We were driving back to Houston from New Orleans and wanted some good Cajun food....we made the right choice!

The chargrilled oysters were good...we aren't big on cheese but still enjoyed them.

The jambalaya was delicious and the gumbo was solid.

The best part of our meal was dessert.  The manager convinced us to get the chocolate caramel pie and the bread pudding and they were both delightful. The bread pudding was hot and melted in your mouth and the pie looked ordinary but was awesome.
Service was good too...we were joking that its worth the three hour drive back for the dessert!

Did we leave New Orleans, then stop here on the way back to Texas just an hour later for an oyster fix?

    Yes we did.

Another few rounds of chargrilled oysters, and yes with an Abita. The staff was so nice and friendly too!

Just went here recently for some drinks and appetizers and enjoyed it. Great college game day specials on huge beers, and some good snacks as well.
Would like to try it again and have a full meal.

Ate here last night for first time. (10/11/11) How disappointing. I had the shrimp po-boy. The shrimp had a dry dry batter that was too salty. The hush puppies where small and unflavored. I will save my money and go to the place I usually get much better food. (I can't name the place but it is my ore-game gameday hangout).

This place was pretty good.  My colleague and I had a couple of Abita amber ales, which they serve in frosted glass chalices.  Unique touch, but the chalices are MF heavy!

This is an oyster joint first and foremost, so we went with orders of raw and char-grilled oysters.  This was my first experience with Louisiana oysters, and I was very surprised with how good they were.  The raw oysters were large but sweet, and the topping they put on the char-grilled oysters was delicious.

For my entree I had fried catfish with fries and hush puppies.  The hush puppies were disgusting, and the catfish and fries were only decent.

Service was a little slow for a place that was only 1/3 full.

Never having been to the New Orleans original, I don't have a point of comparison other than my discerning palate. And, although I don't eat oysters, my palate was pretty satisfied with the other food at Acme Baton Rouge.

I had a 1/2 Crawfish PoBoy and a cup of the Crab & Corn bisque. Both were good, although the poboy wasn't as flavorful as I've had at other places. The bisque was really good, if not a little salty, and the hush puppies were awesome! It's hard to find those in Houston, though, so I'm always super psyched to find some good fried dough. :-)

The service was good on a very busy night, and the atmosphere was bustling and vibrant. I'd go back again.

Everytime I visit home, I make sure the Acme Oyster House is on the list of stops. Went there this weekend with my mother, aunt and wife. I ordered the half and half loaf oyster/shrimp and could hardly finish it. But damn, that went down good. My wife had the seafood platter, as did my mom and aunt. We all left very satisfied and the service was excellent.

I concede there are other local and reputable seafood places in BR. ( Don's, Ralph and Kacoo's, Drusilla, etc) However, Acme has emerged as my favorite through the years. That still won't preclude me from visiting those other establishments, though.

Also, anyone who eats at Red Lobster while visiting Louisiana deserves a kick in the behind, lol.

[DISCLAIMER: I'm not a "portion size" guy.  If it tastes good, then I LIKE IT-- i don't care if its only a single bite. However, If it is bland, then its even more obnoxious it its a plate full of stuff.]

And the latter sentence describes my experience at this Acme Oyster House.

Started off with the raw oysters.  Very good price for 12 oysters.

But... VERY NON-EXISTENT taste.  And there was noooo liquid in them either.  :-(  Very weird and circumspect.

Also had the fried oyster po' boy (half portion) with the chicken gumbo.

JESUS CHRIST, no wonder people here look like "that".  My po boy was piled about 8 inches high with fried oysters.  I must say, the oysters were seasoned well -- salt is important!  So maybe the fried oysters are the way to go here.... The gumbo was (just) better than average but the rice that was dumped on top of it came straight from the microwave.  Again, another item with absolutely NO TASTE.

Total, it was about 3 lbs of food on that plate. I mean, how could I even eat the bread that the po boy was served with???  Just plain ridiculous.

In the end, I walked out of here feeling like I do when I leave the Cheesecake Factory (when one of my family members DRAGS me there): TOO MUCH FOOD, NOT ENOUGH TASTE.

How can you say anything bad about this place?  There is nothing like pulling up a chair to the cool marble bar and having fresh oyster shucked right in front of you and handed to you to eat.  The oyster are briney and flavorful.  My only constructive criticism is that the premade cocktail sauce is not my favorite.  I would prefer if they offered you horseradish and ketchup and let you make your own.  However, after a little tinkering, I got the sauce the way I wanted it.

The Peace Maker is an amazing poboy with fried oysters, fried shrimp, and tobasco flavored mayo and the obligatory pickles on the side.  Match it up with the sweet potato fries and you've got one heck of a meal!

Also, the service at the bar was very friendly.  The waitstaff introduced themselves by name and and asked mine- and remembered my name on a return visit. That's southern hospitality for you.  This is my Sunday pig out favorite.

Some of the meatiest, best shucked oysters I've ever had!  Seriosuly... I downed 2 dozen raw in about 3 minutes.

Also tried the Craw Puppies... they were good, but nothing out of the ordinary.

Great oysters.  And a solid choice if you're in the area.

I'm a huge fan of the one in New Orleans. If I can't make it to New Orleans this one is good as well.

They have delicious oysters! Fried, Char grilled, raw, in soup, in vodka (a/k/a as oyster shot -LOVE it) ...

These Char Grilled Oysters are almost as good as the ones in New Orleans .., they are progressively getting better.

When I go here I hardly order anything but oysters! ... Wellll the sweet potatoes fries are YUM and so is the bread pudding.

I order more oysters than should be allowed for one person.

LOVE the frozen mugs you get with the beer ... Of course when they are busy you don't get one :(.

So if it's busy I generally have a few oyster shots.

The Cole slaw, hushpuppies, gumbo, notation salad, and fried fish .... All OK ... Not Great..

The grilled fish is usually good ... Cooked perfectly.

The grilled and fried shrimp are always all very well cooked and seasoned.

If I get a po-boy I generally get 'The Peacemaker' with extra Tabasco mayo and a side of Tarter sauce and cocktail sauce (they use fresh horse radish and Tabasco in their cocktail sauce -it is sinus opening goodness!!!).

I ate there last night and here I am 10:30 am ... Less than 16 hours later ... And my tummy is craving a trey of raw on the half shell!!!

Nothing is healthy except the raw oysters and a glass of water! 85% of the menu was deep-fried. The food was not good and the service was absolutely horrible.

The crawfish Etouffee tasted like it was made, packaged & frozen in China. Then boiled in a bag and allowed to sit in a steam table all day before it is pour over rice and served. This is what they call PRE-FAB.

The menu is exagerated to 2 full pages but could be consolidated to a single side of a 5x7inch note card.

There are many much better places to eat in Baton Rouge!

This was my first (and probably last) Acme Oyster experience. We had 7 people in our party. We got fried oysters, fried crab claws and char-grilled oysters for the table. All were pretty good. For my main course I had the marinated grilled shrimp platter and was not impressed. The marinade was sweet, almost a teriyaki style. I think a garlic butter marinade would have been much better and more along the lines of what I was expecting.
I was driving from NO so I got there after our party had already been seated, but the girls who went there early waited for an hour for the table. I don't think I'd ever wait that long for food at Acme.

Some decent food, just not the best overall.

If you eat here, there is one thing you have to get: Oysters. The raw are the best (although cocktail sauce sucks, you really don't need it). And the fried are some of the best I have had.
The soup of the day when I ate there was corn and crab chowder. Delicious! Wish I had gotten a bowl instead of the cup.
The Peace Maker poboy my brother got was good, but I would have preferred just a oyster poboy for the oysters were the best part.
The meatpies were terrible. Like hamburger helper inside fried dough.
The redbeans and rice was yummy, but not the best ever.

Recommend going for the oysters and the soup, but not for much else. Will definitely go back to try the gumbo and banana foster cheesecake and to of course get more raw oysters!

It's the best seafood I've eaten ever! And I loved the atmosphere--as casual as it gets. They have a large sit down dining area and a separate bar. We went on a weekend night, and the place was packed. After a wait of about 20 minutes, we were seated by our super-friendly hostess. Though my friend said he was bothered by the people chatting loudly at the next table, (we were seated so close, I felt like we were one party!) I didn't mind much. We had the chargrilled oysters for appetizers, with bread, and I ordered the uber delicious catfish Pontchartrain, which came topped with crab meat, shrimp and butter cream sauce, and cost  about $16. We polished off the oysters in a blink, and I don't think I talked much while eating the main course, which speaks volumes about the taste :)
I can't seem to remember what my friend ordered--perhaps some grilled fish--but anyway, I do remember that he was pleased with his dish too. I'd definitely go back there again.

Terrible. WAY overpriced and just simply terrible food. I'd eat at at McDonalds before I'd eat here again--the food would be better and you wouldn't wince for a week when you sit down. Getting reamed isn't a pleasant dining experience.

I was visiting LSU for the weekend for a friend's b-day and decided to go to Acme for some seafood.  Service was good, but food was mediocre to me.  I ordered the seafood salad and was a bit disappointed.  There were only a few lump crabmeats and various seafood pieces but the majority of the salad was wilted greens.  I also had a small crawfish etouffee... it was decent, different from the famous etouffee that the Chimes have but that's probably because Chimes put a lot of heavy cream and Acme focuses more on the roux... which is a good thing!  We ordered 8 dozen of raw oysters which came out cleanly shucked and fresh.  The 2 dozen of chargrilled oysters were not that great.  They were greasy and barely had any garlic flavor... all I tasted was cheese.  I think that Drago's, which is the original creator of the chargrilled oysters, hands down still supersedes any other restaurant in Louisiana.

So overall, I might go back to Acme for their raw oysters & etouffee.  They can have a more extensive wine list by the bottle too though :)

I LOOOOVE me some chargrilled oysters, and now I can get them in BR. ACME is consistent in what they serve, and pretty traditional. Fried seafood platters and oysters. Hard to go wrong with that.

Maybe when they're just roping in tourists in New Orleans they can get away with the underwhelming food, but I am shocked to find out they made enough money to expand their operation to Baton Rouge. We had the fried crab platter and the crawfish poboy and both were disappointing. The crab was just so so, but the poboy showed that their heart just wasn't in it. If you want better french fries, better poboy bread, better seasoned batter and seafood go to the Chimes instead, or Chelsea's, they're both five minutes from Acme.

Sorry Folks, If you've been to Acme in NO, don't bother with the BR location.  The atmosphere is off and the service is poor.  You feel like you are in a Friday's or Bennigans, not a New Orleans Oyster Bar.  The oysters were good, but a bit expensive, but the Gumbo was horrible, we both ordered a bowl and both were cold and tasted bad.  Etouffee was also.
We told the waiter, but they still charged us.  Not a good move, we will not be back.

i picked up a seafood salad--15.25 plus 3.00 tip.  it consisted of 4 crab claws and 6 medium shrimp and a lot of lettuce--bigest rip off i've had in a long time.  manager said to come back and he would give me a free meal--i asked for my money back.  todate i have not heard from him.
