My hair stylist Ana-Maria moved to a different salon.
Finding her wasn't as easy as I thought. With the help of some really nice stylists at Acme, I was able to find Ana-Maria's new location..Thankfully, she only went across the street to Echos Hair Design. Very convenient!
Ana-Maria AKA Bambiana is now running her own business named, "Bambiana for Long Hair," which you can find on yelp http://www.yelp.com/bi....
When it comes to my hair and make-up only Ana-Maria is able to always make me feel sexy. She truly enjoys her profession. Her style is always well detailed , which achieves a very soft feminine look.
Thank you Acme stylists for guiding me back to Anna!!!1 Previous Review: Show all »

San Francisco, CA
I booked an appointment for Saturday April 19th at 4pm with a fellow named Dorian.
I show up at 3:52pm and I see there is a customer getting her hair done by a lady hair stylist. No other stylists in sight and all the other hair booths are empty. I am early, and the blow dryer is blasting at full speed, so i just take a seat along with two other waiting customers.
About 20-something minutes pass, and the clock reads 4:15. I'm a patient person... The lady gets done with her customer and greets the other two waiters (clearly these are regulars). She seats them and then asks me if I've been helped. I said "No, I have a 4pm with Dorian, it's my first time here." She says, "I'm so sorry about that, he is just finishing up with a customer and should be with you shortly." I said, "Ok. Thanks." She did offer me something to drink as well, which was nice.
Anyway, I'm sitting there waiting, like a straight chump for another 15 minutes. And no sign of Dorian.
So guess what? I got up and left! Yup! I reached the ACME of my patience. This is not the only salon in the city! This is a perfect example of terrible customer service. The owner of this salon really should invest the minimum wage it costs to pay a receptionist!
At 4:55 pm, Dorian calls me (by that time I am already 5 blocks away) and says "I'm so sorry about the delay, I cut my finger really bad." I said "I hope you feel better. Goodbye."
If Dorian really cut his finger, I really hope he is okay, however I would really have appreciated a phone call earlier in the day notifying me of any delay. And the 4:55pm phone call should have included a complimentary future appointment for any color/style.
I feel like a chump that I waited so long. About 30-40 minutes of my life was taken from me today and all because I wanted to get my hair done!
The price of beauty!
The end. -

Gosh how I miss my healthy, shiny, thick pregnancy hair! It's been 6 months and I finally was able to get away and treat myself to a haircut. I needed it BAD ...at this point my hair had thinned out from the drop in hormones and the luscious locks which were once there are long gone.
I logged onto Acme Head and Body and scheduled an appointment with Ana. She is the only one I trust cutting/styling my hair. (straight typical black Asian hair) I was extremely bummed when she emailed me that she was no longer working there. However, she said for now she makes house calls until she finds another salon to work at.
I was a little hesitant to have her come to my house to cut, however I worried for nothing. Our appointment was set for noon and she came 15 mins early! I had my hair washed and tied up in a bun so it stayed wet. I set up a small area with enough lighting for her to work. My 6 month old baby was sound asleep in her room and there was no need to find a sitter.
she snipped away and we chit chatted the entire time...
then came the blow drying ...styling...and voila!
The end result healthier...sexy...and bouncy hair! I felt like a million bucks and I haven't felt this good in a long time. Motherhood can sometimes make you feel a little frumpy ...it's a good thing Ana is a pro at what she does!
Can't thank you enough! Cheers till next time!1 Previous Review: Show all »

Does everyone fall in love with Ana? Or is it just me?
I went to Ana when my long, fine, wavy hair got too long to manage. I still liked the length, though -- one of the many things she got right about me. Ana asks great questions, and she really spends time getting to know you and your hair. That makes a difference -- as does the time she devotes to cutting hair exactly right. My new cut works beautifully no matter what I do with it. I haven't been able to say that for years.
It doesn't hurt that Ana is personable and funny: a great person to trust with not just your hair, but an hour-plus of your life.
Ana is so good at what she does that mentioning her beauty almost seems beside the point. -

I just had a haircut and blow dry by Holly today and ended up with AMAZING results!
It is impossible for me to find a stylist that listens to what I want and also has the knowledge to tell me what would look best for me. I am always hopping around to new stylists in search of someone who can give me what I'm looking for. SHE HAD IT ALL! I told her I liked my length, and she kept it. I told her I wanted a full look, and she gave it to me! The blowout wasn't just an average blowout by an average stylist, she STYLED it and it looked so beautiful. I am amazed that she gave me such a great cut and style and shampoo in just 45 minutes! She was so efficient! Now I have a great cut for the holidays, thanks to her!
Holly is stylish, edgy, sweet, and so down to earth! The experience was so great and smooth, I will definitely be returning to see her again!!! Thank you HOLLY! -

Ana cut my mid back length hair. She did a great job, and blew it out very nicely. What I like about this place is that the hair never looks wispy (asian) but when blown out, looks like nice chunky layers. Great place to get long hair cut.

Carol Anderberg has been the guru of my hair for 3 years. She gets hair, and does it right every time. Each time, I leave her chair feeling like a million bucks. If you're looking for a new hairdresser, look no further; call Carol, she won't disappoint.

Just got a haircut from Ana-Marie and I've gotta say, she doesn't disappoint. Not only was she sweet and fun to talk to but she she turned my blah, soccer mom hair into something light and sexy. Ana-Marie specializes in cutting long hair and she's especially great with Asian hair. She's passionate about what she does and it shows in her work.

Yet another vote of confidence for Ana-Maria, Acme's #1 hot betch. I've been to a number of stylists over the years, and while all of them had ideas on how best to tame my thick, coarse, unruly hair, Ana-Maria is one of the few that actually *understood* my hair and knew exactly how it behaved and how best to deal with it. She doesn't even start cutting until you've had a good conversation about your hair, from what you like and dislike about it, to what you want to do with it.
Ana-Maria is amazing, and Acme itself is a great, well-lit, breezy, comfortable space. And you can't go wrong with a salon that offers free wine. -

After getting slammed with an unexpected $90 bill for a dude cut last year I decided I needed to ratchet things down into a more reasonable price range. I found Acme through my mobile Yelp app -- as I'm a last minute, needed a haircut yesterday for occasion in an hour kinda guy. Gerardo picked up th phone and I've had two cuts from him since at about half the price and am happy with the results (took it a little longer on the top than previous cuts). He does a thorough job so prepare for an hour or more in the chair -- but he's always ready with a beverage to take the edge off.

I love Preston! Preston and I started our "relationship" about 3 yrs ago and I couldn't be happier. I found him via Yelp and haven't looked back since. He is a great listener and really has an eye for style and color. He always has a smile on his face and consistently does a great job on my hair. There are very few people I would trust with my hair and I would recommend him to all my friends... and maybe even strangers who ask about my hair!
The salon itself is a really cute little place. Closest parking is probably Sutter St Garage up the hill, there is usually always parking in this lot. The staff there are very friendly but generally leave you alone once they know who you're there to see. Someone almost always offers you a drink right away and they are not pushy by trying to sell you products. -

So some of the stylists here are cold and a little rude, but Ana-Marie is awesomeeee! She's so warm and friendly and puts you right at ease, like she's one of your girlfriends.
I have really long, straight asian hair that's great if you want it to look sleek, but boring if you want to switch it up and do anything else to your hair. Ana-marie specializes in long hair, and she will give you the sexiest haircut of your life! If you want hot, Victoria's Secret Model hair, with lots of volume and waves, look no further! She really takes her time cutting tonssss of layers in your hair--it's been a long time since I've had my hair done with this many smooth layers in it. -

I was going to a wedding and seeing a lot of old friends, and I wanted to look good. I heard about Holly at Acme from a co-worker, and decided to forgo the my old barber shop for a salon cut. I am sooo glad I did.
First of all, I have nightmare hair for a stylist. It's coarse, very curly and thick and tangles very easily. Usually a trip to a barber is full of painful tugging just to get it all combed out, not so with Holly. She treated my hair with finesse and respect.
Holly was also very friendly and I spent the whole time talking to her, which made the cut go by in no time at all. When it was over, I didn't want to leave. When I left, I left stunned by my wonderful new hair style, and I didn't want to stop looking in the mirror.
She asked me about what I wanted my hair to look like, but I could only give her a vague idea of how I wanted to look, and she exceed my expectations of how my hair could behave. It was a perfect style for my personality, because it wasn't overly styled (as I am a simple man), but was exactly the length and texture I wanted and I walked out looking younger and slimmer. Thanks Holly!
Highly recommended! -

I am incredibly lazy when it comes to hair maintenance and I can never manage to make an appointment months in advance - luckily for me, I found Acme on Yelp. I was able to make a next day appointment with Carol.
Carol is great. She didn't try to hair-shame me even though my roots were disgraceful. The color she did is excellent and I LOVE my sassy new cut.
Great atmosphere and charming stylists. -

Acme loses a star because some stylists there are cold/unapproachable. However for Ana-Maria she deserves the whole 5-STARS!!!
If you have long hair, Ana-Maria is your go-to girl. Having virgin hair from growing out my old perm, I was very particular who and what was going to happen to my hair. I have never been to a "high-end" salon, but so far I'm very satisfied.
Ana-Maria started off my appointment asking questions. I did not know how to put it into words, but she was able to understand me. I did a all over color with highlights. I had a concern that highlights would look tacky, but Ana-Maria made it so it was just shades lighter than my all over color. GORGEOUS!!
It felt like I was there all day with her. Not knowing what kind of work I wanted to be done, Ana-Maria was really patient with me which made the 4 hours I was there very pleasant. She is fun to talk to and has many stories to tell. Even though there is no television, Ana-Maria makes great company.
Did not have enough time to get my hair cut/styled, so I had to make a second appointment. The return to Ana-Maria was so worth it. She fixed my hair!! The last stylist I had made my hair very choppy. She was able to make it flow and frame my face beautifully. Ana-Maria and I agree that my hair looks good now, but better if it was longer. So I am growing out my hair even longer and will be making another appointment before the holidays for "FABULOUS" hair. -

My girlfriend has long, fine Asian hair and has been struggling to find a good stylist for well over a year. When, I had longer hair I went to ACME and got a great haircut, so I naturally made the recommendation to her. This is what she has to say:
Ana-marie gave me one of the best haircut experiences I've ever had. When I got in, she gave me a strong consultation and great tips on how to adjust for personal hair issues. Then she just did a fantastic job of layering my hair and taking out a ton of weight, while keeping my hair sexy and long.
It's so hard to find a stylist who can really deal with long Asian hair, and I can happily say that I've finally found one! I highly recommend Ana-marie to others as on top of all the great styling, she is also super nice. -

First and foremost, Ana-Maria (Bambiana Bombon) is the BOMB! She is the best hair and makeup artist I have ever met and a lovely sight to see as well. She works her magic like none other and Acme feels like I'm right at home with great synergy between the staff and stylists, creating the perfect recipe for achieving the best hair style you could possibly imagine. Ana always listens and being the great artist that she is, she intuitively gives you what your hair needs the most even if you don't even know it. Thank you, Ana!! I love you always and forever!!!

- easy to schedule last-minute-panic-haircut appointments online. I found Acme because of their lovely online scheduling ability.
- Union square location means a fun excuse to go shopping for rad outfits to match the fresh haircut
- Holly is awesome! When I first moved here, I just asked her to copy my prior haircut because I was so nervous about someone new working with my finicky short hair. She did a great job and now that I let her do whatever to my hair, and I always love it - and get tons of compliments. Plus, her stories are hilarious. -

Clifford did my hair and make-up for my City Hall wedding and the result was great. He used temptu (airbrush) for makeup - it smelled rather nice and looked great. Even better, it lasted the whole day without touch-up. I even got rained on as I was shooting my wedding pics in the Japanese Tea Garden and yet, my hair and make-up still looked perfect at dinner time.
Price was great too. Since my wedding was not a huge affair - just City Hall and a family dinner, Clifford gave me a break on the price and he was the only one who was willing to do so. All the other make-up artists I contacted quoted me prices from $600 and above.
If you are looking for a great hair and make-up for a party or an important dinner, make your appointment with Clifford! -

Made a quick stop in town for my hubby's office party, and Clifford Hashimoto was able to squeeze me in for an updo. Not only did he complete it in about 15 minutes flat, it held all night. I only wish we'd had time for makeup too (although Maria at the Macy's Lancome counter helped with that). If you need an updo for your holiday party, Clifford's your guy.

I've been coming to Acme Head & Body for a couple of years now and can safely say I've never had my hair cut as well as Preston cuts it.
My hair is difficult to cut (cowlicks, etc.), and in the past I've found that I'm typically on the receiving end of a cheap, shoddy job or an expensive haircut that changes every time and is never what I asked for.
Preston is absolutely fantastic. It's tough to find someone who cuts men's hair very well, and Preston is that guy.
Absolutely fantastic haircuts, great service, and a great group of people. I cannot recommend Preston or Acme highly enough! -

I decided that afternoon I needed a haircut and Yelpers informed me this place had online booking. Went to the website and got an appointment for 5 PM with Matthew. He was really friendly and easy to talk to about what I wanted in my cut (nothing too major...just a little update). He took his time cutting and styling, even though everyone else left and we were the only ones left in the salon after 6. My hair looked fabulous and continues to look great at home with my own non-professional styling skills.
It's amazing what a haircut can do to make you feel better.
Check out Matthew at Acme! -

Time flies when your looking good! I have been visiting Carol for like everrrr and I have never been disappointed with the cut. She is a complete sweetheart like really she probably bakes apple pies and visits old people on the weekend...and let me tell you its a nice reprieve from your run of the mill overly obnoxious oh so couture hairstylist (you know it gets deep out here in SF)... The salon is cool, 5 stars for the Sofia Loren bathroom homage.
The best trait in any hairstylist is the ability to listen and Carol has got that down, I think at my first appointment she lets me ramble for a good 20-30 minutes. Which means allot to a hair snob like me! Carol is easy to get into at the last minute especially for someone like me who realized that 'I NEED MY HAIRCUT TODAY!!". Oh they have this cool website appointment booking we-are-so-in 2011 thing, that is easy-speezy, too.
Overall great f-in' job my friends....now get your hair did! -

I have lived in SF since 2004 and only recently have I found 'the one' stylist who can make me look my best. I am single and she highly suggests that I keep my hair long and sexy and she is right! I look and feel good with my long hair. She cuts it in a way that my hair looks sexy for a very long time. And I have difficult to cut and style coarse Asian hair. I love her. Ana is a great stylist and a great person. I always leave the salon in good spirits. Thanks Ana.

I was looking for a hair stylist for my wedding day. I met Clifford and he seemed really nice at the beginning so I booked him.
I was very disappointed at the wedding day since he was so short with me and rude to my make up artist! I booked my make up artist before I met Clifford and obviously it bothered him because he does make up as well. When he was done with my bridesmaids and I, he took the chair he lent to my make up artist (who was awesome by the way) in a really rude way.
I except from an artist in the biggest day of my life to be patient.
I didn't like the hair style and I think I deserved a different one especially after paying $150 for 15 minutes of him working on my hair.
He kind of ruined my day and will never forget him because of that. -

A Love Affair with a Pair of Shears
Specifically Matthew's new pair of long shears.
Well, that sounded kind of dirty, but really, it's clean! Oooh, soothing snipping sounds. I know I sound like a psycho, but the whole hair cutting experience was just wonderfully therapeutic from the shampooing to the actual cutting.
I was getting my before Lunar New Year haircut because it's what I've been doing my whole life. I waited pretty last minute this year because I just couldn't decide where to go, but I would like to pat myself on the back for a choice well picked. *Pats back*
Decor of the salon is retro-chic and I loved all the vibrant colors.
Matthew was very attentive to what I wanted in my haircut and would add constructive comments without making me feel like I was a complete idiot with no hair sense whatsoever - there are places that have made me feel this way before. :( Not here though.
Another thing that is a plus in my book is that Matthew is a great conversationalist. Not awkward, creepy, or boring. He'd probably be someone I'd hang out even without the prospect of needing him a haircut.
Finally, my finished product - love my haircut. Bouncy, fun, and I feel 10lbs lighter and no longer look like I'm wearing a bell on my head.
Thanks Matthew. :) -

This salon is so great! Went to Carol based on a friend's recommendation and was definitely not disappointed! Carol listened to exactly what I wanted, was super friendly and knowledgeable and gave me the haircut I had hoped to receive in about 1.5 hours.
The salon is small, kind of hidden on Sutter + super cute. It's a little expensive, $75 for a women's cut, but definitely worth it + a very pleasant experience! -

Clothes make the man, and hair makes the woman.
C'mon ladies. Forreals. Guys don't care what you're wearing. They just care how long it's going to take to get it off.
But hair. They think about what it'd be like to have a fistful of that gorgeous, silky hair (http://static.px.yelp....), while you have a mouthful of...yeah you know.
I made an appointment with Wes to lighten my hair color a bit, and he happily obliged to my request, along with his own wise advice to maintain a natural shade (http://static.px.yelp....).
His consistency in work ethic shined through as he sectioned, highlighted and blew out my hair as last time (http://static.px.yelp....). He even gave me suggestions to how I could achieve the salon look at home, along with helpful tips to hair cuts suitable for my face shape and personal style.
In addition to his amazing skills, he was very attentive and offered me additional magazines and a beverage when I was waiting for my hair color to set.
When Wes was finished, I was so breathless by the beautiful results (http://static.px.yelp....), that I booked a haircut appointment with him immediately, despite never having my hair cut by another.
Stop dressing like a ho to get noticed. Wes's magic does the trick.
Case in point? A guy asked me out when I was crossing the street afterwards. And he was still driving in his car!1 Previous Review: Show all »

UPDATE: Kimberly G has moved to Jackson Place Salon http://www.kimberlyg.com
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ +++
This review is LONG overdue. Nearly a year ago, I won a drawing for makeup, cut, and color from Acme. Preston and Kimberly were fantastic for accommodating two cuts instead for my sister and me. We are both regulars now for life!
Both stylists deserve a VERY SOLID five stars.
I'll start with a review of Kimberly. First, let me tell you that I have curly hair and have never had any luck finding a good curly hair expert. I've Yelped it and Googled it to no avail. So hopefully if I say curly hair enough, some other nappy head in need of an expert stylist will find my review.
Curly hair, curly hair, curly hair, curly hair, curly hair, curly hair, curly hair.
When I told Kimberly my problem of finding a stylist who could cut my hair how I liked it, rather than jumping to and assuring me she'd give me a cut I'd love, she paused and ASKED: "What EXACTLY are you looking for?" I explained precisely and she delivered. That's my perfect stylist.
Now when people compliment me on my locks, I don't hesitate to send them Kimberly's way. I even keep her cards in my wallet to hand out for times like these.
My review of Preston is actually a review on my sister's behalf. You may be asking, "Why the hell are you reviewing Preston for you sister, Imp?" and to this I reply, "Because I won the cut from Preston and let my sister use it and so I own their relationship forever, Buster!"
My sister is very low maintenance day-to-day when it comes to her hair. She has wavy hair that when untamed, can frizz like cotton candy. She explained to Preston that she would never be able to recreate an elaborate stylist do, so keep it simple and manageable.
BOY DID HE! He cut her hair into a perfect little wavy bob that practically styles itself in the morning! And during the initial consult he made some comments about the shape of her face and how he could compliment it with a certain length. This guy is very talented and knows his stuff. He also has the warmest personality that makes you feel immediately at ease in his chair.
Kimberly and Preston - I can't recommend you highly enough!!!

Change is a good thing.
As much as I loved being a blonde, I decided it was time to go back to my roots, dark as they are. The upkeep was annoying.
So, I found myself here today, and Wes (http://www.yelp.com/us...) did my color. He is AMAZING!!! He truly has a gift because he did it with such ease and the color looks fantastic. I basically told him what I was after and let him go to work. Sometimes when I've gone darker it looks like a flat wig but he somehow put some dimension in there and it looks really natural.
The entire process was really quick and I'm so happy. He even made my wavy hair look good by drying it with a round brush (I'm all thumbs). Check out my profile pictures for the after color.
Even though he's in the city and I'm in Dublin, he's worth the trip on BART, and anyone who knows me knows I'm cheap, so Wes is that good! I added two pictures, check them out!!
I'll definitely be back. :)
p.s. the salon is on the second level, right near Grant on the same side as the Paul Frank shop. If you take BART, it's a quick walk from Montgomery. -
Review from Janice C.
I have OCD.
It's my hair.
I'm very hesitant about trying just anybody when it comes to hair, so the decision to try out Wes at Acme Salon took a couple of months. I waited until my bangs were almost to my chin. I waited until my color had faded to a stylist's nightmare. I waited for more recommendations from friends before coming to Wes.
Wes started on time (a plus!) He makes you feel comfortable with that friendly smile, immediately followed by a "can I get you something to drink?". Together, you go over options for hair color/cut and asks you about your daily routines. He wanted to make sure that I walk out of this salon with not only a bangin' hairstyle, but also a satisfied customer.
Acme uses two color brands and the one we choose is Davines. (a european line with a company premise of creating hair products using natural ingredients. This company also uses renewable energy sources in their laboratories.) Wes talks about what he's doing in each step so you're not just sitting there lost and wondering "what is he doing?" I really love the red in my hair, so we kept that but he brought it closer to my natural dark brown shade, lightened it up and made it more copper-like. The end result: a fabulous color that complements my skin tone so well! He cleaned up my layers and bangs, but nothing too drastic since I wanted to keep my length. You know what? I've been sitting on this review trying to put my experience in writing the best way possible and really, there isn't anything else I can say except: you have to try Wes for yourself.
Acme has a convenient online booking system so scheduling a hair appointment is a breeze. (wow, no waiting on the phone listening to hold music!) Wes has convenient hours, he usually starts around noon and you can book an appointment as late as 6pm! Parking is also not a problem with the Sutter-Stockton garage ($2.50/hour) a short walk away.
With all these pluses listed above, you really shouldn't have an excuse NOT to get your hair done at Acme by Wes. Soon.
Unless you're OCD about making excuses.Listed in: I can't pay my rent...

Review from Patty P.

I have a goal to grow my hair as long as I can until it drives me absolutely insane and then I'll chop it all off. My life goals are very deep and meaningful. So far it's been going well, but I reached a point where a trim was necessary.
As usual, Wes took amazing care of me, cutting off only what was necessary to make my hair look healthy. We touched up my color as well, taking it a little lighter for summer.
Wes also let me know that he is moving, which means that my time at Acme Head and Body is up as well. From now on, I'll be seeing my fave hair stylist at Sammy Oliver Salon -- just a few blocks away so no big change there. I spent my first 3.5 years in SF searching for someone who could do my hair the way I wanted it, and now that I've found Wes I'm not about to let him go! Anyone else out there who is still searching, book yourself an appointment stat (http://www.wes-pine.com/)!Listed in: 24 Hours of Fame

Review from Nobu K.
San Francisco, CA
This review is meant specifically for Kimberly Givsan's magical scissor skills. She is no longer at Acme but you can find her at Jackson Place Salon http://www.kimberlyg.com !
Basically, I have nothing to do with the place not just because I have straight hair and I am straight man.
But I am writing this review on behalf of my GF's experience who has curly hair and hasn't had ANY luck finding a good curly hair expert, as Ann W's situation.
I have one thing to say...
SHE IS REALLY HAPPY FOR THE 1st TIME!!!!!!
I am with her for last 6 years but she has never been satisfied like this before.
And I am happy not only because she is happy but because she looks GREAT!!!
And I have one more thing to say...
THANK YOU, ACME!!!!
I don't think I would ever go their to pay 75 bucks to cut my FXXXin' straight hair but my GF told me that was a great deal. Means that she paid a lot more before and got nothing.
And I Thank to Ann W. for her recommendation.
Please read Ann W's review for more details.

I just could not ignore and not writing about the place seeing how happy she is, I just had to review it.
