Big V at the bar is the best. I think he has a fetish for Californians.
Anyways, I've been to the Acme on Iberville, right downtown, as well- and this place off Veteran's is a lot better, hands down. First of all, you can actually hear the people you dine with. The one downtown is too dark, and too loud, and too busy. We didn't wait long on a Sunday afternoon lunch (I came here twice, and the first time there was no wait at all).
The atmosphere is friendlier, less rushed. I enjoyed the people siting near by, very entertaining stuff goes down here. Both times I was hear, we talked with nearby table neighbors, who were nice and open and willing to share some tips on getting around and enjoying NOLA. On my second time, Big V invited me to his part of town, I think I fell in love.
It was a good way to be welcomed in NOLA, delicious oysters. If you've never had em, try the charbroiled one. They're quite heavy on cheese and fatty deliciousness, BUT you should try anyway.
We ordered a starter of the crawdaddy tails- yum.
I got a dozen oysters, and Big V gave me five extra ones.
I also tried the spinach/oyster soup- which was too salty for my taste.
The fried oyster poboy was excellent, but I wouldn't get it again, just because the taste of the oysters really dies out once theyre fried.
Now that I've ran through all the ways you can double your cholesteral levels- enjoy. -

Order the Char Grilled Oysters, they are fantastic.
This was the first Acme Oyster House that I tried this weekend. They Oysters are really good, the Po-Boy left a lot to be desired, the Crawfish was a little bland. My friends fried oyster po-boy was much better than mine. I tried his. -

How can you go wrong with half a dozen of chargrilled oysters and a $4 Purple Haze? Add that to a welcoming, low key, picnic-like decor, and you have a winner.
Acme Oyster House is famous for its 15-dozen oyster challenge, i.e. eat 180 oysters in 60 minutes or less and have your name engraved on the wall. Luckily I did not get to witness the oyster challenge while I was there.
After having tried the local P&J oysters raw, I think that this chargrilled version is the one that brings out the best of them (half a dozen for $11.50). The huge, mollusks are grilled with garlic, butter, and parmesan cheese, and stay plump and juicy.
The fried peacemaker po-boy with golden fried oysters and shrimp, and Tabasco-infused mayo ($12.99) was also one of the best po-boy I had while in NOLA[1].
The boo fries with roast beef gravy and cheese ($4.99) are also wonderful, just to stay in theme with the artery-clogging foodfest.
Minor points:
- The kitchen closes at 10pm Mon-Thu, and 11pm Fri-Sat. That's early!
- The picnic look with checkered plastic tablecloth is cute, but serving beers in plastic cups is really stretching it a bit too much.
- It can get noisy; if a bunch of loud, obnoxious people happen to be seating at the table next to you, you're fucked.
------------------------------
[1] Still, I cannot get used to the type of industrial, limp bread that is used for every single po-boy I tried in NOLA.Listed in: Visiting New Orleans for the…

New Orleans, LA
Not as good as the one in the French Quarter
In general this is middle/lower rung seafood in New Orleans. There are much better options available in this city even if Acme does have national name recognition.
i'd much rather go to Dragos or GW Fins. -

The place definitely has a "chain" feel to it, but the Char grilled Oysters were the best I have ever had. I also ordered the Crawfish Po-Boy, which was okay, but not great. I would definitely return for the oysters!!

We had an awesome waiter who seems to have just began his shift. All our needs were taken care of. From the warm water that's a mix of scorching hot water with some ice, and a specially served Guinness from a can using a spoon to create the foam.
True to it's name, we had a dozen of good fresh oyster for a really good price.
The red beans and rice - despite the simplicity in it's name was marvelous. Good comfort food in the south and good comfort food for my lunch.
When you get an experience of good waitering and good food at reasonable prices, you have to give it a 5-star. -

I kept hearing great reviews about this place on television, friends, etc. I guess I had high expectations when I first came here. The oysters I got that day were "okay" and they were rather small compared to other places.
I had the fried shrimp platter, which tasted just plain dry and flavorless.
All i know is, there are plenty of other places around new Orleans that have oysters that are about the same price and taste better. Who knows, maybe I'll come back to give it a second chance? -

I don't know. Maybe I'm a snob when it comes to oysters and seafood in general, but I was left underwhelmed by my experience here. My friends ordered a dozen oysters; half raw and half char broiled. I ordered the seafood etouffee.
I tried the oysters, but I immediately noticed that they weren't very big. The char broiled oysters were good and had a nice buttery flavor. My etouffee was ok, but not really anything special. The prices here seem a little bit steep for what seems to be just a casual dining place.
I will say that one of my friends ordered the seafood platter, which came with fried crab, catfish, oysters and fries. It was huge, looked really good, and can definitely be split between two people. The service was good and we were seated quickly, with only about a ten minute wait.
Given the choice, I would probably go somewhere else for my oyster needs. I'd be more inclined to support a small local business, rather than this chain.Listed in: Local favorites

Acme is... ok
The prices are a little more than you would expect for New Orleans Seafood and let's be honest, you can get good seafood A LOT of places in the city without breaking the bank. Service here is lack luster and comparable to a Chili's or TGI Friday's. If that requires more explanation here you go, don't expect to see your waiter unless you are ordering or paying your bill. Someone else will bring your food or anything that is wrong/missing. The char grilled oysters are good but you can get them at other places as well (aka Drago's). For Raw oysters i head to Harbor in Kenner.
I can think of several other places I could go after eating here but I guess if you are in the area and have a craving, it's ok. -

Whenever I'm in the mood for raw or chargrilled oysters, this is where I go. They're incredibly tasty and always fresh; so much so, that I often resent having to share. I strongly recommend that you order a dozen chargrilled oysters for yourself!
Once I'm finished eating, it's hard to walk away from the empty shells still loaded with that mouth watering buttery concoction; so the only solution is to ask for more bread and soak up every drop!
The staff deserves a huge shout out for being so much fun, they treat you like family & it's fascinating to watch them work their magic behind the grill.
Overall, I give them a 5 star rating on quality & service and would recommend them to anyone craving well seasoned seafood served with flair. -

I was in NO on vacation and got a recommendation to go to Acme from
the hotel we were in and it was well worth the drive over. We got the gumbo (which I thought was a little thick) but was still tasty. The shrimp étouffée was delicious. My boyfriend couldn't stop raving about it and decided we had to go back the next day. Since everything else on the menu was fried, I got the smoked sausage po-boy which was also really good. Our waitress was really nice and the manager comped our gumbo because my hush puppies didn't come out in time. We will be heading back to try the charbroiled oysters. -

THE OYSTERS ARE GREAT but nothing else on the menu is even close.
Last night I had the Acme special po-boy and it was average at best. I've had the 10 napkin roast beef and it was ok but by NOLA standards below average. I've got the New Orleans sampler (maybe it's called something else) with jambalaya, red beans, and something else, maybe etoufee' (its been a while on this dish) and all three were MEH?
The food here is not terrible or bad but it is not good or great either. I go a lot bc my wife likes the oysters and that's all she eats. There's a ton of fried food on the menu but if you want something else get the oysters or expect something average. -

Two words...Charbroiled Oysters!!! First time I've ever had oysters prepared the way they prepare them and it was amazing! The restaurant was nice and lively when I visited and the waitress was very helpful when we told her we were visiting from out of state. Its a very casual place that has a comfortable vibe to it that makes you feel at home. I love their seafood and will definitely come here again when I visit Louisiana!

I have eaten here many times, virtually every time I am in New Orleans and flying home. This is where I stop.
They have a great selection of oysters to try including, po boys, fresh, and chargrilled. The gumbo and red beans and rice are very good.
The people are very nice.
However I went there with some work colleagues and had a better meal there than I realized they were capable of making.
The menu cinsisted of blackened drum, excellent charbroiled oysters, well spiced boiled shrimp, jambalaya, and red beans and rice
There was a couple seating next to us that came here from Baton Rouge fir their bread pudding. This is close to a 2 hour drive. So we thought we would give it a try. It was truly incredible. I do not even like bread pudding, but this one had a rum sauce that was divine. -

Something about fried oysters on top of a bed of fresh greens that makes me very, very happy. Let pretend it's healthy even though it's deep-fried!
I love the raw oysters as well!! they also do a nice jambalaya. -

I was craving delicious seafood & Acme satisfied my burning desire!
I sat at the bar and received fabulous service from Katy & Chelsea. I dined on the Seafood Boat, which consisted of lightly fried oysters, catfish & shrimp...all for $11.25. The oysters were good, except about 1/3 of them left an unchewable remnant that I had to discard (discreetly, of course). The catfish and shrimp were fresh & crispy with soft, delicious centers. Of note was the sweet-spicy cocktail sauce! It had just the right amount of heat from fresh horseradish. Another ramekin of this spicy goodness, please!
Service was super fast too! Thanks to Acme for satisfying my craving! -

There aren't that many GREAT places around here to get GREAT charbroiled oysters, but this is definitely one of them. I'd say I've had one bad experience out of the 5 or 6 times I've been here... and it wasn't the food - just the service was very slow.
Last time I came here, I sat at the oyster bar and it was entertaining watching the guys chuck (or however you spell it) the oysters and goof around. -

Adam Richman from The Food Network's Man vs Food visited one of these Acme Oyster House for the raw oyster challenge. I wasn't about to attempt that challenge nor indulge on any raw aphrodisiacs. I was on travel mode and the last thing I needed was to have to drop some loose New Orleans muddy stools.
However, I will highly recommend the char-broiled oyster appetizer. Although the shells are huge, the oyster itself is pretty petite. What they lack in size, they make up in taste. Definitely dip the soft bread in oyster ooze.
Everything else on the menu practically comes fried. What a big surprise right? I had the lightly battered and fried catfish with steamed veggies. That was like their healthiest option. Although it doesn't sound and look like much, it wasn't too shabby.
Again, just wanted to see what the hype was about. If I'm ever in the area again, I would only return for the oyster appetizers and that's about it. Nothing fancy or out of this world though. -

The raw oysters were delectable. That's the reason I would return. Acme is on the noisy side; the restaurant was completely full for a Wednesday lunch. There were lots of tables where the seafood was piled high...very high.

We tried the one right in New Orleans and then tried this one and I thought this one was so much better!!!! Chargrilled oysters are a MUST GET. they are so AMAZING. we ordered a dozen and they brought us out 18 so that was even more AMAZING!
I got the fried shrimp and catfish platter - the catfish was seriously the best catfish i ever had!
jambalaya was pretty good, could use a little more spice.
the creole was very good as well. it's a little more tomato-ey than i'm used to but i'd definitely get it again. -

So, I came here on a recommendation from a friend during my first visit to NOLA.
I may not be as experienced in the seafood arena since I'm a Dallasite, especially when it comes to oysters, but I really enjoyed the raw oysters here. Not terribly large, but were very good. It was my girlfriend's first time to try raw oysters and she liked them as well, so that's gonna mean something right?
We split the Captain Mike's (I think?) Fried Platter, which is intended to be split by 2 people. Uh...we split it, then took home leftovers, and split that too. So try 4 people. Seriously it is a ton of food.
Acme isn't cheap, but glad to see they've branched out from being a tire and anvil manufacturer. -

Somewhere between "meh" and "ehhh, ok". This place was boring, I was underwhelmed by the menu selection. The decor was a special brand of suburban depressing, the bloody mary was strong but the mix was gross.
The oysters (raw and charbroiled) were good, but if you want to get the best charbroiled oyster experience, Drago's is the way to go. -

This location is usually my top choice to go to. They're located in an area with plenty of parking spots. And their wait for a table isn't as long as the french quarter location.Listed in: I Want Oysters.

Do NOT do take-out! The service is horrible, the servings are TINY, and don't even bother attempting to speak to a manager.
I've been to Acme so many times and came out satisfied. The service was great. The food was hot. Then I tried take-out. I was jonesin' for some ettoufee and sweet potato fries. I should have known something was up when it took two people to take my order. I was told to come in that ettoufee takes five minutes. I showed up in ten and still had to wait twenty minutes! The minute I got into my car a started eating my fries. They were cold. I get home ten minutes later and the rest of my food is cold. I had no utensils or napkins. No receipt either. So I called to speak to the manager, April, only to be left on hold for ten minutes.
So disappointed. So not going back to give them $25 dollars plus tip (for take-out!!!!) for two items, that were cold.
That was some hard ettoufee to swallow. -

I love Acme Oyster Bar. I love raw oysters. I hate BP and the fact that 3 trays of oysters cost me 60 bucks.
The food was as expected, good. There oysters were really small but they compensate by giving you 18 when you order a dozen. The crab bisque is really good and I'm fairly sure it's a soup of the day at times. If you can they have Abita S.O.S, which a small portion from every one sold goes to helping with the damage to the shores. In my opinion a worthy cause and a good reason to raise my glass and drink. So if you get down there get one or 4 and help save the shores one beer at a time! -

Come to this location( not the crowded tourist locations) and sit at the Oyster bar. This is where the locals come for their oysters fresh shucked before your eyes. Get great conversation, local updates on the Saints and entertainment as these people work!
Our buddy, Ernie L., born and raised in this fabulous area recommended us to this location. Boy, was he right! The char broiled oysters with a cheese pesto sauce came to us still bubbling from the grill! Fresh, Raw Oysters as only NOL can serve!
Lagniappe-(a freebie, something like a thirteenth doughnut to a dozen) is given at the oyster bar! Just tip the man for his hard work! -

This place was hopping for dinner. I don't really eat oysters so NO RAW oysters for me. But we had the boiled/baked oysters for the appetizers which were actually really good (2 dozens of them). The oysters were a big small, but they were tasty! Dip your bread into the sauce!
I had the New Orleans sampler also...red beans and rice, gumbo, jumbalaya, etc. Service wasn't too bad. Check it out if you're in the area for the oysters. -
Review from Ken K.
Second time I've been to Acme in three years. I think it was better this time around for some reason.
My friends and I shared a dozen of the chargrilled oysters. Very flavorful. Just fun to eat.
The boo fries sounded good on the menu, didn't look very appetizing when it came out, but were fantastic when I tried them. Who would have thought gravy and cheese on fries would work so well together?
I had the Catfish Pontchartrain platter. The catfish was lightly fried and the crabmeat and butter cream sauce toppings were great.
The seafood gumbo was awesome. All of the flavors were great and it had the right amount of thickness that I love and expect from a gumbo.
FYI, this location isn't as busy as the one in the French Quarter in case you don't feel like waiting. -
Review from Tamara M.
We tried to follow the GPS to the 110 Veterans Memorial location with no luck. I'm almost positive the place we visited was much closer to building number 3000.
Our visit to Acme was after a long drive from Alabama on Superbowl Sunday...yes...the Superbowl Sunday the Saints won!! We were there before the game started, but everyone was geared up for the game. We sat at a hightop near the bar. The atmosphere was festive and lively; service was prompt but not overly friendly. There seemed to be a good mix of locals and visitors.
The oysters on the half shell were definitely the highlight. They were big, succulent, and pretty reasonably priced at $10.50 for a dozen. The sauce had plenty of horseradish kick. My seafood gumbo was not hot enough, and although it had lots of shrimp, was a bit salty. The soft shell crab my partner had, on the other hand, was excellent. The side of hush-puppies was steaming hot and delicately flavored.
The meal was accompanied by a cold goblet of the local Abita lager. Acme didn't convince me it was much more than a standard tourist stop, but the experience was a-ok. -

Solid option for lunch on Veterans.
Raw oysters were good. Charbroiled oysters were good. Gumbo was very good. What more can you ask from an oyster joint? -

If you want to escape the F.Q. crowds, and find yourself in Metairie (I hate the Causeway exit... my goodness, finish construction already!)... Acme Oyster House could be a good choice. Acme's chain-restaurant-like atmosphere is also perfect for entertaining out-of-towners with kids, as was the case today for lunch. Broiled oysters - plump and delicious - but for me, I couldn't down more than 2 of them. Too much cheesy oil! The menu is mainly fried seafood, of course, with some other staples like crawfish etoufee, red beans, po'boys, grilled chicken, hamburgers, etc.
Casual, good service, and quick seating are all positives. I just wasn't jazzed about the seafood gumbo and the fried oyster po'boy was lacking some stuffing. -
Review from huong t.
we grabbed a bite to eat here at 9:30 pm on Fat Tuesday so maybe thats why the food and service werent that great. for starters we got the sampler platter which came with onion rings, meat pies and buffalo wings the best out of those 3 were the wings in my eyes. the onion rings were cold.
since tomm is ash wednesday i wanted some meat so i ordered the boo fries which read roast beef gravy and cheese it was all gravy with no bits of meat at all :( as our entree we ordered the capt mike seafood platter which came with fried oysters, shrimp, fish, crab, hush puppies and potato salad. the fried oysters, stuffed hush puppies and potato salad was yummy.the housemade tartar sauce is good but a bit too much onion for me.
our server never really came over to check on our table she would holler to us from behind the bar? for a quick bite our bill for the 3 of us was $75. i would expect those prices downtown not out in the suburbs.
