Pet: Chinchilla
Name : Riceball
Took me a long time to find out this place has Vet for Chinchillas. I asked around and people didn't know where is a good vet, and I don't want to take my Chin to a small clinic with vet not specialized in small exotic pets, so I went to Chinchilla Rescue and found out this place has vet for them :D
Receptionists are very nice and friendly!
My first time visit to any vet and so is my Chinchilla boy. They gave me the earliest appointment possible.
Dr. Greene was very friendly and professional.
Very happy with the services here. Definitely will come back :D
Total office visit w/ 1 medicine for digestive system and 1 pain killer $95
not too bad~ -

We've taken our pets for years to Adobe. Its service is okay for regular care. However, it's expensive and their services have become too much like a manufacturing-line in approach.
The last straw was the surgery just done on our dog. He was not recovering properly and the interventions and tests that were utilized didn't diagnose some of the underlying issues. They certainly did not yield improvement. Finally, one month post-surgery, we took our dog to Alpine Animal Hospital and they identified anemia, and put our dog on a treatment that immediately allowed the dog to begin to repair. He'd lost 15 pounds due to pain post-surgery. The pain was ongoing and significant. It took hard-core anti-inflammatories, tranquilizers, antibiotics, pain killers and an iron supplement to allow him to begin to heal. Two weeks later - dog gambols like a puppy and has has refound his "wag" big-time. He's smiling and assertive. We have our dog back.
Comparison :
(1) One month of terrible agony for the dog. Multiple sets of inadequate treatments. Incorrect diagnosis in part. N thousands of dollars out-of-pocket. Countless weeks of productivity lost, sleep lost, work-time lost, countless fruitless trips back to Adobe. Inaccurate and insulting, ongoing characterizations of us by the vets. Misrepresentations of what they were doing and what we were doing. Stated to others AND to us directly. Still outstanding : Final bill for incomplete and/or wrong medications (Alpine switched them out immediately when we switched vets) is yet more hundreds of dollars. The bill for just the last and final visit at Adobe probably equals in total what we ended up paying Alpine for all Alpine visits and meds to allow our dog to begin to recuperate sufficiently.
Versus
(2) A few hundred for x-rays and immediate right (or complete) diagnosis (diagnoses), medications and treatment with huge and obvious improved situation, and rapid healing due specifically to the mods to program prescribed at Alpine. To boot, the vets were a delight to work with - they were respectful, listened (and thus learned) and showed markedly more intelligence and less hubris in analyzing and designing the right tests and treatment program. All this at markedly lower prices for every service than Adobe.
Alpine also stated that the metal plate selected for insertion by Adobe was the wrong size (too small) but that it didn't make sense to re-do it one month post-surgery since the bone was already healing around it. They stated the plate was not optimal, not what they would have utilized, but it was "good enough".
Imho, do yourself a favor and don't trust the fancy digs and partial to complete arrogance we encountered at Adobe from the vets. In this instance, money can't buy you the best care. Go to the more humble and vastly more proficient vets at Alpine. Alpine vets = Angels in our book.
Best line at Adobe while carrying dog back from x-rays several weeks post-surgery ::
Question : "How do we get back to his exam room?"
Answer : "Just follow the trail of (his) blood" -

It has taken me a few months to finally find the strength to write this review. My beloved cat, whom I've cared for 10 years since he was just 2.5 months old, passed away on February 5th. I did not have any insurance on my little buddy, and Adobe Animal Hospital did what they could within my budget. $3,500 later, he only lived about 7 months after being diagnosed with lymphoma. I understand pets do not live forever, but it was disappointing to find out that they were unable to really do much for him unless I spent another $1500 on another test plus potentially $8k more to keep him alive for maybe another couple years at best.
My cat regularly had diarrhea for the past year so after a co-worker's recommendation along with all the positive Yelp reviews, I decided Abobe seemed like the place to take him in. The 2 vets who took care of him were all very kind and gentle and most of the technicians were also good except for 2 which my cat also was not too fond of. Their facility is very clean and appears to be "state of the art". However with all these positives, their expertise is still very limited in dealing with my cat's illness. After doing some research online, I discovered this is the norm and since pets are unable to communicate directly what the issue is, it is a challenge for their staff to determine problems on a limited budget. This place is expensive, so for all your pet owners, I do suggest that you buy insurance for your pet and keep in mind insurance carriers will only honor their policy if the condition is not pre-existing.
During his last month, his diarrhea continued to get worse so I asked Adobe what I could give him to help firm up his stool. They suggested metamucil which ended up accelerating his demise. I won't get into the details, but I can tell he was suffered through the night after I work up in the morning. There was a lot of anger from my family and myself for their suggestion which worsened his condition. A day later is when I decided that his quality of life was in a state of significant pain and suffering that it was unfair for us to be selfish keeping him alive. I will always remember my little buddy so rest in peace. Adobe did make a donation in the name of my cat to one of Stanford's Animal programs which is a nice gesture. -

I gave this hospital 4 stars because they generally do a good job, though you need to be careful to always be an advocate for your pet as they can get lost in the hustle. This hospital recently moved from downtown Los Altos to Mountain VIew. I like their new location. It's spacious and well laid out. They have a lot of Vets. Some are better than others. They also have specialists for small animals other than just just dogs and cats. I am saying a word of caution, though, because I brought my beloved rabbit to see them when she had terrible diarrhea. They initilally told me what they were going to do and the price. I questioned them about the diagnosis, so without going further they did a stool sample. The vet came back and said it was very treatable. The problem though was that the rabbit was very dehydrated and they got caught up in my question about lodging about the pet since we were about to leave out of town, and the rabbit's primary issue of dehydration did not get attention. She was taken to the overnight housing but was not given the much needed IV and this led to her eventual death later in the evening in my opinion. So - be sure to keep track of your pets needs. The vets are human and this is an extremely busy place. Just be sure that your pet is stabalized and his/her needs are taken care of before you leave the hospital. That was my mistake. We do take our other pets here occaionally since it is a 24 hour facililty. If they don't have an appointment available, you can use their urgent care service and be seen right away with an additional charge. I do recommend this hospital. They have good vets and it is a nice facility.

Took my very sick pug here. $6k later, he is healing and all is well with him. He had an intestinal blockage in which I was given the option to euthanize him or give him a chance for what they quoted was a $4k emergency surgery...obviously they underestimated the price.
He lived and all is well.
They would've gotten 5 stars but a day after bringing him home, I had to rush him back into the vets because they had failed to give him adequate amounts of pain meds and he was in excruciating pain. Adobe charged me $157 for the emergency visit that was caused by their failure to prescribe the adequate amount of pain medications. They suck for that. They should've seen their error and only charged me for the additional meds.
UPDATE: 04/18/12
I went back and spoke with the Office Manager 2 weeks later. I let her know how irritating it was that they would charge me for thrir error. She refunded the $70 Urgent Care charge and agreed it was their error for not prescribing the right amount of pain meds. Thank You. -

Since that incident my beautiful dog is a healthy, jumping, bouncing little lady.
I went to Adobe because, after a very long walk, my dog went limp and cried helplessly in pain whenever she was moved, even slightly. After a few days of quiet time and careful watching (and some acupuncture) It turns out that she pulled a muscle in her back leg. Both Adobe vets pushed me endlessly to schedule a double hip replacement that day. So glad I followed my intuition and didn't cut the dogs legs off.
When I pull a muscle, I'd act the same way. I know my dog very well. I suggested this to Adobe and they smirked, laughed a bit and said, "I know you THINK it's fine but she's NOT. She needs this surgery immediate." (Yelpers, yeah, that's what she said, no joke) I said no, it didn't feel right and left. They gave her strong (seriously strong) medication and we left.
I was looking for a new hospital to give her a check-up and came across my old review and read others so, not making my appt here.
Thanks Yelp for helping us to keep our animals safe and well cared for.1 Previous Review: Show all »

Adobe animal hospital is by far the cleanest, most professional and well staffed animal hospital I have ever seen or heard of.
I came here after another clinic botched a procedure for my cat- at Adobe I felt confident an secure that my baby would be in good hands and come out healthy and happy.
The clinic itself is beautiful and comfortable, well maintained and fully equipped. The vet techs are extremely knowledgable and skilled as are the doctors. There is always a doctor available 24/7 to make sure all animals are being watched and cared for and they even allow anytime visitations/ phone call check-ins for any pets staying overnight.
We went in on a Sunday and Adobe is one of the few emergency clinics in the area, so we had a bit of a wait for the doctor- but it was completely worth it and technicians were consistently checking in and apologizing for the wait time.
I am thrilled to have decided to make the shift to Adobe and plan to make it the primary hospital for all of my animals. -

Adobe is hit or miss, and if you love your animals the way I do then you know that "hit or miss" is just not good enough. A few of the doctors at Adboe are amazing (especially Dr. Sara Skiwski, but she's only at Adobe on Tuesday's. Dr Sara does, however, have her own clinic called Western Dragon in San Jose). BUT! Some of the doctor's seem downright incompetent and do more harm than good. I won't go into my whole pet saga, but suffice it to say that after a very botched, inaccurate treatment and diagnosis five days ago, I was luckily referred to the Whole Pet Vet in Los Gatos, and they literally saved my cat's life. Adobe is a factory with rookie doctors on staff and I'll never go back there again. Again, don't mean to do a disservice to the great doctors they do have on staff, but since you don't get to choose your doctors at Adobe - and therefore have no continuity of care - it's just not worth the risk. I highly reccomend Western Dragon in San Jose or The Whole Pet Vet in Los Gatos. Might be a further drive for folks who live in Menlo Park and Palo Alto, but it's worth it!

We cannot have asked for a better Vet than Adobe. The vets & technicians here are responsible and caring. They are open 24/7 and has a ER here. We had just gone in again today with our Goldendoodle: a piece of rawhide was stuck in his throat and wouldn't pass.
Jaimie, the technician here today was super knowledgeable and helpful. She immediately opened my dog's mouth and checked for the rawhide. Saw it, and took it out to remove the blockage. We'll be coming here with our dogs for a long time to come. -

Overall location and building: Easy to freeways, recently built, has good size entrance and waiting area, has a lot of rooms for exams, has Xray machines, has ER and regular hospital in one (open 24/7). Costs of regular visit is about $60, whereas for ER it's only additional $50 more. They also have a pharmacy that is open, I believe, 9am to 9pm and the prices are reasonable. Separate ICUs for cats and dogs. Visiting hours only till 9am-9pm.
Doctors I have worked with: Lisa Rose, Nicolette Zarday, Sharon Zweiter, Jennifer Koga, Nathan Cote, Brian Maxwell.
You can tell I have been here a LOT, as I think I know way too many people in this hospital. I am thankful to each and every doctors who has helped me with my cat. My cat had urinary blockages, bacteria in bladder, damaged urethral tube, PU surgery - all within 1 month. I first took my pet to "United Emergency Animal Clinic" in Campbell, and oh boy do I regret this! Adobe Hospital has saved my pets life. I won't go into details of everything I faced, I am glad there is a place like Adobe Hospital to help pets. It is not cheap, but any ER is not cheap - when you need ER, and need care - this is the place for you. They also take different animals, not just cats or dogs.
Thank you Adobe Animal Hospital, I know I can count on you! -

It took a life & death situation for me to return to my beloved yelp community. I've missed you & if I can save just 1 pet from suffering & inadequate care, then my mission has been served.
We admit our experience may have been a bit extraordinary, given that we arrived after hours this past Valentines Day (2/14/12) & were one of 2 walk-ins there however, the level of care received far surpassed anything we had experienced on this side of the bay (and are not new to Adobe). As we were waiting for blood work results, I got an impromptu tour of the entire facility & was impressed. Lack of space for this post holds me back from all the details but will say it was extrodinary & no funky smells whatsoever anywhere & I have a nose like a rabbit.
With knowledge of having to put our other girl to rest just 10 days prior to our visit (who had the exact same symptoms just more severe & under the care of a different vet/facility), our very Zen veterinarian, Elizabeth Rogers, aggressively addressed the situation & upon blood panel result findings, equipped us with a week's worth of IV fluids, 3 meds & an attentive tutorial on how to administer them all for a very fair price.
Pros
Full service care in a hospital setting, has a full lab & is there for you 24/7. Staff is attentive, nurturing, appreciative & mature. All 5 with whom we came into contact with, openly voiced how lucky they felt to be working there (and this was after midnight!). The physicians take a straight forward approach & provide you with your own copy of lab results with out asking and a typed out medical report with their diagnosis & treatment plan (which came in handy). We were able to get the results of a full blood panel within an hour! They apologized that it wasn't within the 30 mins. as estimated & even checked in on us from time to time as we waited. We didn't care we were thrilled to be able to get the tell all blood work needed in such a short time. Local clinics who mostly have mini-labs, have to send these sort of tests out & if you're lucky you may get a call back with results the following morning or in our case from our prior vet, wait 2 days because it was the weekend which delayed treatment & prolonged the suffering of our other girl who is no longer with us. If your pet needed surgery they could do it right there! The place is very clean & I was shown all the departments & treating areas (impressive).
Adobe's costs for injectibles/meds. where competitive & even a bit cheaper than our local vets & a local San Jose ER clinic. Our prior vet required they administer IV fluids/meds. which involves much added costs & perhaps even an overnight stay at an off-site hospital where your little one is housed in a cage & uncomfortable surroundings. After our girl's initial treatment (all within a short period of time in our presence), Adobe sent us home to administer the remaining treatment plan ourselves.
Follow-up visits (with the same diagnosis for as many times needed), $45. Our prior vet in San Jose charged $75 a pop, no exceptions.
Adobe also provides a 20% second pet discount (our prev. SJ vet did not) & Adobe's reg. consult visit cost is competitive.
Cons
Given they have a large pool of veterinarians who work varied shifts, you may not get your regular physician for an impromptu visit however, their physicians are scheduled to work specific days/times each week so you can make an appt. with the one you want accordingly. We found we preferred another veterinarian from our original one based on this process & stuck with the later back when we were seeing them at the old location. They are 17 miles away from our home but worth the sacrafice.
We write this in loving memory of our precious Buba, who should of had a blood panel run by our old vet in San Jose over the summer. Though he expressed he was surprized by the results of her blood work taken this past November (after she went into total failure), he admitted she had this dreadful condition for quite sometime (no apologies!). It pains me deeply & still cry when I think of how Buba needlessly suffered unknowingly for such a long time & hope Dr. Curly at Acacia Pet Clinic in San Jose learned from this experience so it never-ever happens again. -

After having one surgeon here in the South Bay tell us that the dog needed an immediate amputation, we opted to get another option at UC Davis. They immediately identified the problem-- Dr. Roos and his incompetence -- and removed every suture, plate, screw, and everything Dr Roos had put in. The dog's leg was incredibly infected from the plate, hence the occasionally oozing drainage that Dr Roos did not worry about. 5 months after I spent another 2K at Davis, my dog is now actually running , putting weight on the leg, and operating pretty pain free most of the time. It took 8 weeks of casts, suture changes, drives back and forth to Davis every week, and 10 weeks of hardcore antibiotics.
The most important thing we found out about Adobe, is that Dr Roos is NOT a board-certified surgeon. If he was, he would have known that the particular plate he used in my dog's leg, and brags about using, hasn't been used by board certified surgeons in a decade. Because it causes horrible bone infections and osteosarcoma (bone cancer). His incompetence not only threatened my dog's leg, but his entire life.
Do not, do not, let this man operate on your dog.1 Previous Review: Show all »

ok, some might think it's odd that i'm still giving adobe so many stars after the story i'm about to tell... but i also think that this is an experience people would benefit from hearing, so please read to the end.
so, this story is about the very same cat that i brought in for weight loss. when i initially brought her, i'd said that she was too skinny and her teeth needed to be looked at. it turned out that she was beyond skinny, and actually close to starving (in my defense, she was a feral cat and is very sweet and loving, but hates being held, so it was hard for me to weigh her or monitor her condition much until it got pretty bad). she was in such bad shape that the vet was concerned she had something very serious, like cancer. her bloodwork was also not great. we spent a couple of weeks getting expensive tests to try and figure out what was wrong... x-rays, ultra sounds, all sorts of things. as this time passed and she continued to waste away, i was dismayed by the fact that we were finding nothing. i had been instructed to tube feed her during this time, so at least she wasn't eating nothing, but eventually, i brought her back to the vet and demanded that they look at her teeth, because at least that was something we knew needed attention and could be fixed.
it turned out that she had incredibly advanced decay. i don't completely blame the vet for not jumping on that; she's a youngish cat to have such bad teeth. but they were super bad. they wound up taking her into surgery for them the following day, and nearly all of them had to be removed. and evidently, that was the big problem. she was eating (canned food, obv) like a champ again soon after and gained some weight back, though she's still pretty thin.
now, the reason this is a five star review, even after all that, is because of their office manager, summer (last name escapes me now!). i met with her after my cat's surgery and explained that, while i appreciated the aggressive way the vet tried to discern what was causing my cat's bloodwork to be off, it was clear that we had been wasting a lot of time and money. she agreed and they gave me a refund for some of those tests. i know that the vets at adobe want to do right by their patients, but it's also very hard to treat someone who can't tell you what hurts. it's also hard as an owner to know when it's reasonable to pursue some kind of "ultimate diagnosis", instead of treating obvious symptoms and waiting for improvement. i was so happy that summer was able to find a solution that left my cat feeling much better and me feeling like i wasn't just throwing money at something out of guilt. i wanted to tell this story because a lot of the lower reviews for adobe seem to focus on that feeling of helplessness when you have a sick animal and a doctor who might seem overly zealous about expensive procedures. ask to speak to the office manager if you feel like that and you may be surprised by their empathy and understanding.1 Previous Review: Show all »

Would that we still lived in the mid-peninsula. Adobe employs such talented techs and vets. Our dog, a Cavalier Spaniel, was always wonderfully cared for. The techs were fantastic at answering phone questions about our dog's care. The day the movers emptied our house, 12/13/12, I was able to get our dog in to see a doctor about some calming meds to help him deal with hotels (we had a 3 day drive ahead of us).

I used to be a client of Adobe, until they moved to their El camino location.
The service has been rather impersonal since, and when we brought our dog in to evaluate her for surgery for double luxating patella, we decided to switch vets. The Doctor that saw her simply creeped us out. He treated our dog like a piece of meat, forcing her down, and being very rough. She is a calm unresisting slightly shy dog. We have never had problems with her at a vet, but he seemed to just default to the rough approach.
He really gave us the creep when he said he LOVED performing surgeries. The way he said it was just not ok and we left. Our dog ended up being operated on at Sage in Campbell and that was the right decision. We switched to Alpine Animal Hospital and we haven't gone back. -
Review from Ambient L.

After having my cat cared for at Adobe for many years, one of the physicians told me that because my cat is always indoors, the stress of bringing her to the vet when she was healthy would do more harm than the annual exams would do good. She suggested we do a full blood panel to have a baseline record on file, so that if something changed, they could compare it. The doctor said that I should only bring my cat in if something was wrong. Well, I was fortunate to have a healthy cat for many years, but when that changed and I grew concerned about some symptoms, I called to take her in, and they had completely DELETED HER ENTIRE MEDICAL RECORD. This meant that I had no shot records, no previous health record and the BLOOD PANEL THAT I PAID FOR SO THEY WOULD HAVE A BASELINE IN THEIR RECORD FOR COMPARISON, AT THEIR DOCTOR'S ORDER WAS GONE. And in case you're wondering, NONE of my contact information changed, so they can't say that they couldn't locate me and simply deleted the record. They made no such attempt. Furthermore, another one of their doctors told me that they know what healthy blood levels are for cats and that there was never a need for a blood panel or to keep a specific baseline on my cat.
Their method of refusing to address or resolve this was to IGNORE MY E-MAILS AND VOICE MAILS, never once responding to my inquiries. I find them irresponsible and uncaring, and unethical, if not unscrupulous. And now, of course, I'm stuck with absolutely no record of my cat's medical history. As for the blood panel, either they never should have done it, which would suggest giving me my money back since it was their doctor who said I needed it, OR the never should have thrown it away when the reason for having it in the first place was simply to have it on file. Both equate to STEALING THE FEES THEY CHARGED TO DO IT IN THE FIRST PLACE.
Stunning that their business has grown so over the years when this is how they do business. Let the buyer beware! -

So this review is way too long in coming....but life get busy so what can I say.
This vet hospital rocks; old location and new location. I (my pets) see Dr. Jane Johnson, she is quite probably the best vet EVER! I have taken my Rotts and Newfie's here (including rescue dogs) and we have always received kind and thoughtful service.
One thing to all before I on... SEE A REGULAR VET --- do not just take whomever and be bouncing around. Do you just see whomever is available when you are sick... I'm guessing not... you see your doctor so give your pets the same respect when possible. That includes scheduling their yearly visit with ample time. Ok, off my soap box.
Anyway, I have unfortunately lost a couple of our four legged family members over the years (Rotties and Newfs) but because of old age (13, 13, 11 years) as the worst part of owning a pet is that we out live them. I always swear no more until I see that cute pup and I can't take it and boom a new four legged member. They are even great when I get not great news about one of our pets... they really try to help you through and follow-up with you.
Dr. Johnson loves animals and knows how much we love our four legged family members. They love her when they come in because she makes them comfortable. I have even come with different relatives when they brought their four legged family members (St. Bernard and Shitz Zsu) in and they have loved Adobe and Dr. Johnson as well. Dr. Johnson is thoughtful and thorough explaining all options when you bring in your pet and making sure she has answered all your questions.
Seriously I can go on and on as I cannot say enough good things about Adobe and Dr. Jane Johnson they are just too wonderful for words. -

Gigantic Kudos for Jennifer (answered my ER call), Jennifer and Julie (who looked at my dog, Kepler - Chocolate Lab) and gave me awesome support and advise on how to care for Kepler until I saw my vet the next day.
I recently went to United Animal ER in Campbell and I was so disappointed with the service, rate, and health care. I feel Adobe puts United to shame.
Jennifer, Jennifer, and Julie (the staff at Adobe) were so compassionate and loving towards Kepler. My experience at Adobe Animal Hospital was amazing, absolutely amazing. It's so wonderful to see professionals that love their job and extend so much concern towards a sick dog. I just fell in love with Jennifer and Karen. They were so sweet and kind to Kepler. Thank you Jennifer, Jennifer, and Julie.

Adobe Animal Hospital is AMAZING. I would never have guessed that one could expect a 24-hour emergency facility to be so nice, with such warm, loving people who really love animals and strive to give them the best care possible.
We brought three 6-week-old kittens in who had been abandoned for a check up and to see if we could give them a flea treatment, as they were in pretty bad shape. The vet and the tech both cooed over these little ones, and were enjoying their antics. They gave them treatments and a thorough check-up, as well as samples of the kitten concentration of advantage (as they don't sell it), and only charged us for one check up appointment!
I am VERY impressed, and will bring my pets here in a heartbeat. It's worth the drive from my house. -

Dr. Ellis is the best vet I have met - she not only cares about her animal patients, but her human patients as well.
Her kindness and compassion, as well as her genuine concern, were so appreciated as my dog, Maggie's health problems mounted. When we had to make the gut-wrenching decision to put Maggie down after nearly 13 wonderful years gracing our presence, Dr. Ellis and Adobe treated Maggie and us with kindness, warmth, dignity and respect.
Although that day was perhaps the hardest of my life, all the way to the end they cared for Maggie as if she was their own pet - the vet techs, the front desk staff who helped me when I walked in crying, the ICU, the x-ray techs, the pharmacist, everyone. Difficult for me personally, but they - and their facilities - were outstanding, especially the private room with a separate exit to the parking lot when we had to put Maggie to sleep.
They also handled Maggie's cremation with dignity, and included some unexpected and thoughtful touches to honor her.
Although I'm sad that Maggie is gone and miss her terribly, I am grateful that she got the best of care and bedside manner during the very tough last few months of her life.
We will look forward to someday bringing a new dog here to be treated just as well. -

I'm very happy with the service here! (insert cheesy grin now)
I was referred by a local who used them when he had to put down his beloved dog. He was treated with respect and care and was pleased with his experience...He doesn't usually say good things about too many places.
From the wide open parking lot, to the airy entry and wide waiting room, friendly and efficient front line staff, I found myself liking what I saw. When I looked down and my dog wasn't struggling with me to leave...it made me very happy!
Short wait times, caring and competent vet techs and vets, my Molly received very good attention and care. When you check out, the onsite pharmacy already has your meds ready to pick up, so you just pay your bill, pick up your meds and go.
You could probably go to 1-800 pet meds...but it's more time involved and I noticed that the prices were fairly close and in one instance lower priced than petmeds.
Molly, my dog has seen Dr. Clifton and Dr. Shandro both of whom are professional and caring. Neither were interested in doing anything more than treat what we were there for...an ear infection and another time, an arthritic limp.
Now that I have a chicken we'll see how they do with poultry! :) -

Sadly this review is just for one experience. After bringing my cat to Adobe the staff said that we would need to bring her to UC Davis if she was to make it. Because of the severity of her condition the staff at UC were also unable to help her, so we ended up making the decision to put her to sleep in the ICU. The following week I received what I felt was "intended" to be a condolence call from the vet at Adobe. This is where things got weird. While I was in a healthy moving-on sort of way, the vet was very interested in talking about the case, talking about science, medicine this, medicine that, quality of life..... UGH! I made the decision and I don't regret it. Please just say, "We heard you decided to put your cat to sleep. We are sorry. If there is anything we can do, or if you have any questions please call." Another client may have loved talking about the science of the case, and may have appreciated the intensity of the conversation, but it wasn't for me.
I hate the review I did so I want to update it--- I have had my cats' treated here many times and was very happy with Dr. Ryan Knoles and Dr. Dave Roos. They are both just straight shooters (not literally) which is what I like. The new building is very clean, modern and nice. The wait time can be a bit long when you call but it isn't a rushed call when it's your turn, so that is great. I also like that it is such a big practice that someone can always see you for last minute issues. Extended hours are great. -

I brought my cat here this past fall after she'd ingested some human medication, and was pleased with the service I received. The vet I saw was attentive, competent and understanding. Adobe gets 5 stars because I had to leave my cat overnight, and the staff there was required to communicate about her condition to my husband, as I had to fly across the country within hours.
They did a good job of flushing my cat's system and monitoring the level of her liver enzymes, which were slightly elevated. My husband was able to pick up my cat's prescription and administer it to her without a problem.
I very much like their lobby, which is large and wide enough to safely and comfortably accommodate both cats and dogs, which has not been the case at other animal hospitals. -

No, or at least not the vet we got. Generally, I only go to bulldog "specialists," but the vet I wanted to see was unavailable and they recommended I find someone to see immediately. Adobe, being one of the closer establishments with pretty good reviews was where we ended up.
What vet tells you NOT to clean the ears? He also said he wasn't sure what was wrong, but that we should put the dog under anesthesia to see whether it was an issue with his palate. No, sorry. You may have a vet degree, but I'm not sure how or why they gave it to you. You're not putting my dog under just to take a look.
Needless to say, we're off for a second opinion. But talk about a waste of $70 just for an office visit! -

We brought our dog here after she was vomiting and not eating. I called before I brought her down. I knew she was becoming dehydrated and would only get worse. I brought her down, and waited two hours before even seen. There was one or two people resembling receptionist, and spoke very little English. The Doctor finally looked at our dog and wanted to admit her. But wanted all cash, 700.00 in cash only. Then additional thereafter for tests and or more time spent in their care. I was not getting a clear answer, from the Doctor, and was very frustrated and even asked him to run basic tests that I thought he would already know about i.e. Parvo, Electrolytes etc. I was astonished that he had not run these tests first thing.
This Doctors eyes lite up (literally) when we handed him 700.00 in cash. Part of me wanted to take my sweet dog home give her Pepto and some spoonfuls of water, and baby her. I even asked maybe that would be a good thing, but then like a cellmate, the warden came and got out family loved dog and the person taking her had no comment, look, empathy towards us at all.
My Husband and i wanted our dog home about then and to another Vet.
I convinced my husband to get our dog out of this vet mill house and wanted to take her elsewhere.
The Doctor then said, "You paid the bill, I can;t give you a refund". But, you can take your dog with you.
I am still in shock.
My husband talked me into keeping her there.
I took her out after one day, first thing that morning. I asked the Doctor what they did for her. They said gave her fluids. That's all. And, anti-biotics. 700.00 for that?
I got her home, in her cotton padded doggy bed, spoon fed her water, and watched her temp, skin tone and all ,everything I could ( I am an LVN nurse). I also gave her only half the amount of antibiotics this creepy doctor admin'd. For she was showing signs of toxicity with a high MG RX. She started getting better soon thereafter.
I would AVOID this beautiful strore fronted, colorful ,large, well lite and cheery FAUX empathy, VET with all my tears and love for your pet.
Showed ZERO empathy, fighting, arguing, way more than any other VET price ( this was during day hours) . I know tests are involved, caring for our pets. but there was only ONE caretaker there at NIGHT after hours and get this, he was NOT a VET TECH. ( I asked him what license he had) He said I take care of pets at night!
Lord help me.
AVOID.

My poor pumpkin had to get double ACL surgery. Dr. Roos took him in promptly and took very good care of him. He even called daily for checkups for a few days after. My boy started limping again about a week after surgery, and on his day off, Dr. Roos came in and checked him out! I have already recommended him to a friend of mine who's dog also had to have the surgery.
The only downfall was that after paying all that money, we were not given a harness to help him walk before he could walk on his own. We were given a towel even though there was a harness in the office. I would think that they would provide those for us. -

What is the point of having such a large office with so many vets if it's nearly impossible to get a same day appointment? So if my dog is in distress and hurting really horribly, we have to pay 135 for an office visit (after 5 with no apt, because everything was already taken) and wait over an hour?
The vets are very nice here , but smaller offices become more personal with their clients. -

This review is based on a single experience I had at Adobe off hours.
My bf and I had a cat, Ashley, who was diagnosed with heart failure. We knew she was pretty bad off when, even after we gave her diuretics, she started showing signs of labored breathing. Our vet was closed, so we had to take her to Adobe. We knew we had to put her to sleep and it was an absolutely devastating realization.
When the receptionists saw our cat was panting, she immediately called for a vet and we were rushed to the back exam room. The vet, Ryan Knowles I think, tried to do a quick ultrasound to see what's going on, but her chest cavity was so filled with fluids, he couldn't see her heart. He told us he would do a more in-depth ultrasound, no charge, so we would be sure.
They got her shaved and we squeezed in to see her ultrasound. Bad news. They put her in an oxygen box thing while we talked, but we knew before we even went there that it was the end of the road for Ashley.
They were very kind and so sympathetic. When we were in the room, right after they inserted the IV to inject the drug, they made sure we were ready, and continually consoled us. I have to admit I was pretty inconsolable at the time, but I completely appreciated Ryan's kindness.
A week or so later, we received a condolences card from them, and on the card was a cat that bore a striking resemblance to our cat. It still chokes me up thinking about that kind of attention to detail.
My point is, they were amazing during such a difficult time. -

I think I've written this before - seems like the amazing disappearing post...
I've been super clear with the front staff that my dog Phoebe is not friendly. I tend to get appointments in the early morning before the hustle and the bustle. Every time I've been there we've had to wait, not like 5 minute, I am talking 15 to 20 minutes. I'm also very specific about the doctors we like to see since Phoebe gets used to people and she tends to not "freak out" as much. Every time I've tried to get the same doctor, the doctor is not available.
The last time we were there we waited for the doctor for 15 minutes in a room and when she walked in Phoebe "freaked out". We had specifically asked that the doctor be in the room first, Poo tends to freak out less. So enough said! Well, the thing that made me really mad is the fact that the doctor made it seem like it was my fault - I was very clear with the front staff that the doctor should be aware of Phoebe's issues.
Understand that my dog is a rescue from the Miami Humane Society. I knew she had "issues" when I adopted her. I live within her means and I try to make sure that people know her limitations. What I don't like is being made to feel terrible when there is not much I can do about the situation. Yes, I know my dog should be socialized but she's 8 years old and there is not much we can do with her at this point. I've seen 3 behaviorist and they all say the same thing, she is a nervous dog.
Needless to say we take our dog somewhere else now. -

I still love this place and commute all the way from the city of San Francisco to take my 2 year old Boxer with oodles of auto immune troubles. This is a large vet clinic so they don't spend their time nickel and dime-ing you with test after biopsy after test. If there's a short-cut and it is still within the best interests of your pets, they'll recommend it, especially if it saves us humans money.
In my last review I spoke about having to wait, well they've definitely improved their quality and efficiency of service since I wrote the last review, and in all honesty it wasn't all that bad to begin with.
If you've got a sick pet or are simply looking for a better vet than the one you and Fido currently frequent, at least give this place a try, I highly doubt you'll be let down.1 Previous Review: Show all »

My dog is currently having bouts of pacing and hyperventilation at night. He's been to the SF ER and 2 vets and 1 specialist with no answers.
The pain meds stopped working and he stopped eating so we decided to make an hour drive because of a good recommendation by a co worker.
We were seen at shift change at 7am Sunday, some waiting we saw Dr Denise did an EKG, blood pressure and so so exam (not that thorough). Prescribe additional Prednisone and baby food supplement.
ER will do standard x ray and blood test if you don't have them already, our visit was only $200, but will be significantly more if tests need to be done.
Vet ER is like human ER they stabilize condition until you can see your regular doctor.
This place and people are really nice, big waiting room, and modern overall everyone was nice, but the care and exam detail are just average.
The followup call a few days later was a nice touch. -

I have been taking my dogs and cats to Adobe Animal Hospital for over 20 years. They have been with us - and our zoo of 4 dogs and 3 cats through minor issues and major emergencies. Everyone from the folks staffing the reception area to the pharmacy to the vets and the technicians knows their stuff and treats our animals well.
They delight in helping us get started with our babies... our puppies and kittens. We have gotten advice and guidance on how to train them to be social animals who "get along" with other animals and humans. They have counseled us through the aches and pains of doggie and kitty middle age. And they have graciously helped us say good bye to more than one of our best friends.
I love knowing that they are just around the corner - 24 x 7 - and have the complete records for each of our pets. When I need them - they are there. Thank you! -

As anyone who owns rabbits knows- it can be incredibly tough to find a knowledgeable vet in the area. I would not say this clinic, or at least a few of the vets I have seen there, would be considered a good place to bring your bunny.
We brought our bunny in with an upper respiratory infection- they gave us antibiotics and sent us on our way... failing to tell us that the meds could potentially cause the bunny to go into GI stasis. We took her back 4 days later because she started developing weird symptoms (which we later found out were attributed to the stasis) The vet seemed like the only rabbit training they had was an exotic class back in school... She prescribed a medication and right before we went to pay she realized they had never used it on rabbits and it wouldn't have done anything anyway. She also FAILED to catch that she was going into stasis- the pain alone from that condition is enough to kill a rabbit. We brought her in 2 days later because she had stopped eating entirely and seemed frantic and anxious all the time. We then found out she was in stasis. We had to ask him several times after he suggested that we consider putting her in the ICU whether or not he believed it was necessary. It would have been incredibly expensive (especially adding in all the previous visits and medication). After listening to him hem and haw he gave us medication for the stasis (but none for the pain) and sent us home. She passed away the next day while we were away at work. After having her adorable fuzzy face greet me everyday when I got home for the past 5 years- it was absolutely devastating to find her cold and stiff on our bathroom rug.
The overall service wasn't too bad- but it was really hit or miss. The first visit and the third visit were pleasant... or at least as pleasant as a vet appointment with a dying rabbit could be. When attempting to make an appointment for the second visit- the receptionist got into an argument with me because I wasn't IMMEDIATELY rushing her in. She made me feel like a horrible pet owner it made me seriously consider finding a different clinic to take her to. I kept going because they knew the history with her illness. I should have listened to my gut.
I have yet to research non-emergency rabbit vets in the area, but if your bunny needs help and you're willing to pay a little extra for an emergency visit I'd highly suggest calling up South Peninsula Emergency Clinic and asking for Dr. Thelan. We've been to him before and love him, but his availability isn't the best. He is by far the most knowledgeable and friendly rabbit vet that I have met in this area and will actually sit down with you and give you any information you could possibly need. I should mention that the emergency visits there are no more expensive than at Adobe. Plus, Adobe's availability can be so bad that you'd have to do an emergency visit with them anyway. -

This review is for the service I received two years ago. While living in Palo Alto, my precious cat (ive had since he was 4 weeks old) stopped breathing at 11 PM. I rushed him to the only night time emergency spot in Palo Alto. After 9 hours, he was still unable to breathe on his own but barely in an oxygen tank. Since they close at 8 AM, they apologized to me but explained I had to take my cat and leave as they were closed. They told me I should go to Adobe.
Adobe was great. Right when I was crying uncontrollably and signing papers to put my kitty in permanent slumber, a girl rushed out of the back and yelled for me to stop! My baby was breathing again! It was the longest 24 hours in my life! They even helped make his meds more affordable to me since he was then diagnosed with asthma.
When i went into the back to check on him the young ladies working there had him purring and making muffins!
Thank you Adobe! -

Hmmm, so when it was in the old location, I loved this place.
I moved away and came back and they had had a gorgeous new facility on El Camino. But, I gotta say, the staff and service have not been that great. Everyone raves about this place. So maybe I just had bad luck?
I have two cats. One of my cats really hated the vet. She has never had that reaction before. He didn't even examine her because he couldn't deal with her. Now you'd think he'd be able to handle it. Why am I paying for an exam if you aren't going to examine her?
My cats eat prescription food since one of them had a calcium oxillate crystal surgically removed from her bladder. This place would not give me the prescription for their food. So I had to spend an extra 30 mins trying to get the prescription food.
I like that they have emergency services and the facility is clean. I'll try another vet and see how that goes... -

I use adobe as an emergency backup to our regular vet. They are 24/7 thats the best part as a rabbit will pick the most inoportune time to get sick...like a Saturday night or a Holiday. You have to call ahead to make sure a rabbit vet is on duty though.
I have all my pets registered there just in case. Its a well run office, nice staff.Listed in: Pets

We were lucky that we live close to this 24-Hr Animal Hospital. We had to rush our dog this morning (1:30 am) to the ER and my husband and I couldn't be any happier that a place like this exist.
The Vet is so nice and was very informative. Her knowledge calmed our panic minds. And the staff are super nice. I just have to mention extra thanks to Shannon who gladly offered to help me on my insurance docs (since we are newbie). But again, the vet and the 2 staff that helped us are just EXCELLENT!
I was really about to give 5 stars--it's just that we waited a bit longer than i would have hoped cause we were the only ones there.
BUT then again, the service was great! -

I made an appointment for today about 2-3 weeks ago. They moved to a new location = nicer facility, easy parking, very client/pet waiting area, plus 4 receptionist in the front. :)
Staff is very helpful and friendly. Dr. Jane Johnson took very good care of my Chinchillas.
The female chinchilla developed dental issues (eye infection, to drooling, matted fur, lost of fur on the under chin/mouth/front paws). Dr. Jane Johnson said it was best to give her anesthesia shot and file down the rear sharp teeth (one on each side).
Love how AAH invoice break-down is:
Male Chinchilla Office visit $69
Female Chinchilla Office visit additional animal $45
(They gave me a pretty nice discount! I l-o-v-e you AAH)
Anesthesia pocket pet $71
Teeth Trim Molars $89
Owning 2 adorable Chinchillas = PRICELESS
I thought they we're gonna take both of my limbs and an arm, but they only took an arm. J/K-it was worth the piece of mind to know my pets are going to be fine.Listed in: Places I H-E-A-R-T

Having worked with an animal rescue group for a few years, I've been to Adobe many many times both with rescue animals and with my own cat and they are amazing. One good thing about going to a large vet office like this as opposed to a smaller one is that if your pet needs something like ultrasound (etc) done, they already have the equipment and can do the procedure much more quickly, and at a lower cost, than small vet offices who often have to call in a specialist for things like this.
Many of the vets are wonderful. I saw a few of them whenever possible so can say without a doubt that you can't go wrong seeing Dr. Derenzi (especially for dogs) Dr. Boltz (especially for cats) and Dr. Elizabeth Rogers (for both!). Front desk staff are always so friendly as well. -

What a wonderful animal hospital! I brought in my pet rat to see Dr. Nakamura, and was very happy with my experience. I highly recommend pet rat owners to bring them here! Front staff was very kind and helpful. Cost was VERY fair for a small animal -- approx. $150 for the office visit, treatment of my rat's abscess, and two prescriptions. Overall a great experience, thank you again!
