I stumbled across this place a few months back on one of my weekly Saturday trips to Syracuse from SUNY Cortland. We actually came here by accident because some crazy bum started asking us for money so this was the closest place to run into to avoid him.

The place is kind of old looking, but at the same time has a pizza parlor/Greek restaurant feel to it. As many times as I've been there, the place has always given me great customer service...although the one older man who works there with the hunchback is kind of strange and makes you feel uncomfortable. A side from that, the main guy with the goatee is always friendly and always knows what we want. The prices may seem a bit pricey, but the quality of the food and the portions make up for it as they are huge.

When I go there, I usually get one of the Beef Patties, fries and a large Gyro Pizza. The beef patties are unlike anything you will ever have. They are about $2.25 and are absolutely delicious, especially the buttery and flakey dough which holds the delectable seasoned beef inside. They have the best ones I've ever eaten. As for the fries, they seem fresh and are actually quite delicious, they remind me of fries from Wendy's if that helps. The salads are also very fresh and are of a good size. The best part about this place is the pizza. They have the best pizza I've ever eaten in Central New York, especially if you order the Gyro pizza which includes generous portions of gyro meat, tomatoes, onions, feta cheese, and mozzarella cheese all baked on a homemade, buttery pizza crust. I recommend trying this pie if you are ever there, you won't be disappointed. They also sell beer which is a plus. Pizza and beer, the perfect combination.

The only issues I have with this place is I have found a hair or two in my pizza on more than one occasion, but it hasn't discouraged me from coming back yet as terrible as it may sound. Most of the people who work there seem to wear their hair long which accounts for the hair. A second issue is that the food does take awhile. We usually eat in the place, so we are use to waiting 25-30 minutes for all the food. I don't mind waiting for good food, but I can't imagine how the place runs on a busy Friday or Saturday night. The third issue is they come off a little "cheap." When you order fries they give you a small little container of ketchup, you don't get it yourself. Another example can be seen (especially from the older guy) is when I usually come here, I order a large pizza. I usually don't finish it and more than likely have 3 or 4 leftover slices so I ask for a box. They usually look over the counter to see what I have left before considering if I'm worthy enough for a small pizza box or a doggy bag (which will have grease seeping out of it so watch where you put it.) The final issue is with the older man. Don't get me wrong, he's extremely friendly, but he comes off as well....a little strange, and my girlfriend agrees. He likes to be friendly and talk, but there is just something really bizarre about him.

Overall, I think Acropolis Pizza deserves better reviews from others. This place always gives me friendly customer service and it's nice to know that the staff knows what you want as soon as you walk in. I don't know if it's the late nights or the people themselves who cause the place to get bad reviews, but I have never had a customer service problem with them, but than again, that's just me. I gave 4/5 stars just because of the hairs I've found as well as the sometimes long wait. Other than that, the food is really something great and they have an endless menu of everything from pizza, hot/cold sandwiches and chicken wings to gyros, pastas and tons more. I wouldn't pay any mind to any of these reviews unless you try the place for yourself. It's opened late and the place just has really delicious food. I wish SUNY Cortland had an Acropolis Pizza House or a place that made half as good food as these guys do.

I do not really eat here. I am not a huge fan of Pizza so this is why I avoid this establishment.  I been here a couple of times for post bar munchies.

The sweet potatoe fries are typical but they were hot and fresh.
I did enjoy the beef patties a lot. I forgot the price but they hit the spot.
They also have several beers in bottles.

I wish the staff were friendlier but it is annoying to deal with drunken college students. Food production does lack speed as well.

This place is always packed and the line can reach out the door. I honestly, would never wait that long for their food.

I did have a turkey sandwich here before, the portion size were HUGE.

3/5 for staying open so late.

A letter to my abusive pizza restaurant, Acropolis

    Acropolis,

I want to love you, I really do.  I've enjoyed some deliciously juicy slices, and you were the one to introduce me to some great Fried Raviolis, but you can't just rely on a couple of good flings to build a strong, lasting relationship.  Things haven't been going very well between us, and I just don't feel like your heart is in the right place.

I'm actually fairly certain that you have no heart.  How do you think it makes me feel when, every single time I order delivery, I receive a pizza that was obviously cooked long before it arrived on my doorstep, with all the cheese slid almost completely off the pizza, due to some unkind handling?  How do you think it feels to be yelled at because I didn't come down from the top floor of my dorm to pick up the semi-cheesed pizza fast enough?  The answer: like you don't give a crap about your loyal customer.

When you're good, you're pretty good, and I think to myself "Hey, we can make this work," but more frequently than not, you're not very good at all.  Well, I've had it with your wishy-washy quality, and rude employees.  You can consider this goodbye.

One last thing: I just wanted to let you know that I have been seeing another Pizza place.  It doesn't play games with my heart.

    Coldly,

    Taylor L.

The pizza is fine, and the place is a bit of a dive, but that would be acceptable if the service was friendly.

I felt like I was interrupting something by walking up to the counter to order. The staff is rude, cocky, and not welcoming.

Don't eat at Arcopolis even if it's the only late night option.

The pizza is decent enough, but the real selling point is how late it's open. Forgo the morning after regrets of Augie's and suffer through the half a minute walk up to Acropolis. I know it's far, but it's worth it.

The staff is perpetually grumpy and miserable looking. But that's just part of the charm. And if you really think about it, you'll realize who Cranky McGoatee Man needs to serve day in and day out and you'll find yourself sympathizing with the poor guy.

Plus, one of their booths has one of those electronic trivia whiz machines. Me and my posse still have a solid presence on the high score list, and we would have taken number one if all the damn grease on our fingers didn't make our fingers slip!

Based on the reviews, I'd guess that the Acropolis has gone down since the many meals I've had there.
Acropolis was good anytime, whether drunk or not. My favorite was ordering a couple slices with feta and tomato. The crust came out so perfectly crispy, and they had the most excellent blue cheese to dip it in. Sometimes I miss this...

Meh. I've experienced better.  I couldn't have said it better myself.  This is one of the main pizza places open on M Street.  Chances are if you go to Syracuse you have had a slice of A-Crap pizza.

The slices are small, the staff is bitter, and the place charges you for using your debit card/credit card.  I mean c'mon people, they know everyone is a broke college student.

The one good thing is they serve beer late night (at least they did when I was there).  So if you are drunk you can venture in here after the bars close and order some food and drink...until you get kicked out for making a scene.

I would say Acropolis toes the line of what and what isn't a dive restaurant. Readers will agree, Acropolis in general is shady, served mediocre food, and needs an interior change from its current shabby wood paneling. My best guess to why all this is going on is that is greek mafia run, and if thats how it gets business done, then thats how it does. If you want some decent food, take a drive down Westcott St. and pull into Dorians, where George, Mama and Dan Seals are cooking it up good all day.

Is there an option to give no stars. A**holes. So nasty and rude it is sickening. And the food is not good at all. While I was waiting for my take out my friend walked in with a bag from another restaurant and they made him leave the restaurant. This was incredibly rude he was not even eating the food. He was just waiting for me because they took 15 mins to make my sub. Which was not good at all. It was very greasy and flavorless. Also when I was waiting a woman said they Messed up her order. They did, I heard her order a steak and cheese sub but they gave her a chicken and cheese sub"You shouldhave fuckin ordered a Philly cheesesteak then. Do you fuckin want this "  This was not shocking they totally live up to there expectation. Subpar food and workers that are annoyed with your very presence. Dont tip they don't  deserve it. You will regret it after. You would think they would be nicer to you if you tip them.  Big waste.

I went to this place twice in my four years of college.  First was Saturday afternoon at 3pm, where there was a couple ordering in front of me and my friends.  They ordered a sandwich and pizza, my friends and I ordered a few slices and one sandwich.  There was 5 people working behind the counter, and after we made our order no one made a move to start making it.  Everyone was standing around, not really doing anything.  Literally 20 minutes later, we finally got our food.  Food was crappy and the service was awful.  I'm not even going to talk about the time I went late at night when it was crowded.

I used to go here once and a while when I went to SU. They have decent hot wings and pizza but its made me sick a few times. One time when I was in here Shaq was also here (he was in town playing at the dome) so it must be pretty decent if he was in there. Haha. I usually only order from here when my boyfriend is craving buffalo chicken pizza because not much else is appetizing. Its a sad sight to see as well, and I don't want to know about sanitation. It seems to be pretty dirty in the back. Its usually a last resort going here so I wouldn't recommend it over the other options on Marshall Street.

During the summer when I was home from college the Acropolis Pizza House would often be the last stop of the night.  Thin Greek Pizza that I have found I can only get on the Syracuse University Campus.

This place is a bit depressing. The lighting is that weird dark yellow, so everything feels kind of like you're in a low budget 1970's action film. The prices for the food are fair, but the food itself is greasy and mediocre. I'd like to say something about the chicken gyro, but all that comes to mind is: "don't get the chicken Gyro."

Also, they didn't honor any of the special requests I made. So my Gyro was covered in cheap milk filled tzatziki. The fries tasted like dirty fryer fries. I detected hints of chicken, and an undeniable odor of fish. (do they even do fish fry?)

either way, yeah I'm sure it's great late at night when you're unable to really find a better option- but as a place for actual food- look elsewhere as there is none here.

Worst Greek food I've ever had...and I'm usually a fan.  Easily worst service in Syracuse.  As the only customer at the counter, I waited 5 mins and no one talked to me.  They all gossiped and joked while I waited to order.  They screwed up my order.  Chicken souvlaki overcooked, and the salad looked and tasted like it was the scraped off toppings of a big mac.  Pluses: decent beer selection and it appears to be the only place serving food on weeknight at 1 AM

Probably the worst pizza on the hill. They only still exist because they have the best location (other than Cosmos) and a long history. The pizza crust is tasteless and the toppings taste like the puddles of oil you can see sitting on the top.
