I moved from an apartment in Sunnyvale to another in north San Jose last weekend.
Acme was fantastic. They may not be the absolute cheapest... But do you really want the absolute cheapest? The price was fair: $110/hour for two guys.
Frances and Eric arrived early... So early that I was not at home. They waited patiently for me to get back.
They were friendly and efficient. They treated me and my stuff with respect.
They also never stopped moving (so to speak).
My whole move took 4 hours, 15 minutes.
I have no complaints and would recommend Acme to anybody. -

Great place, crew was courteous and professional. They moved me and my family - packing up the truck and unloaded in the new place - in less than four hours. They came in on time, and the price ended up less than the quote. There were no hidden fees for packing materials, mileage, or anything else. Highly recommended.

I have moved so many times that my realtors have become some of my closer friends. In Boston my favorite movers were Gentle Giant. They are professional, work quickly and efficiently and I did not mind paying top dollar for them.
Here in the Bay Area I have been trying to find a mover like Gentle Giant. My last movers were quite good but I decided to be a good neighbor and try out a local mover in Sunnyvale.
I contacted several movers based on Yelp reviews. Acme was the only moving company that came to my home to do an estimate. Michael was professional and though his hourly rate of $220 was about 50% more than the quotes I got from other movers I decided to go with them because as I said before, I don't mind paying top dollar. Michael did agree to give me a 5% discount.
Michael's estimate for the move was 6.5 hours for a total of $1350. My last move about three years ago cost me about $950 and the hourly rate was about the same. However this move ended up taking 8 hours for a total of $1672. I asked why I was charged for their lunch break, as I have never been charged for any movers' lunch break before.
and they agreed to take off 45 minutes. Thus, the final total became $1515.
I was disappointed that the move went over the estimate because I felt these movers did not work quickly and efficiently. The best movers I've worked with in the past typically try to save time by carrying more than one item at a time while hustling. These movers did not do that. Also these movers almost left some boxes behind and did leave some plastic wrap rolls on the lawn. There was also some damage to an item which Michael said he would investigate but since I did not hear from him again I don't expect that will happen.
Overall these movers were good movers but I did not feel like they were a top quality crew like some of the crews I've worked with in the past. And since I was paying top dollar I was disappointed by this.
Before submitting my review I sent it to Michael to allow him to respond. His response was not what I expected and when I responded to his second response, he was obviously frustrated with me. He never responded to my third response.
Michael defended his company's work and said I did get top quality work. He said the estimate went over because of the rain, my kids being in the way and how we packed.
Michael also questioned my intentions for writing this review. My intention is pretty simple, to let others know about our experience. As I said before Acme is a good mover but considering they are about 50% more expensive than other movers that get top reviews on Yelp, you might want to look around. -

I'm so glad I called these folks. We moved from Palo Alto to Sunnyvale. Michael came out and bid the job (and was spot on with his estimate for time and trucks) and Paulette arranged for a piano mover to handle our piano and a statue we were moving. The guys who came out were great - professional, courteous, and just really nice guys to work with. They even helped out with some stuff that I hadn't gotten to because of a bad hip. And they took extra special care of my mother's hutch with glass front.
I would highly recommend them to anyone who needs to move in the Bay Area. -

I agree so much with the other reviewers. I moved last week within Palo Alto. Michael was right on time to do the estimate, and very friendly (and reassuring). Paulette was very good at making sure that everything went smoothly. The 2 movers I had were fantastic. They were so quick, efficient, pleasant, and hard-working, and they worked well together too. They had a challenging installation as I have a narrow staircase in my new place, and they handled every tricky thing with good cheer and not a single plaster nick and not one broken item. I recommend Acme without hesitation and will always ask them to come back for my future moves. The cost was very reasonable and I am a completely satisfied customer.

I cannot say enough good things about these movers. I have used 4 different moving companies in the last 10 years in the Bay Area, and Acme surpasses them all! I called them on a Monday for a Friday move from Sunnyvale to Belmont and they were able to accommodate me. Paulette was extremely nice and professional and took the time to assess how much my move would be over the phone (a very reasonable rate). Every moving company I have used in the past has shown up late and the crew Acme sent was actually 20 minutes early! They were fast and very conscientious of my things. The most mind-blowing thing, was when Paulette called me the next morning to tell me that I had actually been accidentally overcharged by one of the guys and she immediately put a refund check in the mail. I've never really trusted moving companies before, but this company has very high integrity and business ethics! Highly recommended!
