Such a pretty hotel. And it smelled so nice in there too (sandalwood maybe?) We stayed for the night following a concert and I was lucky enough to get a great deal on a room.
Check in procedure was easy and there is inexpensive parking down the road. Our room was simple but had a very pretty view westward. The bed was firm, but comfortable and there were both hard and soft pillows. The shower was one of those rain types, which I just don't prefer. You can make a decent cup of coffee in your room and get moving.
If I need to stay in a hotel again in Dallas I would stay here - good central location, good price, plus it's not a chain which is always a plus.

I totally agree with Claire H., this is one of the nicest hotels I've ever been to.  There is a very charming, old-world, glamorous feel to it, but it's not snotty or pretentious. The interior of the hotel is gorgeous - take time to look at all the period pieces, artwork repros, and antiques.

The staff are super friendly and professional. The rooms are huge and well-equipped. It's also centrally located to lots of good things in downtown (museums, restaurants, the Nieman Marcus store).

There are lots of fine dining options and some beautiful and elegant bars that remind me of old Saloons. The bartenders are very professional, very knowledgeable and a pleasure to be around.

The French Room at this hotel is a world-renowned restaurant. I didnt eat there, but I did take a look at the marvelous paintings and decor - be sure to check it out while there.

Honestly, this is probably the nicest hotel I've stayed at in the United States. And for the price? What a shock!

As my sister Sara P wrote, the hotel is exquisitely decorated and an absolute gem. Rooms are huge, beds are very comfortable, and best of all, there is still a relaxed and friendly atmosphere inside. No need to refrain from laughter and being yourself among friends and family. Relax by catching a drink at one of several lounges inside and enjoy friendly service, be it at check-in, the bars, or the restaurants. Want to head out? The hotel is blocks from the West End dining district, museums, shopping, freeways, and mass-transit.

I will most likely stay here the next time I'm in town, and I'll definitely try to eat at the French Room. But even having missed out on that, I can say that staying at the Adolphus Hotel was an experience I'll cherish for quite some time.

What a beautiful place!
Looking out the window, there was a little view of the night lights, but not much. Shuttle service was great. All service and food was fabulous.
Make sure you're not expecting a pool or hot tub.  This is just meant for you to enjoy its luxuriy, history, and beauty.  Outside, there are great sculptures in the wall.  (I don't remember the right name for these from art appreciation!)
There are conveniences nearby including a 7-11 and a CVS Pharmacy.

Old school, elegant and charming with exceptional service.

This hotel will not disappoint, especially if you are traveling on business and need easy access to downtown Dallas and the freeways.

The bellmen and doormen always seem to remember you by name, and this is a great non-chain Hotel.

Great place to stay, very New Orleans-like.

The Adolphus Hotel is a Dallas tradition. People pay dumptrucks full of money to stay there and see the Christmas parade and I have no intention of changing that. However, in all honesty, as a hotel its not my cup of tea.

Let me be honest, this review covers the Adolphus on two levels, one as hotel guest while the other is as a wedding venue. My girlfriend was a bridesmaid in a Friday evening wedding. I used here room to get ready for the ceremony after a long day of work. As a room, it was not very comfortable, the decorations were gaudy and there was no ironing board in the room. Room service was incredibly slow and when my lady love left her make-up bag in a room, it took a week of inquiries to get a straight answer on it's whereabouts. On this level, this alleged high end hotel was less than satisfactory.

However, the wedding that we attending was freakin amazing. The staff that was hired anticipated every possible need. I can't attest to the cost of the ceremony and reception but THAT staff anticipate every possible need. Additionally, the suite the bride and groom received was astounding (OK, it was bigger than my whole house in California).

The wedding and the staff treatment of same gets the full 5 stars. The room and security staff get two and a half.  Adolphus is a true classic but be advised that may mean digs that would have impressed 50 years ago but fall short now. However, if you need to be downtown you can do much worse.

It was pretty nice and there was a great deal on my room from Orbitz.  The room was good size and the bathroom was remodeled fairly recently.  Huge walk-in closet--but who the hell cares I only brought a carry on bag of stuff with me.  My room had an awful view of the nothing but a brick wall and the bed was far from extraordinary.

If I was paying full price at this place I would be pretty pissed and feel like I had been ripped off but for under $150 bucks and close to the event I was attending, I'm not complaining.  If I had paid $300+ a night as many people do I would be really angry I didn't stay at the W or somewhere comparable.  I guess the history and gradiousity of the place is supposed to be impressive but I've gotta say it's not really my style so I'm unimpressed and it seems extremely pretentious to me.

There isn't much quality food in the area or too much to do--I wish I had the opportunity to try the French Room but it was closed for 2 weeks and I had a horrendous experience in The Rodeo Bar and Grill in which I ended up having to walk out.

I'm not really sure what all the hype is about and I wish I had known there were free bottles of water in the gym before I spend $5 F'n dollars on one in the gift shop in the lobby--what a joke.

The Adolphus is a grand and beautiful hotel that seems to be from another era.  Don't let me fool you, the hotel is up to date with all its modern amenities and features, but I believe that hotels like the Adolphus have either ceased to exist or have become extremely rundown overtime.

Located right in the heart of the downtown Dallas, the Adolphus is in a central location.  From the hotel, you can easily walk to some of Dallas' best restaurants or take a 5min cab ride to Dallas' uptown neighborhood.  An added bonus is the two block walk from the hotel to Neiman Marcus' flagship store.

When you walk into the hotel, you will instantly be overwhelmed by the sheer size of its lobby.  This oversized room, true to Texas form, boasts wood panelled walls, large arm chairs and sofas in a variety of seating areas, and classic landscape oil paintings.

Upon entering your guest room, you will again be overwhelmed and shocked by the size of your room.  My guest room, a standard king room, had a large bathroom, dining room table, seating area, desk, and separate bedroom.  If I had to guess, I would estimate my room was roughly 650 sq feet - nearly as large as some hotel rooms found in Vegas.

The hotel has several dining options and a full size gym.  An added perk of being an Adolphus guest is your ability to utilize the Texas Club, a nearby high-end health club.  For $10, Adolphus guests can walk two blocks to the Texas Club and use all of their facilities for the entire day.  These include cardio machines, classes, steam and sauna, and jacuzzi.  If you have some downtime during your stay here, I highly suggest you visit the Texas Club.

The Adolphus is extremely clean, has a friendly staff, and is in an excellent location.  The hotel provides refuge from the chaotic business environment of downtown Dallas, allowing you to experience the grandeur of an old world hotel in the epicenter of a modern city.  So, if your travel plans take you to downtown Dallas, the Adolphus will satisfy your every need while away from home.

OK, here we go - my 100th review. Cue the fanfair and fireworks.  It's appropriate that it's The Adolphus, I mean I wouldnt want all the hoopla of my 100th to be wasted on something like Quiznos.

Anyhow, my dude's family came in town for Thanksgiving, so I made arrangements for all of them to stay at The Adolphus.  We had his parents in a badass suite, aunt and uncle in a Jr suite, and the 2 sets of cousins were in regular rooms.  We ended up joining the family on the last nite just for fun, and were in a regular room as well.  All i have to say is, a "regular room" is pretty damn nice.  and roomy.  The Jr Suite is like a small apartment and the suite (i think it was room 1912) was so amazing I could live in it.  My favorite thing about the rooms were easily the beds.  The giant, king-sized 4 poster bed with crisp linens and down pillows was hard to leave on Sunday.

The staff there is overly accommodating and genuine, not "fancy fake nice" like some places who act as if you are valeting in their hotel it better be a maserati.  They took my Jeep and my dude's Yukon right alongside the maybachs and the porches (it was Thanksgiving weekend, I'm assuming a lot of fancy people were there for the Cowboys game or something).

Everything we needed, both prior to the family's arrival as well as during the weeklong stay, was taken care of with ease and pleasantries. I can't say enough how great the service was.   The hotel itself is a spectacle, with the Adolphus Busch story and all the treasures inside (a piano from the Guggenheims!) as well as the dark wood and elegant decor and intoxicating smells (how do they do that??)

We had dinner catered into the suite on Thanksgiving night (we all went to the game so we had a late dinner) and everything was beautifully prepared and tasted like heaven.  I can't tell you how much I stuffed in my gullet that fine evening!

Unfortunately we didnt have dinner in The French Room (hopefully I will get to check that out soon!) but we did have breakfast in the Bistro where we were treated like the only customers in the place, which is funny considering we were just having omelets and french toast.

While we were there, we saw 2 wedding receptions and a birthday celebration being hosted in the ballroom area, and all looked fabulous - yet they were up and away from the general lobby area so that hotel guests were not a disturbance to the parties.

Overall, you can expect a classy atmosphere with a homey feel.  It's not stuffy but retains its elegance, and is walking distance to several great places for out of towners (Ten Sports Grill, City Tavern, Sol Irlandes & Iron Cactus, Starbucks, Neiman Marcus, etc).  This is a great time of year to visit since the Christmas tree is magnificent and all the downtown area is in the spirit as well.

I will say you definitely feel the old world style with the decor and the amenities, so dont come here expecting the latest technology and trendy minimalist style.  But if you wanna feel like a baroness from the 20s, put your flapper hat on and come stay downtown at The Adolphus!

This review is for the afternoon tea only. I LOVE the whole concept of afternoon teas... so wherever I go, I hunt for tea rooms. I had high expectation from the tea service at the Adolphus.

We walked into the lobby and were greeted by the 'tea captain'. She explained that it was a formal tea service and explained about the tea selections. They have a limited selection of teas but the ones they have are good. As part of the tea, you get to try 3 pots and each tea I tried had a distinct flavor. The savory plate is the 1st course which is your typical tea sandwiches, mini croissants etc.. The sandwiches were good but not fantastic. Next up were the scones served with  Devonshire cream and raspberry marmalade . The scones were tooooooo dense & I almost choked on them.
The next course was desserts which was a bit disappointing. I don't know why everything was so cloyingly sweet...yuck.  The last course were chocolate truffles but I had enough sugar from the previous course that I skipped these.  The teas I tried were the Ceylon Yalta, Leaves of Provence and the Vaniila Bean. All were really good though I was not too fond of the Leaves of Provence.

My main complaint about the tea service was the seating. There are 3 couch type seating arrangements which is ok if you are in a group but since we were just a couple, we felt kind of sandwiched between two groups of women and the sorority type chatter can get on your nerves pretty quick. The food was so so and yes they do have a guy playing the piano but he was really off on common tunes...like "the Entertainer' !! I guess I am being really finicky, but when I fork $$ I expect to walk out feeling like royalty...I walked out just glad that the whole thing was over. It was formal to the point of being stuffy and being forced to listen to who broke up with whom over what is not the best way to savor 'Afternoon Tea'

This is one beautiful hotel. If you travel a lot, you get really bored with the "Marriott" look or the "ultra-modern chic" you find in most hotels.  The room was nice and larger - actually had a big closet!

The hotel staff was kind and willing to please and the food in the regular restaurant was surprisingly good.

The best part is the architecture. Take some time to walk around and see the lovely woodwork and details in the lobby and outside. I asked for an "interesting room" and I got a room on the 18th floor that had a huge copper statue of a Roman trojan or something. It made time in the room unique.

The Adolphus is a hidden treasure in Dallas. We were looking for a suite at the W, but the one we wanted was occupied, The Crescent is cool but more for old people, and Hotel ZaZa was full. My friend recommended the Adolphus, and it worked out nicely.

I highly recommend this hotel, the staff was nice and we had no problems.

Great old classic hotel founded by Adolphus Busch the beer baron.  Beautiful lobby and hallways.  Excellent service.  Nice, over sized rooms.  Ours had almost a livingroom sized area with a desk and couch.  It was great for reading.  Excellent high bed with great mattress and pillows.

I've never stayed there, but we popped in to check it for ghosts.  The hotel is beautiful, right out of the pages of Dallas' history.  During the holidays it's really beautiful.

The 19th floor used to be the ballroom.  According to a story that ran in the Dallas Morning News, that floor was renovated in 1979 to add more guest rooms.  However, via a catwalk from the 21st floor you can still see what's left of the arched ceilings and empty cavity that were part of the old ballroom.

It's not uncommon for folks staying on the surrounding floors to hear swing music, pianos, gregarious party goers wandering the hallways.  However, when security arrives, there's no one there.  Also, a jilted bride is occasionally seen wandering the halls.  We walked the halls and didn't see or hear anything spooky.  Maybe it was too early in the afternoon for ghosts.

The Adolphus is in the heart of downtown, close to everything you'd want to see in the heart of Dallas.  Either walk or take the DART train and you're minutes away from the Dallas Museum of Art, Dallas World Aquarium, The Sixth Floor Museum, and the Majestic Theater.

I'd sleep with the lights on.

One of my favorite hotels ever.  It combines all the benefits of a big hotel (oversized rooms, great beds, lots of eating options, well-staffed) with the charm and ambience of a historic inn.  Their staff did everything possible to make my life easier while I was there for two weeks (with a trip home on the weekend).

They held the things I didn't want to take home then delivered them to my room the second week before my arrival, they drove me anywhere I wanted in the hotel car (Kinko's, the courthouse), and were super kind and polite without being annoyingly ingratiating.  The hamburger I had for dinner at the hotel bar was one of the best I've ever had, and I loved the bartender.  (Not in the biblical sense -- just in the way one does when one eats at the same place five days in a row!)

My one issue was with the sad, sad gym.  All the free bottled water in the world can't compensate for pathetic treadmills that looked like they were purchased when the first Bush was in office.

Overall, though, I LOVED the Adolphus and can't wait to have a reason to return!

My first thoughts when I opened the door to my room, "I'm home." and "I wonder how long it will take to have all my things moved in." I'm so tired of the usual uninspired chain hotels. It was so refreshing to see that they actually took the time to have the interior designed in a lush yet comfy atmosphere. As a weary business traveler in an area without many dining options it was also a pleasant surprise to see a reasonably priced room service menu that doesn't extort the guest on the delivery charge. And I have to give a special mention to the bellmen who always started off my day right with a warm and heartfelt personal greeting. Thanks guys!

Yes Im with the band...my friend from nyc a drummer with a band - was visiting town and decided to stay here upon a 'friend's ' recommendation :-)...They literally go out of their way to make sure everything you need is at arms reach...the freshest and biggest croissant for breakfast...and did I say they have high noon tea here too!And if you go decide to go on a shopping spree in the original Nieman Marcus across the street- they'll gladly pick it up for you...Class Texan Style!
