9 reviews for Adam's Rib Co.
Best BBQ in town if you like Kansas City/Memphis style. The sauce is sweet and spicy---and no mustard (thank God). Make sure you get the banana pudding for dessert.
This place is great for take-out, not so great if you like ambiance in your dining.
If you are going out to eat and are looking for a restaurant with a nice ambiance this is not it, but if you are looking for some good BBQ, Adam's is the place. They only have a few tables and as far as I can tell most people get their orders to go.
The ribs are big and meaty with just the right smoky flavor and I have also enjoyed their pulled pork both as a meal and on a sandwich of garlic toast. Their collard greens and beans are also pretty good. I really enjoy their wide variety of sauces so there is something for everyone. I usually get the rib dinner to go and there is enough food for two meals which makes it a bargain.
GREAT pulled pork! A variety of BBQ sauces to choose from. There is also a variety of vinegars and mustards for the fries or whatever else you cover in sauce. My mouth is watering just thinking about it.
Great breakfasts too! Service is fast and friendly. Well done, Adam and company!
My friend suggested BBQ, and it has been awhile since I've gone hog-wild (see what I did there) on some good BBQ. I looked up some places and saw the reviews for Adams Rib and decided to take the trip.
The atmosphere is pretty much a dive. Which is fine, I don't require fancy furnishing. The faded gator posters and trophies just reminded me, once again, that I do live in Gainesville.
I got the brisket sandwich with high hopes. Heres where I digress.
BBQ goes hand in hand with "obscene amount of food" for me. The point of BBQ is to totally focus on the meat. The meat is given time and seasoning and attention and then the huge slab of meat is put on the table. Feeding frenzy ensues and you waddle out wondering how there was still more meat left. Thats the point of BBQ as I've come to understand it. Half the point is the absolutely ridiculous portions.
Back to the brisket. I got two slices of garlic toast (which was actually quite good) with some beef chunks and a swipe of sauce. The small scoop of meat was pretty much hidden under the toast. The meat was also pretty tough. The sauce was way to sugary. I honestly thought of that Loyd's BBQ they sell in tubs at publix in the fridge section. Thats how sweet and meh it was. I used the Mustard BBQ sauce on every bite to cut the sweetness of the plain sauce.
Side dishes were decent. The fries were good but I got a small handful, maybe 15. Remember that gorging part I mentioned? The potato salad was alright but also sweet and not very chunky, more of a whipped potato salad. My friend got the mac and cheese and only had a bite because of the indifference he felt towards it.
I paid my 8 dollars for the sandwich feeling a little cheated that I was still hungry and not very satisfied. I mean, fries are cheap. Really cheap. You could at least load up the plate so I have something to fill me up when you give me such meager portions. Somebody let me know when we have a real BBQ place in Gainesville.
BBQ here is pretty mediocre. The service is usually attentive though. They have coupons that come in all the monthly and quarterly magazines for buy 1 get 1 free bbq pork sandwiches and money off of big take out orders and stuff.
The food isn't bad or anything it's just not that good. I'd much rather go to Chunky Ts bbq for anything i needed. However, it's hard to turn down a coupon for buy 1 get 1 bbq pork sandwich netting you two for only $4.50
Okay, I like to think I'm pretty experienced with BBQ. I'm familiar with the whole mustard base vs. molasses debate. I myself prefer the molasses based, but regardless...
I've always liked Adam's. It's not the best BBQ in town, my choice for that is David's, but Adam's is tons better than Sonny's. However, Adam's is a lot closer to where I work so I end up there when I have a hankering for BBQ. It's never been bad for me. I usually get the rib dinner which is a ton of food for like 10 bucks. The meat is delicious and cooked perfectly.
I'm not sure who this "homosexual" is (gasp! not a "gay" server) but ya' know, come on, really? The staff has always been clean, friendly and attentive whenever I have gone.
Also, this place is locally owned by Adam and his wife. Really good Christians. I'm not, but they are, lol.
Best BBQ in Gainesville. Their collard greens and corn nuggets are to die for. The smoked turkey salad is awesome, too! We go here once a month for the food, but the employees are great as well. Soon, we will try breakfast here. They deliver through http://GatorFood.com.
I'm not usually a big fan of BBQ, but Adam's Rib (while also sporting a clever name for themselves) was delicious! When picking up my dry-cleaning at Rip's, the owner could not say enough good things about this place. He was so adamant, I decided to see for myself. The folks that work here did everything possible to make us comfortable - they were so nice, I'd come back just for them. I think this place used to be a Dunkin' Donuts. The atmosphere isn't so great, but they do a good take-out business, and besides - you are there for the food! Tender, fall-from-the-bone chicken, authentic collard greens, yummy green beans and mac 'n cheese so cheesy, it'll string from your bowl to your fork. Original blends of BBQ and hot sauces on the counter. Treat yourself to their homemade banana pudding for a happy ending, BBQ-style. I can't wait to try their breakfast specials.
Among the BBQ places that are open 6-7 days of the week in North Central Florida, this may be the very best. Stepping out of your car, you will immediately smell the smoke that lets you know you made a good choice. Their menu is pretty extensive and they serve breakfast lunch and dinner.
The service is really nice and the people make coming back worth it.
The portion sizes are really big for the price, you can easily make two meals out of your order. (coincidentally the chicken reheats really well!)
One great thing about Adam's Rib Company is that they do the meat up real basic. They smoke it real well, and put basic BBQ seasonings on it, but otherwise leave it unfussed with. The sauce is up to you. I went for the tomato-based basic sauce, but they also offer spicy sauces, mustard sauces, and carolina vinegar sauce. So whatever BBQ school you're a fan of, you'll find something to enjoy at Adam's.
Overall, a must-visit for any Gainesville resident.
