This spa is very relaxing. Everyone keeps their voices down so that you don't hear laughter or talking while trying to relax.

The lights are kept dim throughout most of the spa and there are sound machines everywhere. It was a little chilly inside though. Since I was stripping down to my undies, I wished it was just a tad warmer.

The room where I had my Swedish Massage was well decorated and dimly lit. It was very relaxing and I really enjoyed my massage.

The reception girl when I arrived was very friendly. The reception girl when I left wasn't as friendly. Was it because I was leaving and no longer needed to be swayed?

They offer water to clients but I wish they offered something a little fancier. Some herbal teas or cucumber water would have been nice. Most spas I have been to offer something other than water. Just sayin'

Even though the spa was in a busy complex and there were several other patrons getting facials and massages, I barely noticed. Inside the spa it is tranquil as can be.

Overall, it was an enjoyable experience. I live a bit far away but I would definitely consider coming back for a massage, facial or some acupuncture. The prices are definitely reasonable.

    The Short:
I had Miriam for a facial & back facial with the acne treatment.  The first thing she did was mandate that I close my eyes and relax!  Price was okay.

    The Long:
So, I called and they were able to get me an appt in an hour.  I got directions & parking info in that call too (I would have probably gotten a ticket if the receptionist didn't tell me).  I walked in to a nice, calming environment.  First thing I got was a hand parrafin (the hot waxy thing).  Once I got in the room, Miriam asked me a series of questions like what medications I'm on (really important!) & how my skin reacts to facials.  I was so comfortable that I think I fell asleep.  Miriam was very thorough scanning my skin during extractions.  She put various things on my face & back & gave me a few tips on how to avoid getting bacteria in my pores.

Afterward, she told me to take my time getting dressed.  I snuck into the bathroom after I was dressed and Miriam was waiting patiently down the hall with water.  The best part: ABSOLUTELY no pressure to buy anything at the front!  Don't you hate when your therapist comes to "recommend" everything she used?  None of that!  They do sell Dermalogica though, if you need to re-stock.  Overall, great.

Facial with Miriam - After researching several Pasadena area spas for facials, I decided upon AcuSpa based on their facial offerings.  The spa itself is small, but peaceful and cozy.

This is the best facial I've EVER had.  I left feeling simultaneously relaxed and rejuvenated, and my skin responded very well!  I have been researching and experimenting with various anti-aging products.  Anyone who's done this knows that you often have to spend quite a bit before you find the treatments that work for you.  Fortunately, Miriam was very professional and knowledgeable.  She queried me on my current treatments/regime/lifestyle, and answered my questions about some of my products, too.

I received a second facial that lived up to the positive experience I had the first time.

I'm just reviewing the playboy wax services on this one, and I wish I could've gotten 5 star service, but damn, it was not good.

I didn't catch the name of the waxer because she had a thick accent, but if it's Alexandra (who has gotten good reviews on here), then I don't know what you other women are thinking.

First of all, I have TONS of broken hairs that are growing out as we speak (2 days after treatment).  Also, she doesn't pull the skin taut when she's taking off the wax.  It seemed like she was afraid to touch me, to be honest.  After the first PAINFUL pulled fat/skin incident, I started pulling my own skin taut.  I have a very high pain tolerance, especially with waxing, but this was the nearest I've come to wanting to cry.  You gotta get IN there and not be afraid!  I need to go back to my middle-aged Middle Eastern waxers--they don't care if they're grabbing your ass, they will contort your legs and pull your skin taut.

Another thing, she did NOT understand what a playboy wax was.  What seasoned waxer doesn't?  I'm giving her two stars just because she got the job done, albeit messily, and was nice.

Edit:  Just read a review way down at the bottom of the page and saw that Alexandra left a while back.  NO WONDER!!!  Ugh...

Acuspa used to be my go-to spot for my monthly waxing.  Despite the popular results, actually going through the act is NOT fun.  But my girl Alexandra somehow made it only moderately painful, she was a doll, and she always made sure not to leave anything behind.

I say "was" because back in December I called to make an appointment before hubby and I left for our Southern Caribbean cruise.  I was informed that Alexandra had left and, "No, I'm sorry, I don't know where she's gone."  (AKA, "I know where she is but I'm not going to tell you.")  So I took their very kind offer of a discount if I'd care to try one of their other specialists.  Unfortunately, I cannot remember her name.  What I DO remember is that it was awkward, painful, and unsanitary! She used the same dip stick every time (which goes way beyond double-dipping)!  EW!!  Unfortunately, I did not have the cajones to say anything (I won't ever let that happen again though, believe me!)  So I left quietly after paying my tab, silently vowing not to return.

I finally paid a visit to AcuSpa last week after reading all the good reviews on here.  The place is meh... it's located on the second floor of a somewhat rundown indoor mall/plaza.  The parlor itself is very small with a tight entrance.  The staffs (for the most part) were friendly, their prices are average, and the massage was decent.

The two things that bothered me were, firstly, my masseuse kept having the sniffles the entire time.  I didn't say anything, and it took her at least half an hour of more sniffles to finally tell me that it was her allergy that kicked in.  Secondly, when I was paying at the front desk, the gentlemen behind the counter (who I think is either the owner or the store manager) had his eyes basically fixed on the credit card printout, staring at how much I was going to tip....... baddd customer service!!

Aside from the two dislikes above, I don't think I would still return.  The place is not too welcoming nor do I think the massage was all that great.

    Grade: A

I used to drive out to Pasadena to hold trainings for new employees, so I'd always try to squeeze in a trip to Acuspa for brazilian and eyebrow waxes. My favorite aesthetician is Alexandra. She uses soft blue wax and everytime I come away, I am completely happy with the job. She makes it pretty painless too. She also shapes brows very well. I'm sad that I don't live closer to Pasadena, as I can't get out there anymore.

Their prices are very reasonable. It is a smaller, quaint spa, so don't expect Burke Williams or La Costa (not even close to these types of luxurious spas). I haven't used any of their other facilities (showers, restrooms, etc), and I haven't done any other services (massages, facials), so this review is only for waxings and specifically through my aesthetician.

Unfortunately, I never had the time to get facials or massages through Acuspa. When my aesthetician ran late with another client (who came late), they gave me a paraffin wrap while I waited. Nice way to calm the angst.

The downfalls:  sometimes, there isn't anyone at the front to help you. They don't always pick up their calls.

Highly recommended for waxes through Alexandra.

AcuSpa runs a massage school, so if the timing is right you can get a student massage for $35 here.  Yeah it's not as good as the experienced therapists, but it's a $35 massage.

Also, Alex the Esthetician is magical.  She is a superb waxer (my bikini wax was the least painful experience I've ever had) and gives the most meticulous facials.  The extractions hurt but my clear face was well worth it.

Everything in life that seems hurried and stressful gets wiped away when I walk through AcuSpa's doors.  Kevin is a phenomenal acupuncture and massage therapist.  The BEST treatment is the acussage where he does both!

I'm kind of a spa whore and this place is great.  sure, there's no "locker room" experience, but really, you won't miss it.

The office was supposed to open at 8am and my appointment was 9am. So, I figured I'd get there at about 8:45ish and did so, but only to find that no one was there!
When they finally all filed in it took about a minute for anyone to even acknowledge me.
    Hmmm...not the best start.

Now, the facility itself is nice and intimate. The massage was one of the better massages I've had in awhile (as evidenced by my coming in and out of consciousness during).
The initial greeting wasn't such a turn-off after the amazing massage-- and suddenly everyone was super attentive and friendly.
So, although a good experience, my only gripe is that I paid almost twice what I usually do for a one hour Swedish.  I can almost understand that if you're a full-on spa that can accommodate your hanging out all day pretending to be someone important-- but they don't have that here, hence the 4 stars...

Acuspa is one of those hidden Pasadena gems.  When you walk in, you already start relaxing with its decor and setting.

I usually have a foot massage, about once every few months.  I don't necessarily like massages, since I'm ticklish and afraid of pain. . . .But they do a good job in understanding what you like and can take, as well as what is good for you.  There are the cheap Chinese Massages in San Gabriel, but Acuspa provides quality service.  The cheap Chinese Massages feel dirty and are often crowded.. . .

I have sent a few friends to Acuspa, and a few of them are now regulars.  They like the Cosmetic Chinese Facials.  I've had the student massages and they are great, too.

In addition, Kevin, being a licensed Acupuncture practitioner, has helped me with a couple of ailments as well.

I was looking for a good place for massage after I got rear-ended by a car. Acuspa got a good rating and therefore I made an appointment immediately.

The front desk people were really nice and welcoming. The waiting area was decorated nicely with some interesting books.. including feng shui and Chinese horoscopes.. I have been to this place for massage twice and have to say that, like most spa, the quality of your experiences are greatly dependent of the masseuse. Both times I asked for deep tissue massage. The first time, after the massage, I felt like a new person and all my aches were gone. It was quite addicting and so I went for a second time. This time it was with another masseuse and ... my whole body was covered with massage oil and I did not get the same quality massage I had the first time...

All in all, this is a very pleasant and clean place. If you happened to have a friend who knows the name of all the good masseuses, do ask!

Come check this place out, located right in Downtown Pasadena on Lake Avenue.  They have all types of massages from there professionals who do a great job.  Also they also have a massage school that teaches a program fit or a massage therapist.  For all you people who want to save money, ask about the student massages they're very affordable about $30 an hour.  You can't beat that price.  Sometimes they have specials so don't miss out.
I invited 7 of my coworkers and they loved it and will come back again!

Can't really justify spending over $80 for an hour massage but I'll settle for about a 40 buck massage from AcuSpa's student deal.  After running a half marathon race with some coworkers, I could not walk and my back was in pain like no other the next day so we all decided to book appts the day of for their student offer.  I got a deep tissue and my student masseuse was amazing, a bit talkative but very informative and told me about all my body's problem areas.  The next day my body had completely recovered and I could walk normally again!

So far all the student masseuses have been great and I'd highly recommend this deal; all you gotta do is ask for it when you're making reservations and fill out a form before your treatment and an evaluation right after.

i love massages.  i love giving massages and of course, i LOVE receiving them!  and i've definitely been needing a great massage for quite some time.

i found this place while researching some massage therapy schools.  it is located in the south lake avenue area, a part of pasadena that i had not ventured out to before.  the little plaza is very cute and filled with other interesting little shops.  the spa is on the second floor.  you can feel the relaxed atmosphere once you walk in.  the girl at the front desk is very friendly.  they offer you a drink and have you sit in the waiting area.

i made an appointment for a student massage.  it's a great deal - $40 for a 60 min deep tissue massage!  i am very hard to please when it comes to massages and my massage therapist, emily, did not disappoint me at all.  the big stress balls in my shoulders actually felt better for the day.  i will definitely be coming back!

parking can be a nightmare depending on the time of day.  pasadena is a busy city!  there is free street parking for 2 hours.

Great facials. Being a esthetics student and currently learning about facials, I would recommend this place. Yeah they don't have an extensive 3 page long menu like typical spas do, but why should you be choosing what facial you need when they should be experts. A great spa should be like AcuSpa where they cater to your skin condition and not just try to sell you a service. They use Dermalogica products which is great. The atmosphere of the spa is relaxing. There work area is clean and well kept. Its a small spa, but a great spa. Only gripe was my eyebrows were a bit uneven, but I didn't notice till after. Even though, I would still go back to this place.

we got a couples massage last week. i was so excited because i thought it was going to be all romantic and different than other massages. well, no. haha.

so we started off by getting into our robes and slippers. which was nice, some places don't offer this. the waiting area was small with only four chairs, but it was very comfortable. they had blankets, hand warmers, water, books, and low lighting. they gave us the paraffin wax to make our hands soft. it was a pretty neat experience, although our hands didn't feel any different once we left the joint. also, good luck keeping your robe closed with those mitts on your hands. just pray that the lighting is dark enough so noone gets a peek at the goods :o) the couples room was tiny! the door opened up to hit the massage table that i was on. also, our heads were facing away from each other! how romantic :oT.

my therapist was so-so. he was super duper nice. he didn't provide a lot of pressure at first. and when he finally asked me how the pressure was, it was kinda too late. my fault though, i really should speak up. it was funny cuz my bf said he barely felt his therapist massaging him. and in the end, she came up to us and said she gave him more pressure because he's a guy. weird.

we paid and included tip on the credit card. my bf's therapist came out and was talking super awk ward to us waiting for us to tip her.

i probably wouldn't go back. they give you a $15 credit towards your next massage for filling out a comment card. not sure if i'll do it.

but i will say that they had great customer service.... everyone was super jolly and had very soothing "masseuse" voices. :o)

Well, I have the awful luck of carrying all stress on my neck/shoulders.  I awoke yesterday morning and couldn't even move.  I was in such pain.  I went to work and the pain grew more and more intense.  I called Acuspa in the afternoon to see if they had an opening...4pm...I'll be there!  I was a bit hesitant in spending money on a massage because in the past the magic fingers never relieved any of the pain.  But I was desperate.  All I can say is WOW!  I told Emily to focus more on my neck/shoulders (I didn't want a full body massage).  She did deep tissue and the pressure was perfect.  When the hour was over I couldn't believe how I felt.  I literally felt WAY better.  Not completely healed but definitely not feeling the pain I had an hour earlier.  Today I feel great.  I would say I'm about 90% better.  I'm thankful to Emily and would definitely go back to her in a heartbeat!

I went to AcuSpa a few weeks ago and got one of the student massages.  I hafta admit i was a little wary about the whole process since i've never had a massage before and didnt particulary feel very comfortable shedding my clothes in a small enclosed space with a guy.  BUT...i hafta say i was very pleasantly surprised...they were very professional and the massage felt soooo good!  the only reason i took a star off was because when they massage your head, their hands are still super oily from the massage oils and i walked out of their feeling like a million bucks but oily from head to toe, with a strong emphasis on HEAD.  (i felt like i dunked my head & hair in a bucket of oil)  Maybe not their fault, but it did take away a little from my experience. i'd definetly go back but maybe bring a hat or at least a hair tie with me!

Kevin gave an amazing massage, and we were able to find a promotion online for birthdays for a free body scrub with our spa treatment.  The body scrubs were most relaxing.  If I had money, I would suggest getting one with each massage.  He started off slow, then worked into the deeper tissue areas, which I liked.  No initial shock or pain at the get-go.  This place doesn't have a sauna or spa to hang out and chat, but I go for personal quiet time anyway.  When done, we were given an evaluation form to fill out, and $15 discount off our next treatment.

I was surprise that around the corner from my office is a Spa that is equal to the quality of the resorts that charge $120 for exactly the same thing. I tried the student "route" with Tiffany. $40 for one full hour. You have the option to put a tip in a small brown evelope. This was very classy move from the owner to keep my tip private. As far as the massage, deep tissue..She knew most of the senstive parts & areas that needed more work...  on a scale from 1-10  a "8.5". I have had all kinds of massages & this was in the top ten...and even from a "student"..I have had worst at the Hilton, Great Walliea, Auberge ...she was has good as the Two Bunch Palm resort...often..that is a celeb place in Palm Desert. If you want a very good to excellent massage...this is the place..believe me!! ...I am an old pro..& do not recommend anyone unless worthy. Next time maybe 5 stars, but give them a try!! I've been going to AcuSpa for the past 2 years for my waxing. The place is small, but clean and relaxing. I loved going to Alex (who is no longer there) because she made the waxing process less painful. She was also extremely friendly. Since Alex left, I began seeing Colleen who too, is wonderful. The only gripe I have is how the appointments are managed. I wished their bookings was more streamlined (i.e. computer system). I originally had an appointment a week ago and had to reschedule it to the following week. I made the call in the morning with at least 24 hours notice. Later that same day, I receive a call from the receptionist confirming the original appointment that I just rescheduled! Surely you would think  that someone would have crossed out my name. A week later, I had to call to verify my rescheduled appointment because no was going to give me a confirmation call. The receptionist told me that the esthetician had to take some last minute time off so they would have to reschedule my appointment. I was a little irked that no one called me earlier, assuming this was already known beforehand. I asked the receptionist what date I can reschedule the appointment to, and she tells me she will have to call me back the next day. Obviously, this is  inconvenient for me having to wait around for the updated schedule. If you're going to make an appointment, be sure you have several dates in mind and it's not urgent that you MUST have your waxing done because at the end they may flake out and you will have to wait yet again for another appointment.
