We love spending time at the JCC. I am there every morning and the folks there are always friendly. The pool is a great place to take kids and there are lots of families around - a real community atmosphere.

I did not join this place for the amenities but the JCC sure has them!  TVs on each station and a great locker room that is clean and has lots of space. It is a nice place for my entire family.

I have been a member for over 2 years, since I have relocated to CA. It is one of the best Jewish Community centers as well as an excellent health club facility.
Friendly personnel, excellent, very experienced instructors. Convenient location near highway. I am looking forward to going there almost every day. I found my center, my community. If you are looking for a Jewish community center or health club, you will not find a better place in the area.

As a long time member, I always enjoyed this place...until now. Their policy's and the way they treat members at the pool is ridiculous. Uptight, unfriendly, and rigid.

Such a nice space! If you haven't been by the JCC in Los Gatos yet, you should check it out.

Not only is it a state-of-the-art workout facility, but they also have an event space that can hold between 200-350 guests for a sit-down dinner. It has a full stage and technology set up for just about any kind of professional presentation.

I was lucky enough to be here for the Chefs of Compassion event last Saturday night. They had registration and a silent auction set up in the lobby, which worked out just fine since JCC patrons were able to come and go without disrupting the event guests. There was enough room for a few wineries to set up shop in the hallway next to the ballroom as well, which was great for those of us who like to have a glass of vino on the weekend.

Not sure if you have to be a member of the JCC to rent the space, but if you have to host a larger party (one where you couldn't fit everyone inside your house or apartment), definitely consider them!

I am so glad that I found JCC. It's only 2 blocks away from my house therefore it's so convenience for me.The  other gym I have frequented when I am in Walnut Creek was the Club Sport.
Have been a member of  JCC for almost 3 months and so far I am very satisfied with the service and equipment.
I like JCC because I don't have to wait too long for the pool on the sunny beautiful days.
The gym is always super clean and I love that they provide clean towels. I love JCC

I LOVE their CAFE!!!! Tricia was our barista and I had the Mocha Cap and it was DELICIOUS!! I've had this type of drink at Starbucks and other coffee shops, but they never taste as good as this cafe! Who would've known a great cafe was hidden inside a Jewish Community Center!!

I'm definitely coming back for more!!

Oh and the facility is great! There's a gym, swimming pool, soccer field, and great for parties!

We've been a member for the gym for almost a year now.  Prior to that, we worked out at Almaden Valley Health Club (the one right off Hwy 87) and Club One at Santana Row.  A quick rundown on our experiences on this center as a workout place:

    1. price is attractive if you can find the right time to join when they reduce the initiation fee.

    2. decent workout facility, on par with AVAC. Bigger than the Club One.  But JCC's Women's locker room is not quite and well equipped as the ones at the other places.  Gym wipes are placed throughout areas.

    3. Hours/schedule: slightly shorter on weekends than AVAC.  I can't remember Club One's hours since it was a while back when I used that place.  And staff here really start shooing people off 15 minutes before closing time.  I never experienced this at the other two gyms.

To add to that, the gym is closed on both Jewish and Christian holidays (such as Xmas).  So less days to work out than the other places.  You can get a pass to use some other gym.  But if you sign up here because it's close by, it's a inconvenience.  It must be nice to work here - since I imagine staff get double time off!

    4. The crowd here is much more mature than those at the other two.  Of course, you get rowdy kids and teenagers when school is out.

    5. Classes/activity : Club One used to have very late classes (like starting at 8:30 pm).  here the last class ends around 8:30 pm.  Class offering and variety are between AVAC and Club One (a much smaller facility).

There seems to be more community activities here than the other two places.  A lot of them center around Jewish culture and religion.  I haven't participated any.

    6.  This is my personal peeve:  the towels here are really yucky - even shower towels are terrible.  Club One has the best towels of the three.  AVAC's hand towel is about the same as here but at least the big towels for shower are better.

Bottom line - an ok place to get your workout done.

The JCC has been a big part of our life since we started taking our kids to the excellent preschool there. All the staff treats us like family, my kids love the summer camp and the great group of young people that run it.

The playgrounds could possibly be the best in the bay area.

We use the pool and the gym often and have never had anything to complain about. They are immaculate and well staffed.

We also attend a few of the events and fundraisers, and they are great.

My wife and I joined the JCC about 4 1/2 years ago ( it opened 5 or 5 1/2 years ago ) because we wanted a gym with new equipment, lots of events ( in case we got ambitious ), convenient location, reasonable fees and a Jewish "atmosphere".  It had those things then...and still does...but the gym and all the other programs attract such a mix of people you'd almost think it was a mini United Nations.

We've really only taken advantage of the gym at the JCC, so my comments are a bit limited.  A review of their website illustrates the full range of programs and services provided under 1 roof ( a big roof at that ).

The building is just a few blocks from the Lark Avenue exit of Highway 17, so access to and from the campus ( which includes several social service agencies ) is very easy.  The parking lot is large..about 2 blocks long and 1/2 block wide..but it does occasionally get full at certain times during weekdays.  Street parking on Oka Road helps to alleviate the crowded periods.

There's always a guard by the front door to check membership cards, but he or she knows all the regulars and seems nice to the newcomers.  Your ID is verified at the front desk just inside the door by the guard.  That normally takes 5 seconds.  The people there can get very busy with many activities, including answering the phone, resolving questions from parents and kids and, of course, checking people in...but they're usually friendly, courteous and helpful.

The gym itself has an excellent variety of equipment in 2 large rooms for everyone from novice to expert.  From my experience at other places, including Courtside, 24 hour-types and several cruise ships ( yes...the newer ones have unbelievable facilities ), the hardware at the JCC is in the mid-upper range of quality.  It's spaced apart a bit more widely than a run-of-the-mill gym, but perhaps not as much as those charging significantly more.  If you're unsure about something, there are typically 2 or 3 personal trainers available during the day and 1 or 2 in the evening.  They all seem quite willing to answer questions when not with a client.

One of the more interesting aspects of the gym at the JCC ( and I think for the better ) is not just the wide spectrum of nationalities present, but the range of physical fitness.  At some places, unless you're buffed and polished like a bronzed god or goddess, you may feel like staying in the locker room...or even your car.  There's no reason to be shy here. The young and infallible seem to coexist quite nicely with the more mature and not-in-the-best-shape.  Perhaps the average age is somewhat higher here than at other places or maybe it's the effect of a higher power in some of the art.  In any event I haven't witnessed too many beauty contests, though some of the younger guys do try to impress one another ( which has probably occurred since the dawn of time ).

There are a continual stream of ongoing programs and one time events scheduled at the JCC...many in conjunction with the gym...and for a range of ages from under 10 to elder statesman/woman.  A large room with 6 basketball courts ( often used for soccer practice ) is just across the hall from the exercise equipment.  A cafe about 20 feet inside the front door and is open from 7 AM to 5 PM.  Vending machines were just installed outside the exit to the field behind the building which is used for soccer and baseball.  A pool and related facilities are located to the right ( north ) of that field.

I'd give the gym facility at the JCC 5 stars, but 1 star needs to be subtracted for 2 reasons.  First, and most important, the locker rooms have outgrown the size of the original target membership.  As a result, it gets crowded and filled with dirty towels and other garments (?) quite easily.  Somehow, those rooms need to be expanded.

The other negative which comes to mind is the behavior of some of the teenagers and younger kids.  Staff and personal trainers do try to keep a lid on things, mainly in the exercise areas, but the locker and bathroom can occasionally border on Animal House.  Maybe parents need to teach a few more lessons to their kids because no adult gym can function as intended while offering a babysitting service.

Those few items aside, the gym at the JCC is a great facility...no matter your religion ( although the atmosphere, particularly in other parts of the building, can give Jewish people a very nice feeling ).

My son is attending summer camp at the APJCC. The camps are offered in four sessions (each session is two weeks) plus a pre- and post-camp (one-week session each).  He is now finishing his seventh week and he loves it.

The kids are grouped by age or the grade they're entering in the fall.  They receive swim lessons twice a week and also have free swim twice a week.

Each session has a themes (for example pirate week or western week) and the kids participate in cooking, music, science/nature and art activities related to the weekly theme.

The camp counselors are friendly and competent, the facility is safe, and the program is well organized.

The APJCC also has specialty camps including dance, tennis, basketball, soccer and culinary.

We'll definitely be back next summer!

No, I am not Jewish. Yes, my mom is often asked if she is Jewish. Yes, my mom's best friend is Jewish. Yes, I enjoy kugel and other good Jewish treats. Yes, I am without ethnic background - so I fgured.....that makes me kind of Jewish right??? So off I trecked to this great Jewish Community Center of  Los Gatos I had heard so much about ....

Actually, you don't have to be Jewish, religous or otherwise to belong here. They have open arms to anyone who wants to join the gym, enroll in school or take some cool classes with the old folks.

I was in search of a new gym (see prior gym review) that was near work so I could get over there at lunch or on the way home. They give my work a coporate discount so that was motivation in itself. I stopped by one afternoon and was given the tour by Mark....he was super cool and very nice. And a few days later I was hooked up, with the gym, not Mark.

So I am happy to report that I *heart* this place. I have not had a chance to take a class yet but I have only heard good things. I dig the new equipment and the set up of the facility. The locker rooms are super clean (bonus)and I am a big fan of the steam room and dry sauna. The gym itself has great specialty stuff - massages, physical therapy, pool, gym, pilates the list goes on and on. It is a little pricey but I am a believer in "you get what you pay for."

Yeah new gym.....boo me for getting out of shape and not getting here sooner

Me, "hey guys, I just joined a gym!"
    Friends, "oh cool, which one?"
    Me, "The Jewish Community Center."
Friends, "oh, umm, cool, uhhhh, you're not Jewish."
But it doesn't matter, people of all faiths and even the faithless join the JCC. In fact, I don't think I've met one Jewish person while I've been working out there, hmmm.
This place is great, it has everything you can ask for in a gym: swimming, tennis, basketball, volleyball, weights, bunch of machines, and all the classes you can take. I've never had to wait to use a machine. Everyone I've met there has been very nice.
The price is a little steep ($90/month), but if you are using everything they offer, it is totally worth it.

Not only did JCC charge my credit card for an initiation fee and monthly gym membership that I did not sign up for (notice I never signed anything or receive any card or pass), the person who took my information never returned my email, refunded the charge, and then left his job.

His manager called me about the situation, and after forwarding an email to her, she did not call me back or contact me as she said she would. Her exact words were, "I'll be in touch." That was one week ago.

Notice, folks, that I was charged again on 7/2 for $144. Notice that nothing has been refunded to this account.

Seriously, now. Do you think I could give a positive review for all this?

I have been to the fitness center only once for a trial workout.  I am extremely impressed.  The fitness center is managed by Club One, and much of the equipment and supplies are the same as at Club One.

As someone else mentioned, the locker rooms have steam rooms and saunas, which are hardly used.  The locker room is clean, and staff is always on hand to keep it that way.  Not only is there an ample supply of towels, but the locker room also has lotion, mouthwash, shampoo, conditioner (with tea tree oil), body wash, shave cream, hairspray, and deodorant, as well as Q-tips and cotton balls.

All the cardio equipment has built-in flat panel TV screens with DirecTV access.

All the equipment is not only new (the center is a little over a year old), but very clean.  Hand towels and sanitizing wipes are available in all the fitness rooms.

I was there in the daytime, and it wasn't crowded.  I ran into an acquaintance there who told me the center was not crowded even during the evenings.

Fitness center members also get discounts on the JCC's lectures and programs.  Center members also get discounts on aquatics lessons, and fitness classes.

About the only negative I can think of is cost.  It doesn't cost a bomb like some of the high end clubs such as the Decathalon and Courtside Club, but it is more than $80 a month in addition to registration fees of around $200.

The gym that no one ever heard of.....

This gym is light years...or even galaxies ahead of the competition. I had been a member of Bally's and 24 Hour Fitness for years in other states which had nothing like this center. You pay by the month - no contracts! Yeah! The initial fee was $25 when I joined and the monthly fee $90.

There are dozens of free classes, state of the art equipment including televisions on the bikes/treadmills, huge pool heated to 82 degrees (the one at home is a chilly 70 if I am lucky) and not to mention diet coach - Jen and PT - Stephanie who are great, tennis, vollyball and a physical therapy center for now. I haven't tried the sauna or steam room yet. You can schedule massages too. Free towels for showers are a plus.

I needed a place that was close to my home so there is no excuse to not go every week day. The price is higher than the commercial gyms but the great service, facility, free classes, equipment and staff make up for that. The facility is spacious, clean and virtually free of typical gym rats that go to other centers.

There are summer camps for kids that are well attended until late Aug so you can work out around their time in the pool.

There are also classes on art, travel, Jewish faith and other topics which are interesting - you don't have to be of their faith to attend.

I've been a member of this club for several years, and really enjoy it. There are enough work-out machines that what I want is always available. It's always a very welcoming and friendly environment, from both the staff and the other members. The group fitness classes are absolutely wonderful. It took me a long time to get up the courage to go, but I'm so glad I did and now I can't wait to go to more of them. The pool is always a comfortable temperature.

There are only a few things that keep me from giving the JCC a 5 star review:

    - During the Summer the fitness center was so hot I got lightheaded after a few minutes of working out, so I basically only came to use the pool. I get that people want to keep the AC on low to be more green or save money or whatever, but it sort of defeats the point if people can't use the room for its intended purpose. Other people seemed to be getting on fine, though, so I figured it was a particular sensitivity on my part. (To be fair, it was a good excuse not to exercise, haha, but it was definitely a problem for me).

    - The pool has some strange rules. I babysit a girl with special needs whose family also belongs to the JCC, so it was a great activity for us when we could go. Unfortunately, they wouldn't allow her to wear floaties in the pool because they are not coast-guard approved. When I explained to them that she could swim without them and it was more for her emotional comfort that she has them, it did not make a difference. This just seemed silly to me.

    - The kids' area of the pool is a NIGHTMARE during the summer. It's a small area to begin with, but still big enough to have fun in. However, first they cordon off a third of it for lessons almost constantly, which I get, but is annoying. When the summer camps come and they section off another third for those kids, it's pretty much pointless for anything other than cooling down. There are so many people in there you can't do any sort of swimming or playing.

All things considered, this is the best possible value for a fitness center 3/4ths of the year, and I spend a decent chunk of the summer out of town, so it works well for me!

The JCC has some awesome facilities.  All of the tennis courts, pool, gyms, and locker rooms are very modern and up to date.  Everything is in pristine shape with lots of amenities.

Dom, who works the front desk, is always really friendly and welcoming whenever I go there.

The gym is full of TVs (which is nice because I can barely stand to work out for fear of shear boredom...), and the personal trainers who work there are excellent.  Jorge Contreras is by far my favourite, and seemingly the most knowledgeable.  If I could rate Jorge by himself, I would give him 5 stars (I wonder if I can...?).

My daughter is attending their tennis camp this summer.  By FAR this is the best summer she has had at a camp!  We tried Stanford camp last year...she did not care for it, and didn't make many friends.  Here...by the end of the first week, even the camp director knew here name.

We received a camp calendar of all of their activities (not just tennis, but playground time, and swimming!), and they also have http://Kidchow.com bring in lunch (woo hoo I don't have to make lunches this summer!).

We are not Jewish, but feel extremely welcomed and I know that my daughter is cared for while she is there.

I like that you have to show ID every time you want to go in to the center.  It makes me feel like she is safe.

This club is classy, but I have not met a snob yet!  The members at this club are so friendly!

The facilities are brand new.   Each treadmill has its own television, so you can watch what you want to watch.  However, most of the time, I spend my time out on the tennis courts or upstairs in the group exercise room.  I like the fact that the group exercise rooms are located upstairs and have no windows. It makes it a  very non-threatening environment.  No one can watch me as I attempt to dance!  ;)

This is a great, upscale fitness center at an affordable price!

There are two cardio rooms, free weights, weight machines, all sorts of balls and resistance bands, and anything else you could possibly need for a good work out! The locker rooms are nice too, and have a great sauna which no one ever seems to use!

There is a great pool, a huge indoor basketball court, outdoor tennis courts, an outdoor field, and a cafe that has kosher food.

The JCC also has your typical spinning and aerobics/group exercise classes, but they are always so empty -- the last spinning class I went to only had about 5 people!

Everything is kept very very clean, and you always see staff walking around with a towel and spray bottle cleaning off the equipement.
    Also, fresh towels are provided!

This is a great fitness center, and you see all sorts of people working out here. Not intimidating at all. It is quiet, clean, and quite classy!

Oh! An extra plus: they have a "young member" discount -- if you are under 23 you get a very nice discounted membership rate.

I was very impressed with the athletic facility and trainers on hand.  I was on the fence with joining this place or 24hr...but after visiting the JCC JabberMob, it's clear...I'm joining  the JCC.  I don't think i could match the value for the price at any other health club.

New member for 6 months....very happy with this great place...regular people having fun and working out!   Anyone is welcome.

Joined in August 10' and have tried out the pool, personal training, pilates, and massage.  Have enjoyed all of it.  Membership, front desk and security always find helpful and happy.  Was a member of Courtside in Los Gatos for 6+ years - liked the facility but not the membership population as much - can I say "snooty"?....lol.....I find that everyone at the JCC is much more down to earth and no dressing to impress your fellow workout friends.

Giving 5 stars overall as I think they really work hard and do a good job for the membership.  Alot of different events happening (Jewish and non-Jewish) which keeps things fresh and interesting.  Only con I could think of is that the locker rooms are outgrown and no whirlpool spa is available for those who may wish to soak after a workout....however everything else is top notch and clean - lots of classrooms and areas also for special events or rental..

The JCC gym used to be professionally managed by Club One which was great. Since JCC took over management, they are cutting costs and the equipment isn't well maintained. Most of the treadmills are broken/parts on order for fix for over a month. Or when it does get fixed, it breaks again.

The classes are great, but the equipment is old and in need of care. Dumbbells are cracking. Mats are ripped. Since, the jcc took over management they replaced the large towels w/ small hand towels - probably to save money but the sign says to save water.

I still like the JCC for the group classes, but I don't think its as well run as it used to be.

The best gym in the area, hands dow.

Affordable rates, spacious work-out rooms with new equipment, a beautiful outdoor pool, and lots of class offerings.  And the children's activity offerings are amazing.  From a clean, well-run daycare to basketball, soccer and swimming activities, the children have so much to choose from!  What a wonderful facility!

Is there a star on Yelp that is less than one? Send your kids to another Summer Camp. The people who work here are rude and have poor judgment. I personally witnessed a supervisor named, James or Justin I think, be excessively harsh to one of my favorite Camp Directors. His judgment was poor, his arrogance was unwarranted, and he was less than professional in his demeanor. I will never take my child here.

There is room for improvement with the front desk staff and aquatics personnel (some are great).  But all in all this is a great place.

I have had nothing but good experiences with the APJCC.  The security guards are always so kind and welcoming! As you walk in the door the front desk staff greets you with a warm smile and many of them remember me and ask about my life.  They give great one on one attention even though there are so many members!  They are also very knowledgeable about programs and the facility.  All the group fitness classes I have take have been wonderful and never too crowded.  At previous gyms I have had to wait for equipment during peak hours, but I can always find a spot on my machine of choice.  The pool is crowded at certain times in the summer (swim lessons, camp, etc) but that is really only two hours or so and even then there are always lanes open to swim.  Most of the time the pool is not busy...it's very nice!

The jcc has exceeded every expectation I had for a fitness club.

Member pricing is a bit steep here, but it is definitely well worth it. Everyone here, from staff to patrons of all ages and ethnic backgrounds, is incredibly amicable. Even if you do not know your way around, it is easy to feel comfortable here...heck, the nude wrinkly bodies in the sauna/locker room don't even bother me! The two main rooms of the gym are occupied with new stations of all different types. What I especially love are the personal televisions attached to all of the cardio stations--you just plug in your own headphones and you can watch cable television while working out! How freakin' awesome is that?? I have yet to try the cafe, but can't wait!
Gym amenities include: fresh towels, hand sanitizer, clean wipes, shampoo & conditioner in the shower, and lotion. You can also use a locker with a returnable deposit of twenty-five cents.
There are plenty of other resources for members, ranging from massages to classes which are held upstairs. In terms of facilities, the indoor basketball courts are nice but the outdoor pool is kind of small and limited, and there is no outdoor track.

Chris Toscano rocks as a Personal Trainer at JCC!  He is the first PT that has challenged me to go beyond my comfort level.   He challenges me each and every workout.   He creates work outs that are innovative and fun. He is methodical in his approach.   I highly recommend him.

JCC is the best fitness centers we have ever used. It is pristine, well maintained, and friendly. The classes I attended were all well taught, and by competent and friendly instructors. The staff was always courteous and pleasant. No need to shop around, this is the one.

I've been working out over 20+ years and this is by far the best fitness center I've been a member of.  I feel really comfortable here and there is a real sense of community. Both staff and members are friendly, they offer a complete schedule of exercise classes and trained instructors. The equipment is new and kept in good working order, they offer towels in all the workout and group exercise rooms which alot of gyms dont offer. In addition to group exercise classes they also offer "community interest" classes on a regular basis which are generally free to members. They have tennis courts and a beautiful outdoor pool neither of which I've used yet. They have a great cafe and the food is really delicious.....you can even pickup a full dinner to go...how convenient is that! Unfortunately the cafe closes early...around 5 I believe.
Cant say enough good things about this place and yes the member pricing is high but you get what you pay for and its nice to have a fitness center that is clean and well-maintained and heavy metal or rap music isnt blaring at high decibels.
