I had a great experience at Acorn. Great food, good drinks, cool atmosphere, and just a fun time all around. The good things about Acorn is that there are so many choices on their menu. You can have anything from a steak to seafood, Italian fare, and Asian inspired dishes. We had mussels for an appetizer and they were very tasty. Would get them again. The seared tuna was good. Not the best I have ever had, but good! The lamb shank looked yummy to me and I would like to try that next time. Though not cheap, the prices are in line with other high end restaurants in town. Most entrees range between $23-$30.
Acorn has a really cool bar. If you are in the mood for just drinks and apps, it's a great place to chill. I'll definitely go back . . .
Located right next to Centennial Park, the Acorn was a very welcome addition to the Nashville dining scene. A huge and handsome space with a couple of bars inside and plenty of seating on all levels. I would definitely try to sit upstairs on the patio if you can, I think that's the best way to enjoy the Acorn.
I think I've always gone with a group to the Acorn, and everyone has found something on the menu they enjoyed. There's great tuna steak, great fillet, great salads to start. I rarely order wine when I go out, but the Acorn's wine list tempted me. Such a nice spot to enjoy a glass of wine on a spring or summer evening.
Supposedly it's a great place for groups with the private dining room having a fantastic view of the Parthenon. I hope I'll get to enjoy that some day.

So I finally went to Acorn to see for myself what it was all about. I've heard good and bad about this restaurant and I wanted to make the decision on my own. We had the calamari for appetizer and I had the salmon as the entree. Overall, it was just OKAY. Nothing spectacular, nothing special. It was a quiet night at first, then by 9 pm the place started to fill. I was not impressed and it really wasn't a memorable dinner. The most I remembered of the place, were the lovely paintings on the walls. That's about it. Short and sweet, I probably will not frequent this place. The menu was very short and selective and I was hoping it was more than it was....
We had a party of 6 there last night and it was excellent. The ambiance is nice with low lighting and modern, bright-colored paintings on the wall.
Our waiter was Doug, and although he was a little aloof, he was very professional. He rattled off the specials with precision and told us his favorites before we even asked him. We could all tell he was seasoned.
The drinks, to me, were the highlights. I had the pineapple-upside-down-cake martini. My mouth is still watering thinking about it 24 hours later....mmmmmm
We all shared 3 appetizers: the hummus, shrimp and calamari. All delicious. I had the potato-encrusted halibut with sweet potatoes and green beans. It was probably the best halibut I have ever had. My friend had the lamb shank that was fall-off-the-bone tender. A little too stew-like taste for me, but he loved it.
Wonderful experience. Will definitely go back. Again. And probably again.
Maybe I just came on an off night, but I was not very impressed by Acorn. We started with the calamari (which was fine) and the hummus (which was not). The toasted pita that came with the hummus was absolutely inedible. It was so tough, practically impossible to bite through!
The biggest upset of the night was the tuna. I ordered it rare (because honestly, why would you order tuna any other way?) and it came out decidedly well done. Like canned-tuna done. Gross. The accompanying veggies were the best part of the entree, sad to say.
Acorn sells itself as an upscale restaurant, but the food definitely doesn't qualify. I wouldn't come back here.
Delish!!! I was a late addition to a dinner party where my friends ordered family-style, so I have no idea what all I ate, but I can tell you that it was superb. The ceviche was just right; the sweet potatoes were perfect, the wine was up to par (and that says a lot coming from a girl who hails from Sonoma). My only complaints were that the steak and grilled shrimp were overcooked.
There was a party going on up on the roof with a live jazz band, which really made the evening perfect. We sat outside on the ground level, apparently they don't normally have tables out there. Or the band. So maybe it was just my lucky night, but I loved the ambiance and the class of this establishment.

What is there not to like about this spot?!?! I loved everything about this spot. Well, I must confess, my friends and I happen to luck out. When we go to the restaurant, the upstair patio was closed due to a private birthday party; when this occurs, the restaurant prepares several tables on the front to accomodate people like us. =] The evening was perfect because 1) the weather was perfect, not too hot or humid, perfect spring evening, 2) the live jazz band accomodated by the birthday part was fantastic! 3) all the dishes were just yummy in my tummy. We had the shrimp w/ risotto, pan seared fillet, hallibut, ceviche (*drool~), and it was all served w/ J. Lohr Cabernet.
I know all the unusual events made this dining experience a great one, but the food speaks for itself! It's definitely one of my fav restaurants of Nashville.

lamb shank was fall-off-the-bone tender, with deep, rustic flavor and Fred Flintstone portion on top of hearty peas, carrots and polenta. Delicious. Crab cakes were satisfying and also generous, complimentary shrimp creation tasting and chocolate mousse dessert were awesome, too. Service is outstanding, neat ambiance-- old house with a tiny bar downstairs and bigger one upstairs, both very cozy-looking, great patio upstairs as well.
I came here the week that they opened and encountered quite a few glitches in terms of timing, service, and food. Chalking it up to opening week jitters I decided to postpone judgement. Having gone back more than a year later, I can see that instead of being bumps in the road, it was instead of sign of things to come.
Despite a gorgeous view of Centennial Park, this restaurant nor its bar upstairs really do much to recommend it.
