Review from Kat C.
New York, NY
I will never find another Nail Tech like I had 20 years ago. Closest I've found is Ada.
I have had Shellac, OPI Gel and now Gelish manicures here and find the price and standard very good.
The girls are very sweet. There's not lots of talking in Mandarin etc. between the girls.
This always makes me feel uncomfortable (think of the Seinfeld ep. with Elanie!)
Would recommend manicures and massage. -

I had booked a massage last minute and hadn't really thought to check reviews since it was recommended on the Spa Week website. I wish I had checked because I was surprised to find a nail salon with a "spa" in the basement when I arrived. This was not by any means the luxury environment I imagined based on the photos on their website.
I went down to the basement which wasn't "relaxing dark" but more like dank and dirty. I was escorted to the room which was cramped with exposed pipes on the ceiling. Those pipes or something in the room would prove to be a distraction throughout the massage as there was loud clanking noises and an air conditioning system turning on and off.
If the massage were amazing all of that would be overlooked however the massage was the most painful and uncomfortable I've ever experienced. I asked the masseuse to reduce the amount of pressure she was using several times and each time she continued to return to digging into my back. I thought my body's twinging reaction to this discomfort may make a difference but it did not. It goes without saying I was disappointed in the atmosphere and the environment and would not recommend this establishment. -

I went to Ada in October to use a Spa week certificate on a massage. I was a little skeptical when I first walked in because it looked like the "run of the mill" nail salons you see all over New York, but once I was taken downstairs, I was brought to a serene spa area with private rooms for various services, I assume. Overall, the masseuse did a very good job and was very professional. He made sure I was not in pain throughout the process. I will probably go back here again.

Came here for a Brazilian using my Lifebooker loot. She did a good job and didn't double dip for me. I don't know about the papaya salve but she did rub me down with something afterwards and tweezed too. I was quite clean but it did take the good part of a half hour...after being accustomed to 7min Brazilians, this was a bit much to bear.
Can't complain too much, it was pretty inexpensive and they were very friendly and we chatted in Chinese. -

This is more of a nail salon than massage spa. The waiting area is nice although a little out of place. Its downstairs from the salon and right outside the massage rooms, so you feel like your in limbo. But they decorated this area to their best to make you feel like you can relax there with couches, magazines, tea and treats.
The massage was good, we definitely had no complaints here. My husband and I went for spa week last year and had a couples massage and he enjoyed it as well. They only had a drape seperating us, the room had the massage like ambiance with relaxing music. The place also looked very clean which was a big plus. For a quick massage this place is a great place. But if your going for the spa, relaxation, white robe, steam room feel then you may want to keep looking. Overall Id say 3 stars because the massage was great, the place was clean, the employees were nice. But I was definitely looking for more of a spa massage relaxation ambiance. -

Got a lifebooker deal for a brazilian. It was my first time. I was very nervous and the esthetician was quite nice.Though I wanted to slap her after she told me to relax the fourth time
She did not double dip but there was no papaya extract or painless waxing as the website boasted. I know getting hair ripped out cannot, possibly, be painless. The waxing was not painless bt neither was it scream worthy. It was ok, not that bad.
She also did not wax the back part, she only slapped some oil on and told me it was done.
I had to waddle to the bathroom to clean up wax residues, I found specks of blood on the tissue. I dont know if this normal.
The experience was not that bad but not good enough to go back.
I feel good today (a day later) no burning, itching or pain. So I survived. -

Another thoughtful treat from an awesome co-worker :)
I got a gel mani and regular pedi at Ada with a few of my team members. Pretty sweet as we were able to eat while getting our toes painted and chat while getting our nails done. I'm now a believer of gel manicures! It's been almost been two weeks and my "Strawberry Margarita" nails are still intact. Too bad my nails grow freakishly fast - I probably won't make it to the 3rd week as expected.

I love them. And not just like a "oh yeah, they're great" kinda love. The stop-people-on-the-street-you-look-like-you-need-a -pedi kinda love.
They are so nice, I could cry.
I walked in with a serious situation on my hands (literally) following my visit to yuya down the block. They were patient and kind and did everything they could to salvage the crapshoot of a job that was previously inflicted upon me.
I wasn't prepared for their thoroughness and they rushed for me to meet my fiance uptown with no complaint or frustration with my time management issues (more than I can say for my fiance). My nails lasted twice as long as they would have elsewhere, my only complaint is the pricing. I have actually opted to change my nail regimen so I can afford to continue going here.
Other notes- super clean! instruments, work stations, people.. and bathroom! huge, gorgeous, clean bathroom!
Ada, your goodwill and clear english are enough to keep me coming back until the recession destroys me. -

Yay for another new spa in Tribeca! Sparkling clean, well-sized (6 chairs?), and a great selection of magazines. I had a pedicure and a wax during its opening week (they were offering 20% off services). Linda is a trained aesthetician, and was friendly and very professional. A new, disposable emery board was used for my nails, and fresh sticks were used for each wax application. The wax was impeccable. Prices are avg to exp for a "nail spa", but you get what you pay for.
I moved from Boston (nails- Lauren's; wax- Violet) a year ago and still had not found a suitable place to be a regular at - I think Ada is the winner!
n.b. don't think their website has actually been set up yet, but it is printed on their business cards. -

I did not actually get to use any of the services here, I called before I went in and then I went in and I was extremely disappointed because no one could tell me anything about their services.
The first time I called I was placed on hold and then the call allegedly dropped, when I called back they told me to just come in or they would have someone call me back about my questions....WTF....Weird
So I decided to stop by, maybe they were just busy and to short handed to help me...still wtf!!! I stop in and got the same treatment but discovered that they were not busy at all!!! -

New York, NY
I bought a deal for a brazilian wax through lifebooker. The description is that use special wax for sensitivity, papaya salves for ingrown hairs and that they don't double dip.
Well, it turns out they DO DOUBLE DIP! There is no papaya salve, and they left a lot of hair behind...and I mean a lot! They also charge an extra 5 bucks to do the butt (which is standard with every other brazilian I've had).
The waxer was sweet; at first I was impressed with how quick she was (in and out in 15 mins) but then I saw how much hair was left behind...
Even if they stop double dipping after this review, all their wax has been contaminated by now by all the double dipping. I'm really not a germaphobe- but getting your lady parts waxed with wax that has touched 100s of other vaginas is really gross.... I'm not an expert but that seems like a recipe for infection or maybe even an STD.
I told the waxer at the end (when she was asking about how to promote herself) that most people prefer a wax with a new stick for each dip. She said "I know...A new dipper for each part" and then left the room. Okay...? But you used one stick for my entire wax...
Don't go here for a sanitary brazilian; or if you want to actually remove all the hair. -

After a really horrible last few weeks, I was looking for a nice fluffy spa experience without having to pay a ton of money and that's pretty much exactly what I got! The nice part is that they have a promotion on their website where first-time customers can get one of a number of services for $59. I went with the signature massage, which I think is normally $75.
Also, if you go to their website, they have online booking, but when I used the online system, I ended up calling the next morning because I hadn't heard anything in response. When I did call, though, the receptionist knew exactly who I was from my online request and it sounded like she had meant to call me right about when I called her (and I don't think she was BSing me). Anyway I still got my first choice of appointment time with c. 24 hours' notice, which was reeeally nice. Also, it looks like they have some massage chairs upstairs so they probably do chair massages too, which is worth noting.
The rooms are in a downstairs section of the salon, which gets you away from the bright lights and high turnover of the nail section, and aside from the occasional footfalls (I think the employee locker room or something must be down there as well), it is remarkably quiet. It's also very nice, aesthetically--it doesn't feel like a basement at all. The table isn't high-end but the linens are nice and smell AMAZING, and the whole ambiance of the room is incredibly comfortable and relaxing.
I don't know how many masseuses they have on staff, but I would HIGHLY recommend Amy. She is very detail-oriented, even insisted on changing the already-clean sheets because one of them had a stain (allegedly, because I am blind as a bat and couldn't see it) that hadn't come out in the wash. And the massage was amazing--productive (I have long-term muscle problems in my back and could definitely feel the difference) but also incredibly relaxing, and I think that's a rare combination; massages for me are either relaxing and unproductive, or deep-tissue-borderline-painful and not at all relaxing! Also, the signature massage includes 10 minutes of hot stone massage, which is heaven in and of itself. There was no rush, everything was very relaxed and lovely.
I will definitely be back. Not as often, because it's slightly more expensive than, say, Samsun, but when I want to be spoiled rotten for an hour I will be here, for sure. -
Review from Amy C.
I selected Ada Spa to try out for this Spring's Spa Week. I went for the 55-min long Signature Massage which the lady on the phone described to me as a combination of Swedish and hot stone. The actual massage was a combination of Swedish, hot stone, Thai, and reflexology. My therapist was Steven who was very thorough but failed at working out all the kinks in my shoulders (my usual problem areas).
The spa itself is very small with a nail salon on the first floor and massage rooms in the basement. If you're looking for a relaxing mani-pedi session at a quiet salon--this is NOT the place. The first floor was full of chatter and noise as we walked through to get to the stairs, and on my way out I even had to maneuver around kids and carriages. The basement has three lounge chairs and two padded chairs but the room fills up quickly. The walls are also extremely thin so I could hear all the noise outside during my massage.
Besides all the noise, the spa is very clean and prices are reasonable for the area. I would recommend making an appointment on a weekday when the spa might not be as busy and crowded. -

Great for manis and pedis... One of the best places I have gone to in NYC... Massage not the best, but still affordable. This place is real close to where I live, so I also value the easy access, I probably would not coem crosstown for it.
I mist say that their customer service is amazing! -

I'm so disappointed with my experience today that I felt the need to warn other people. This is like a nail factory -- rush people into chairs and then rush them right out. The pedicure looks nice -- but it was over in a blink. The nail on my big toe was so uneven because of her rapid speed that I had to stop her, to which she rolled her eyes and corrected the mistake.
I chose a nice, vibrant yellow for my manicure but it looks plain awful. The color is also uneven -- it begins at all different points near my cuticle. And the polish has bubbles on four nails, which I didn't notice until I got on the subway going home. It looks just like a sloppy, cheap manicure. And for the higher pricectag (the mon-wed price is actually $30 and some change, once you add in tax) than the other shops around, you're getting the same quality. -

My colleague and I walked in one Monday lunch-hour recently for a quick manicure, and the ladies here were lovely, welcoming and friendly. We were seated immediately, and left to chat while our manicurists did their magic.
We had the Mon-Tue special, which was $10.80 for a fantastic manicure - gotta love that! I will definitely be back. -

Sometimes you need a bit more pampering when you're getting a mani-pedi. Sometimes you're in Tribeca. Go to Ada Nails & Spa. Your nails will look fabulous and the nail technicians will take their time. The spa is very clean. In the world of mani-pedis, there is the "cheap weekly", and the "excellent expensive." This is the latter. Sometimes it must be done. Also note that if you spend $2 for the VIP card you get indefinite use of quickdry topcoat and other goodies (irritating but worth it if you plan to return).

Randomly one of the Sunday afternoon, I found this spot near Chamber St, I walked in with full of curiosity for waxing. This is my very first time, the waxing person was gentle and quick, within 15 mins, it was done. Normally, I would get a little irritation from chemicals on my skin, but it was pretty soft and smooth, even after couple days after the waxing. The place was quiet and soothing. I can't wait to go there again next time. :)

I booked a hot stone massage for spa week. I'm usually apprehensive about these "nail salon spas" and was initially nervous when I walked in and saw nothing but ladies getting mani/pedi's.
But I was immediately escorted downstairs to their spa area...another world actually. Very nicely decorated, serene and very clean, I began to smile a bit.
I was then asked if I any objections to a male therapists (I dont discriminate) who is also a licensed physical therapist....and I soon learned he's the master w/his hands! Wow...Stephen was awesome! It was like a hot stone/reflexology/chiro massage, he stretched & rubbed me like no other. He was attentive to tolerance, patient and oh so thorough. I was so impressed and felt so good that I even fell asleep. I wanted to cry when he was done and actually hugged him on the way out...which by the way I was so relaxed I could barely walk when I left.
Prices are very reasonable and I will def be headed back there soon. Get a massage at Ada and let Stephen take you away.... -

RUDEST FRONT DESK PERSON EVER. I got a Brazilian wax here, and I did think wax itself was good (no ingrowns for the first time ever; HOWEVER, they said they would require an additional fee to do the "back"--which means it isn't really a Brazilian wax), but the technician was nice. Whoever answers the phone here is one of the rudest people I've ever interacted with for a service business like this. I don't know what her problem is but if I hadn't already paid for the services I would definitely look for somewhere else to go where they know what customer service means.

I went with a friend during spa week and received the full body signature 60 min massage for only $52. My friend got the same package, which I didn't know included a foot massage until I saw her getting it. My masseuse must've left mine out because I came so late lol. Either way, it was a great experience. The staff was friendly and very accomodating. The place was clean. The massage was great and, of course, very relaxing. I can't wait to go again!

I went to Ada Spa for the first time last night (Wed. evening). I picked Ada because of the reviews on yelp and the location. I was looking for a reasonable priced, clean place as my new nails go to place.
I made an appointment for 6:30 for a manicure and pedicure and got there at 6:25.
Right after checking in they took my coat and told me to pick a color. I felt a little rushed in picking a color. I was asked 3 times if I had picked my color yet- and it's not like I spent 5min looking at the colors, it was maybe like 2min- mainly bc I had never been there before and didn't see my usual color picks. Anyway, I ended up just taking a few colors w me to the pedicure chair bc I felt rushed and was still uncertain.
My pedicure started at 6:30.
and I was in the drying chair at 7:01.
no joke.
It took the girl 30min to do my manicure and pedicure.
I have had many mani/pedis before (at fancy spas and more casual places) and never in my life had both a manicure and pedicure done in under 30min unless it was one of those quick mini mani/pedi lunchtime ones which are supposed to be fast.
My toes came out ok but my fingers looked like I painted them myself.
Anyway, I was prompted to write this review because of something that was said to me earlier today- We got to leave work early bc of the weather and one of my co-workers suggested I take advantage of the time and treat myself to a mani/pedi. I felt so embarressed...I wanted to be like umm I actually got a manicure last night. (was wearing boots so couldnt see my toes).
The place was clean. and totally packed (every chair was filled for both manicures and pedicures) so maybe the girl that did my nails was just in a rush? She did give someone a massage immediately after sending me to the drying station at 7pm.
But I called Saturday to make my wed apt- so it's not like I asked them to squeeze me in 'last minute or something.
I really wanted to like this place but was dissapointed.
PS- the girl that did my nails said I had to pay my tip in cash. -

I decided to try Ada, conveniently located on my walk home. While the polish looked good, I get a pedicure, because generally.... they do a better job than i can on my tootsies. Not in this case... I don't have the worst feet, but I walked out not looking like I have just gotten a pedicure. May have been the individual, I will probably give it a second shot due to convenience, but not remotely close to Stone Nails!

eh this place is only OK. it's clean and the employees are very friendly, but I thought my pedicure was a bit lacking. Could have been neater, and it would have been nice if they used moisture (I thought all nail salons do??). My nails just don't look like they've gotten a fresh service!
The prices are slightly high but not much more so than the average for the neighborhood, but I agree with MP that the pedicure was only average and thus felt over-priced. However, the cheapest pedicure is not $43, it's $25 (the basic pedicure).
I wouldn't go back. -

Just moved to the neighborhood from UWS and was in search of a new nail salon. I checked out places on yelp and decided to give Ada a chance. Honestly, this is one of the worst experiences I have ever had. I got a gel manicure (usually lasts me 2 weeks) it peeled off later that night! I told the girl who did my nails (Sunny?) that it was bubbling and clumpy. She attempted to file them and had a serious attitude with me. She said to me, "Oh...you aren't from around here...this is how we do gel manicures in NYC". I grew up in NYC and have been getting gel manicures for years! She was nasty! Seriously...what a waste of time and money!!! I am not one to complain...but this place is terrible. Never going back.

If you want a simple manicure and/or pedicure, this place is one of the best nail salons I have been to. The manicures last almost a full week (somehow mine never last more than 2-3 days) and the salon is clean, ambiant, and pleasant. The price is quite reasonable, especially M-W when mani/pedi runs under $30.

I went to Ada Spa to have eyelash tinting done as I have the dreaded invisible blonde eyelashes. I was hesistant because I've tried to do this about 4 times at different places with variable results, mostly bad, even at high end places. Often times, they get the darn stuff in my eyes or they get the stuff they use to keep your skin from getting dyed in my eyes. This was one of the best jobs I've had. Nancy was the employee that applied the dye and she did a great job. I will definitely be coming back to her on a regular basis.

New York, NY
I love this place! There are other nail salons a bit nearer to my apartment but I'll go the extra 5 blocks just to come here. The staff is always amazingly nice and polite. I love the fact that they use new emery boards and files on every client and the place is always very clean and doesn't have that awful florescent lighting that a lot of other nail salons do. I recently went for a pedi and was pleasantly surprised to find that they've added a paraffin heel treatment to the pedicures at no additional cost. My heels felt sooooo smooth afterward. Linda is great at waxing and Steven gives the best foot massages during the pedi. They're always very accommodating if you have special requests (e.g., a 3rd coat) and if you smudged your nails, they'll go out of their way to fix it for you with a smile. The rewards card is great too as the cost savings become significant after a while. Never had a bad experience here and would highly recommend it.

The best salon below Canal Street. Linda is the best for waxing. Steven is like a magician masseuse. Every manicure/pedicure I ever got there has been top notch. The membership (one time charge of $2) is full of benefits. Every so often I'll got to pay and I end up with a $5 or $10 credit. The packages are a great value and they are always stepping up their service. Now they offer paraffin heel treatment standard as part of the pedicure. Can't say enough about this place. If you wrote a negative review, your standards are better suited for a high priced snooty salon. Give Ada another shot, the place is spotless and the service is quality and quick.

This isn't my first choice but it will do in a pinch. In general it's fine, but a couple times I've gone and my color chipped, and then my nails started flaking and splitting...so not ideal. Another time, I got a pedicure and they had run out of hot water, so dunk! I was plunged into cold water in December and that was NOT pleasant. But they're friendly, clean and in general not bad.

Just go for the Deep Tissue.. Dam they hurt you so bad but it'll leave you feeling so good. Went for the $50/55 mins. special during spa week, they threw in 5mins of hot stone massage and 5mins of hand/foot reflexology along with the deep tissue work. I felt the effects of the massage even after 2 days, very well worth it..

Seriously the nicest, most efficient, high quality nail place I've ever visited while traveling. I happened to be staying next door and dropped by for a pedicure with moderate expectations. I ended up getting a mani/ pedi and massage (amazing). The girls were friendly, fun and not pushy. I was missing half a fingernail due to an accident and they made it look like new! I cant say enough about this place -- the service is excellent and the prices are reasonable. Whenever I'm back in NY I will visit Ada.

Ada spa is the best spa in Tribeca, downtown. The place is beautiful and service is excellent. They provide hot wax for pedicures which is great for winter season. For manicures, they use sweet scrub to soothe and soften your hands which other salon dont do normally.I love this place and strongly recommend all beauty lovers to try this place. The receptionist is so sweet there, always patient and helpful. The staff are very professional and polite.
I also want to say they do great waxing job there, the most least painful bikini wax I never ever got entire of my life,I appreciate it.Linda does the best waxing job.I also tried the hot stone deep tissue massage with steven during the spa week in April, that was amazing,I was about to cry.Steven is a very professional massage therapist that knows what problems I have. After the massage,I could sleep like a angel.Steven is the best of best on body massage,he is more like a doctor to help release the pain and tightness of your muscles.
Ada spa is a great place.I love it,and you will too.
