5 reviews for Acorn Tire
In response to Frank A's comment below my initial review: Sir, you obviously didn't do your homework correctly. If you had you would've seen the brake repair as stated in my last review and the set of four tires I purchased in the last six months. Additionally you may have also found that my relations have used your service as well and have had tire work and other miscl repairs here for over a decade. One of the families you speak of in the business owner comments. I could go on and on, but I'll stop.
Since he took the time I guess I could write an update, last visit was decent. I came back some months ago because I needed a new set of tires on my ride before selling it. It's laziness and helping the neighborhood business that I decided to get tires here. That and I'd already gotten quotes from local tires shops and here was the price and quality of tire I liked most. Firestone has always been a nuisance and it's hard to go back. Also Acorn was able to take care of me at the time I really wanted to get the tire work done. I opted for their standard grade all weather tires, since I was selling my transportation there was no need to get extra special. They gave me a quote which matched the final price, quoted some repairs which I skipped on and gave me the car at the time they promised. For that it was a good experience. P.S, its good to get the extended warranty thingy (tire insurance) they offer on each tire, I think it's $10-$15 +/- dollars per tire? I can't remember I know I have purchased that from here in the past and in one case with a faulty tire it benefited us to have that tire insurance.
Like I stated in my previous review I haven't a problem with their tire service, it's getting any other repair that has blown my mind away. And that really depends more on the associate selling the repairs I think. Those guys come and go as do mechanics, that's just a standard observations of all automotive shops. Like with any business you use for major work it's best to get a business card or try to work with the same person on a first name basis repeatedly if you liked their service previously.

In the past I've used Acorn for tire service only, with a plethora of other options for mechanical… Read more »
The management and/or owners must have changed in the last few years. I used to take my car to them a few years back and always had a great experience.
Recently purchased 2 new tires, after having installed, I experienced much vibrating while driving, so I thought maybe they didn't balance them. Also, they inspected my brakes like I asked and quoted me just over $700 for new pads front and back and new rotors in the back. (not even OEM parts)
When I initially went back about the vibrating, they told me they didn't have time for me and I needed an appointment (!@#$%&). So a week went by, I had the dealer inspect the front end, all was good, they said it was the tires.
So, I want back to Acorn - they tell me I have two bent rims. But, I wasn't having this problem prior to the tires being installed... they refuse to take ownership of the problem. It's infuriating. Instead, they want to sell me two new rims for $125 each.
It should also be noted that I had someone else do the brake work for $300 less than what they quoted me, with OEM parts.
Do yourself a favor and go somewhere else.
A friend of mine bought 4 tires with 80K warranty with roadside assistance.
The tires failed when we were on shopping run. The extended warranty people refused service. Acorn Tire refused service. 2 Good year triple treads had belt separation and made the care too dangerous to drive. The new tires were put on at 35k and the car has 48k on it now and the vast majority of its treads. Acorn won't even look at the tires let alone honor their 80k warranty or extra road side assistance. I called them he called them and we both ran into the same brick wall. Even when we called the corporate offices, we got the run around. I have a vested interest in this, because I bought the same tires at the same time from the same place.
Stay away from Acorn and stay away from Goodyear as they seem to not care at all about tires whose belts have separated from their treads.
Outside of honoring the warranty they sold him, they ought to have at the very least been concerned with safety.
I have the tires and have photographed them extensively and will post them and update this review. BTW, when I asked them to examine my 4 tires as there were the same batch, Acorn refused.
Update 12-11-08
On 12-10-08 We took our tires to Acorn and were told that the tires had obvious evidence of street racing and "heavy" abuse.
The tires came off of a 2000 Volvo with less than 50k miles. They drive about 6k per year. Not exactly a street racing car.
I no longer trust the 4 tires I bought the same week from Acorn and will be switching to another brand as well. My car has the same tires with about 25k miles on them, but given how the belts separated on my friends car and Acorn's refusal to warranty them or even look at mine makes me worry.

DO NOT GO TO THIS PLACE! BEWARE!
I was supposed to get a diagnostic analysis of what is wrong with my truck because my check engine light came on. I went in with a free coupon that is on a website. I came out paying over 100.00 dollars! Which apparently is not a lot of money according to the person ringing me up who could not speak English well.
I was expecting a computer printout analysis/diagnostic and instead I got an estimate for 760.00+!!! For this much you can rebuild an engine! They went over how my truck needed new spark plugs and all kinds of stuff. Right after this incident, I took my truck to get a simple $39.95 oil change and a new air filter and my check engine light turned off.
I went to Acorn because of a review board similar to this, but I suspect it is themselves posting their own positive feedback. Beware. These people don't have a clue as to what they are doing!
ACORN YOU SUCK!!!!!!!!!
This place is pretty honest compared to other auto places. After being quoted somewhere for over $800 on some work I needed, I came here, and they could do it under $500. After I dropped it off, they even called back to say that I didn't need as many parts replaced as I was told, so that dropped the price even more. Very friendly and helpful staff. For those in the suburbs, try their location in Hoffman Estates.

Meet the Business Owner: Frank A.
Hello, I have been in the auto industry for 24 years and have been with Acorn for 17 years. The one thing I can honestly say that drew me to Acorn was the fact that they take care of their employees as if they are family, I have worked at new car dealerships and other tire/service retailers before coming to Acorn and let me tell you the way owners and/or management treat their employees has a direct effect on the way customers are treated. We give honest prices and perform honest work.
The best thing about my job is seeing families come in for auto repairs over the years, and watching their kids grow up and bring in their cars in for service and even when parent retire or get elderly.
