This rating is for Randy's Star Hollow Farm booth. It's a bit pricey, but everything is clearly labeled and incredibly fresh. Randy himself is usually around and will tell you how the various crops are faring, and how the season is progressing. It's fun to talk to him. The local staff are very friendly, albeit occasionally hungover :-)
The other "farm" sells a ton of mystery produce. You can't tell if you are buying Safeway's rejects or their own local produce. They get one star, but I don't want to taint Star Hollow. Overall the market is only 2 farm stands. Not a huge selection, but I get 100% of my fresh produce from here from like late May through most of October. -

It was excellent to find a farmer's market, as they represent everything that is good and proper about man: working one's own property to its fullest potential then using the fruits of one's labor (pun intended) to profit for the self. While this isn't the best market I've been to, I would choose it over any grocery store. The wares are of high quality and well worth purchasing.

I had a half hour to go shooting photos around Adams Morgan during my photography workshop on Saturday morning. I found myself at the farmer's market for 10 of the 30 minutes.
As I passed through, one of the vendors gave me a free sugar plum that was "fresh picked by fairies that morning". It was magically delicious.Listed in: To market, to market...

Excuse me as I double over in laughter at the current Yelp rating for this "farmer's market." Even the name is generous considering there are mainly two stands.
This is not an affront to the farmers that come to Adams Morgan. In fact, their mission is quite honorable: to bring local foods to people that may only have access to Safeway's well-traveled produce. Furthermore, everyone I spoke with was helpful and friendly.
But the food quality is only good-fair, the prices are not very low for a farmer's market, and the selection is small. I bought 3 potatoes and a head of broccoli yesterday for almost $7!! I'm a regular farmers market goer, albeit in California, and $7 seems a high price for what I got.
I wouldn't go around the block to avoid this market, but I would save my purchases for the Sunday Dupont Circle Market. The selection is much better and the competition of having more than 2 stands makes produce prices lower. -

I belong to the Star Hollow CSA that sets up shop every Saturday morning at the Adams Morgan market so I am here many weekends out of the year. It is only a few vendors -- 2-3 veggie vendors and 1-2 flower vendors and a little hodgepodge of other people selling miscellaneous things. The Star Hollow stand is great -- it has a pretty wide selection of whatever's been harvested that week, the farm's own eggs, as well as fruit and other produce and products Farmer Randy brings from other growers and producers he is in a cooperative with and Firehook pastries and bread. The other stand that I remember -- Licking Creek, I think, is very similar in terms of pickin's and pricing. I am obviously more familiar with Star Hollow. If you need meat or really unusual items, you won't find them at the Adams Morgan market, but you can get almost anything else, provided it's in season.

I hit this market every Saturday if I'm in town. Get there early because all the Latina ladies also like this market and the farmer's (nicely enough) do spend time with them to make sure they get 100% of the value of their WIC coupons. I think one farm is Licking Creek and they usually have their stuff out in bulk wood crates. The other is Star Hollow and they're a bit pricier for all the pretty display and packaging they do. Licking Creek also sells bagels which are very decent. Star Hollow offers breads and croissants from Firehook, I believe.

The Adams Morgan Farmers Market is the best way to start one's Saturday - waking early to buy fresh apples, kale, tomatoes and carrots always gets my weekends off to a good start. If the market was either open year round or had more farmers, I'd give it a whole 5 stars but at a solid 4, the market's low prices (especially compared to the Dupont Farmers Market!) and the friendliness of the farmers almost makes me think I'm wandering through the Farmers Market back in my hometown of Santa Cruz.

If you want local, inexpensive produce from friendly and helpful farmers, this is your place.
If you want to pay more for music, people-watching and niche dairy, head to Dupont or Mt. Pleasant.
I stumbled across the Adams Morgan Farmers Market the weekend before Thanksgiving last year. While it is definitely small - two booths - they've got all the veggies you'd expect at any other market, far more than enough for our vegetarian thanksgiving feast.
The farmers made the morning. As I went to pick up some basil from the Licking Creek Bend booth, farmer Mike Tabor jumped in to pick out the biggest bunch ($2!) then led me around the place talking favorite veggies, market history (30 years in the making), prospects, changes - the works.
Yes this market is cheaper than the others, but the produce is just as good. Please don't confuse low cost produce with low quality produce. The last thing we want is for farmers to increase prices just to match the price portfolio of niche organic. Check it out for yourself! -

This farmers market gets two stars because it's near my house, the vendors are nice, and they carry quality products. However, selection is quite limited, only two vendors with any produce to speak of, and even they don't always have everything you might want. If you live in the area and want to pick up some eggs from a local farmer, this is a convenient spot. But not worth a special trip and don't expect them to carry everything you are looking for.
