As I was browsing the World Wide Web on my Internet Machine, I saw that Adam's Mill Bar & Grill has CLOSED. What a gip. Loved this place. Me and my friends would often stop by after taking the Dog's to Walter Pierce Park for some socialization. I can't speak for the food, but the Beer was always ICE COLD! The Staff were friendly, helpful, very welcoming. They had a huge covered patio where Dog's were allowed to mingle. I'll miss this place.

I'll miss you Adams Mill. You are one of the only bars large enough to even attempt to handle the Friday/Saturday Adams Morgan masses. I much prefer your laid back weekdays, where I can be rewarded with my hike to Adams Morgan with some good drink specials at the huge patio. Can we say pitchers?
I've been here several times for happy hour, or if a friend has reserved floor for a birthday. Good times. Yes, it's like a discombobulated frat house, but isn't a multistory bar so much more fun? On the weekdays it's actually a decent bar.
Anyway, today's their last day and they are being replaced with a Panera Bread. Le sad. -

CLOSED! THANK. GOD. What a disgusting bar of sloppy, collar-popped dbags. You will not be missed!

My girlfriend was calling the shots for the evening, so after our dinner at Malaysia Kopitiam, she made the call for drinks at Adam's Mill Bar & Grill. This being my first time at AMB&G and only my second time in Adams Morgan, who was I to say "no"? As it turned out, it was an inspired call, aided by the fact that she had a Groupon that needed to be expended which made the drinks a real deal!
AMB&G is a fairly large bar with an upstairs bar and outside seating for warm weather or those hardcore smokers who'll brave the bitterest cold to get their tar and nicotine on! It's geared for watching sports, however, given the day and time (Fri night around 8:30pm) the downstairs bar was largely empty. Our bartender (I really should've gotten his name) was friendly and professional. The beer selections on tap were better than average. Best of all, they serve beer by the pitcher! Is it just me or does it seem like beer served by the pitcher is a rarity in District and NoVA bars? Liquor selections, specifically the tequila and vodka, were fairly extensive. However, scotch drinkers should look elsewhere.
For the service and beer by the pitcher alone, AMB&G merits 4 stars from me! I'll be back. -

"They've fixed this place up," R said as we took a seat at the bar. "It used to be a real shithole."
I glanced around. Not a shithole, but certainly not the swank rides I usually go for. But I'm an openminded gal and they had $10 pitchers of Peroni, so I felt a-okay.
The bartenders were nice, the beer selection isn't bad, and they do make a pretty good burger (the only thing about that is each topping [ie, cheese, onions, mushrooms] are a dollar more, each, which I felt a little excessive). The beef was done to a nice medium texture, and the sauteed onions and mushrooms were delicious.
Ambiance-wise, it was pretty laid back and unpretentious, with one TV over the bar where we were sitting. As we were leaving, a gang of grownup kickball players was filing in, giving me a better idea of the typical crowd.
So, overall, I didn't mind Adam's Mill. The only thing that was shithole about it were the bathrooms. I've seen nicer loos in crack houses. -

'The Mill' as it's known to us is the most underrated bar in the 18th and Columbia area - hence the the 5 star rating. This place should have a sign hanging outside that says '$10 dollar pitchers all the time.' It's probably the best kept secret in the area, and I kind of like it that way, but they're good people.
On Sunday, this place will have your game playing and they also have 35 cent wings, which are actually halfway decent. And pitchers are still $10... how bout that.
And for all you smokers and enjoyers of the outdoors, there is a covered patio here. -

So this is my second time here: First time was with a large group, this time it was with my BF and another friend.
I have to say - this place reminds me of a good neighborhood bar. The wait staff are friendly and though they may not have a huge selection of beers, they have a decently selection (though this time I was sticking to the Captain and Ginger ale)
The next time I go exploring in Adams Morgan - I will definitely go back here. -

Adams Mill Bar, is by far the worst place I have been to in DC. It is the closets bar to my apartment so I natural checked it out a few times. In an area packed full of bars, I was rather unimpressed. I sat outside the first couple times I was there. The first time, the server came to our table while smoking. If he needs to take a smoke break, fine take a seat or go behind the bar. The food is very average and everything is very mediocre, which is disappointed especially with a long wait and when it is surrounded by places that really care about their food.
The second time I went to Adams Mill was on a sunny Sunday afternoon. I sat down at a table in their large outdoor patio. I waited for about 10 minutes and no one came by with menus. So I walked inside to ask to have a server come out to our table. In a rather rude voice a woman behind the bar told me they didn't have someone waiting on the tables outside. I found this rather odd, since the only thing the place has going for it is the outdoor patio. The service was a little slow, but not as bad as the time before. My friend paid with a gift certificate and tried to cover the rest with his credit card. The bar tender refused to take the credit card, citing a $10 minimum charge, even though our tab was much higher. Part of the credit card contract that all merchants sign states that they will not require minimum purchases, further the policy was not posted.
I returned a third time with my dodge ball league. The event was promoted with having 128oz tubes of beer for $20. I tried to order one and the bar tender was rather rude about not having them available. To his credit, when I called him out on it, he later apologized. But another 'dodge baller' reported trying to order a pitcher, but being turned down because they didn't have empty ones. C'mon, send someone to grab the extras or buy more, how much can a plastic beer pitcher really cost?
In a parallel universe, where Adams Mills is the only game in the area I can see people staying loyal to their local bar. However when there are probably 15 or 20 other places within 2 block radius, I can't see the appeal to the place. -

Adam's Mill is probably one of the more perfectly placed bars in Adams Morgan simply because it sits at the corner of the start of the strip and has plenty of room out front for people to sit outside on picnic benches and people watch. Plenty of beer on tap and in bottles, two pretty spacious floors with everal flip cup tables tell you about the crowd here - WAKA, WAKA, WAKA, that's Kickball to those who are unfamiliar with the sport.
Drinks are cheap enough and although it gets pretty packed here, the place is big enough that it's never too crowded and you can generally find a spot to chill comfortably with some friends. I'm rarely here, but when I am, it's usually a decently good time. One thing I can say is that people tend to be in a pretty good mood here, which isn't a characteristic i notice at a lot of bars - people just seem to have a really good time when they are here, which kinda rubs off, I suppose.
My recommendation would be to start your night here with a pitcher or cocktail on the patio and then meander down the drunken road that is 18th st. Don't stop till you're either on the roof at Roxanne, singing karaoke down below it, or smokin' some hookah at the very end of the road. -

Great bar for watching college football and college girls. 50 cent wings and burgers are generally pretty good, along with some solid service. Many DC kickball and softball teams converge here during weeknights, which is also fun.
All makes for a fun night out on a Friday or Saturday. -

Washington, DC
Horrible. Two separate 15-20 minute waits at the bar (different spots), and one five minute wait. There is no excuse for that at a bar EVER. I'm not talking about 15 minutes to get to the bar and get my drink, I'm talking about leaning against the wood of the bar for 15 minutes without being served.
I know how to make eye contact, and I know how to wave 20s and cards - I've worked behind a bar and I know what works - I never wait more than three minutes at most establishments. I won't go back.
(side-note: people were dancing on tables in the back while I was there. Very collegey bar, which I might have liked if I was in the mood for a rowdy night, but I can't ever justify going back) -

The mill is the best place to go grab a beer if you're having some troubles and need a drink or if you just want to catch up with some friends - especially if your friends are smokers. As a cigar smoker myself, it is REALLY DIFFICULT to find a spot where you can just sit outside for 20+ minutes and have a drink. The mill has a big patio with a nice view of the neighborhood.
Nice people and cute doggies frequent this place! So the atmosphere will always be very enjoyable and chillaxed. The prices are reasonable and good for those of us who cannot afford the fancier places. The only downside to the mill is that the food is really not that great. But the mill makes up for it by being what it's supposed to be: a great bar! -

Five stars for having the strangest assortment of people I actually knew in DC in the same place at the same time on the same night. And for convincing me that even if you are from the west coast and freezing your ass off you can go out in DC at 1 AM and have a really good time.
Little crowded though. I suggest that women wear boots. Men, just remember back to those "courtesy rules" from mosh pits.Listed in: the District Ain't so Bad…

This is one my of favorite spots in Adam's Morgan. After getting a FREE (yes, FREE) cab ride to Adam's Mill last night, I was feeling pretty bulletproof. Got in, found my friends, and ordered a Yuengling from the impressive beer tap selection. Upstairs, the crowd was a little lighter, and 2 beer pong tables were set up. I always love bars that offer this bit of college nostalgia!
My biggest concern last night occurred when I went to the bathroom. I walked into the upstairs bathroom after a short wait, and immediately realized... there was no toilet seat on the toilet. Luckily I noticed right away and saved myself from the inevitable "your boyfriend left the toilet seat up and you unwittingly plunked down and got an unwanted ass-rinse." But I was a little bit unsettled that a bar would leave their bathroom in such a state!
Forgiving the bathroom incident, I always have a great time at Adam's Mill and will of course continue to patronize. -

This is my favorite bar in Adams Morgan. It reminds of the great Ohio State Bar- Out-R-Inn (oh how I miss mug night!)
Anyway, my favorite points:
- Rather cheap beer- 10 dollar pitchers (for good beer) on occassion
- AWESOME burgers
- a great outdoor patio on the street (dog friendly)
- funny bouncers
- cute bartenders
- great football on the multiple tv's.
- big long bar with extra seats and hooks for your purse
Now, I don't usually come here on a Friday or Saturday night, but I have never found it too crowded and the crowds are always easy-going and there to have a good time. I have never gone upstairs- I have always enjoyed myself downstairs, but it sounds like fun.
BTW, if you are expecting a kohler sink in your bathroom, this isn't your place- so just suck it up and realize that a semi-dive bar joint will have a matching bano.
Thanks Adams Mill!! You rock! -

I use to come here when I was younger.. then kinda faded out of it.
I actually went back there this past Friday, and to my lovely surprise the outside cash bar was still there. AWESOME!
This is the only place in the AM that I know I can walk into and have a beer in my hands in no more than 25seconds from entering the place.
I challenge you to find a place faster than this. It is not grossly over packed like the other places and you can still talk and meet new interesting people.. or interesting enough depending on how much you have been drinking.
Hang out by the door between the patio area and the inside area, you will watch people eat it all night long. It is one measly step but the best drunks always forget it. Makes me smile.
My friends and I actually stumbled through it again on Saturday night also, and BAM! Still awesome.
Thanks for staying classy Adam's Mill.
By classy I mean DRUNK. -

Sometimes I walk in to the Mill and turn around and walk out. Other times it keeps me there much longer than anticipated. With something like three or four floors, there is a lot going on here. The whole building just looks like it's going to collapse, but that may just be because I walk out with eyes blurry looking at it sideways usually.
They have outdoor seating which can be nice. During football games I vaguely (as usual) remember them having some sort of all you can eat crab deal. -

Great bar. Super friendly bartenders. Decent selection of beers on tap, not the cheap domestic stuff.
I was waiting for a friend out in the 90+ degree heat, sweatin' like a pig. All I could think about was a ice cold beer so we wound up here. The glasses were even frosted! I was so excited! (It doesn't take much to make me happy.)
I also remember walking by a couple of times and there's a live band playing in the area outside of Adam's Mill so if you sit outside, you can drink and enjoy. I just don't remember which day... -

If you're going out for a night in Adams Morgan in the summer, this is a great place to start. Reminds me of college dive bars, but in a good way, with a laid-back feel, no pretense, and lots of eye candy. Last time I went, I started off with a long island, and though it cost $10, it was huge and, um... fortified me enough to bear the longer lines at other places without losing a buzz. The deck is a great place to drink and people-watch if you can find space.
Very good happy hour specials too. -

This was my kickball bar this past season, which made me a regular at Adams Mill. Now that I have moved to the area it is my go to bar for a chill night.
If you wanna get away from the Adams Morgan crazyness Adams Mill is the perfect spot. With the outside patio you can enjoy a nice night with some brews. They have a good selection on tap and get this the mix drinks come in pint glasses.
If you know anything about me the difference between 3 stars and 4 is serving your mix drink in pint glasses. Pint glasses + outside area + huge bar + great staff = great chill DC bar. -

This place is straight-up fun. During the week, you can play flip cup here, or at least myself and my kickball colleagues do so. While this definitely drops the maturity level and makes you feel as though you're in the basement at a college house party, we are all looking for that sometimes! Because, as my one friend says, college is never over!
So yeah, this is a place to come and watch sports or just chill, but not a serious place. I've heard the food is poor. It can be super crowded, much like most of the bars on 18th St. in Adams Morgan. Of course, what makes these bars crowded are those of us that see the empty bars and say "Not enough people! I'd really prefer not to be able to move! Let's go there!" But that's the way it is I guess... -

This place pretty much was exactly what I expected - and I gotta say that doesn't happen too much, so A+ for being predictable. The beer selection is good and the food is not groundbreaking, but also predictable
The bar really shines in the summer with their open patio. If you don't mind the kickballers and bocce ball players streaming in with their annoying matching shirts and cheesy throwback socks, the bar offers a relaxing setting to enjoy a summer evening.
One time I was here and the bartender was playing what I believe was Nickelback (or similar) so I headed for the jukebox. After selecting various crowd pleasers such as Luther Vandross, O-Town, Tom Waits and Lady GaGa I waited for the music to come on...but it never did. The bartenders came over and set us up with about $20 in free credits when he found out we were trying to play some sweet tunes...so it wasn't long before "dance with your father" was rocking out in the bar.
Another anecdote - they were filming a movie here the summer of 2009 where I saw Elle Woods (who I was later told is actually named Reese Witherspoon), and asked if I was part of the 'background'...I was just on my way to the metro so I declined the question. I'm not sure I want to be in Elle Woods background anyhow. -

Any place that loves our dogs, earns my love pretty easily...they always pet our dogs and bring out a bowl of water. The beer is cold and they are friendly. I usually have to walk inside to get my check but a little exercise never hurt anyone...

Your neighborhood bar in the heart of AM, it's located at a great spot. It was chill to just sit there for a drink and people watch. You definitely get the local, younger sporty crowd here. We seemed to end up at this bar to wind down the night. Heard that it may be ceasing operation by the end of the month. It's sad.

I moved out to DC from CA right after college and was lucky enough to live right around the corner from this place for a couple of months. I first stopped in to watch Sunday football and got hooked on their tasty 25cent wing deal and cheap domestics during football games (not sure if they still have it going, but if so it is worth it).
Weekend nights in Adams Morgan were pretty crazy and for me they always seemed to end at Adams Mill losing my voice to bon jovi songs with friends. I have some great memories of this place, and probably a few that I have forgotten, but if you are looking for cheap drinks (for DC), a fun crowd, and an evening out in Adams Morgan then head up to Adams Mill, you wont be disappointed. -

OMFG! ADAM'S MORGAN!!!!!!
i completely forgot what it was like to go out in adam's morgan because i haven't been back in years, but adam's mill brought it all back!
randomest bar EVER! three stories tall.
first story = sports bar (lame)
second story = dark sports bar wtih dancing (semi-lame)
third story = lounge (HOT)
as you go up, the venue gets hotter and hotter and the people get hotter and hotter. if you find a hot guy on the first floor, do NOT settle. keep climbing those stairs and your prize will be at the top! ;D
strong, strong drinks poured by the hot bartender on the top. do NOT order a double. it will end up being a quadruple! -

I have a special place in my partying heart for this place. All in all it is a bit of dump. BUT, I have had some of the best times of the last few years there! The second and third floors can be reserved for cheap for a private party. The music is cheesy, but great for a big group of people who like to sing along and rockfist!

The Mill, as it's known to locals, is a bar that's good for anything: great patio to sit outside and enjoy the heat and humidity of a DC summer, a number of TVs upstairs to watch sports, an expansive selection of beers (and $10 pitchers!), and friendly service. The crowd here is pretty chill, and the food is OK. It's bar food...not a whole lot to say there. Whatever you order, get a side of honey mustard. I'm sure it's out of a giant wholesale container, but it's to die for.

The downstairs is unappealing on the weekends, unless you like loud, uncomfortable spaces. This bar does have three floors, though, so usually I can escape to higher ground if I end up hanging out here. The only notable thing about Adams Mill is that you can arrange to have your own private party here, even on the weekends. When I did it for one of my friends, we just gave them an approximate number of people and everyone paid $25 to drink all night and eat appetizers. It went on for pretty long, too -- about four hours. We had the top floor reserved, so "unwanted" people couldn't really crash without us noticing. Adams Mill during a private party is exceptional -- otherwise I'd skip it.

When I lived in Adams Morgan, this was in easy stumbling distance from home. This place makes me think of swimming pools---yep, it's a real dive. But man, the beer is cheap and the talk even cheaper. The patio is great in warm weather. If you're looking for clean restrooms, go elsewhere; well, Adams Morgan in general is probably the wrong place to be. It would be like going to Kansas and asking where's the best surf break. Drink beer, be happy, do the sidewalk weave walking home.

For some reason this is the place I take out-of-towners when they're looking for a casual pub-type bar in the Adam's Morgan area. Lots of people here so the eye candy is catching and there's plenty of interesting people to meet and talk to. Not as loud and disgusting as other places of the like in the area. Be sure to try the second and third floors of this place if you're looking for more elbow room.

Two and a half stars. This is the stereotypical Adams Morgan bar that attracts sports teams and loud out of towners and that locals like to complain about. Its three floors are jammed on weekends and it's bartenders range from friendly to boorish. It's only redeeming factors: a nice outdoor seating area and a better than average selection of draft beers at the downstairs bar (a recent visit found Fordham's Queen Ann Kolsch on tap). If you must go, do so during the week and sit outside.

3.5 stars, this bar is pretty standard as far as decent sports bars go, although the front patio and quality food edge it above a number of numbering spots. Definitely one of the better places to watch sports with some food and drinks in Adams Morgan.

Good local bar with a dive like atmosphere. My friend knew one of the bartenders so we never had to wait and the drinks were all reasonably priced which is a huge plus in DC. I never ventured beyond the first floor but will definitely check out the other two floors next time. the DJ played a good mix of new and older stuff and was good with requests. My only complaint is that the dance floor is next to the bathrooms so it smelled like toilet the entire night.

Adams Mill is usually where my crew starts out our Adams Morgan nights. They play great 80s tunes mixed with Top 40 and its a fun place to go dance and let loose- the crowd is far from pretentious. In my experience, the bartenders are all really great (especially Hank) and I've never had a bad experience here. The crowd is an interesting mix of ages, but I wouldn't say its at all ethnically diverse. I've never seen so much quintessential white guy dancing in my life. Last Saturday they had a woman selling beers outside as soon as you cleared the bouncer. Amazing.

i give this bar 5 stars for a few reasons.
first they've helped me throw a fundraiser (with anotherin the works)
second i know a bunch of people in adams morgan who are neighborhood patrons there (kinda like cheers i suppose)
bartenders have always been pleasant and friendly.. but lets be honest whe its crowded its crowded - they can't sit there and have a conversation with you - that being said its adams morgan... every place gets packed to the gills on the weekends... you're gonna have to wait in line to get a drink... suck it up. if you want a less crowded bar where you get served within 3 minutes then go to some other part of the city where you aren't shoulder to shoulder with someone.
the owner is a nice fella who will help the community and support local activities. (fundraisers and kickball teams) as far as i know he's active in the neighborhood buisnesses as well. which is more than i can say for some of the other establishments who are a bit more stuck up.
drinks are more affordable here than most places along the 18th street strip.
thats all i got
oh yea i'm willing to put a little extra effort into helping anyone who'll help the community out - not just get rich off of the patrons.. another reason for another star -

A DC classic for the college and recent-graduate crowd on weekends, though some of the better times are the off-weekend nights. With a large outdoor space and 3 floors of fun, the Mill offers a few different experiences depending on what you are looking for.
Want to dance all night to Top-40? Go to the back of the 1st floor on a Saturday after about 11pm.
Want to watch football and eat wings with other cheering fans? Head up to the 2nd floor and grab a seat in the middle to see all the games at once.
Want to get outside on a warm summer night for a chilly beer and a burger? Look no further than the covered patio that is great even in a sudden thunderstorm.
