Review from Ryan L.
San Francisco, CA
This a Bed and Breakfast located on a quiet street a few blocks from downtown St. Helena. We picked the location so we could walk to dinner and stumble home afterward. We spent two nights in the Prelude Suite (the one with a private deck and hot tub). We thoroughly enjoyed it. The house is beautiful. The place is clean. The bed was big and comfy with quality linens. There's a common/living room with a fireplace and piano. There's also a nice wrap around porch.
The breakfasts were delicious. Each one was started with a fruit themed appetizer. One morning was a sliced grapefruit with a berry sauce, the other was pear with cream cheese and honey spread and fresh berries. The main course on day one was a asparagus and gruyere omlette, Niman Ranch bacon and a warm almond croissant. The second day was ham-wrapped quiche like things, local bread, melon and croissant. The hostess is accommodating to your dietary neurosis (my companion eats no meat). Quality coffee and tea were also served along with fresh orange juice.
In the evening we were served wine and cheese. One night there was a tasty goat-cheese and sweet-peppery concoction and the other was a spicy artichoke spread. There was also another cheese choice and crackers, grapes, etc. One night was warm and we had it on the wrap around porch. The other we had it in the living room in front of the fire place.
The hostess is friendly, knowledgeable and accommodating. She checked in about dietary restrictions, times we were going to want breakfast or evening wine, etc. She also recommended some wineries and restaurants to check out. She provides turn down service (even offered for our afternoon nap).
We would definitely come back!

History
Established in 1970
The home was built in 1890, and converted to a Bed and Breakfast in 1970 when the then owner had the house raised up and a first floor built underneath. (This can only be accomplished with a frame house). The main portion of the house is upstairs, where a large kitchen, parlor, and two large bedroom suites are located, along with three bathrooms. The staircase up to the second floor finds you on a wonderful old New England type wrap around porch with comfortable chairs and rockers.
The first floor has the third guest suite in the front, and the owner's apartment in the rear. The private entrance of this guest suite brings you into a very large, kingly room, that people love, especially the men.
The entire Inn has been furnished with Horchow products that are large and elegant and comfortable!
Kearney Street, is just three blocks long, and has been home to many of St. Helena's mayors and council members over the years, and currently our U.S Congressman lives two doors down.
Meet the Business Owner: Polly K.
I have been a corporate business woman for 30 years with a financial MBA, and worked at GE, Hershey Foods, Friendly Ice Cream Corporation and IBM, primarily in marketing and finance. My most recent position was at Columbia University School of Nursing in NYC, as associate dean of students. When that ended, I decided I had one good job left in me before retiring, and here I am in California, owning and innkeeping a B&B.
I love having made this change, it suits me!
Fortunately, being from the East all my life, I do have a daughter here in San Francisco, who adds to my life a great deal. My son and teeny granchildren are in Boston however, as are my longtime friends - this makes living here a bit bit more difficult.
I love what I do, and expect to do it until I tire....
