Review from Robert S.
San Francisco, CA
I called Action Sports because I needed my snowboard boots heat molded. I spoke with Mike and he said he could help me mold them for free! A lot of places charge 30$+ for this service yet here was a place that was willing to help, even though I had not purchased my boots from them.
My boots have been super tight since I bought them and Mike told me I shouldn't heat mold them as they would have already molded to my feet after all the riding i've done in them. Instead he offered to stretch them, which I agreed. Anything that could get them to be more comfortable was okay with me.
I picked them up a few days later, and they were stretched! Perfect fit!. I tried to pay him for his time but he refused. This was genuine customer service at its finest, and I hadn't spent one dime in the store.
I highly recommend Mike, and this shop. He did a fantastic job, and really helped save my toes for the upcoming season -

I have absolutely no complaints of my experience with Action Sports. Rather, I can't say enough good about them.
I went in because I had been screwed over by another snowboard shop down in San Jose and was stuck with a pair of snowboard boots that were too small for my feet. The owner of Action Sports was super kind and extremely helpful when I posed the potentially awkward question of whether I could exchange my small boots for some larger ones at Action. Even though they were a different color of the same model, to my relief, the owner allowed me to do it and even heat molded the boots for me! For a customer who had never shopped there before, this was extraordinarily kind of him.
He gave me tons of tips I hadn't heard before, helped me correctly size my foot, exchanged my boots and heat molded them all before I had even spent one dime in his shop. That, my friend, is customer service. Needless to say, because of such kindness, I ended up buying a bunch of random tuning supplies and stuff that I still needed for the season, not because I had to, but because I wanted to support such a benevolent person and his shop. And the prices are quite competitive too, especially when, a month later or so, they had a 45% off sale on the snowboard equipment.
The customer service at Action Sports is unparalleled. At a time when money is tight and small shops like these are going out of business right and left, my experience at Action Sports was like a breath of fresh air in a sea of soot.
I will gladly drive down from where I live, near San Francisco, whenever I need any skate or snowboard supplies just to support Action Sports. -

In a rush, but I've stopped in on this place on and off since they were Core Board Shop. Great shop, very chill, laid back, generally helpful sales guys. Can't speak to their skate expertise, except that they are one of the most solid snowboard shops in the bay area.

Excellent Service....When compared to the "OTHER" Skate Shop in San Carlos Action puts their customers first.

I keep coming back to place for gifts. I really do like the shop a lot I just really wish they had more chick stuff. I bought my board here and the guy gave me a discount off if I special ordered a jacket I've been trying to hunt down before the season had started. I was super stoked he was going to order it for me, but come to find out it was sold out ever. Womp womp. It still doesn't stop me from coming in.

I just bought a pair of snowboard boots here at Action Sports. The customer service was awesome -- I'm pretty new to snowboarding, so this one employee spent over 20 minutes helping me try on different boots & figure out which ones were best for me. He was full of great suggestions and tips, answered my all of questions, and was really patient with me as I tried on pair after pair.
This weekend they're having their "end of the season" sale on snowboard gear... so my boots were 50% off, a super sweet deal.
Bonus: in honor of the sale this weekend, they were giving out free Chipotle burritos, chips, guac, and salsa... AWESOME! -

These guys are first class. Brought a board in with a stripped axle, which Alex re-died and went over free of charge. It was a slow day, but they are all really chill and friendly folks. I will definitely be returning here for new skate and snowboard gear. The ramps on the side look fun as well.

here's an updated review to include skateboarding as well. I loooove the guys in this shop. I made so many repeat visits here because it was near my office and they spent a lot of time chatting with me, more than you really need to with one customer.
Action Sports was one of the places that really got me into snowboarding. If I hadn't gone here I might have gotten a very unbalanced perception of the peninsula, since there were so many really unhappy experiences at other places in this region.
The people I spoke to were down to earth, chill and friendly and above all really really into snowboarding and skateboarding. there was a total lack of insecure guy strutting and it is a great place for any woman young or old to get into snowboarding or skateboarding. It's really the employees that make all the difference.
I talked soooo much to the one skateboarding guy here even before I started skating and he rules. I went to Lake Cunningham skatepark the other day and he was there, so cool!
it's just so nice when things are all about skating, so uncomplicated, but we are also allowed to use cuss words and drink diet coke without getting spanked. action sports emploeyes rule!Listed in: Skateboarding in the Bay Area, Snowboarding in Cali

This place was originally called Core Board shop and I had such a hard time finding it since that's what I thought it was still going to be but overall this place is a lot smaller than I expected, but still packs a punch! This shop probably houses some of the best branded snowboards and the most knowledgeable people I've met in a long time.
They shared with me what everyone else simply kept saying, they taught me exactly what it meant to have a reversed camber board and why a Lib Tech or a GNU was the hottest new brand of the season and the technologies that came with it. They made fantastic recommendations and filled me with knowledge of things that I would spend over $1g on eventually. They don't really have much in the sense of discounts but they have a fair amount of last season's gear on sale in terms of bindings and boots, and they have a great selection of all things high end for snowboarding, period!
I think I might come back today for some boot fittings :) -

I have been shopping for a new pair of snowboard boots. Thanks to the raving Yelp reviews, I stopped by Action Sport & Skatepark to take a look and I am glad I did.
Action Sport & Skatepark is located at a not easy to see and low profile office complex near REI. The store is not big but pretty decent size. In fact, the selection of their snowboard boots are pretty comparable to big shops such as REI or Sports Basement. I have visited several stores and I have to say the staff at Action Sports provided the most knowledgeable and helpful customer service I have encountered. The store manager, Jeremy, was incredibly professional, insightful and helpful. I was so impressed by the service that I actually felt guilty leaving the store empty-handed.
I strongly recommend everyone to stop by this place when you are shopping for boarding gear. You may not buy from them at the end, but you won't regret giving them a try. -

Love this place!
I just took up snowboarding this season and stumbled upon Action Sports after shopping at Road Runners a couple of doors down the way...WHAT AN AMAZING FIND! The guys are courteous and helpful. They're knowledgeable and ride in the gear they sell. As a beginner, I had no idea where to start but all I had to was ask.
I met the manager, Jeremy, a week ago. He took the time to go through all the different types of snowboard boots ('cause my 1st pair of boots were a total disgrace; purchased because they were dirt cheap...they felt and road that way) and set me up with a sweet pair of Vans with the dual Boa system...I will never go back to the traditional lace system!
I got such a great deal on the boots that I decided to get another jacket...and it was on sale as well! BONUS! So I just went for it and asked him about goggles...again, those were also on sale!! Jeremy took the time to go over each item I bought: the ratings, product care, etc. It might seem silly to some; but for a novice, I found the information to be invaluable.
I will definitely go back for all of my gear...you can't beat their pricing and product knowledge. I only wish they had a more prominent store front...if I hadn't been at Road Runners, I would've never known they were there.

I bought close to $500 worth of stocking stuffers on Dec 3rd and was told it wouldn't be a problem to return anything I didn't end up using even if it was beyond the 30 day return policy. I went back today (5 days past the 30 days) to return some of the items and was told "sorry, but the sales manager who rang you up isn't here today.". The polite cashier asked the owner who was hiding in the back and came out with the same line. I learned my lesson, I'm not coming back except to use my store credit.

Great place. Bought a 2010 Burton Custom V-Rocker. All I can say is, very knowledgeable, helpful, and chill staff. No snobs in here. They guided me throughout the whole process. They have a pricematch guarantee so they even cut me a deal on the board.
They even offered some older season bindings/boots for about 40% off but I didn't take em cause of the colorway. Just couldnt bare to see pink bindings on this sick ass, very manly board!
So instead, I purchased a pair of Cartel EST bindings online, which action sports didnt have, and yet they were still nice enough to equip the bindings and get everything fitted on for my boot size and ready to use.
Great place. Definitely my go-to place now for snowboarding equipment/service as long as they have what I need in stock. Also hoping to get a new longboard or skateboard later on... I'd most definitely buy it from them. -

I've been in search of a shop to help me find the right snowboarding boots - and Action Sports just became my new favorite board shop. This store has a really helpful staff, I had Alex and Nick really help me to find the right boots and bindings.
I came in because I have an issue where most boots seem to rub the instep of my foot in a bad way. The guys spent a good 20-30 minutes helping to custom fit a pair of ThirtyTwo boots, heat mold the liners, and tune a set of bindings just for these boots.
Friendly and knowledgeable, these guys are the best! -

Awesome shop! I've been to the shop several times in the past few weeks looking at upgrading my equipment. The guys are very knowledgeable, and very chill.
I heard about the midseason sale so I dropped by. My buddy ended up buying a new pair of bindings, and we got great advice on equipment. I ended up waffling and missed the sale. I called a few days after the sale ended, and they set me up with a new board.
It's impossible to spot from the street. It's not in the same complex as the Best Buy, but it's facing it on the other side of the parking lot with a fence in between.
Great shop to get some individual help and advice! -

South San Francisco, CA
My first experience with the shop was back when they were still Core Board Shop and my initial impression was that it was just OK. I didn't get that warm and fuzzy feeling from the staff or the shop itself so I never went back.
Fast forward a couple years and after their change, I decided to give them another try since I was getting back into skating and I worked around the corner from them.
What a difference! On my initial visit, I was greeted by one of the staff, later to be known as "Stan" who was very helpful. I appreciated his style of customer service because while he acknowledged my presence, he didn't crowd me, but would check in while I roamed through the shop to see if I wanted to check anything out. He also never made me feel like I didn't belong in there, "like old dudes shouldn't be skating.....you belong over at Golfsmith".
Since I am now skating again, I have been back there several times to get more equipment; pads, wheels, bearings, another deck and hardware and Stan has always been there to answer my sometimes arcane questions along with giving me multiple options of what he thinks will work for how I'm skating. He will even go as far as letting me try his setup to compare to what I'm using.....very cool!
While I have been dealing mostly with Stan, I will say that the other staff there seems to be on the same page with regard to customer service, knowledgeable and friendly yet not pushy nor judgmental.
As for prices, I have searched on line for some stuff and can happily report that their prices are quite competitive, sometimes even the same as some stuff I've priced on EBay. While some E-tailers don't charge tax, some kill you on shipping so I'm happy to pay the tax and get to see, touch and feel the product before I buy just to make sure it's all I expect it to be.
I am glad I gave them another try because it was well worth it. I would encourage anyone interested in skating check them out. Perhaps by the time their skatepark is finished, I'll be ready to drop in! -

Literally as good as it gets. Great snowboard boot selection (what I went in for) and even better customer service. No pretentiousness or" too cool for you" attitude, just knowledgeable and helpful staff. Mike answered my questions, asked me good questions, laced me up, and helped me pick up a great pair of boots. So good.

Snagged boots/board/bindings this weekend at a sweet 30%-off sale.
The sales associate was super helpful and informative... not pushy at all.
I've heard that some of the guys there can look down their noses or seem to feel threatened by people who would like to shop around but the guy who helped me was spot-on awesome. -

Arggh for some reason, Yelp's servers munged my review from Nov 2009, and put it into Core Board Shop's review as an update. Well at least they still have the picture/logo I uploaded from Nov. (which is properly dated: http://www.yelp.com/bi...) anyways, Im having to repaste the review and lost my FTR. Wah

The old Core Board Sports has folded and has been redone with a new shop and soon to be skate park in the adjacent space. With the snow season right around the corner I decided to look for an upgrade on some snowpants that have lost their water resistance over the years.I thought I had sworn off Burton for a while now but actually found that they did have a reasonably priced, lightweight, shell type pant so I went for it. Got into a discussion with one of the employees about current technologies on boards and got a good intro so some of these reverse camber and variable sidewall boards. Might have to demo some to see what this new space age technology is all about... -

Jackie M told me about this place and was pretty much raving about them. She told me about them maybe 3 times before I got off my arse and came out. Holy hell! I'm so glad I did. I was looking for a new pair of boarding boots. I walked into the place and I was greeted by a guy at the counter and another walking the floor. Both were very friendly and asked if I needed help. I pretty much got service that's expected at Nordstroms. I told one of the guys that I'm looking for boots. I looked around a bit and proceeded upstairs to where the boots and bindings were located. The clerk came by and was super helpful. I told him that I have issues with boots not fitting my calves and that my feet are somewhat wide. He pulled out a couple of boots for me to try and what I really loved was that he didn't try to sell me on the most expensive thing on the shelf. He actually let me try them out and let me decide for myself.
These guys are great! Great attitudes, patient, and extremely knowledgeable. They really seem happy to be there and happy to help out.
I highly recommend people to check this place out. -
Review from Amy J.
The employees here are really helpful and friendly. My BF has been looking for a snowboard for quite some time. They didn't have a huge inventory but the staff here took care us and answered all of our questions. He pointed us in the right direction for a quality board. We're still shopping around but he ended with, "Make yourself at home." How many employees say that? They also offer price matching so if you find the exact same product and they carry it, they'll match it. We'll probably go back here if he doesn't find the right equipment elsewhere but from what we've seen, they're cheaper than some of the big box retailers.

Four stars because this place is pretty good. Their inventory on the long boards when I went was not a lot. More inventory would make it a five star. Almost all the employees are cool and mellow. Overall, good place, more inventory in the long boards + components would give it a five star.

Very helpful staff both over the phone and in person, ended up coming here to buy my snowboard boots after trying on two pairs and having the benefits explained for each one. It's a small store so you get a lot of attention for what you need; if I need a board in the future, I'll probably come back here to get it.

Very knowledgeable and helpful people here. Awesome experience. Great customer service which is a premium for these shops. The dude that worked with me was very good at telling what his honest opinions were and what were the more popular gear, etc. I think his name was Jeremy (?). Not many discounts or deals to be made unfortunately - especially if you are buying multiple items. But i will definitely go back. Good selection.
