Antelope, CA
Oh man, BEST PLACE to go for drunken munchies or late night cravings. I don't think I've ever gone here during the day time. The 24 hour drive thru is just meant for times like these. Genius!
I like to start off my feast here with a three roll taco. You get exactly what you think you get with a generous amount of guacamole on top. Carne asada fries tastes like food of the gods. Wrap carne asada fries with a tortilla and you get a California burrito! Super nachos is SUPER loaded with toppings and the crunchiness will have you reaching for more. I alternate between super nachos and carne asada fries every time I visit. And of course, you have to wash it all down with a huge cup of horchata.
This is a perfect way to end a long night of drinking, but it still tastes awesome sober! Food magically tastes better around midnight too.
PS: Be nice to your DD and SHARE! Portions are huge. -
Review from TRACY R.
Not a fan! With all the other great Mexican food choices out there, I don't see any reason for a round 2 at this place. Maybe it's what I ordered?? I don't know. My taste buds and wallet were just not happy. Maybe because this is a sober review? You know how some places are only good because you're hungover or you've been drinking all night and you need something greasy before you get in the car again..but even then I don't think I'd come back.
I ordered:
1. Chicken Enchilada Plate: the sauce over the enchilada tasted like they opened a can and poured it on top of the chicken burrito. Tasted sour..not even piping hot. The beans were an odd color and the rice tasted like cardboard. Never again!
2. Churro: That was actually the only thing I liked out of my entire order.
3. Carne Asada Fries: I felt like it was missing something. Salt? Maybe more sour cream? It was just bland!
4. Carnitas Burrito: This was the bf's order. More edible than the enchilada plate! It was OK, but no mouthgasm or anything.
Maybe this place caters to the really hungry everything taste good people, or the I need something greasy to sober-up people, or people who've never had any really good Mexican food. Sad I wasn't impressed..especially since it got 4 stars. -

The Best Adalberto's!
Out of every Adalberto's this is by far the best!
Why? Because they have the best tasting fries. It's perfectly crispy and flavorful.
This location is also the best because they are FAST! I once ordered 8 california burritos and it took 3 minutes. I swear this location possesses some crazy Mexican magic... its amazing. -

This is only my second review, so I feel obligated to set a baseline. I believe there are THREE kinds of restaurants. 1) I'm hungry !!! F**KING feed me. 2) I'm going out for dinner with my wife. 3) I will be broke for a week after this and I expect everything to be perfect. Each of the three rates 1 to 5 stars on it's own scale.
Adalberto's is Category I. Both times I've been here is because I was staying at a local hotel for a training class my work sent me to. I'm lucky to have a job where I am allowed to be armed. This is the hood. I am used to Mexican food from Oakland and Richmond AND I carry a Glock, so I feel comfortable here. If you are taking the wife and kids to Tahoe in your Tahoe, don't come here.
How to earn stars in Category I? Open 24 hours, 1 star. If I can eat anything other than franchise fast food at 3:30, you get a star. Drive thru, 1/2 star. I hate people. If I get to stay in my car, you get a half a star. AWESOME FOOD, 2 1/2 stars. This place makes REALLY good food. Great prices, 1 star. Reasonably priced cheap food rocks.
Adalberto's is 5-star late night grub. -

A while back the former Mrs Me told me that I couldn't be a vegetarian for a few hours if I tired. I don't recall what got us on that conversation, but that was a challenge if I ever heard one.
To make a long story short, she ended up pleading I stop being a vegetarian because it was driving her nuts that I wasn't eating or trying the same foods she was any more. So after several months I ended my vegetarianism adventure with a Popeye's 3Pc meal with red beans and rice.
So what does that have to do with Adelberto's?
I had a vegetarian burrito here and it was great! -

Sacramento, CA
I like Aldabertos for burritos & tacos. The beans and rice are decent. Free chips and salsa are a plus. I personally wouldn't venture into the land of enchiladas here.
The fact that I'd rather eat here than any other 24 hour drive thru in Sacramento bumps it up from a 3 star to 4 star rating.
I can't believe people are complaining about how ghetto it is... hello, did you not notice you were in North Highlands further down Watt avenue?! -

I guess I am spoiled. Being from southern California originally I was brought up on really good authentic Mexican food. Adalbertos is ok but nothing to write home about. Kind of bland compared to real authentic Mexican.

I have been going to Adalberto's for years and have never been disappointed. I LOVE their breakfast burritos. They are huge! The bacon, egg, cheese and potato one is my fav and at $4.60. AWESOME! I have also had their Carnitas burrito and their Super Nachos. The Super Nachos are the best and again HUGE for the price. It's a grease pit but dammit I love that about this place.. OH OH AND the drive thru.. doesnt get better than this.

What is our purpose as humans?
We are a unique creation, sentient creatures aware of our own existence.
What is it that drives us to get out of bed in the morning?
We all live our lives seeking out something.
We're in pursuit of happiness.
Adalbertos is the answer to all of life's troubles.
Adalbertos is happiness in edible form. -

This is a place that we go to when we want to get takeout. Watt Ave in North Highlands is not a safe area to be in at night. We unfortunately live in the area and find that this restaurant is a safe bet.
I usually order the fish tacos. They are SO yummy. They can be made in a combo with rice and beans. This alone is enough to feed two people. The Horchata is delicious here as well. My husband usually orders a giant burrito. There are a lot of these restaurants around town, but this is the one we always go to. -

If you haven't had the California burrito GET IN YOUR CAR AND GO GET IT! (for all potato lovers...this burrito has some) And treat yourself to some churros while you're at it. This place is delicious and cheap.

Ok...this is another joint that's in the old "Hood". I've been here a few times but, now...I'm a foodie and I've gotta write my review. Never, really paid much attention to what I was getting here, just kinda ordered n scarfed it down. Not any more. Today, I ordered the carne asada fries. They were truely ...OFF THE HOOK! I just love to say that. Anyways, the meat had big flavor, loved the guac n sour cream, the skinny fries. I've always considered this a late night grub spot. Today, I opened my eyes and realized these guys are really puttin out the real deal.

I met the first guy I kissed here. He smelled like motor oil, and wore underpants with holographic graphics on them, and he tasted like Absolut Mandarin. GROSS.
Uh, good chips and salsa, and they'll give you a free soda if you're rockin' tits any bigger than an A cup.
I miss this greasy delight. Excellent burritos, and nachos. Their salsa is the chronic. Watch out if you use the bathroom. I have a feeling there's a gloryhole or peephole somewhere by the tp dispenser.
+1 star for being so close to the old porn theater, and allowing my 17 year old self to hit on a bevy of ghetto men. -

Sacramento, CA
Really disappointed with this Adalberto's.
Every time I go to one, I get the Nacho Fries with Carne Asda.
I had to make my order to go, but when I was ready to eat, I realized the fries where not fully cooked and still soggy in oil, and not crispy at all. What a bummer because I usually enjoy the them everywhere else. -
Review from Mymy N.
Freakin love this place! Usually I order the carne asada fries late at night through the 24 hour drive thru when I'm inebriated, however I had the pleasure to dine in during the day last week. The service was quick and the food came out piping hot. I ordered a chicken quesadilla from here for the first time and it was massive. One of the luxuries of dining-in is the endless supply of pico de gallo aka salsa which I smothered all over that quesadilla. It was so big, I took it home to eat for dinner! My friend also got an order of the carne asada fries to share and it was bomb. com. The carne asada here is seasoned hella well and it's so damn tasty! Also love the fact that they use skinny fries that hold it down and don't get all mushy and turn into mashed potatoes at the bottom of the container.
I don't know what they put in the food here, but I crave it about once a week. Come during the day and grab a booth early because seating fills up! Come through the drive-thru late at night and watch out for the drunk people who like to "walk-thru" and rub up on your car! (Long story)Listed in: Diamonds in the Rough

$0.29 Hamburger Stand anyone? Wait, that was nearly 20 years ago... replaced by the all powerful, all mighty Adalberto's!
Yum! I so love this place! When I come here I order one of three things:
Rolled Tacos with Guac and Cheese (every day special at $4)
Fish Tacos ($2 each... best I've ever had, even better than the ones I had in Mexico and San Diego!)
#12 Carne Asada Plate ($8, basically you get a huge tortilla, two huge slices of Carne Asada, and a Styrofoam build your own burrito set!)
Bring your own drinks... as they charge for refills and such, and may even charge you for a glass of water!
Just be warned that there are a grand total of 4 tables inside the lobby and 3 outside, which can get a little scary at night! Food is perfect and everything I expect from this place!
Don't forget to get chips from the all you can eat bar with all the fresh salsa...
Just writing this review at 3:30 in the morning makes me want to drive over there and get me some rolled tacos :-) -
Review from Ivy R.
What are you thinking Sacramento? This place is not good.
When the Enchilada Sauce is the same color as the red on your signage, its canned.
Canned Enchilada Sauce is my worst enemy!
I got the Chicken Chimichanga. Not to big not to small & automatically comes with a side of Sour Cream and Guacamole.
Flavorless Chicken, soggy crust on my Chimi, even in spots where the sauce didn't touch.
And Oh the Red Enchilada Sauce. Even the salsa had bareley any flavor.
My colleague ordered the Carnitas Burrito. I asked "Do they add any seasoning to the meat." He said not that you usually have to add their salsa to it. He didn't mind though he likes the taste of plain meat. Oh Jesus!
Speaking of Jesus, while sitting outside eating our lunch a giant SUV pulled into the drive through blasting Eazy-E. When he pulled away, blasting Eazy-E, and the giant sticker on his back window said "POWERED BY JESUS." I knew I was enjoying a stellar lunch right then and there.Listed in: Down In Mexicali, Eating Sacramento

There's nothing that says "North Highlands, CA. Welcome to the hood" like seeing Adalberto's when I'm driving up Watt! And there is nothing like carne asada fries @3am after the club to bring your BAC back down to legal limit.
I could be wrong but Adalberto's has to be THE ORIGINATOR of carne asada fries. I've tried them from about 5-6 other spots that serve it but nothing even comes close to Adalberto's. We were introduced almost 10 years ago and it's been a great relationship. My recent addiction is al pastor fries with bacon. I'll throw a California burrito into the rotation once in a while too. Who would have known French fries would go together with Mexican food so well? I admit I've only tried like 5 things on the menu but I just dont have the need to explore when its so damn good.
One of the few places I'm proud to bring my buddies to when they come up from the Bay. It's in my Top 10 places to eat here in Sac -
Review from Philip I.
The satiafaction of eating Carnitas Nachos after getting out the club at 2AM = PRICELESS. My buddy recently introduced me Al Pastor fries which became an instant fave.
Everything from the drive thru "Mayihelpyew" greeting to the custom orders to the quick service is 5 stars.
Forget Carolina's, Adanbertos, San Jose, etc. None compare to the Watt Ave. Adalbertos -

I only come here when Taqueria Lupita (across the street) is closed.
This is decent "chain mex" food....nothing to write home about.
I do agree their carnitas is really great.....4-5 stars for their shredded pork. -

Adalberto's does it again. I had the carnitas burrito which was awesome. A giant tortilla stuffed with excellent carnitas, tender yet crispy on the outside mingled with salsa fresca and buttery guac. I actually liked my food better here than at the other location that I've been to.
Would some genius please open an Adalberto's in San Francisco? -

Who in all of Sacramento does not love Adalberto's? Seriously. How many times have you been driving home from some club and you have craved either "rolled tacos" or that amazing "California burrito?" Anyone whom does not claim to like this place is obviously crazy.....everyone loves Adalberto's.

Vu C. got it right, this joint is ghetto. Its a run-down place where you usually get your food to go.
I used to come here when I first moved to the Sacramento region, being totally clueless about where to find decent Mexican food, I recognized the familiar name and decided to give it a try. At first my boyfriend and I would drive all the way here because we were addicted to their greasy-ass carne asada chips. I've never eaten anything so greasy in my life, but we were totally addicted. If you ever experience headaches or sickness from consuming too much oil this place is not for you. Their super burritos are average, heard the horchata was good, but thats about all I ate from here. -

I was looking for mexican food near my new apartment to try out.. I saw this reviews and give a try.. I order a cheese enchilada and to eat inside.. I notice my cheese just cold sheddar.. Are they expect it suppose to melt after red sauce? I was disappointed, and talk to man to get my refund.. I will never come back with food half uncook at all. I dont get it why everyone is happy with their foods.

Whenever mexican food is suggested for a meal, I am usually hesitant unless it is a non-commercialized place such as this one. After a trip to lake tahoe, my boyfriend and I stayed in Sacramento with a couple of friends. I was craving some really, really, really good mexican food and our friends knew of the perfect place!
Adalberto's is as hole in the wall mexican food as it gets and I wouldn't have it any other way! Spending a good day at the lake left us all famished so we each decided get something different and share it. Oh man was that a good idea! This place has by far the best carne asada fries I've tasted. There is no doubt in my mind that the better this food tasted, the worse it was healthwise. Don't worry! This meal occured during my cheat day. The food is priced reasonably and portions are ridiculously big.
I highly recommend going through drive thru because the establishment itself is pretty small. -

This place is a go-to when you are drunk and it is practically proven that it will cure any hangover. The California burrito is seriously delicious, though I'm sure it is a bazillion calories. And the breakfast burritos! Yum!
Whatever, I miss living across the street from this place. -
Review from Tara W.
Sacramento, CA
Adalberto knows me, and he knows how to tempt me when I'm at my most vulnerable. After many an exhausting day at work, I've dragged myself across the street to him and set up camp. And seriously, they do know me by now. I'm sure they have a name for me, like maybe "that tired white girl who drinks horchata like it's water and talks to herself."
The chile relleno burrito is my favorite, but woman can not live on chile relleno burritos alone, especially if woman does not wish to become a cerdo. Although....nothing in this joint is exactly diet food. Ah well.
The veggie burrito is also delicious, as are the nachos. And so cheap! My burrito and horchata never cost more than six dollars or so.
The only complaint I really have is that I've found little rogue bits of chicken at the bottom of my burrito before....not something that someone who doesn't eat chicken necessarily enjoys. But whatever; I mean, it's not like I'm going to call a superlawyer or anything. -

Sacramento, CA
It's still insanely good after three more months of eating here. I recently tried the chorizo potato breakfast burrito and the california burrito. Neither are as filling as the massive super carne asada burrito, but they are mighty tasty. Pour a little green salsa on both and they taste even better, if that's even possible.
I don't care if it's in a somewhat shady area or it doesn't look that great "from the outside", I will definitely go out of my way to satisfy my Adalberto's cravings.1 Previous Review: Show all »

Love the Super Burrito, Carne Asada. This location is the only one I have found that doesn't pad the burrito with lettuce, it's an all-meat carnivore's dream. You can never go wrong with the Carne Asada fries and the California Burrito either. Everything I have tried at this location has been 4-5 stars worth, love it. It's an addiction, I'm almost glad I moved out of the area, but I still find myself wandering to the Watt location, even though the Madison one is closer.

I used to live around there when Berto's was originally replacing some generic hamburger place. I've long since been a fan of the rolled tacos with guac and cheese but have been converted to the California burrito cult. Oh man, this stuff is so terrible for you, but irresistible at the same time.

my addiction has not ended. i eat here AT LEAST 4x a week. i seriously don't know how i lived without carne asada fries in my life. they're truly magical.
my bf&i were coming back from the i am music tour last night (shoutout to weezy!) around midnight when we knewww we needed a fix! he was drunk&starving (it happens) so we pulled up but the inside was closed. what? no chips&salsa?! he walked up to the doors&banged&... they let us inside!
"the regular?" the guy in the red hat asked.
"YES!"
"you want some chips too?"
"YES!"
"and pico de gallo?"
"YES!"
he probably could've asked us to marry him&both of us would've fought over who could be first.
i love addy's. i love it so much i call it addy's&no one knows what i'm talking about. it's like my little secret. i wish i could live in their bathrooms&get free food in exchange for scaring people who need to pee.1 Previous Review: Show all »

Foget Denny's/ihop this is the #1 spot after a night of partying. Of course not the best Mexican food, but beats anything you can get in 5minutes. Like Jeff. B said, anything on the menu is fairly good. What stands out to me is the California Burrito and Quesadilla with an Horchata drink.

Review from Vinz C.
Sacramento, CA
If this was a few weeks ago they would be getting 4 or 5 stars. However, it's not, and my last experience was very pitiful.
I guess you could say I'm a regular here. This is the closest Adalberto's to Natomas, so I would actually drive all the way out here just to get a California burrito since they are considered one of the best. I've been going here regularly since the Fall of 2007, so it's gotten to the point where the guys behind the counter know my order as soon as I walk in. I tend to be a boring person and don't switch it up.
Well my last experience, and will probably be my actual last since I can't justify driving all the way out there after this, was terrible. I ordered my usual - two California burritos with sour cream - and the guy who always takes my orders still wrote it down and gave it to the cooks.
Given I've NEVER had a bad experience in my almost two years of going here every Saturday night, why should this have been any different? I get home, sink my teeth in to the burrito, and all I taste is Guacamole. I nearly vomited since I find avocados and gauc both absolutely disgusting. It just overpowers the whole thing and you can't taste anything else. I opened the burrito and it there were no french fries in it at all. Hell, there wasn't even any cheese! It looked like a stripped down Carne Asada Burrito with just meat and guac. Now that's gross. I didn't drive all the way out there, pay the $12, just to toss it out in the garbage. It was inedible to me. Well I did. I did attempt to have it reconciled but the guy behind the counter refused to make me new burritos (WTF? They screwed up!) saying that's what I ordered.
Funny since I've ordered the same freaking thing every week for nearly 2 years. Yeah. That was it for me. No more late night drives down the ghetto of Watt with all the hookers and gangsters rollin' by on 22s with their systems bouncin'. I think I'll try and find something more local.. it's just a shame because I haven't been able to find a place that replicates their perfection.
I'd recommend them, but man, now I'd recommend checking your order before you leave. Maybe you'll have better luck.
BEST CALIFORNIA BURRITOS IN SACRAMENTO THOUGH!
