I called Acote yesterday afternoon for a last minute cut since my regular girl was booked up. The receptionist told me to come right over.  (I work across the street).
I was warmly greeted by the receptionist and she offered me a beverage.  In the next few minutes, I was ask by 3 different people if I wanted a cappuccino.

Danielle came over and intro'd herself and we chatted briefly about what  I wanted to do to my hair.  Another nice assistant washed my hair and then I sat back in the chair.  I was really lucky to get her.  She was fast, efficient and gave me a beautiful cut with an amazing blowout.  She even gave me tips on how to blow out my hair in the morning.  If you want a great cut from a sweet girl, definitely ask for Danielle.

The salon is nice, simple and clean. Best of all, no attitude here.

I don't enjoy writing unfavorable reviews, but I don't enjoy rude service much either. I'm not a twenty-year-old anymore and I don't have the patience for it.

If you want to go to Newbury St. have a nice snack and overpay, you can probably get a good haircut. There is generally a coupon on their website for some of the stylists and they always run coupons on ever/groupon/livingdisastrously so at least take those.

I went to Acote for awhile because I liked my stylist but I got sick of the unprofessional staff and the last minute cancellations.

It seems my hairdresser suffers from Manic Pixie Dream Girl syndrome which means that cute tiny dresses are cool, but actually showing up for my appointments is optional.

The genius staff once spammed out my and every other customer's email out to their whole mailing list and didn't understand why it bothered me.

They did a nice job, especially with color, but it's not really worth it for me to drag over there and deal with parking to overpay that much, and they do take forever.

I went into Acote at 3pm today for a partial highlight and trim. I didn't leave the salon until 6:45.

So, how exactly did I manage to rack up nearly four hours of my day in this place?

Shortly after arriving, I was offered a drink and given one of those robe things to put over my clothes. Desk staff was polite, accommodating - no complaints there. After waiting for about 5 minutes, my stylist came over to introduce herself and apologized because things were running behind schedule. I said no worries - I wasn't about to freak out over 5 minutes. She then told me she was still finishing up her previous client and asked if I minded waiting a little while longer. Again, I said sure, not a problem, thinking that it would be another 10 to 15 minutes or so.

An HOUR later I was finally escorted over to her station. Told her what I wanted (keep the length, trim my bangs, blonde highlights similar to what I already had) - she remarked "well, that's easy enough." Yep, I thought so. Nothing crazy going on on top of this head.

It then took her nearly an hour to put all the foils in. Mind you, this was a partial highlight - most every other stylist I've been to has been able to do this in 20-30 minutes, tops. I've also never felt as though my hair was going to be yanked out by the roots quite like I felt today.

Then began the next hour in which she would remove a portion of the foils roughly every 15 minutes or so, shampoo that section, and then leave me to sit again - simultaneously dripping and foiled. I've never experienced this before, as all the other places I've gone to have always removed all the foils at the same time. Most likely a consequence of the hour long foiling session?

After finally removing every last foil, she told me that she was going to put a gloss on my hair to make it shiny, because "You're going to be waiting anyway." Translation: She had another client she was working on at the time. So, ok - sure, more waiting. At least I made sure to take advantage of the Cappuccino machine at this point.

By the time I was actually back in the chair for the haircut portion of today's marathon hair salon experience, I was honestly too tired of sitting around to really care how it turned out. If I had been more wide eyed and alert, I might have said more after the hair dryer blasted my ear long enough for me to yank my head away in pain. After asking me if it had been too hot, she goes, "Yeah, that happens sometimes." Huh? I guess I expected to hear, "Oh, I'm sorry I almost burnt your ear off" - my b. As for the cut itself - it's fine. Nothing extraordinary, but I didn't ask for extraordinary. She forgot to trim my bangs like I originally asked - but whatever, I just wanted to get out of there.

In summary, I watched 4 hours of my life slowly tick by in this salon today. I'm an easy going person and I understand that not everything always goes according to schedule - but this was ridiculous given the relative simplicity of what I asked for. Definitely not worth the money spent. I'll never go back.

I needed to get my hair colored last minute and couldn't get an appointment at my regular salon. A few girls I work with recommended Acote so I called to make an appointment. I was able to get an appointment the next day.

I got there on time and was told it would be a few minutes until my stylist could see me. The receptionist offered me a glass of wine while I waited, um, yes please!

A few minutes later my stylist came over and introduced herself. We spent a few minutes going over what I was looking for. She used a color wheel so that we were both on the same page. She started applying color - listening to my different comments and questions as we went. Overall, I thought she did an excellent job - I am obsessed with my hair color. I have gotten so many compliments.

The reason for the 4 stars - I was in the salon for 2.5 hours and I didn't get a cut! They do a wonderful job but make sure you have plenty of time.

I've been going to this salon very frequently for 4 years now, and I am a HUGE HUGE fan, but recently I had an experience that left a bit to be desired...

I made an appointment for my boyfriend to get his hair cut on the day of a formal work event. About 2 hours before, I realized I should have my hair done while I waited for him to save time, so I tried to make an appointment. I couldn't remember who my main stylist Mihal had told me to request if he wasn't available. I asked the receptionist to ask Mihal who should do my hair, since my very curly, frizzy hair needs special attention and he knows it well. The girl said she couldn't (why not?! I see the girls talking to the stylists while booking appointments) so she'd just book me as a new client (?!) and assign me to whomever was available. I cringed but decided it's just a blowout and how hard can it be? They're all very good stylists, and I understood that my request was a bit last-minute on a busy day. Fine.

I went in and my stylist was somebody I did not recognize (I go there very often) but she was friendly and I liked her. However, that went away quickly when she sat me at the chair and told me how the salon keeps giving her clients with curly hair and she struggles with it. I should've cut my losses then, I know! I don't think that's something a stylist needs to tell a client.

In the end, it took her a whopping 70 minutes to blow-dry my hair (for a benchmark, it takes me 30 minutes to do it at home, and my stylist doesn't take more than 40 minutes to do a superb job) and it ended up extremely frizzy. I was growing anxious in that chair and trying hard to give her a chance to finish and see if she could fix it, but she just couldn't salvage it. It was just the most terrible hair experience I've had in YEARS, and my goal of saving time was not only not met, but I was also forced to spend extra time (and $$) on my hair. GREAT.

I got up and went to pay, and I put my hair in a ponytail, which I'm sure signaled to everyone, "HI, I HATE MY HAIR". Danielle, one of the stylists, quickly came in to save the day and offerred to fix it, but I had to say no since I had already wasted too much time and was running late. She apologized, wrote me a gift certificate for another blow-out and told me I could use it with my main stylist.

I still think this salon is amazing and don't plan on straying anytime soon. Danielle was an example of the outstanding customer service this salon consistently provides, and Mihal did a wonderful job with my boyfriend's cut. But the salon as a whole could've been more honest and explained that nobody who had experience styling my type of hair was available with such short notice. I would've understood.

I went there today with a $20 off coupon and I almost feel guilty for having used it (but after all, I'm a student!).
From a European perspective, $45 for a male's cut is too much (but I ended up paying $25 because of the coupon), but the service here was great (they even offered Coffee & Wine on top of providing fresh water (it was summer today in Boston, greatly appreciated!).

I'm satisfied and I'm considering going there again even with the full price (the cut was very good and I have the feeling I can trust the place for the future).

I absolutely love Acote and the work they do with my hair. I have never received so many compliments as I do when I leave there with a cut or a simple blow dry. It is well worth the time and effort to receive their services!

I started going to Acote from a recommendation from a good friend. Her roommate Laura is a stylist there and was looking for hair models for her Wednesday morning classes. From the moment I started going to Acote (I've been  5 times now), I was treated excellently by the entire staff. When you arrive at the salon, you are given coffee, wine, or water and have the option of a number of snacks as well. The stylists, (I've had Danielle and Laura) paid great attention to my needs and I've always left there with excellent results.

The atmosphere is also very warm and inviting. With huge windows lining the Newbury Street side and an open set of windows in the back, there seems to always be plenty of light on the main floor. The frequently fresh bouquets of flowers and mirrors surrounding the venue also help enlarge the rather small space.

Whether going in for a cut or a blow dry, I would definitely give Acote a great review from my growing number of personal experiences.

I went here for a recent haircut out of a combination of frugality (I had a gift certificate for a free cut that turned up in a schwag bag) and desperation (although I'm usually finicky about stylists due to having curly hair and a, uh, low-maintenance approach). The gift was for a cut with Patricia, so I had no choice in the matter of a stylist--but after an impulsive self-trim several weeks back, I wasn't exactly in a position to be picky.

I called on a Saturday and got an appointment for four days later. I mentioned the gift certificate at the time of booking. The day of the appointment, I was early. Patricia was running late and apologized several times, and the team there set me up with water, coffee, magazines, and solicitous smiles while I waited.  I wasn't in a huge rush, and the salon is gorgeous, with an enormous wall of windows facing Newbury--it was a beautiful day, and the center window was open, so the wait was not really a punishment.

After 30 minutes, I got my turn in the chair. As I told my shameful story, Patricia sized up my hair. She didn't roll her eyes once. We discussed what I wanted and what she could realistically do with my crazy kitchen-scissors job, and I told her I was hoping to avoid the tragic outcome of my last haircut (a dry/damaged texture, possibly due to shears). Then I went for a wash, and then she cut and styled my hair.

She did a terrific job. She was efficient and confident, but not rushed. There was no shearing. She checked in with me before doing things she knew I wouldn't be delighted about but kind of had to do to even out my hairline. And despite the fact that she was essentially not being paid for the haircut, she was completely lovely the entire time.

At the time of checkout, I presented the gift certificate, expecting some kind of snotty salon attitude, but got absolutely none. WTF? Fantastic!

My hair now looks great whether I wash and wear or blow it out, and the shape is great for my face. Against all odds (see also: self-inflicted haircut), it is exactly what I asked for, and it looks and feels healthy.

A note: although Patricia clearly knows what she's doing with curly hair, I watched her go to town on a long, glossy 'do before my cut, and it looked terrific. I found out afterward that the girl had extensions, as did several of the stylists. All of them looked terrific and very natural--not my thing, but if you're looking for these, Acote might be a good place to check out.

    Best free thing ever!

This morning was my first time at Acote, and I will definitely be returning.

They were able to schedule me the day I called (unlike other Boston salons that shall go unnamed). Upon arrival, my coat was whisked away and I was offered a coffee refill. They also cheese, fruit, and other snacks laid out. I'm often intimidated by the atmosphere of salons (impervious women with perfect hair who all seem to know each other) but they made an effort to put me at ease .

Eva, my stylist, started out by asking me lots of questions about what I wanted. She seemed unfazed by the fact that I hadn't had a haircut in eight months or by the hack job that resulted when I tried to trim my own bangs. It wasn't until she'd started washing my hair that she realized exactly how much hair I have. My hair is so thick that it usually takes twice as long to dry it. Fortunately, Eva took her time (I was there for an hour and a half!) and did a fantastic job. She only took an inch off, but after she had meticulously dried it, she went back in and spent another half hour cutting more layers. She gave me a couple of styling tips and informed me that they offer complimentary bang trims, something I will definitely be taking her up on.

I honestly don't think my hair has ever looked this good. It's so bouncy and shiny! I took the long way back to my apartment to show it off and caught several admiring glances. Job well done, Eva!

I've gotten my hair cut three times here now over the last 2 years, with Mihal. I've been pretty satisfied every time. The haircut is really precise and easy to manage. However, it's becoming a bit too expensive for a student budget, especially if I just want a trim to maintain a particular look.

The service here, though, is great (you get coffee or wine, plus snacks) and Mihal gives the best blowouts! My only word of caution is to try not to go at a time where you're the first in a long line of customers. The first time I went at the end of a day on a Friday evening, and he spent a lot of time perfecting my cut. The third time I went on a weekend morning (probably the first cut of the day), and he seemed really rushed.

Had a KERATIN HAIR STRAIGHTENING treatment done here by RACHAEL CUSHING.  I was greeted and seated, immediately upon arrival, by the friendly staff, who thankfully lacked that Newbury Street Snarky Attitude.  My stylist spent the full 3 HOURS NECESSARY to apply my KERATIN HAIR TREATMENT & FLAT IRON SEAL IT IN EACH PIECE.

I've been to another Boston salon who tried to do this treatment in 1 HOUR...and it DID NOT TAKE.  (See my other keratin hair reviews)  MY ADVICE: GO TO ACOTE & READ SALON REVIEWS BEFORE YOU CHOOSE!

**Note:  I bought a gift certificate from Gilt City, $30 for a haircut and blowout.

I loved my visit at Salon Acote!  I got a haircut and blowout with Danielle  and she was absolutely amazing.  Shampoo and brief head massage are included in the cut.  Danielle did a fantastic job with my hair:  I told her what I wanted, and she gave it to me.  She's super precise, very talented, and totally skilled at her craft.  I've never seen anyone as capable with a round brush and blowdryer as she is.  She makes some conversation, but she's not super chatty, which was totally fine with me.

Danielle normally charges $75 for a cut, which is much more than I'm used to paying, but she did a fantastic job, so I'm willing to return.  Love my hair!

I love Salon Acote.  I've been there maybe 3 times in the past few years (yea I've moved around a lot) and have not once been disappointed.  As a matter of fact, I think those have probably been my three best haircuts ever.

Alex Safar did my first cut there, maybe 2 years ago, and he was amazing.  He made great suggestions, did a terrific job, and I left feeling like a super-model (until I walked out onto wintry Newbury St. and had to bundle myself under hats and scarves again...boooooo!).

Last time I went was maybe 3 months ago (so yes, I'm due for a cut very very soon).  Susan did my hair and she was absolutely awesome.  Again, great recommendations and an all around amazing haircut.  She was incredibly friendly and made me feel really comfortable.  Sometimes, since I'm somewhat low maintenance and sport ponytails more often than not,  I feel out of place at the nicer salons, but that definitely didn't happen here.  Everyone was really warm and friendly.  I left feeling like a million bucks - and luckily that time it was warm out, so I got to flaunt my super cool wicked awesome sexy hair :)

The salon itself has a great atmosphere.  It's on Newbury St and takes up 2 floors.  They have wine, coffee, tea, and snacks available while you wait (or even while you're getting stuff done).  Wine while getting my hair cut?  Uh, yes please!

I was really delaying this review because I didn't want to write it up.  I came here randomly with an Eversave I had purchased (now those are red flags for me, explained at the end) a few months ago.  I made an appointment for a day I had off and spent the day in town with a friend, I had come here for an early appointment.

The salon itself is decently set up and very bright.  There are large windows all across the front of the salon overlooking Newbury Street and the sunlight really brightens up the space.  It isn't too large but it is large enough and they have on each side the stylist stations with some seating in between for makeup or waiting.

Aside from the natural sunlight in the salon, I wasn't impressed with the actually place overall.  For me when I think of a Newbury Street salon I have this pre-conceived image of this fancy place and so it was a personal disappointment.

The back where you are shampooed did not impress me for what I was expecting to be an upscale Newbury salon.  The people working were friendly and laid back.  I enjoyed my stylist's personality and she was fun to talk to, it was the cut I wasn't too impressed with as well as the overall appearance of the salon itself.

The cut was a basic trim and it was the way it was done that I questioned.  It looked great when I left there, anyone looks great the day they leave the salon; however after that day I was not impressed with how my hair felt and looked.

I tend to not have the best luck using coupons and I should really stop jumping from salon to salon, this trip (and a trip to Dellarias) really made me realize that (since this past Saturday, I am becoming a one-salon kind of gal, see Nicole's Salon and Day Spa).

So once again got a great do from Susan, it's actually better than the last time because I finally bit the bullet and got what I've been considering for a while.  I've found my stylist in Boston..whew, that was easy.

To comment on the salon as an establishment, all of the employees I've encountered have been incredibly friendly.  As others have noted, it's nice that they offer water, tea, or coffee (though wine would be amazing).  The girls are always smiley (I mean, I'm adorable).  The place is very clean and very professional and it's obvious that the stylists know what they're doing, from what I've seen while having my own head reshaped.  Perhaps I'll consider a dye job next...

Wow, this is my first poor review I think.  Acote, you disappoint.  Well, I hate to judge the whole salon based on one woman's performance.  The receptionist gets 5 stars and the stylist should get a 1.

I needed a haircut fast.  I have an interview on Wednesday and my January short cut was growing out in an ugly mullet way.  I needed something clean and professional!  I called Acote because my friend gets her hair cut here and she loves Courtney.  I couldn't get an appointment with Courtney so I decided that I would take a leap of faith and take whoever I could get since I needed the cut so badly.

I came about half an hour early to the salon 4:30pm.  I was in the area and it was cold so I thought I'd just hang out.  The receptionist was really nice.  She took my coat and gave me super tasty peach ginger tea.  The atmosphere was good (the salon is quite small though).  All good.

My stylist, Donika as I'd later learn, sat down next to me and asked me about my hair around 4:35pm.  I expressed just wanting to even it out either in an A line or simple bob - make it less mullet-y essentially.  She said ok and expressed her concerns with my length and layers.  She said that A line wouldn't be feasible because my hair was too short and I wouldn't be able to get a nice incline.  So I'm like, alright, then we'll just have a simple bob.  Even with a bob she said that it wouldn't be a real bob because I still have layers in the back.  Still, I was fine.  So far, not a bad start - concerns were heard and listened to.  I thought we had established a final decision - a simple bob.

I was still sipping on my tea so Donika told me to take my time.  I planned to finish half of it, but she was back in a couple minutes to ask if we can start and she'll bring my tea to her station.  Couldn't she have just said that in the beginning?  Plus, having a drink where hair is flung in the air does not make sense...

Shampoo was mediocre - I got a ton of suds in my ear that she never noticed.  She never bothered to wrap my hair so I was just dripping everywhere.  Her cut was only 10 minutes.  She began to blow dry (which was way too hot - but I always think it's hot at every salon).  When I finally put my glasses back on (I'm as blind as a bat without them), I could see what the result was going to look like and I wasn't happy.  It wasn't one length like I wanted.  She still tried to do the A line even though she told me it wasn't possible.  I told her I just wanted a bob so she began to fix it...which was scary.  A lot of random, seemingly uncalculated snipping around my neck occurred.  It turned out ok...the ends are more evened out, but this was no superb bob.

Throughout the whole process, she never made conversation which made the experience dull and unappealing.  She never handed me her card so I had to ask the receptionist for her name (I only had the intention of writing a yelp review).  Needless to say, her lack of effort or socialization made me feel rushed and unwelcome.  I was out of the salon at 5:02pm.

I've been coming here for almost 10 years. That should say something, yah? These people have been doing my hair for everything from my Bat Mitzvah, to both proms, to graduations and job interviews.

I recommend Acote to everyone for a few reasons:

    - They are professionals and boy, do they do color right! I constantly get compliments on my color, how natural it looks, etc.
    - The people are great, and as you probably know, having a hairdresser you like/trust/can go back to is crucial when it comes to feeling comfortable with someone who has scissors in their hand.
    - The place itself is like a party, with fun music, drinks and snacks on the weekend, and 5 star service.

I've been seeing Jana for years now and she gives, IMO, the best women's haircut and COLOR. See this girl if you want highlights, lowlights, whathaveyou. She's also a sweetie :).

My father (yes it's a family affair) see's Richard. Also a sweetie :).

Did I mention the rest of my family goes to this Salon as well?? We can't get enough.

For historical purposes, Acote is managed by the Safar family, which also owns Safar Coiffure down the street. Acote (near/next to in French) is Safar Coiffure's sister salon and while Safar is a bustling, Newbury hair mecca, Acote is this wonderful offshoot that has become just as well loved and well known as its predecessor.

I had a wonderful experience here while using a Living Social coupon last weekend.

My appointment was for a Saturday afternoon was Devan.  From the second she greeted me, I knew I liked her.  She was very warm and super genuine which is always appreciated.  I can't stand fake conversation!  She gave me a very detailed hair cut and took the time to finish up the ends after blowing it out so she could really make sure it was perfect.  My coupon had been for a cut and blow out but after hearing that I was going to a wedding that evening, Devan offered to "really do it up!".  She spent an extra 15 minutes putting my hair in rollers and using a curling iron to give me the sexiest big wavy curls.  It turned out wonderfully.

The salon itself was filled with other young people and you could tell that everyone working there was thrilled to be there.  I didn't have any (this time!), but they had sangria, coffee, and baked yummies that they were offering.  I will definitely be back and will definitely ask for Devan.

Should be no stars but who doesn't like  refreshments?  I hope to God that Timmy doesn't still work here. Granted I went about three years ago, but A-cootie is in the top 2 worst hair salon experiences of my life.

Never having had a straight man cut  & die  my straight blonde hair before I was a incredibly freaked out.  I was on the $, he somehow managed to turn my hair green.  I have been coloring my hair blonde so long I don't even know what my natural color is.  But I can tell you that even after the color correction he did, it was still GREEN.

If my stylist Christina hadn't left Avanti for this new job, I would probably have never stepped foot in Acote.  It's pretty much your typical Newbury Street salon where people get all dressed up to go get their hair did.

It's a 2-floor salon, but the first level is a little tight--kind of long and skinny.  Great views of the street and lots of sunshine, which is great if you have a weekend afternoon appointment.  They do have weekday evening hours too, so that's a plus.

As for service, they have an espresso machine and little pastries at the reception, but the receptionist was mostly fake nice.  I didn't interact with the other stylists, but the owner seemed charming.  Apparently his brother runs Safar Coiffures down the street. Acote's best feature may be their rooftop patio.  They throw a number of parties throughout the year (with DJ and free drinks) and if you are a client, you might just land an invite ;)

The cuts are $60 but you can get a 10% discount if you are new.  I'm not thrilled with Acote's prices since you can still get a $40 cut on Newbury if you know where to go, but given that I love my stylist, it's a bit hard for me to cheat!

Just barely missed the four star mark. While my hair looks pretty good, I had a hard time believing this was the same salon that seemed so unpretentious from its Yelp reviews.

When I walked in there were two guys behind the counter, neither of which smiled or greeted me. One guy who was on the phone continued to talk away, while ignoring me. The other, who actually turned out to be my stylist, just refused to look or talk to me until the guy on the phone blatantly elbowed him.

Now, I know my pony tail might have been unattractive or even unsightly to the hair styling community, but really? I'm here to get help for my hair! There's really no need to be so standoffish or rude.

Once the awkward initial meet and greet came to a close the rest of my experience at Acote was good. Nice shampoo, nice cut, and a great blow out.

Before leaving, I paid with a BuyWithMe coupon. Wow, apparently that's really uncool, because the look the guy at the counter gave me was enough to deflate my freshly done coif. Wanting to tip on the full-price of the service, I asked how much the cost would have originally been. Again, more hair and ego deflation ensued at this point.

Admittedly, I walked away very confused. Although Richard managed to make my hair looked very pretty, the remainder of my experience at Acote was enough to take the bounce out of my step, which is half the fun of getting your haircut on Newbury street in the first place.

most pleasant 8:30 am salon experience of my life.
they indulged my hangover with coffee, fresh pastries, even offered to feed the meter and that's just in the first 10 minutes.
Danielle is amazing. I have very thick wavy hair that now has great movement thanks to her, color is perfection.
There is no better place on Newbury, especially for the price. Added bonus is the GIANT open window that looks out over Newbury and the garden out back.

I went back to Acote for another appointment with Miriam last week. Obviously I dropped a star off, here's why:
    - the coffee was still great, but I think I think I know now why they offer it- two hour hair cuts anyone? Seriously, the first time I thought it was a fluke, but Ive only just hot a haircut, no color or special treatment. After 2 hours I expect hair magic, and if not I don't have that kind of time.
    - despite touting a expertise in curls, Miriam nor anyone else there's wears their hair curly, which for me is not a good sign
    - I have a few...like four, strands of white hair. I'm okay with it, but apparently Miriam is not. She frowned and grew silent when she saw them, then proceeded to pull them out of my head and hand them to me! WTF?

Don't get me wrong, she is nice overall and the salon is beautiful and doesn't have a bitchy front desk person, which I appreciate. I don't like the overall vibe of disapproval I received, nor the fact that I wasn't remembered AT ALL by a woman who spent two hours cutting my hair ( I'm so baffled by that). Even if you don't, pretend that you do. That's part of trying to provide good service.

    Ah- the search continues.

This place was great! I bought one of those http://buywithme.com coupons for a 30 dollar hair cut. I was definitely nervous A) to go to a new salon and stylist and B) that the 30 dollar deal would have less than a the promised 60 dollar value.

Actually, let me take a minute to pause here--I have been combing through http://yelp.com and yahoo local reviews of EVERY salon in Boston. I'm an almost broke college student, but I refuse to go supercuts or anything like that because my hair is REALLY important to me. I have visited MANY salons on newbury and this one is the BEST.

The salon itself was small but well lit, clean, fun and quiet enough to relax...it was a Tuesday afternoon at about three, so it was definitely before the after-work rush. I walked in and was offered a cappuccino (which i got) or tea. It was great!

My stylist was Miriam, and I couldn't ask for a better haircut/experience. I would have paid more for the cut! She took her time, checked in with me every once in a while to make sure she was doing what i wanted, and used a lot of great techniques that made my hair look great.

Overall, perfect experience! I will be back.

I used Acote for my wedding.  They styled me, my bridal party and my mom.  Everyone came out great.  The prices were reasonable, the staff was friendly and helpful.  They even let me use the space upstairs to chill out while we waited for everyone to finish up.

The only suggestion I have is to give a little extra time.  Everything worked out but I do wish that I had started about an hour earlier than they suggested, so that I had more time after the hair appt.

I've been coming to Salon Acote for about two years now and absolutely love it. I've been seeing Alex since day one and enjoy the entire Acote experience from start to finish. From being offered a coffee/cappuccino and magazine as soon as you enter the door, to the random hysterical conversation between employees, it's always a fun time and I seriously look forward to coming here.

I always get full highlights, and my hair color has never looked better. I am constantly getting complimented on my color. My hair cuts were never daring or drastic, until the past couple trips when I've gone a lot shorter. Despite being slightly nervous, I have been thrilled both times with the way my hair has turned out.

Music is great, fun vibe, plus they throw great parties about 3-4 times a year. If you're a client, you're lucky to be invited! Fridays and Saturdays they have lots of free munchies (if that matters to you), but I prefer going on a weekday afternoon when it isn't quite as busy.

Specifically- if you are a blond and looking for a new place for highlights, I highly recommends Alex from Acote. However, I am confident that regardless of your hair type, the service you desire, or what stylist you see, you'll be happy with the results!

I *love* this salon. At $50 for my medium-length hair, it's a little out of my price range but it's quite the treat. The first time I went, I had a coupon from one of those College Student discount coupon books that you'll see around at Boston schools. My haircut then was mediocre but the hairstylist has since left. And when she did, Salon Acote actually sent me a complimentary haircut coupon, I guess to retain her clients.

The second time around, Michael Julia did a great job. I loved how light and bouncy my hair was and it even grew in very nicely, still manageable at the end of 3 months. The next time I went was about a year later, but he still remembered me and the haircut he gave me, so I didn't really have to explain what I wanted--just a repeat performance.

It'd probably be a good idea to do a reservation first. If you are a little short on cash and have a friend, their website usually has a 2-for-1 special (for haircuts only) with what I suppose is their junior stylists.

I'm about to move just around the corner from them and I couldn't be more excited.  I came upon Acote by chance - they were the only ones who could take me for an emergency blow-out late on a Monday night.  Danielle fit me in and we just started gabbing away.  Not to mention that of all the blow outs Ive gotten, it was by far the best.

She also gave me a package deal so I bought 5 blow-outs up front for $145 - if you're like me, and nothing cures a bad day like an amazing blow-out, i highly recommend it.   Plus now that I go back weekly, its like therapy, drinks  and great hair all wrapped into one.

This has been by far my best find in the city.

I won a haircut at Acote in an auction. I went once to see Susan, and I have not gone anywhere else since. I trust only her with my locks.

Susan is awesome--she does exactly what I ask her to do with my hair every time, but also offers suggestions to make it better (and her suggestions always make it look better). She loves to make hair look beautiful and it shows on my head. She does my color (highlights and lowlights) and my cuts and I have never walked out feeling anything less than beautiful. People always ask where I got the cut when it's done. Free bang trims too.

Plan to spend some time there though! Acote is not something to squeeze in on a day you are in a hurry. Susan always spends about three hours on my head, and her meticulous care is worth it.

They definitely aim to please at Acote and I always enjoy my experience--free cappuccinos, nice atmosphere, and friendly people. I don't like stuffy places, but Acote is luxury without the stuffiness--no one at Acote has ever made me feel uncomfortable, or pressured me to spend more than what I came in to spend.

I normally go down the block to Safar, but a friend of mine met a hair dresser while scrounging for taxi and loved her so much I was converted too!

I went for my first cut just yesterday and was thrilled with how it turned out.  I have a very basic doo and could potentially get my usual cut at Fantasic Sam's or anyother strip mall joint.

I always preface my cuts with "pretty much the same...just a trim but a little different in the bang area".  Generally, I see no difference but I am always content with my regular cut.

Yesterday, however, I got the exact change I was hoping for! I was pretty vague in my direction and ended with a style better than I could have ever described!

Danielle is awesome, she even blew out the hair of my friend who tagged along for free!  The salon was also setting up for weekend rager, clinets are welcome so, get your hair cut and cut a rug on their prime roof deck!

For 9am these people sure are upbeat and smiling! While I had trouble getting up for my hair cut, the employees are definitely morning people. I received a very nice greeting and was offered a cappuccino while I waited for my stylist, Danielle, to finish up the woman before me.

Now actually knowing her outside of hair-cutting, it was very easy to strike up conversation. But everyone was very personable and there was lots of laughter and conversation which was very nice and welcomed.

I absolutely LOVE my hair. A downside of being blind without my glasses is that I had NO idea what was going on until the very end, so I just had to trust I was getting what i asked for, and I sure did! This is one of the best haircuts I have gotten in a long time.

Though I had purchases a coupon using buywithme, the full price on a cut is VERY reasonable when the quality is considered. I also got another coupon for $15 off of my next appointment, and I can't wait to be back. I was also excited to hear that they will touch up my bangs for no charge between cuts! This is great news as I have yet to master trimming my own bangs.

This place is also really cute - very white and very bright and very modern: all things that I love. I know that style isn't for everyone, but it is for me. I can't wait for my hair to grow so I can come back.

I was desperately in need of a haircut, after growing out my hair for almost a year. Obviously, I searched on yelp and narrowed my list down to Salon Acote. I'm glad I went here. It wasn't too difficult to get an appointment, although I booked pretty early (about a week in advance).

The receptionist was pretty brusque to me as I walked through the door, but I've gotten used to that sort of attitude at most hair salons in Boston. Everyone else was very nice and was quick to start a conversation or crack a joke with me.They do offer you a cappuccino so that's a nice perk. The salon was tiny and it was packed with people (this was at 10 am on a Thursday morning), but I guess that's what you get for going to a salon on Newbury street.

Richard was awesome, I love my new haircut. The best part was that even though the salon was very busy, he took his time to talk to me about what kind of cut I wanted. He didn't cut it too short and was careful to create nice layers for me while saving the majority of my hair for the "Locks for Love" organization. All the while making sure that it was a low maintenance cut, as I don't have a lot of time in the morning to fix my hair before I run out the door.  The lady who shampooed my hair was very nice too and gave me a great massage during the process.

Be warned though, the process of shampooing, cutting and blow drying your hair does take a lot of time (about 2 hours). I think this was mostly because of the wait for a shampoo sink. It's an expensive salon ($65 for my haircut but my hair was pretty long). But overall the experience itself or more importantly the haircut is great and I would recommend it wholeheartedly.

One name: Vincent Cox! I've been going to Acote for about five+ years and Vincent is truly my fav! He has brought me from red to blond to black , no bangs to bangs, short to short-short and honestly I always get compliments on my cut and/or color...from LA to even Nashville, TN. He is always cheerful and talkative (not forced conversation like some hairdressers). I always leave the salon in a better mood and with a better hairdo.  Each visit ends up toping the previous one.

The salon itself is wonderful = good vibe and the rest of the staff are all friendly and personable. If you're going to get your hair done on Newbury St. this is the place to go!

After going to the same hairstylist for almost a year at Acote, Gianfranco, I was completely settled and in love with the place. I never even thought about going anywhere else since every haircut I got there was simply perfect. None of that looking at myself in the mirror and wishing that my hair was a little bit more like this or like that ... no, my haircut was amazing.

Then, at the end of last summer, I called for an appointment and some nasty words came out of the phone: "Gianfranco's not working here anymore." Okay, the words were said in the most friendly tone ever, but I was shocked.

Honestly, I didn't know what to do -- I was in a crisis. I had discovered the same day that my dad was no longer living at home since he cheated on my step-mom and had gotten a girl my age pregnant, but I didn't know what bothered me the most at this moment.

Anyway, I went on with my life, tried a couple of new "hairstylists," and after a couple of disappointing haircuts I decided to go back to Acote and try a new stylist there.

I went back last week, and while I was waiting for my appointment both me and my friend (who wasn't there for an appointment) were offered something to drink. I had green tea. We were even offered some wine a few minutes later. The staff took our coats and put them away for us. They make you feel relaxed and at home -- always friendly.

I watched my stylist finish cutting this woman's hair, and I must tell you she looked amazing, fabulous. I wanted to go up to her and tell her how fierce she looked, but I'm sure since she left the salon she's gotten enough compliments.

Anyway, my hairstylist, Mihal, took his time with my hair to make sure he perfected my haircut. He was not like other that try to cut guys' hair in 20 minutes, but rather he spent almost an hour with my hair. My hair grows in all directions and I was very relieved that he took his time to study it. Now that my hair is starting to grow again it looks even better than when I left the salon, something that only happens when I get a great haircut.

Slightly pricey? Only if you're cheap. I'd pay $50 for an excellent haircut anytime.

I took a recommendation from a roommate to come here, but had a less than spectacular experience.  It was a little pretentious, the haircut was average, and the girl who cut my hair (I wish I could remember who) tried to pressure me into coloring my hair.  I don't intend on coming back for myself.

However, my roommate is a loyal Acote client, and her haircuts & blonde color always look beautiful.  They always give 25% off coupons, which (obviously) cuts down the price quite a bit to make it affordable for the average college student.
