Typical coffee house, some sandwiches, salads, pizzas plus wine and good local microbrews on tap.  Quirky hippyish mediterannean decor, airy double-height decor, too clean to be Berkeley but super cozy anyway with couches.  Wifi plus one pay computer.

The draw here is folk music, scheduled or drop-in.  Sometimes electric.  Acoustics are very good here.

It's new thanks to a remodel, but it's actually been here 25 years.  Stop by soon next time you're in Hayes Valley, they could use some more business.

Great asset of a coffee shop with all the typical fare and beverages served up in a nice comfortable space that invites in light and wandering acoustic musicians.  ROCKin~  this may just very well be my new Momi Tobi (but don't tell Momi I said that)..

Free wireless that works reliably.  As far as I know there is no other cafe in Hayes Valley that can boast the same.

A good place to hang out and get some work done. Comfy.

Selection of muffins and food could be better, but the service is very friendly.

My husband and I happened upon this place while looking at apartments in the area. We stopped in for some much-needed coffee and the laid-back atmosphere coupled with the excellent sf vanilla latte helped me to survive the day's open houses.

Also, their bathroom was actually *pleasant* to use. It was very well-lit and clean. I really appreciate this in a good coffee shop.

i took the table outside by the window so my son could hang out in the stroller and watch all the people go by.  i read the menu from outside and saw underneath hot chocolate  was white chocolate!  i was very excited since i don't see that on a menu often.  i proceeded into the cafe to find no one behind the counter.  i must have waited for like fives minutes.  finally an older man appeared, and i eagerly ordered the white chocolate.

"sorry, i can't make that for you because i can't find it."

okaaaaay...."can i have one shot of decaf espresso then?"

so i'm carefully watching him make it (i was a barista back in the day), and he's not paying any attention at all.  after packing in the coffee grounds and placing the handle into the lever unevenly, he pressed the button and water started spilling into the espresso cup as he walked away.  he came back noticing what had happened, so he started again (okay that was nice, i thought).  at least he's making me a new one.  upon paying, he just took my card without telling me the total.  hmm, not so great service.

went back to my seat ouside, and cofee was decent as were the baked goods that i got.  then i noticed, plastered on the window was a notice for ownership transfer.  i realized, this guy must be bummed that he's not owning this cafe anymore, or he just doesn't care because it's not his cafe anymore.

overall three stars because i love the cool front door and the big open window, i'd like to go back when the new owner is there.  hopefully there will be better, more smiley service.

Sweet Spot in San Francisco! --- March 23, 2007
Spanish style stucco, spacious, terra cotta pots of tropical plants crowd the front door, an archway into padded barstools and generous chairs made of raw pine and floors of Douglas Fir. Worldly carpets hang from high ceilings of endless stucco. Stunning logo of teacup of coffee with guitar stem protruding with steam hinting of the array of acoustic entertainment that will blossom from the oasis of coffee, tea, beer, wine, scones and grilled munchies. I suggest to the manager at 10pm chips, salsa, and holy guacamole are in order. It must have been because featured acoustic guitar genius Mokai had just played enthusiastically a song titled just that: Holy Guacamole. The crowd stayed until three. Grooving in, out, and all around to the acoustic Fingerstyle Folk Blues & Grooves played by local guitar legends, Mokai and JP Cutler with Tabla Player Ranjit Parmar, an amazing percussionist.  Ending the night by inviting anyone in the crowd with a knack for any instrument.  So joined in a flutist, a kazooist, and another guitar star Garrin for and endless jam. The music did not stop for hours and the spirit of San Francisco manifest right here in this humble year and a half old caf.
Anyone going out on a Friday night in the city knows the most painful part is finding parking, once that is accomplished the question becomes finding space in the place you choose for entertainment. Standing room only this night means, time to dance and get your groove on. Acoustic Caf invites the community to come one and all for music, food, drink and fun to enjoy and partake in premium local San Francisco artists. If you are one of those artists looking for a venue come speak to the management and sign up for a night and take the floor. The vision is to support and grow local talent. Just take a look at the fabulous art of Michael R. Jacobs. Originals on the wall, unfortunately not for sale, however peruse the book of drawings and you will see an amazing artist on display. Where are you going to drink in the beauty and splendor of creative spirit of California? Don't miss the next night of live music at Acoustic Caf where you can do it right! Stop in to check the calendar, add your name to the list of gigs, and have a bite to eat, a coffee or a beer. Gourmet food? Maybe not, for sure it is gourmet music and gourmet people! Cheers to San Francisco and to a Sweeeeeeet Spot!

Love the vibe of this place, mellow, artsy and comfortable.  Great beers on tap too, one of my favorite neighborhood spots.
