiques is located right there!
Adresse, owned by the fashionable and oh-so-amazingly friendly couple Stephanie and Michael, is definitely the most beautiful and tasteful boutique I have ever stepped into, and the clothing and accessories inside reflect that aesthetic. They handpick every item they offer in store from top designers - Lanvin, Lela Rose, Salvatore Ferragamo, Leifsdottir (Ie, Anthropologie's fancy label), among many others - and everything is displayed with thoughtful artistry. The front area is where the majority of the clothing is, downstairs is where they keep their collection of gowns, while the back room past the lovely changing rooms is mostly shoes - desirable, covetable, oh dear lord why don't I own these shoes?! And if you didn't notice the bling underneath the front counter, go back and check it out - fabulous, probably one of a kind pieces, and mostly vintage.
Plus, if the owners themselves aren't around, you will be catered to by a lovely sales girl who will either give you space if that's what you want or hover by your side as you throw garment after garment at her for your dressing room (also known as my dream). Stephanie and Michael know how to run a business. This is a fancy store... and it feels that way inside... they pamper their customers. That pampering has included teaching my kids to skateboard (inside... all around the high-end clothes, accessories, and decor). I was nervous, but Steph and Michael were completely calm... no worries that one of my kids would careen into a fancy mirror or a table of accessories and do tons of damage. I love this... it's a beautiful place... but they make you feel like you could live there... literally.
Both Stephanie and Michael know the designers and the clothes. They complement each other well... Steph identifies great pieces for people, and Michael expertly pins and preps the pieces for the tailor so that they become totally perfect. Steph picks the best clothing from the best designers... Peter Som, Derek Lam, Nina Ricci, Lanvin. She loves clothes lots... and she's got impeccable taste. When she says something is "genius" you can bet it is. She knows her customers so well that she can pick out all of the clothes that will work best for them as soon as they walk in.
The biggest challenge is trying not to want everything you try on. When I win the lottery... I'm never going to choose between things there again... I'll just get one of each. Until then, Steph always helps narrow down the choices. She has a knack for helping chose that perfect piece that you'll love forever... and editing out the "just really great" items. This is a pricey place to shop... but you get every penny's worth. -

i am not by any means a clothes whore...or very stylish (see profile pic), but this store is amazing. it makes me want to save for a month just to buy one piece. the labels they carry often not found in philadelphia (i'm from sf)...derek lam, lela rose (my new fav), etc.
the owner michael is a warm person who cares and is truly educated about all the designers they carry.
prices range from 250 to 3000 for clothing, but these are pieces you'll keep! they also have great shoes, bags, furniture, and home decor (they have glasses starting at $10). -

the owner was sooooo sweet to me when i tried on and nearly purchased a Lela Rose gown. Stunning clothes. LOVE IT!!!
