I've been here several times, but this was my first trip since the new menu. The sweetbreads were very good, but thought the prices was pretty steep ($15) for about four small pieces. Service is still good.
UPDATE...
Less than 24 hours later, I received a message from Charlie at Adele's.
As anyone who's spent time in Carson City knows, Adele's is an institution, and this is why. What message that sends that they are listening. Business owners, especially in the service industry, are missing out if they're not paying attention to their customers. Yelp is such a great tool in this respect. It says a lot about the management team at Adele's that they not only pay attention, but that they engage with their customers. That sets them apart from their competition.
Charlie pointed out that they have tried to be aware of pricing on the new menus. He also noted that there is a greater emphasis on using organic, local, ingredients. All of that has to eat at their margins. Those are attributes I'm willing to pay for. Glad Charlie took the time to remind me of this.
I will definitely be back to Adele's. In fact, hoping to support them with the Dining Out For Life event on April 26. -
Review from George C.
Carson City, NV
Adele's is a pretty decent place in some areas, and lacking in others...A few of the rave reviews on yelp seem like they were written about a entirely different place.. Adele's has a great Victorian atmosphere, and the seating was comfortable. Some decent art, some nice oils, are hanging on the walls, and the place has a beautiful vibrant glow from the soft and warm lighting...George and Cindy were at Adele's for a birthday dinner, and while the Adele's staff was always friendly, there were too many food and grog mistakes for a long time renowned Carson City restaurant ...First off, George wanted a oatmeal stout beer that was strongly recommended by our smiling and bright server, Miss "B"...
We had been seated promptly, and Miss B knew the menu very well...we added a order of their house nachos as a appetizer, and paid the $15.00 corkage fee for our bottle of John Evan "Talking Bull" wine...About 15 minutes later, our beer had not arrived...As the bar was perhaps 24 feet away, this seemed like a long wait for a thirsty man...We were then told by Miss B. that the keg had "blown a tap" and our stout was not immediately available..We quickly asked for any dark beer, and were soon given a glass of decent dark beer...When our nachos did not arrive after another 10 minutes, we inquired about those...
We were told the kitchen was busy...as Adele's was almost one quarter filled, that idea seemed remote...How long does it take to make a load of nachos at home? A whole 20-25 minutes? Give us a break-no one should wait 20-25 minutes for nachos...After 5 more minutes the nachos arrived...Decent, but certainly no wow factor...For dinner, Cindy chose the 41.50 salmon special-the salmon in a dill caper sauce...it proved to be a smallish portion of fish with small portions of vegetables...The General is old school-and he is definitely into large quantities of chow when he is done riding the range all day long...The salmon was decent, tasty , but nothing to write home about...The hamburger , a 12.50 Adele's special, was seriously overcooked for being a requested medium rare ...Our server, Miss B, was always very friendly, and the burger was quickly remade. But again, the hamburger honestly had no wow factor....For 12.50, a burger better be large-and good. This one was neither...
Burger Details? It was sort of a flat tasting piece of meat, that was under built on a rather dry, ho hum bun...The french fries were certainly overcooked, too...Seriously, a Car'ls Jr. $6.00 burger is better-and costs far less than Adele's..
Adele's has a few important issues...Unlike some other Carson City places the staff were all friendly, attentive, and efficient. But the idea posted by others this place could strongly compete in a market like San Francisco, Chicago or Los Angeles is laughable...The new menu is too large, and we think Adele's is trying to be all things to all people... Narrow the menu down, and start throwing some comp bread rolls out with the ice water-which also took 5 minutes to get.....
Cindy wanted dessert, and choose a piece of chocolate pecan pie-decent-but no better than you would get at a solid buffet like Harrah's Reno-and at Harrah's, it would be a "all the pie and other rich dessert stuff you could hold down" dessert.. Personally we expected more from Adele's...Adele's was like a movie everyone raves about, but when you see it, you quietly say, to yourself, "is that all there is?" -

Carson City's Finest!
Charming and quaint Adel's brings back the old school charm of what fine dining is all about. From the cozy lounge of the bar to the classic decor of the dining room you always feel at home here at Adel's.
I must admit that the specials list was quite lengthy, but there were some great selections to choose from for sure! After much deliberation I jumped on the Bacon Wrapped Fillet train....it was fantastic!! My wife had the Barrel Cut Pork Chop.. MMMM Good, a taste of heaven!
The wine list was excellent with great selections. We chose the 06' Jordan Cab to cap off a great evening!
Adel's is a perfect spot to celebrate any occasion!
Thank You Adel! -

This is not only a great lunch and dinner restaurant, the breakfast is amazing. I have been going to Adele's for years and have never been disappointed. Now that breakfast is being served, I go at least once a week.
This is no longer "just for special occasions" it is great for that weekly treat. The menu is amazing, everything from a gourmet pizza or hamburger to a full on gourmet meal.
This has been know for a "special occasion" destination...but with the new menu items every week can make you feel special.
You have to try the breakfast...wasabi bloody Mary and chicken fried steak on waffles. OMG heart attack on a plate, but so worth it. I will diet all week just to have this dish on a Sunday sitting in the bar by the fire.
Carson City is so lucky to have this restaurant. -

Humongous menu with pizza, duck, veal, steak, seafood, bbq, and more. Multiple daily specials. We came in 45min before closing and enjoyed friendly attentive service from David but never felt rushed. Cozy rambling Victorian, a true oasis for Carson City. We had escargots and mussel appetizers swimming in delicious sauces, followed by seafood-stuffed steak and seafood pasta as entrées.
So why only 4 stars and not 5? The next day, both of us had identical -- how to put this tactfully? -- stinky (like rancid cat piss) "loose movements" attributed no doubt to those mussels we shared.
Adèle is like that smoking hot chick you banged, the one who gave you the herpes. I'd do her again. -

My wife and I stopped in spontaneously last week, as it was a great night for pizza on the patio outside, and Adele's delivered.
Besides the mushroom pizza that we enjoyed, we also had the fish tacos and they were great. They have a huge wine list and one for every budget. On this date we had a Ridge Zin, which went great with our dinner. All of this was provided by an excellent and attentive server. This is truly a perfect evening; great company, really good food, a nice breeze, and good wine. What more could you want?
Adele's patio on a summer evening is a special event, and one that I would recommend. This is probably the best locally owned restaurant in the area, at least so far, but we'll keep looking.
We've only lived here 22 years and we haven't had a chance to eat everywhere. We are still trying. -

After my last (sadly) bad review of Adele's, I'm updating it back to 5 stars! The owner sent me a very nice response to my previous review apologizing. It's so nice to know that there are people in this world who genuinly care [see my review on La Ferme *patooey* That's me spitting on the ground at La Ferme!].
So I will continue to ALWAYS recommend Adele's and we will definitely be back (maybe next weekend for our first wedding anniversary!).2 Previous Reviews: Show all »

Just had another dinner with Mark at the bar last night. I have yet to find anything that I don't love at this place. The atmosphere, the staff and the excellent quality of food and drink has been consistently top notch. We had the sword fish with their whole grain mustard sauce special, along with the spinach salad and the baby greens salad--all of them perfect. Mark matched it up with a great red wine for Kelly and I had an excellent chardonnay. There is something for everyone on this menu-fish, steaks, salads, burgers, pizza. All of it prepared just right. We found out that they are now serving breakfast starting at 7 am. I see a great saturday morning meal before shopping in my near future.

It was delicious. I had the marinated mushroom pizza. It was one of the best pizzas I have ever had in my life. The toppings were delicious, and the sauce was amazing. It worked with the toppings perfectly. I had the truffles for dessert. They were good, but not amazing.
I agree that there are WAY too many specials to be told about by the waitstaff. By the time she got to the 10th special, I couldn't remember the first five, so I just stopped listening and ordered off of the menu. -

Carson City, NV
Probably the best overall food in town, but definitely the priciest. One of my favorite things to do is go there with some friends, and order off the lounge menu. More lower priced options that are amazing. I will say though, usually the pricier you go, the better it is. My overall favorite here is the Stuffed Filet Mignon when I go that way. But love the Pasta Portofino and Charlies Chubby Chuck with a passion. Im working my way through the menu slowly, but everything I've tried has been amazing, including the sweetbreads, which i'd never tried before. Felt fat and sassy when I walked out.

Concord, CA
I dined alone and did not have a reservation but I was seated right away in the dining room without an issue. The waitress was very nice and was full of suggestions. I agree with many others that there are way too many specials of the day to even remember after the first few. I ended up ordering the first special of the day, french onion soup with gruyere and asiago cheese, and filet mignon. The very helpful waitress suggested that I order the filet with fresh herb cabernet gorgozola sauce on top. I agreed and what I received was literally drowning with sauce. I thought I was someone who enjoyed extra sauce but that was just too much. I LOVED the soup but I would never order the filet again. I think there are many attractive options on the menu and would definitely give this place another shot but would be wary of ordering anything that has a sauce with it.
The place was definitely busy so I am sure that there are good options on the menu I just didn't choose the right one. -

They have good food, and nice ambiance, but I've had bad luck the last few times I've tried to dine here, they were closed :(
CLOSED for LUNCH on SATURDAY! I swear I came on another day once, maybe a Monday and they were also closed, so gave up trying to stop. -

Food to go with the co-workers. Ok, I've lived in Carson for YEARS, too many to list and have always heard it was exclusive here. The menu didn't frighten me but it was a little froo froo, alot of mint and cilantro, there were egg dishes and alot of pork belly on everything, I have enough of my own belly so I passed right over the peanut butter and jelly covered steak and ordered the chicken cordon bleu. It was nom! Chicken cooked well, the bread was tasty, the ham wasn't just lunchmeat slices either, it was actual SLICES of ham all melty with swiss, I really enjoyed it. Thanks for feeding me!

I disagree with almost every review I have read here. I travel the US for work and this is a great restaurant. Is it an upscale environment like in a big city? Well no, you're in a historic building from the 1800s.
The wait staff is very attentive, they know the menu and the food that Chef Charlie prepares is always good with fresh ingredients. I have never been to Adele's when the owner's wife, Karen, doesn't seat or atleast greet you.
I will agree there are lots of specials to repeat and a print out is not a bad idea but, we have never had a bad meal at Adele's, the wine selection is great, the wait staff as well as the bartender remembers you and they have an outdoor patio area ... And we're not easy to please. -

I must say I am very disappointed in the yelpers in the Carson City area. I generally choose restaurants based on review on yelp. Adele's never come up on my radar because of having a three star rating.
We were in town and decided to just choose a restaurant that we happened to drive by. That is how we ended up at Adele's.
In my opinion this place is in a class of it's own in Carson City. The food is awesome. The service is phenomenal. The menu is great.
People complain about the long specials list, well sure with such a great menu then a huge list of specials it does make for a tough choice.
Personally I love listening to the description of all the specials. Hearing them described makes them very appealing.
This place is definitely worth visiting. If you can only visit one place in Carson City this should be it. -

Reno, NV
Probably the best restaurant in all of Carson City. The oysters are amazing and they have some great pizzas and salads as well. But my favorite thing to get here has to be the special dishes they do every night, especially the fish dishes. The staff is great especially since a lot of them have worked here for years if not many many years. Shows how great management and the owners are to their staff. I really dont understand why it could have such a low rating since it is one of the best in the area. Then again it is carson city and they think subway is 5 star dining.

I am so surprised by some of the "disappointed" reviews here! I've eaten at great restaurants in Europe, Asia, and lots of US cities, and this place is absolutely world class.
The ingredients are impeccably fresh, locally grown whenever possible, free range and responsibly produced. Chef Charlie Abowd combines them in unexpected, exciting, and sophisticated ways, proving he's as current on culinary trends as chefs in major metropolitan areas. Over the dozen or more visits I've had to Adele's, my meals have always been incredible... the kind you look forward to all day if you know you're eating at Adele's that night.
The service is absolutely professional, and the prices are in line with food of this quality.
If you're looking for cheap eats, clearly this is not the best choice for you. If you want a gourmet meal, this is your best bet in Carson City, and maybe in all of Northern Nevada. It's one of my most favorite restaurants in the world. -

Well up to the Silver State on some business and wanted to eat something good after being in the car so long. Found Adele's and thought we would give it a try.
Well lets just say that OK would be the word of the day. Cute place and owner meets us at the door (husband cooks, wife handels front). Order a drink and off we go. Tried to order some wine but out of srock, OK lets change our selections for dinner. Oder something else and order the wine and again off we go. Everything arrives and just OK once again. Beginning to see a trend? Best thing was the asparagus. Very good. But only problem was the server thought she would be helpful and cute and brought so hollandise sauce with them. Yuck think and barely warm.
Next was dessert and again mine was barely warm. When I mentioned it just in passing to our server both she and the lady owner were both very apoligetic. One great thing was the serve Justin Obtuse, port wine, I love it and very rarely to you see it on a wine list.
All in all nice people, cute place, ggood wine list and just OK food. -
Review from Wendy B.
Lafayette, CA
Pretty expensive, not too professional staff, good food.
We did not have reservations, so we had an option to sit in the lounge area to eat. We were fine with that, though it was an extremely cold night and there was quite a draft going into the lounge area; despite a fire place burning.
I am not sure who greeted us, maybe a Manager. He approached our table with a mouthful of food he was trying to get out of his teeth and down his throat while he was explaining something to us...neither one of us remembered what he said because we couldn't believe he greeted us with food in his mouth.
Anyway, we ordered a glass of wine...though we were 5 steps from the bar it took about 15 minutes to get our glass. We ordered a bottle of wine...and waited. We realized we were never given menus. So we stopped someone else who appeared to be working the area we were seated in and begged him to be our waiter. He agreed, brought us our menus and our wine and gave us proper attention. If it wasn't for this waiter...I would probably only say the food is decent.
I had ahi tuna spoons, they were great and prepared properly. My friend had escargot in a heavy cream sauce with apples and something else...you could barely find the escargot and I thought it ruined the dish...but my friend liked it. I had lamb which was excellently prepared and so was everything else on the dish. I don't remember what my friend had...but, she loved her dish too.
Being in the Bay Area, we can eat like this all the time at a fraction of the cost and get the same kind of service provided (good and bad). I think it ended up being like $75 per person...including wine.
There are other places like Glen Eagles in Carson City -- way better choice, excellent service, excellent food, excellent ambiance -- everything is good at Glen Eagles consistently. -

Adele's is great! I've been here for dinner twice and a couple times for drinks at the bar. The wait staff is very attentive and well trained (the specials list is a monologue). My friend and I were even remembered by our waitress even though there was two months in betw. our first and second dinner here. Both times, I've had some variation of the fish special, which were great! Also had a slice of cheesecake one time and that was delicious as well. The prices are not easy on the wallet but it's totally worth it for the food quality and service.
But, even better than the food is hanging out at the bar. The bartender (Mark?) is a wealth of information. He is entertaining and has so many stories about Carson and Reno...mob run places, old hotels, gossip regarding legislators etc. He also makes great drinks and is a nice guy. The folks sitting at the bar are usually regulars and have their fair share of stories to share too. There are only 8 seats or so at the bar so not really for a big crowd but they have couches in the waiting area that you could mingle at as well.
Definitely recommend this place. -
Review from Kara V.
OK, I went here on a date and it was supposed to be romantic, but alas it was not to be. The service was slow and reading all those specials when you have like 10 of then makes no sense at all. I couldn't remember half of them, why don't they print a menu each day. The food was not up to the standards required of a top class place, maybe I'm just used to a high class place as this Carson City is pretty podunk. Save your money til you get to Reno!

This PLACE is the WORST! If you like hair in your Food, lipstick on drinking glass, and staff make you feel like crap if you dont have reservations even though half the place is empty. I just dont get it, with the prices they are charging, it would be consider an upscale place.. but everything else doesn't match up to it. oh btw..i stil had to pay full price for my food even though there was hair in it...and the manager was not even around.

Came here for our wedding anniversary. I've worked in the food industry for 25 years so I'm flexible on what I'll let "slide" by. Food was good (not great), for gosh sakes PARE down the specials! You don't need that many. By the time our waitress got the 3rd one out we weren't listening! Wine list is great, many affordable tasty choices. The bisque was awesome, and thats where the goodness ended! If I have to hear "Adeles is a two hour dining experience" again I will scream! One table next to us got the wrong fish, another table next to us had to wait an hour from sit down to entree because "Adeles is a two hour dining experience". What would have saved our "dining experience" is a server with some humor that made fun of the fact that the kitchen was in the weeds. She tried to be professional with the "Adeles is a two hour dining experience". Guess what, if that is the slogan, put in on the logo. I'll happily go back to Dukes Steakhouse or Glen Eagles where dining is a one hour experience, that comes with a sense of humor and a smile! Oh and the tables are small, jumbled and crowded together so if you are a party of two, make a reservation for a party of four, hopefully you aren't stuck at a small table in the corner like we were. Also if anyone rorm Adeles is reading, air-conditioning is VERY important, in July, in Carson City. I should not have sweat rolling down my face while eating dinner! Good luck!

This place is one of THE most overrated places in town. OK, the food is good, but not outstanding. The servers will recite off all the specials. like about 10 of them...how the hell is anyone suppose to remember all that,,,get it printed out please! The place is very expensive, but it seems to be a place to be seen in this town...like all the old rich people and politicians.....they can have it. pass on this one.....

This establishment has been in existence for over 40 years. Located in Nevada's Capitol City it is frequented by native Nevadans and far flung tourists from around the world. Winner of numerous culinary awards for both food and wine they were, just last year, invited to participate and cook for the annual James Beard occasion in NYC.
Staff are well versed in regular and special menu items and the recognition of what spices are included in the prepared entrees as well as what wines are best paired with specific items. A must if you are in the area, but call for reservations way in advance. -

Who'd of thunk you'd find food like this in a city like Carson? I had great meal, salmon with veggies and a great salad before hand. It's not as fine dining as I've had in bigger cities. But, it was a nice meal in a restaurant with great atmosphere. I didn't have a problem with the service when I went for a business lunch meeting. And, they had a wonderful non-alcoholic beverage option. I recommend it. But, I didn't pay, so I can't tell you about the value.

Went here for lunch the other day. Made a reservation, but it didn't look like it was really needed. Too many specials, I can't remember them all as he's reciting them. I had the Basque Chicken which was OK, nice sauce. I'd like to see a salad included with the meal. My peas were cold, then I was told it was a "cold pea salad" so that's how they were supposed to be. Uh-huh. Fairly expensive but they do have a nice selection of food. Didn't hear any complaints from my fellow lunchers. Service was adequate. For Carson City, it's an good restaurant.

It's been almost a month since we went to Adele's and my opinion hasn't changed. We ate here several years ago and were very satisfied so decided to take our family while on vacation. On the positive note, the staff is very friendly and accommodating (we had 2 children with us). The drinks, appetizers and salads were great. One of us had a seafood pasta dish which she said was delicious. The kids were happy with a burger and piazza. My son had a NY steak which was okay. My husband and I ordered the chateaubriand as we've had it before at a couple upscale restaurants and loved it. These people need to improve it or take it off the menu. When I saw it was served with mashed potatoes I should have been suspicious, but the table next to us were raving how great the beef was; I should have looked at their plate. Yes the beef was very tender, but that was where it stopped. Chateaubriand is a presentation, and besides the meat there were a few (very few) tastless vegetables, and the potatoes. Not served as we had it previously served. Besidea the chateaubriand, our table's dinners arrived over approximately 15 minutes, at least. In other words, some were starting to eat while others waited. We will not go back to Adele's. The tab for 6 of us was over $300, and by no means worth the price.

Adele's is a very nice place to spend an evening. The food is excellent; the service is tops, and all this in very interesting surroundings. I'd give it 5 stars for the food and service, but it is quite expensive, which takes a bit of the shine off of an otherwise excellent restaurant

Trust the bulk of the reviews, not the few that are out of line and therefore suspect. Excessively large menu, overblown complicated food, poor service and way over priced. We had extremes with the service, a couple of excellent staff but our waitress was one of the most surly creatures I have ever met, without even comparing her to a standard you would expect in the service industry. It is easy to see from the menu that the chef thinks very highly of his or her skills. He or she should not. The food is decent but no where near great. The decent food and one very good manager(?) are the only reasons for 2 stars. On the other hand the surly creature has given my friends and I much entertainment when telling others about our experience.

Reno, NV
Adele's is, hands down, the best restaurant I've found in the greater Reno, Nevada area. The food is superb: creative and with elements from around the world. The service is excellent, although occasionally a bit slow if it's crowded. (As is often the case on weekends or holidays.) If you come here, try especially the Persian Lamb Loin (yum!) and (believe it or not) the Chicken Friend Steak, which under the chef's hand is transformed from a truck-stop artery-clogger into something indescribably delicious. The fish dishes are also excellent; try the filet of sole.
