Review from andrew w.
Albany, NY
I am not connected in any way to this business other than as a customer, I just wanted to say that as this is my first Yelp review.
Ada's now has 2 locations, one at 328 Delaware Ave in Albany and one at 2123 Central Avenue, Schenectady NY. I patronize both stores because the Central Ave location is closer to where I work.
It is difficult to describe a Botanica in words if you have never been in one. However, I have been in a few and Ada's is the best. Not only is the selection of colognes; baths washes; floor washes; amulets; and diversity of religious material (candles, books, statues, etc.) the best around, this shop is truly diverse. You are likely to find what you need regardless of your religion.
The staff, especially Ronnie, Michael, and Ada are so helpful and caring. They truly care about their customers and only want the best for you. They also help advise on how to get the results you are looking for - but they are realistic in how to approach these matters and are not judgmental in how they help you.
The stores are a delight of the senses - smells and sights especially. I could really spend hours looking at items. I have bought many things from the shop, including amulets; colognes; essential oils; roots; books; and have spent many hours talking with the employees. Trust me, their knowledge is firsthand and they want nothing more than to meet your needs in the best way possible. I truly hope this was helpful - if I could improve this description/review in any way please let me know. -

Ada's spirit works is a very interesting store. It used to be located on lark st near bombers and the flower market but i never went in then. they are now located on delaware near the spectrum. robert had gone in and told me that it was a really cool little store so i thought i would check it out. we always walk past the windows on the way to cordona's and wonder what could be inside based on the really cool and funky displays. - the displays are very colorful and interesting with glass jars and bowls filled with waters and oils, draped fabrics and bead, flowers, figurines etc.
i went in the other day to buy brittany a house warming gift and as i entered i was overwhelmed. the smells of incense were quite intense, almost overpowering and i wondered how they could handle that all day. i got used to it very quickly however and was filled with a pleasant feeling. there were a Lot of people at the counter paying for their purchases and chatting, everyone seemed very friendly.
i wandered about checking out the merchandise: there were dusty figurines all over the store on top of the shelves holding the candles (with various themes - happiness, wealth, love etc.), the incense and the oils. none of the figurines struck me as 'brit' so i went on to the candles. i figured that a little happiness and love wouldn't hurt her so i asked one of the smiling women at the counter what they would recommend. i ended up getting 2 candles for happiness and love and some oils to promote good feelings and friendship to pour around them. and who knows? i mean you can't go wrong trying to encourage these types of things, right?
oh, and the candles and oils only came to around $16, so much less than if i went to yankee candle in the mall or some other such snooty store. and i got a gift with character. very cool indeed.
