I've been going here since I moved to the area about 13 yrs ago & I've never really been disappointed in Adam's. Supporting small businesses is more important now than ever w/big corporate stores dominated every region. Adam's has kept themselves going by reputation & the fact that they can stand up to the big chains makes me proud to shop there!

Be sure to spend a LOT of time wandering around their cheese shop, they sell Maytag Blue cheese which is probably the best domestic blue you can get!

It is the best one you could find in this area. It is so much intimate and fresh than the giant chain stores. But very often, the store tries to dump near-spoiled stuff, e.g.. cheese for a "special", which means the taste might be very disappointing. I have run into situation as such at least 3 times. The prepared deli food has the WORST CHEF in the region. I still go there every week, and as long as you are careful, you will find a wide range of fresh goodies there.  The new store at route 9 has a great BAKERY SHOP that has very FRESH BAKED GOODIES at VERY REASONABLE PRICE.

I like this place for the meats, produce, chocolate shop and random imported goods from who-knows-where (which I don't really buy but like to browse ;)).  If I had a garden and house of my own I'd try the garden center and greenhouse (actually, it's kind of nice to take a minute to chill in the greenhouse by the koi pond if you're feeling burnt out). I haven't tried the cafe but the ice cream is good in the summer and the fresh, hot, cider donuts in apple-season rock on a cold day.  You have to at least try this place if you live in the area (yes you, Vassar kids).  EDIT: see my review of "Adams Cafe"-- good!

Pros: indy feel, local foods, selection (esp. cheese, meat, produce), chocolate shop, prices for meat and produce, hot donuts in Fall, ice cream stand, koi pond, helpful produce descriptions, specialty goods

Cons: non-meat and non-produce goods are usually a bit pricier than the Stop and Shop down the road, hard to shop here on a budget, sometimes hard to find things, TINY shopping carts (I'm tall, but they seem to work well for the hordes of grannies that shop here), can feel claustrophobic, congested and annoying parking lot.

I find the Arlington location has excellent produce, seafood, and poultry.

When I want the freshest ingredients, I go to Adams.  For day-to-day needs, I find Stop & Shop meets my needs.

I absolutely LOVE this store! It is the closest thing I have seen to a Whole Foods Market since I moved here.

They have a lot of my favorite health foods, but they also have my husband's favorite junk foods. lol. They also have a lot of local produce and meats, and their fresh fish selection is awesome.

Okay, so if there was a Whole Foods near here, I probably wouldn't be as excited about Adam's, but there isn't, so I am. Compared to the other grocery stores in the area, Adam's is by far the best.

The only negative I have to say is their chocolate store area. I expected quality chocolates like at Whole Foods, but really they tasted a lot like powdered milk and not so much like chocolate. I recommend steering clear of that area and spending your money in the seafood area instead. You'll be glad you did! :)

    Adams is strangely addictive

Everywhere I go everything looks the same; like a low budget driving scene with repeating landscape; planned housing community, Home Depot, WalMart, McDonald's, aaaaaaand repeat. I suppose this is what I enjoy about Adam's, it's unique to the area like Stew Leonard's.

A trip to Adam's is super fun. Local produce at very good prices, great selection of cheese, dips, prepared foods, imported goods, natural foods, big deli, meat department, seafood, and a great greenhouse to wander around in the dead of winter (why do I love that weird nitrogen fertilizer smell so much?).

Wednesday nights after 5pm get 10% off your order.

Other locations in Kingston, Newburgh and coming soon to Fishkill. Adam's- yay!

Adams, I love you. You always have such delicious fruits and veggies for us and such tempting cheeses among your many offerings. Your employees are super friendly and helpful, especially the boys in the produce department. Our chickens very much appreciate your vegetable trimmings especially in these cold days of winter when the grass is huddled in the Earth. Thank you from them to you. Cock a doodle yum yum.

And despite it looking empty in my photos, it was packed today. I just had to be patient for pix. :)

One of my closest friends Mike Doland (Shout out!!) works here and he loves it.  I like Adams as well.  They have an abundance of gourmet items that makes cooking for me more fun than it already is.

Adams would be an ideal place to conduct regular grocery shopping if I didn't live 35 mins from there.  Even though I'm in Rhinebeck and there IS an Adams in Kingston, it's not even CLOSE to the Poughkeepsie location.  It's bigger, I know a lot of the guys that work there (and they can't play ball either...scrubs!!).

The produce is aplenty and the meat market is quite nice.  Adams is also the only place (to my knowledge) in this area that sells sashimi grade tuna.  Sure, ok...it is always previously frozen but if you want to make spicy tuna rolls, where else are you going to get sushi grade tuna?

Last Xmas, we took our daughter to see Santa.  Take your kids to see Santa this year.  I command you!!  Oh yeah, shop at Adams and support local business!!!

Oh Adam's, how I have taken you for granted.  Having spent most of my life within walking distance of this place I never knew just how amazing this place was for fresh produce, meats, cheeses, and practically anything else except for Doritos.

Relatively recently I walked in after many many years of absence and it just smells freaking amazing.  It's no wonder why people are willing to drive from miles away just to shop here.

I'm sure the people who read this from Cherry Hill are like dude what the heck are you talking about.

This is an excellent upscale grocery with a large produce section. It stocks many healthy foods although it is not a natural foods store. It includes a large deli and an ice cream store. Staff is friendly and helpful. The large parking lot is always nearly full, but so many people are moving in and out that we were always able to find a space.

One of the most exciting places in Poughkeepsie! If you are tired of going to the stereotypical grocery store and need some variety ,then this is the place.

They have a huge variety of cheese, and organic syrups and homemade Granola oats and a small section to satisfy your sweet tooth. They have some homemade chocolates which are absolutely yummy.

Every time i am bored, and have no where to go then this is where i would love to go,walk around and fill up the shopping cart with different kinds of items and pay an extremely reasonable price and walk out with a huge smile. :D

Right outside Adam's is a pastry store which has quite a good collection of cookies and cakes.Make sure you visit this sweet neighbor when you head to Adams.

See you soon Mr.Adam! loveee you :D

In college, my housemates and I had to divide groceries into two lists. NEEDS and WANTS. 3 of us worked two jobs. One had no money, ever, and the 4th had a trust fund we didn't find out about until half way through the year, but played broke all the time.

NEEDS were bread, milk, eggs, cheese, basic veggies. WANTS were Soy Vey teriyaki sauce, brie, etc.

NEEDS didn't have to be fancy and could be bought anywhere (when at our brokest, we got eggs from the gas station across the road... in quarters) NEEDS had to be bought on a budget or we'd all just end up eating rice with whatever condiments we had.

Thus Adams was only visited on a rare occasion. We wished we could shop there every day. One even wished they could live there. So sad. So wonderful. So many great, products... the closest thing to Rainbow grocery, or god even Trader Joe's I could find in Po-town.

It was frustrating to find that the freshest, organic and healthiest items in the area were so expensive and thus this Cali girl, who has these things at her disposal at home, had to get used to those things being out of her reach, in the dear old Hudson valley.

    Adams oh Adams.
It saved my from losing more than 10 pounds Freshman year.
For when I wasn't willing to go to Danbury for TJs.
For when I couldn't eat one more piece of fruit shipped from 2 to 8 thousand miles away from Stop n Shop
For when I couldn't afford the produce at the farmers market.

For when I missed Northern California's bourgeois delights.
In the search for fine soda and olive oil and produce but not so fine meat.
This was and still is the place.
    This was the spot.

So close, and yet so far...from my college student budget.

Adam's is a wonderful local grocery store in Poughkeepsie; fresh produce, seafood, meat and deli, nicely stocked aisles, but its the small things that make is a step above the rest. Their prepared foods are quite delicious, they have a chocolates shop in the midst of the store, their cheese selection, and their AMAZING all natural peanut butter - both plain AND honey roasted!!! They also have a cute little cafe (indoor and outdoor seating), with an ice cream parlor attached. I love it!

And during holidays like Halloween and Christmas, they have the best selection of pumpkins and trees (and wreaths). I've actually driven back from college with a tree on my car so that my family could have a fresh Christmas tree (instead of the ones we get on the NYC sidewalks).

Only problem? Price. Sad to say, I end up shopping at the Super Stop and Shop instead because I can get much better prices there (and my card gets me points off their gas price too - major bonus). So, Adam's unfortunately is relegated to special visits that are few and far between.

I absolutely love Adams!  While not a full grocery store, they carry items I have been unable to find anywhere else in Poughkeepsie.  They get their fish in fresh daily, their meat is top quality as is their produce.  Their selection of cheeses is fantastic... I don't know when I have had that kind of variety to choose from.  I particularly love that they stock an extensive variety of local artisan breads.

Their garden section has a great selection of seasonal plants to choose from, as well as supplies inside the store.  The staff is very helpful and friendly.

Adams Fairacre Farms is a Hudson Valley gem.  Adams has spoiled me for all other grocery stores and I now get all of my produce, deli, and specialty items there.  The produce at other supermarkets just looks terrible in comparison.

Adams offers Boar's Head meats, excellent specialty coffees, great seafood shop, and some of the best white meat ground turkey I've found anywhere.  The garden center at the Poughkeepsie location is fantastic.

The store makes shopping fun by having samples, friendly staff, and regular integration of new items.  I often try to get there at 8:00am when they open to beat the crowds.

If you love food, then there's no local substitute for Adams. It's THE place for gourmet cheeses, fresh fish, and seasonal, local produce.

I love Adams, although I must admit I prefer the Adams in Newburgh to the one in Poughkeepsie.  The same fresh veggies, fruits and other delectables are found at the Poughkeepsie store, which is kept in tip-top working order, but my basic criticism of this store is its layout.  I suppose I am used to the Newburgh store, but the Poughkeepsie store seems a bit smaller and the aisles slanted and more narrow.  Granted, this might not seem like a reason to deduct a star, but the layout was confusing to me - aisles of pasta, crackers and bread separating the dairy products from the meat and fish counters, which doesn't happen at the Newburgh store - and it all kind of put a damper on my shopping experience.  The shopping carts were also smaller.  Throw in the fact that if you come up Route 9 South you end up having to drive through some of the less savory portions of the city of Poughkeepsie to get to Adams, and you have the makings of a 4-star Yelp review.

Again, this is not to deter anyone from shopping at this store, or at any Adams in the area.  They are a wonderful grocery store chain (I hate to use that word to describe them) that harkens back to an era when grocery stores were stores, not places the size of an airplane hanger. Adams is committed to providing excellent, high-quality products in a more or less inviting setting, and for that reason I will continue to be a customer (just maybe not in Poughkeepsie).

Like Yogi Berra said "Nobody goes there, it's too crowded" Adams Fairacre Farms is a wonderful grocery shopping experience. Be prepared though to shop elbow to elbow with the locals, side note: we've seen Pete Seeger and David Strathairn shop there.

They have great local produce and meats and a greenhouse with great houseplants and other such nonsense :)

It does get crowded here so be prepared to push around a little shopping cart like bumper cars. All in all a great grocery store.

    I. Love. Adams.

The best place to grocery shop in the Hudson Valley.  I'm a Poughkeepsie native, and have fond memories of my shopping trips there as a little kid.  Of course, I loved it then for childish reasons- the friendly employees who would smile and hand cookies to my siblings and I, the jellybeans my mom would purchase around Easter, the fresh greenbeans we would snack on in the car ride home...

I still love Adams now that I'm in my twenties, but for different reasons.  It has the freshest, highest quality selection of food to be found in the area.  There's a fabulous greenhouse and nursery, which is the only place I go for gardening and landscaping supplies.  The staff is still friendly and helpful, and the all-around shopping experience is enjoyable.  Once you go Adams, you'll never go back.

I only frequented Adams on a few occasions during my time at Vassar because I was a poor college student who liked the prices and sales at the slightly closer Stop and Shop, but I loved Adams nonetheless.  The produce and meats are superb, and having so many local products in one place rocked.  I especially enjoyed the comprehensive maple syrup and other maple products shelves.  Little is better than maple cream.

Also check out the Garden section... Awesome!

Adam's-THANK YOU FOR BEING HERE!!! I love this store. It's pretty far from where I live yet I make the haul regularly because the other options are dismal. My only complaint is that it is cramped and confusing in there, you certainly need to be patient...I often feel like I'm walking in circles for 40 minutes. But hey, if it was less cramped they would have less options so I'll take it. Some things are priced a bit high, but others are not...so it all comes out in the wash, as far as I'm concerned. I'm just glad we have Adam's because without it, it would be pretty rough up here!

For the area it's a great store, there is no competition for them.  A lot of great local items, but WAY too much crammed onto shelves, do they really need 8 different granola producers?  Or 25+ bread makers? And then have there own bread and granola to compete with local and national brands.  I can say you will find a diverse mix of things, a good fish and meat sections, but with all the local farmers no local vegetables or meats, at least not well advertised.  Staff can be difficult and not very helpful.    Adams is also in the fence, tractor etc. business, and they have 2 other stores in Kingston and Newburgh, with a new one under construction in Wappingers Falls, so the focus has strayed from supporting the local farmers to catering to weekenders.
