Mr. Nguyen is simply THE BEST! I was hesitant to write this review, as he's already so popular that turnaround time is at least a week, but the wait is worth it for the quality and his super reasonable prices!!

He charges super affordable prices for the amazing work that he does. I used to think that getting pants hemmed wasn't worth the money, but Mr. Nguyen's quality and prices make it much more easy for me to find pants without worrying about the length!

He charges $12 for pants to be hemmed regardless of whether they are jeans, dress pants, etc. I also have had suit jackets and peacoats resewned and he has only charged $9. He's incredibly honest, and definitely trust his opinion on how short to hem the pants. There was one time where I thought it would still be too long, and I should have listened to Mr. Nguyen.

He only takes cash but it's worth the extra effort to make sure you have cash for his quality work. I don't visit Pioneer Square often but make the exception just to go to Mr. Nguyen. I'm amused that he wears a suit while he's at work all the time too. He's super popular around the city, so turnaround is at least a week, so definitely plan accordingly.

Still love this guy. I put off bringing in alternations because getting to Pioneer Square and finding parking is annoying, but finally I couldn't wait anymore. I brought in a pair of jeans to hem, a pair of jeans to patch, and two shirts that just needed to be sewn (I can't sew, sadly enough). For $25 everything was fixed within two weeks.

Yes, it takes awhile, but that is the price you pay for good service. While I was there, a guy called in asking if he could get something altered THAT DAY - not gonna happen, buddy. But if you can wait awhile? Go to Adam Tailoring.

I love reading all the articles on the wall about Mr. Nguyen and his humble beginnings. He's a very sweet man and is someone I actually WANT to give my business to.

However, with small places like this you do sometimes run into issues. When I went to pick up my alterations, there was a sign on the window saying he was out and would be back - luckily, I got there about ten minutes before he returned so I didn't have to wait in the cold too long. He only takes cash or check, no cards, and the place is also tiny so good luck moving around if anyone else is in there! Again, these are pretty typical things with small places, and overall it's totally worth it.

This tailor is the real deal. He is well turned out, courteous, skilled in classic tailoring, delivers on time and very reasonably priced. Funky shop in Pioneer Square is fun to visit. Be sure to bring cash or check, old school right down to the hand written receipt.

He fitted me and tailored my suit well. I brought the jacket back because I thought the sleeves were too short, but he patiently explained to me that it was the way the suit was designed, and that my shirt sleeves were actually too long. He moved the buttons on my shirt cuffs for free to compensate, on the spot.

    Prices are fair.

I considered this place and the Irish woman in Ballard. I ended up here because it was more convenient for me. Adam is not a big conversationalist, so if you want fashion advice I would recommend someone else. Best to go here if you know the basics of tailoring/fitting clothes and know what works on your body.

Everytime I go to Mr. Adam, he is always dressed in a button up shirt and a blazer jacket with a friendly demeanor.  I have dropped off over 15 different pants and jackets for alterations and no issues thus far.

Price:  better than most.  He won't gouge you for unneeded work as he will point out if that adjustment you want is really needed.  This is helpful to clueless folks like me.  On some parts where I needed to fix the button, it was a very minimal cost (free if it is really minor).

Workmanship:  high quality.   I took multiple pants and needed the waist to be adjusted (I am getting fat!!).  I inspected all of the pants again when I got home sure enough, great work.

Time:  he does take longer than others to finish the orders as he is backlogged so if you need something right away, most likely he won't be able to help you.  He did ask me up front if I needed it right away so I felt that that was courteous and considerate.

Parking: always a sting in the keister but isn't that the same everywhere in downtown?  I have had great success and found a parking spot every single time within minutes of circling the block.

What's really funny is that his commercial sewing machine and set up reminds me much of my own father and his upholstery business.  I think I will call my dad tonight....

    Adam is my secret.

Literally in a hole-in-the-wall, he has been making clients better looking since 1984. With 40 years of experience as a tailor, in Vietnam and tucked away in the tiny shop on Jackson, Be Van Nguyen, is still the best deal in town.

He charges about $7 to hem pants and about $13 to shorten a jacket sleeve. Unbelievable.

He watches out for your wallet: if he doesn't think a piece needs the change you're proposing, he'll tell you so.

He is honest: I saw a woman with a big booty in there who wanted a skirt tighter and tighter, and Adam suggested, "aahh, maybe tight enough."

It really sucks to be a vertically challenged person. It would be really cool to buy clothes off the rack and wear them. Those of you who fall into the off the rack clothes wearers are freaking lucky. Since I'm not an off the rack kind of guy, I go to Adam Tailor to get my clothes worked on.

I agree with Kuang C. that he is the best deal in town. How can you beat $7 to hem pants? I figure I still come out ahead when I get great deals on clothes and then take them down to Mr. Nguyen to work on them. I usually take 5-8 pieces at a time and get them back in about a week.

I've been going to this place since the early 90's and I'm a very satisfied client.

Adam is the most dedicated, hardworking tailor I have ever met.

He works in a tiny 6x6 space on Jackson complete with a changing room upstairs. His old school Singer sewing machine sits in the corner and bags of clothes are stacked against the wall. It may look disorderly to you and me, but rest assured, Adam knows exactly what he's doing.

Adam was a pro at finishing up my boyfriend's CK suit. His mad skills took excess material from the pants, used them to lengthen the arms, and slimmed up the body.

The result? A fabulous custom tailored suit! GENIUS!

My fiancee ordered a suit for our wedding from an online store, and when it came we loved the fabric and cut, but we needed a few tweaks here and there to make it just right.

We went to yelp (obviously) to find the best tailor in Seattle. Adam Tailor had the best reviews, so we trucked to Pioneer Square one morning.

Could not be happier with the work he did. He is old school in all the right ways - warm but not overly friendly, professional, quick, honest. As soon as Ryan came downstairs in the suit, he got to work. Without even a word from either of us, he started to make the exact changes we thought the suit needed - took in the arms and back of the jacket, brought in the seat of the slacks, and then told us that he would use the hemmed fabric to lengthen the sleeve and move the buttons to make the length exactly right.

We came to pick up the suit 10 days later and it fit beautifully. But the best was yet to come...

While Ryan was upstairs changing back into his street clothes, Adam pulled out a coat hanger draped with neck ties. "Which one?" he whispered to me, "We'll surprise him." I picked a striped Brooks Brothers tie, and he smiled and folded it neatly into the bottom of the garment bag.

We love him. Love him. Love. Him. Want him to do our first son's briss. Love.

    I am short.
Or rather, petite.  Whatever.  Short, petite.  I'm little.

Sometimes the pants purchased in the petite section still don't fit me.  So I took 2 pairs to Mr Nguyen and he worked his magic and BAM!  I haz pants that fit now.

No more dragging in the mud, no more fraying at the bottoms of pants.  I'm taking my stuff to Adam Tailor from now on.

As someone with short legs, I have resigned myself to the fact that I will never buy a pair of perfect-fitting jeans. However, up until now I have been too lazy and too cheap to do anything about it. Luckily I had a great first experience with Adam and will never settle for cuffed jeans again.

While I'm still not sure how I feel about Pioneer Square (super cool neighborhood, super sketchy people), the store is in a pretty quiet location(2nd + Jackson). Adam is the NICEST guy and has the most infectious smile. I trusted him with my designer jeans right away.

He charged me $25 to hem 2 pairs of jeans and repair a hole in another. I was kind of expecting a lower price, but I didn't press the issue. Still a pretty decent price.

I got the jeans back today (I think he quoted 7-10 days for the job) and the hems are perfect... you seriously can't even tell. I've had problems in the past with hems being too short, and the length was perfect.

It's definitely a hole-in-the-wall kind of place, but I'm pleased with Adam's work and will continue to go back for all my pant-shortening needs.

This is the only place I take my clothes to these days.  I have gone to many sub-par tailors in Bellevue AND Seattle (who shall remain anonymous), and finding one as good as Mr. Nguyen is no small feat.  I've had it all: hems too short, skirts too tight, sleeves uneven.  NO MORE!

I'm a shortie and my pants are always too long--I don't wear heels anymore so they have to be taken up.  Enter Adam Tailor: every pant hem is perfectly even and in my experience his turnaround time is about a week.  Word of his greatness must've gotten out, because sometimes it's longer.  And to the naysayers: good work takes time!  Especially if his client list is growing exponentially thanks to Yelpers.

My most recent awesome experience: I finally found a single-breasted wool coat for winter at the Rack.  However, the sleeves were too long and had some ridiculous detailing I didn't want.  I took it with me with a batch of pants, and explained exactly what I wanted done.  I had to do some haggling ("I'm ditching the cuff straps, but keeping the back one!") but he agreed to my alterations.

After about 10 days (it was SO worth the wait!), my coat was ready -- I tried it on immediately, and let out a giddy little shriek: it was PERFECT.  The buttons were fixed, the sleeves were the right length, and those stupid cuff straps were gone.  :D

Adam Tailor is the real deal.  He gets my business now and always.  If I could subtract a teeny tiny portion of a star for not taking plastic, I would.  But that's a very small quibble.

The best tailor I've been to, mostly because his prices are incredibly cheap compared to others around Seattle - and there is no drop-off in quality.

Echoing the sentiments of other "vertically challenged" clients of Adam, I gotta bring in clothes to get em just right - specifically button up shirts. Seriously, if you're a 5'8" male like myself, you should really consider getting those off the rack button ups shortened just a bit (if you're gonna leave em untucked) - they're just not made for people of our dimensions. and it only costs $8! go anywhere else, and you'll likely be charged $25+ for the same job. the trickier the tailoring job, the higher the cost, obviously (i.e. $11 to shorten sleeves), but still several levels cheaper than the next guy.

and i duno if it's cuz im a fellow viet, but adam is damn friendly, and even reduced the price for me one time when i wanted further work done on an item and he felt bad for charging me too much. now that's customer service. too bad he's on a one month vacation or something.

I've never had to take anything to a tailor other than to get off the rack suits fitted.  I found some awesome jeans for supercheap because the zipper was broken. With a little research I discovered this place only a few blocks away from the girl's place in Pioneer Square.
Adam couldn't have been more friendly or efficient in dealing with me. I showed him the broken zipper, he mulled over it for a second and let me know it was a little more difficult than normal jeans because there were three different colors of stitching he would have to use to completely replace the zipper assembly. $16 and come back in 2 weeks. Easy enough, and so I did and I have fully functioning $90 for a grand total of $35 with repair!  I will be going to Adam for any future alterations or repairs for sure.

Tucked into pioneer square is Adam Taylors. I  have gone to Adam twice to get my pants hemmed. The place is very tiny but it's really an interesting atmosphere, it's so small and crowded but i actually like it. Adam is a really nice man, i don't think he speaks a lot of English but you can still communicate with him.

Each time that i have gone to get clothing altered he has had me try the clothes on and then asked me how i wanted them to look. Each time it took about a week to get my clothing back but it is very great quality, you can't tell barely that he made any changes.

    Prices are pretty good too,

-- 11/15/09: Amended from my original five start review.  Mr. Nguyen is still a very talented, nice and affordable tailor that I plan on bringing more work to in the future.  However, this review is for anyone taking a wedding dress to be altered.  Be sure to be SPECIFIC with what you want.  He did a great job of tailoring the dress to fit (taking it in some places, letting it out of other places, etc.).  However, he was supposed to add a bustle for the train and totally messed this part up.  The hook was in the wrong place and he didn't complete the bottom part so the train of the dress wouldn't stay up. My mom had to redo this two days before the wedding.

I think this was just a miscommunication on our part, as I, not really knowing what a bustle was supposed to look like in the first place wasn't very specific.  So just make sure to be EXTRA specific if you plan on getting a wedding dress tailored.
    ************************************************** *******************

Amazing job for an incredibly reasonable price.  I purchased my wedding dress in Texas but moved to Seattle to be with my fiance before it arrived ... so I had them ship it to me here in Seattle.  Somehow the measurements were wrong and the top had to be let out a bit -- a nightmare for wedding dresses as it is much easier to take something in than to let something out.

After browsing YELP I decided on Adam Tailoring since it is close to where I now live.   Mr. Nguyen is amazing!  He had me try on the dress, put a few pins in it, told me it'd be ready in two weeks and sent me on my way.  Two weeks of stressing out later, I went by to pick it up and it was PERFECT!  It fits like a glove!  Not only was it done well -- you honestly can't tell anything was done to the dress at all -- it only cost me $78!! (those of you who have had wedding dress alterations of any kind know that they can run anywhere between $200-$500).

Pros:  kind, honest man with good sense of humor and meticulous work and attention to detail.  He'll work hard to get it done by the date you need it.  Fair pricing (I would even say a bit too low).

Cons: His work space is TINY.   It is enough to fit you, Mr. Nguyen and maybe one other customer.  And, if you try anything on in the upstairs (just as tiny) and then come downstairs to show it to him, be prepared to be on display for the entire street to see you.

Some have complained on here that his work is too slow ... but seriously, it is just him and his showing machine. quality work takes time and honestly, if you need it by a certain date (like I did) he'll work round the clock to do it by that date.

excellent experience -- tip him well!

Quick, nice, and very good at dealing with tricky button reattachments, hems of different lengths (my legs are different lengths) and, oh yeah, making the waistband shorter without making the butt smaller. Genius.

Also open on Saturdays, which almost no tailor/alteration place is. Only thing i dislike is that he's a little mercurial; he likes me and sympathizes with my issues but isn't always quite as fast otherwise. Still, i've never been less than satisfied.

Adam is awesome, honest, and funny. I've only been here twice for pretty small jobs (tacking an extra row of buttons onto a double breasted pea coat and re-hemming jeans w/ original hem) but judging from the service I got and what everyone else is saying, if I ever needed something major, I'd definitely come back.

The place itself is pretty small and cramped but, hey, it's a one man operation. Usually, it takes about 10 day to get my stuff back but again, seeing as it's just Adam and his sewing machine conquering humongous piles of clothing to-be-expertly-tailored, that's understandable. I'm never in a position where I JUST HAVE TO WEAR THIS PAIR OF JEANS WITHIN THE NEXT 48 HOURS anyways. He's always super friendly to the point where I thought he remembered me when we were bantering...but when I asked him, he was just like..."uh...I see so many people everyday. If you came in a year ago, I definitely don't remember you." Appreciate the honesty. Gotta appreciate the honesty.

Mr. Nguyen of Adam Tailoring took time to consult with me about the fit of a sport coat that I purchased on EBay. As it turned out, no alterations were required, but I appreciated his honest assessment, as well as his taking time out of his busy day to help educate me. I think this type of personal service is rare these days. Since that initial visit, he has altered my clothing exactly to my liking. Mr. Nguyen is a humble, likable, hard working man of the highest integrity, matched only by his skill in tailoring. Highly recommended.

I've been bringing my clothing to Mr. Nguyen for tailoring since the early 1980s, practically since he opened his doors. I have ENORMOUS respect for this gentleman, his work ethic, and what he's accomplished. Additionally, he's survived the weekend Pioneer Square craziness, Asian gangs trying to shake him down, rents skyrocketing ... so much of that Pioneer Square chaos. He's been sewing since he was a teenager and his skill is remarkable. He's good for simple trouser hem, custom suits, and everything in between. His prices are so reasonable, his work so good, that it's absurd not to tip him VERY well. Still gotta pay in cash or check though, he's old school that way.

I went to Adam's JUST to get my jeans hemmed. Nothing fancy. It was 9 dollars and took a week to get them back. which seems sorta like a long turn around. I've never gotten anything hemmed before so I'm not sure if nine dollars is cheap, and a week is a good turn around? But whatever the case may be, the job was done well, but I think it makes more sense that he is well known for more complex altering jobs that can't be done at a dry cleaner. He's a very nice guy for sure though

Adam is absolutely phenomenal - talented, quick, reasonably priced and open reasonable hours.

I am tall but reasonably skinny, so next-to-nothing fits me off rack - either the sleeves are too short, or the shirt or jacket is too big.  Adam has the skills to keep what is working, while completely refitting the rest - all at a great price (usually never more than $10-15 per shirt, sometimes even less).

This is a sad review to write, because he's a sweet guy and does a fantastic job with his tailoring, but I unfortunately had 2 poor experiences and feel the need to share them with this community!  I have had about 6 items tailored at this place.  It was great at first (great price, great quality).  However, the last two times he (temporarily) lost my items!  They were $200 pairs of jeans on two separate occasions.  I showed up to pick them up on the date they were supposed to be ready and he searched his store for 15 minutes (meanwhile I got a parking ticket) and told me he couldn't find them.  He told me to stop by again in 2 hours.  I came back later in the day and both times he had found my jeans.  But it is extremely frustrating to waste my Saturday going back and forth to the tailor and feel stressed out that my expensive, new jeans may have disappeared (and he acted like he wasn't going to refund me for the items lost -- though we didn't get into those details quite yet).  The other difficulties with coming to this tailor is that it takes a long time to get your items back (1 to 2 weeks often)...and parking is tricky!

I wasn't planning on writing this poor review, though, until my friend called me and told me he also had his pants lost that he took to the tailor and had to come back 2 hours later to get his pants as well (which were later found).  So it seems this is a common occurrence, unfortunately.

I'm going to have to find another tailor.  I'd rather pay a few extra bucks than waste my Saturdays going back and forth to the tailor multiple times.

I picked up a tuxedo that generally fit well but with arms like floppy stovepipes.  Mr. Nguyen took in the jacket, shortened the sleeves from the shoulder and narrowed them as well exactly as I requested.  The end result is a night and day difference.  The price was reasonable.

He also has wonderful understated personal style and a homey cracker box of a storefront.

Best tailor in Seattle. No ifs ands or buts. Fabulous. As other posters have mentioned, it's a teeny  place and he has a significant turnaround. However, if having it well done is more important to you then having it done fast (it is for me), then this is the place to go.

Great tailor.  He's always done good work and is nice to deal with.  The only drawback is that you need cash.  As with most things like this in Seattle, if somewhere requires cash only, then it's a great place.

i used to fear tailors, what with their needles and their glasses always just about to fall off the tip of their nose. judgmental glare about how my fat rolls required bringing them business...

but i went to Adam, got some pants hemmed, service was fast, perfect and economical.

    i am DEFINITELY coming back.

After dragging my pant hems for years and employing the el-cheapo-good-ol'-safety-pin-hem technique, I finally decided it was time for me to grow up and get my clothes professionally altered. Being the cheapskate I am, I called dozens of places trying to find the cheapest place and to see if they would offer a discount if I brought in 20 pairs of pants. Most pant hems ran around $15 and some places said to come in and they would give me a "good deal" (meaning 10-15% off in most cases). Finally, after scouring the Internet, I learned of Adam Tailor. He got nothing but the greatest reviews and he costs about 50% less! A normal pants hem is $7, original hem is $12. His small shop lacks "atmosphere" but definitely saves on overhead costs. While he didn't offer a "bulk discount," his prices were already a great deal, so I took my pants to him. My original plan was to take one pair in, see what kind of work he did, then take the rest in. After reading all of the great reviews (people who have moved out of the city save up all their alterations to bring to him on their next trip to Seattle!), however, I decided to just trust him and put all my precious denim in his talented hands. I am not disappointed at all! Adam is very friendly, and although English is not his first language, he speaks and understands it very well. He does great work and seems to love what he does. He is located in a small shop by Qwest Field (Seahawks Stadium) and is open Monday through Saturday until 6 pm. He also owns a shop on Rainier Ave, but I have not been to that one and do not think that he is the one actually doing the work. The only negative is that he does not take debit/credit cards.
