Review from Sarah L.
Dover, NH
An excellent independent coffee shop in Dover. Adelle's has the best seasonal specials and friendly staff.
My usual drinks rotate between a soy iced latte and a mocha soy iced latte and they are always made perfectly. I love that I can always taste the espresso, even when I get a flavored drink. The seasonal drinks are amazing though. One of my favorites is the sea-salted caramel hot chocolate. Always unique flavor combinations either hot or cold.
If you are looking for something eat, Adelle's also has you covered. There are nice big bagels with hummus or cream cheese (veggie is good) along with pastries, scones, cookies, bars and breads like zucchini and pumpkin. From time to time they also carry delicious vegan cupcakes. A warning: the brownies are super rich but so yummy with a hot tea.
They are good at composting, recycling and offer discounts on using your own mug or cold cup. I purchased one of their hot travel mugs which is ceramic instead of plastic with food-friendly silicone top. It's the best travel mug I've had.
Adelle's also hosts locate artists so you can come in and get a coffee and a painting in the same visit.
If you are looking for coffee in Dover, stop by Adelle's. -
Review from Steve N.
Adelle's is Brooklyn or Austin or Houston in Dover. The staff is terrific. The setting is lovely. The drinks, though, are only 3-star, so far. The fourth star arises from the feeling that you're somewhere when you're at Adelle's, but all of Dover is somewhere to me. And the fourth star is my way of urging you to check this place out. The downsides of the drinks are that they're pricey, and Dover cafes have this paradigm of handing the cup to the customer to fill from a pump-decanter. I don't care for that, especially when the drink's a red-eye.
Adelle's was way nicer than someplace up the road, where my request for suggestions was met by an admission by the server that she didn't drink much coffee.
Props to Rachel for buzz-driven, friendly interaction. -

Adelles is really neat :) The atmosphere is really artsy and charming. I like how creative their menu is and how every employee is really part of the atmosphere. They have an extensive menu with tons of espresso drinks, brewed coffee, frappes, chai, and some food items as well. There are not too many tables, so beware if you want a seat at a busy time. However, there is free wifi, which is awesome. This cafe definitely attracts the locals and especially artists. I LOVE the atmosphere....and the latte art :)

Small, charming and eclectic, local art on the walls. Excellent service. Great espresso and pots of tea. Free wifi.

Adelle's can actually be summed up in one word...fantastic!
This coffeehouse does two things, it feels like coffee houses used to and it is a place that other coffeehouses should strive to be like. The staff is friendly and inviting, making this first time visitor feel less like a customer and more like a regular.
Adelle's found its niche and does it with passion, it is the type of place that when you first walk in you wonder "why did it take me so long to come in here" and "why isn't there a line out the door?"
My first visit sure, but definitely not my last. -

Two words: Tiger Tea. Freakin' delicious.

My favorite coffee shop in dover. After it opened I didn't dare to step foot in Cafe on the Corner ever again. Additionally, some of my favorite employees from Cafe transitioned over to Adelle's which is great.
This, to me, is the perfect cafe- and now that I live in Boston, I sorely miss it (or anything remotely close to it in the city unfortunately), but always stop in whenever I'm back in NH.
The staff are really genuinely friendly
The music they play is fantastic
The coffee they serve (and chai!) is amazing, and their pastries are always fresh and delicious
I've gone to Adelle's for many reasons- to grab a coffee on the go, to meet friends (where we often end up staying for hours), to hold interviews with professors, to sit use my laptop for hours on end (free WIFI- another thing that is nearly non-existent in Boston)- and it's always a warm and inviting atmosphere that makes it difficult to leave! -

Everything about this shop is what one imagines when they think of a cool coffee house- delicious LOCAL coffee (coming from Seacoast Coffee Roasters in Portland, Maine with organic and fair-trade options!!!!) The Dark Mexican (Fair-trade/organic) roast seems to be the most popular but maybe that is just because I find it the most delicious. You can even have your coffee in an individual french press delivered right to your table!
The tea comes from the LOCAL White Heron Tea Company located in Rollinsford, NH. This company is solid and also features organic and fair-trade teas. The chai is incredible and when the season is right you can order a "Chaider"-that's right, chai AND apple cider.
White Heron also crafts an impeccable breakfast wrap, featuring homemade vegetarian sausage, eggs, potatoes and cheese. It feels so good when your favorite coffee shop starts carrying a breakfast item, and then when you see it is vegetarian, and then when you taste it-the only word for this is "!!!"
The baked good are also delicious and, yet again, LOCAL, coming from Monkey Business Bakery in South Berwick. The blueberry scones taste like what you imagine when you think about a blueberry scone, and the doughnuts taste like heaven fell out of the sky, got a hole taken out of it and landed right on your plate.
The owners and baristas seem to truly love what they do. They are knowledgeable, interesting, friendly and compassionate to all their patrons. The music is always interesting and the baristas would love to talk to you about it. I see one person was displeased with the "grungy/granola" types at Adelle's-but isn't that a plus? I would much rather have an EXTRA-ordinary crowd at a coffee shop than a bland, ordinary one. You could walk down the street to another coffeeshop to experience the mundane.
Adelle's hangs local art on their walls, has local musicians play and really completes the Dover, NH experience. If you visit on a week night, you will see lots of reading, laptops taking advantage of the free wi-fi and probably your friends. If you go on a weekend morning you will see the same stuff but will be around smiling kids and happy families. -

I was sitting in Cafe on the Corner one day in Dover, and was as displeased w/ the place as I could get...service isn't so great, prices are high for so-so product...
That's when I checked my Aloqua app on my Droid and read all the good reviews about Adelle's and decided to give it a try...
The truth is that it lives up to all the good reviews other yelpers have given it!
It's a small coffee house...but has a big heart! Service was FAAAABBBULOUS! my mocha latte was SUPERB! And the baked goods looked wonderful...if I had time to try them, I would, but I will save that for my next visit!
I loved the personal/local touches in the place the best...it will definitely be the place I go to get coffee every week while my son takes guitar lessons @ Earcraft...Cafe on the Corner has lost another customer! -

I'm in New Hampshire visiting a friend and needed somewhere to get a coffee and sit down to do some work, picking this place based on Yelp ratings.
So, really, a big thanks to you guys, because you got it right: this was a really nice and cozy place with great coffee and a very kind barista. The background music was some pretty good stuff, too, but at a mellow level that allowed me to concentrate on my work.
I'd like to give this 4.5 stars, if possible. I'm erring on the side of four only because it's my first Yelp review, and it seems weird to start out throwing up a five. But I have absolutely nothing bad to say about this place. I hope you like it, too. -

A haven in Dover. Stopped in to chat over coffee and a pastry and stayed for a breakfast wrap. Great coffee and ambiance, and the good eats are an added bonus.

After repeated business I'm becoming a much bigger fan of this place. It turns out they do offer small 1-person french presses... woohoo! Also the baristas are all friendly and know their craft.

Dover, NH
By far the best coffee in Dover.
The atmosphere has an artsy-coffee house, and is relaxing.
Unfortunately, the space is a little tight, and there's limited outdoor seating, but if you're in Dover this is a must-stop. -

I have long been a Cafe on the Corner hater. Threw my money at them for years, as there was never another alternative once the Dover Soul coffee spot shut down. YAYYYYYYYYYYY ADELLE'S!!! Great coffee, yummy savory croissants, and the staff is awesome- genuinely welcoming and enthusiastic. Also always excellent music and free wi-fi. Perfect neighborhood spot to while away a morning. Try the super delicious hot maple lemonade.

I was expecting more after seeing the great reviews. I didn't love the atmosphere, but they had good cheap coffee.

First, I'm not a coffee expert or a snob... I just enjoy strong, bold, dark coffee (I think people cringe when we serve coffee at home). This is why I'm unapologetic in my enjoyment of Starbucks and don't enjoy most of the watery/weak/foo foo coffee that is served in more "well known" independent coffeehouses in the area (nor am I impressed with their hipness... just give me coffee).
I say this because I was pretty impressed with the strength of the iced coffee I received at Adelle's and really enjoyed it (although watch out if you like your coffee dark, their cream pitcher pours fast). Great price for a large too.
I realize that iced coffee is typically brewed stronger but I'm hoping that their hot coffee is brewed just as strong and bold.
They also did a great job decorating the place.
On a personal note, it was a nice touch that the owner smiled and said hello to our 1yr-old daughter. You could tell he is a proud dad himself and truly welcomed families into his store. -

I love this little place! I love the staff, I wished it was bigger but oh well bigger isn't always the best.

Nice little coffee shop tucked around the corner from Dos Amigos. I went in with a friend looking to kill some time, and very pleasantly did so over a cup of coffee and a complimentary board game. The atmosphere was cozy and the guy working was exceptionally friendly. Highly recommended.

What a wonderful little coffeeshop. Great pastries (I'm pretty sure they get them from a local pastry shop - Monkey Business in South Berwick), excellent espresso drinks and Italian sodas. AND they're creative! Try a Laura Palmer...the Twin Peaks reference alone is enough to win my heart!

As many other people said, Adelle's is the best, and obviously, my favorite coffee shop in Dover. It's the perfect size, cozy but roomy at the same time, with the perfect sophisticated home decor, with one of the friendliest and most personable staffs you will find around. The coffee and tea variety is outstanding. I've been going to Adelle's for about a year and half now, and I still don't think I've tried everything yet. The seasonal specialty drinks are amazing and fairly priced, as are the delicious baked goods. I find Adelle's to be like a second home, I'm always in and out, and it's great because I like to go there to get away from my everyday life and relax for a while - which I can very easily do because the atmosphere is very welcoming and comfortable, even if it's your first time in. But after your first visit, you really have no choice but to go back. Buy ten drinks, get the eleventh free! Experience Adelle's local love!
