This place is so cool! It's hidden upstairs in an old building on Hollywood Blvd., and it reeks of old Hollywood glamour. I am going to forgive them on their prices, because costume prices, in shop or online, are pretty standard and known to be expensive. Adele's is awesome because they have literally anything you could want. They get the fifth star for the accessories they have to truly complete most costumes. Shopping here is so much fun. The staff is so quirky and helpful. The place is a giant mess to navigate through, but the staff can find anything. Plus, it's so much fun to sift through and find a gem that suits you. They carry a great variety in sizes as well. It wasn't a problem finding a costume I liked in my size.

    3.5 Stars averaged up.

The material I rented was high quality. The Phantom mask was made of Plaster of Paris and painted silver. The cape was made of heavy duchess satin and was floor length.

The lady who helped me look for a costume and decide on one was very very helpful and very nice.

But the place is VERY cramped and it was hard to look for anything in there. They do have a system set up and they have sections for everything. Example, they have the pre-packaged costumes you would see at most Halloween stores for sale in one section, the medieval section, western, Greek, scary, etc.

They gave me 6 days to return the costume! That's really nice!

It's really expensive. $39 to rent a mask and a cape.

My 100th review! Waawaaweewa what an accomplishment.

Ok, done celebrating now. On with the review! This place was a last minute gift from the heavens during Halloween weekend, but they seriously have all sorts of costumes + decorations for any event you could possibly be attending. A bit of a clusterf*k but not difficult to navigate on your own. Yes, they have rentals as well as items for purchase so that can ease your spending a bit. Lots of childrens items, too, in case you got some little ones. Suits, full animal costumes (furry?), medieval dresses, a whole room just for hats, and shelves full of tights/leggings. NO underwear or undergarments though so get those somewhere else. Friendly service. Will be back for sure!

Street parking only, but lots avail.

This is the only costume shop in Hollywood that I can depend on for reasonable prices, good quality, and fantastic service. Hidden away in the upstairs part of an old 1930s building, Adele's has been the best costume shop in town since 1945. I have gotten many costumes of my childhood here and when I saw them pop up on my Yelp app, I was absolutely thrilled that they were still alive and well.

Family owned and operated, this hidden gem may look like a big ole' mess on the inside, but each and every employee knows exactly where every type of costume is. Whether it is for a rental or to purchase, Adele's has a large selection for kids, teens, and adults, and they're open all year round, too. Prices aren't dirt cheap, but are fair-- as the quality of many of their costumes is a little nicer than what you would get at Target. What I love about Adele's is that you never leave home empty handed. Sure, there are fancier places that have better selections for masks and make-up, but for the average costume party, they've got you covered.

Aside from their vast selection, they also carry many sizes and let you fit them in a fitting room. Rental prices start at $40 (and go up depending on quality of costume), while costumes to purchase start at $15 and onward. The average adult sized costume runs about $30-50. Not bad, considering the $20 adult costumes elsewhere are a little fragile and can only be worn once or twice. Don't be discouraged if you fall in love with something but the rack doesn't have your size...they will most likely have it in the back!

$40 costumes...gosh, mine cost at least $600, they are made to measure, and any Santa in the World knows about Adele's.

I was asked not long ago, "Why should I hire you as my Santa", at the conclusion of my call back interview.

"Because"  answered with eyes twinkling and dimples well pronounced, "When I put on that suit, I AM Santa Claus".

Trust an old Santa, there is no peer when you are wearing Adele's.

Why the 3 stars? The people working there stare at you like you are a criminal stealing from them. I liked the selection (think huge costume store but better than Party City- much more accessories, if you were just needing a few things to complete your outfit), but jeez, stop creeping me out. Even my father-in-law didn't like the feeling he was getting from these people. The worst of them was the middle-aged fellow wearing glasses and had a mustache (kind of a nerdy type but who could turn out to be an axe murderer), who kept glaring at me, the whole time when I was in his sight. It was really annoying. Also, some of the items looked like they were sitting there a while since there was dust on the plastic wrapping/packaging. A handheld feather duster would do the job just fine.

I don't know if I would want to shop there after that intense unwanted accusing staring (I hate staring to begin with).

Great customer service, great selection, absolutely filled to the rafters with costumes for every shape and size. Lots of cool vintage stuff too. The staff helped me find just what I needed. Parking right out front, easy to find. It's all good!

So, granted, coming here the night before Halloween was something I probably should have thought about a little more in advance, but, my lord, is a tiny bit of organization too much to ask? All I'm saying is I was looking for a santa hat (Yes, on Halloween. Stop judging.) and to find one I had to navigate a labyrinth like something out of the Shining, only instead of trees, the walls were made out of plastic bins filled with crap. Also, I almost stepped on a five year old in a storm trooper costume. It is impossible to pick an item off the shelf here without knocking over lots of other things. Shopping for something specific is basically the equivalent of going into a cluttered garage or basement and trying to find an unlabeled box that you sort of half-remember maybe leaving in a corner or something ten years ago when you first moved in. Good luck.

I should add the staff WAS very helpful, especially considering the utter chaos into which the entire store had descended 10 minutes before closing on the night before Halloween. And the prices are totally fine. I got a walking stick, a hat and round glasses (I was making a Waldo costume) for not very much money at all.

I went today and they nailed it.  Lots of choices for costumes and accessories.  Best of all they weren't too expensive, their prices were much better than a few of the other places on the westside I'd been to this week.  Many costumes were on sale and they didn't mark stuff up.  Super helpful too.

This place has been here forever and not only is it a great one stop shop for all things Halloween costume related, it's open all year long, making dress up a fun affair for anytime.

The folks that work here are super helpful and cool and everytime I've come in here, I leave feeling like the queen of the ball, or Charlie Chaplin or a clown or a...you get the drift. So check it out, their stock is awesome and again they will help you find the perfect costume that won't make you look like an ass, unless of course you are going as a donkey, in which case, please don't email me ;)

    Happy Halloween!

I am both sad and embarrassed to say that I lived within walking distance of this place for almost 5.5 years and never went in until recently. The reason? I couldn't find the entrance that is basically right in front of your face...heh.. :D

Verdict? Fantastic! It's small, but what it lacks for in size it makes up for in extreme tetris style shelf packing.

If you're claustrophobic, this isn't the place for you..but if you want to find anything from rentals to props to real costumes to porno style costumes, they have it!

Oh...and for you Santacon folks out there, they tout the best selection of Santa suits for all your debauchery needs!

it was the day before halloween.... as usual, i had NOTHING planned.  my friend and i came up with the random idea to be bride and groom, only i would be the bride and she would be the groom.  i was instantly in need of a white tux and ADELE'S hooked me up!  and let me tell you, they have EVERYTHING.  my friend still needed a few pieces for her groom costume and adele's had her covered but i'm fairly positive that if she still needed a few pieces for her loch ness monster costume, they STILL woulda had her covered.  the quality of the stuff is a bit weathered, but you really can't beat it for the selection and price.

BEST COSTUME SHOP EVER!! I've been coming here ever since I moved to LA for my Halloween needs (which, to be honest, are for accessories more than anything else), but Adele's has anything and everything you can imagine. Family owned and operated since 1945, the staff is extremely knowledgeable and friendly. They have everything from prefab costumes to full rental regalia if you're going all out...plus they're prices are totally reasonable. Worth the drive across town - don't waste your time trying to find costumes at Aahs!

The people that work at Adeles are really nice but the place was so unorganized.  They really seemed to want to find what I needed (a catwoman or other superhero costume for a 2 year old) but there was way too much stuff all over the place to find anything.  The prices seemed a little high as well.  Maybe it's because it's hard to keep a costume business open year round?  If you don't know what you want and just want to look around this place could be perfect for you.
