When I was a little girl, I was taken to a dentist who I am certain purchased his instruments from a medieval yard sale. He was just the first in a series of nightmare dentists, one of them being eerily similar to Dr. Orin Scrivello, without the benefit of humor or a musical score. I was terrified to the point of having to request gas for simple cleanings. I eventually wound up going to a perfectly nice but completely ineffectual dentist. He didn't hurt me, but on the other hand he didn't do much of anything at all.
It came to pass that I had a chipped tooth that was aching, and I knew it was time for a cleaning. I also figured that it was time to put on my big-girl pants and find a real dentist. I read in NJ Monthly about Dr. Adams being one of the Top Dentists in New Jersey and her office is conveniently located in my town, so I made an appointment. I am so very glad I did.
First, the staff at Adams Dental is amazing, particularly Andréa. They emailed me all the forms so I could fill them in at my leisure before my first visit. They confirmed my appointment. They greeted me warmly when I entered the door at the crack of dawn. And then I met Dr. Adams, one of the nicest, most energetic people I've ever met, who proceeded to give me the most thorough dental exam I've ever had in my life, reassuring me and explaining everything she was doing as she was doing it.
I needed a scaling and a tiny cavity filled. Terror. They made two appointments for me and told me to bring my iPod, which was brilliant. Music sounds much better than the sonic cleaning thing. By the end of the first appointment I was fairly certain I didn't need the gas that I had asked for (though I'm still not quite brave enough to go without). She was as gentle as could be, and distracted me with a combination of facts and humor. Her amazing staff followed-up with me after the appointments to make sure I was doing OK.
I have to go back for a crown. Though I'm not overjoyed, I know I am finally in good hands, that there's not going to be any unneccessary pain, and that they're on top of things. The work so far has been outstanding, and I'm looking forward to a lifetime of healthy teeth.
It is impossible to be this good at something without loving what you do - and clearly Dr. Adams takes pride in her profession. I adore this practice so much that I have taken up flossing (somewhat) regularly. If you need a dentist, I highly recommend Dr. Adams and her fabulous team. -

Beware!! I used their dental services and was informed by their billing manager, Andrea, that services were covered by the insurance company. Andrea actually said that she called and confirmed with my insurance company that the services were covered. I trusted her and had the services performed and of course, the insurance company denied payment. When I tried to discuss matters with the office they acted very aloof to the situation and Dr. Adams and her billing manager actually lied and said they told me that the services would not be covered. I would never have had the procedures performed had I known they would not have been covered by my insurance - that's why I pay for insurance. Afterwards, the insurance company actually told me that they would have covered the procedure if the dentist had actually split the procedure into two and waited a two month gap in between procedures. Of course I would have waited, I was not in dying nor was it an emergency. DON'T TRUST THEM - DO YOUR OWN DUE DILIGENCE!

Dr. Allison M. Adams, recognized as one of the Top Dentists in New Jersey by New Jersey Monthly Magazine in 2010 and 2011, was born and raised in Madison, New Jersey, and is proud to deliver comprehensive dental care to her friends and neighbors. She completed her undergraduate studies in 1985 at the College of St. Elizabeth and went on to study dentistry at the UMDNJ-New Jersey Dental School, graduating in 1991.
