This place rocks! The freshest and best ingredients make the best sandwiches ever at this place. The service is super friendly, the prices are good. A neighborhood staple.
I do wish they had more seating options! It's impossible to go with more than one other person because you won't be able to sit down. -

If you're looking for good pastrami and corned beef, Acme Deli is a competitive option in Mac-Groveland. I enjoyed my pastrami sandwich here for lunch, with tender warm meat and just a pleasant hint of brine. I wish there had been more meat on the sandwich, since a traditional New York style pastrami sandwich is piled eye high with meat. But for what I paid, I felt it was reasonable. My lunch companions spoke favorably about the tuna sandwich too, and there are plenty of vegetarian options too!
Service was quick and polite, and even though they had run out of the potato roll they were more than happy to substitute wheat. Overall, an excellent lunch but be warned, it's a tiny store front and gets pretty crowded at lunch! -

Great small diner. Wonderful selections of bread, meats and veggies. The subs are not expensive and well worth the price. There is only 3 small tables to eat there however.

Great sandwiches! The ingredients are SO fresh and I love how easy it is to get exactly the sandwich you want. The shop is tiny (it's really best to take out or do delivery) but it's actually kinda cool how simple it is. No frills, just great food.

So i just went to Acme for the first time since it came under new ownership and i have to say the experience was a complete disaster. First off, my sandwich looked like it was made by someone who had never even heard of the concept of a sandwich before. They gave me a ton of salami, but it was all stacked together on one side of the sandwich. Then on the other side they did the same thing with the pepperoni. They just grabbed the meat out of the package and put it on the sandwich as is. Then i got cole slaw as a topping. It was like they just put a a half teaspoon of that on there.
Second, the chili was awful, and by awful i mean extremely bland. It tasted like i was eating nothign more than some tomato juice and ground beef.
Last but not least, the service was horrible. There were only two people in front of me and i waited 20 minutes for my horrible meal.
This place has been a fixture in the neighborhood for a long time now, so this new owner better not screw it up! Maybe it was just a really bad day there, but that was about as bad as it gets. If that was my initial experience at that place i guarantee i wouldn't be coming back.1 Previous Review: Show all »

Okay, so i have to be honest here, the first thing I noticed about this place was the smell. It smells like a butcher shop. You know, that raw fresh meat smell? So don't say I didn't warn you. That being said, you should totally check out Acme. I was craving Jimmy John's, but am so glad we went here instead!
This place is tiny! It really is a deli, not a restaurant. There are very few (cramped) tables inside and it was busy when we went in the middle of a weekday. There are a lot of people working there though, which was surprising for such a small place. But it was nice cause we got our sandwiches super fast! You get this card to fill out with what you want on your sandwich and any side items you want. This is great for control freaks like me who don't want their order messed up. I got the turkey on a white hoagie with sprouts, lettuce, tomato, mayo, provolone cheese, and bacon!! yum! Everything was very very fresh tasting. The turkey had great flavor. I was a little disappointed in the bacon, cause it was that dry brittle crumbly piece of bacon that looked and tasted like a giant bacon bit. But, it still added nice flavor to my sandwich, just don't expect fresh cooked bacon is all.
We also got a soda and a brownie. OMG. the brownie. the best brownie i have had in a really long time. I wouldn't call you crazy if you went here and just got the brownie. In fact, I would recommend it. After all that, it was only $12! quite the deal for lunch for two.
This is a great neighborhood spot for a quick lunch. Def. stop in.Listed in: Twin Cities, 55105, Sammy Time!

The best thing about Acme Deli is how simple it is. No goat cheese + avocado + almond + another ingredient "you have to Google on the spot because you don't know what it is" sandwiches here. Those are all fine and dandy but Acme is what it is... A lettuce, tomato, onion place. Such are the enjoyment and comforts in life these days whene you can get the basics done right.
Also you won't be shelling out the mulah here. Get this- One sandwich, a bowl of soup, a bag of chips, two drinks, one cupcake, and one slice of cheesecake... a fresh, well made lunch for two that was under $15!
Great value for some well made deli action that'll fill you up. -

Great catering service. They have "party-sized sandwiches" for $1.45, including tax. They served up my array of sandwiches on a platter that was overflowing. Mayo packets on the side and even a whole bottle of mustard. My order was ready by the time for pick-up and they even had time to make me a grilled cheese & tomato sandwich. Good stuff!
Hours are limited to lunch time only. -

Acme is a solid, consistent deli. But truthfully, nothing more. Let's accentuate the positive though, eh?
Sometimes a simple sandwich is exactly what you want. Fresh ingredients, plain bread, maybe a Snapple. Acme, in that sense, is highly functional. Their bespoke sandwiches, made according to your careful selections on a small order form, allow the customer to pick and choose to his or her liking. Sandwiches are prepared pretty quickly and at a very reasonable cost. A fine selection of juices, sodas, chips and cookies sit in a fridge and the deli case, ready to be added to your bag. Sounds good. But:
The sandwiches, so conveniently assembled with your choice of filling, are boring. A deli is a deli, granted, but it's hard to justify a lunch here when Cecil's is so close at hand. The seating at Acme is truly scarce and the hours are minimal. Instead of providing the opportunity to make whatever sandwich one likes from a selection of ordinary ingredients, I would love to see a little additional curatorial and culinary effort. How about some more interesting spreads or sauces? Different prepared meats? Unique sandwiches? Acme is flexible but only within certain limits.
If you're tired, hungry and don't want to think, or catering a function where the food must be inoffensive, or maybe had some exotic spicy food the night before and are yearning for a return to basics, Acme does their job flawlessly. But for an added dash of character, I can't help but wander elsewhere. -

Went here for lunch today and I liked the simplicity of it. So many times now you go into these delis and they don't have that old school corner deli feel anymore. Well this place puts it back together with the help of fresh sandwiches, paper plates and a great staff.
I'll be back one day to try a few with the cream cheese like Sarah mentioned... -

I am a fan of their little yellow checklist!
Really, I am a misanthrope who likes turkey and swiss with pickles, onions and crazy black pepper. If I can get this on pumpernickel and keep the talking to a minimum, I can be devoted to your deli.
Acme, you work for me. Your people are nice, your sandwiches are sufficient, your prices are good, and your location is ob-kay-b.
And now I'm hungry. -

Terrific little deli to grab a sandwich, or order from for delivery.
I love being able to quickly check off the bread, cheese and toppings that I want on my veggie sandwich, then hand it off to join the queue. Gets crowded during the lunch hour, but generally seems pretty efficient.
The sandwiches taste fresh and delicious, and it's so cheap!
Love this place. -

Smashed in there!
Visited Acme on a recent lunch break to pick up a sandwich. I knew it was going to be small, but it was really small. I said, 'hey, we can sit on the lawn chairs facing the street and eat!' We of course did not.
I ordered a sandwich with - turkey, ham, Havarti dill (mmm), pickles, lettuce, tomato, and cucumbers on caraway rye. It was good, but nothing great, except the size. I was surprised at how much they really stuff on there.
The counter service was fine, they have a real operation going, and I enjoyed writing the order down so if something was missed, it wasn't my fault. I would not go there during the winter, there's no place to wait.
It was fine sandwich and can of pop at $6 something, but it's too cramped to not be irritated while waiting or eating with all those people in there. -

I'm a huge fan of Acme Deli.
The veggie sandwiches are always fresh and crunchy (and gigantic), and the sides are tasty. The cole slaw, in particular, always seems to hit that perfect consistency that you can just never duplicate at home.
My wife and I have settled into the habit of swinging by before a long drive out of town. Heading up north or driving to Madison always begins with a stop at Acme. Try it - when you get hungry two hours outside of the Cities and the only place to stop is a Petro, you'll thank me. -

Came here for lunch today after a coworkers suggestion and I am glad I did. Simple food with great quality, what else do you need. I asked what was the most popular sandwich and the girl told me the Italian so I gave it a try. It was really good with a perfect amount of meat and cheese. Sandwich chips and a drink for $6.72, better than Subway and you are supporting a local business owner.
Small little place that can get a little crowded inside at times, but on a nice day like today you can sit outside on the sidewalk. Cant use credit cards, but they can run an ATM/Debit card for a $0.99 fee and give you change back. A little weird, so bring cash.
Will be back to try some of there other sandwiches. -

This place is my office's god-send. It seems like every day around 11:30, we get into a heated conversation about where to get lunch. Acme is the place we can (almost) always agree on. Their sandwiches are simple, but they give you lots of options, and the ingredients are super-fresh. Good prices, too.
The roast beef with cream cheese sandwich is the best. But really, I'm just happy that this place allows me to not have to explain (again!) to my coworker why Chipotle sucks. -

This place is a wonderful Mac Grove treasure. Their sandwiches are excellent - made with care to your specifications! There is a lot of selection for vegetarians, and it is hard to get bored! Service is always friendly, and best of all, they deliver!!!

My husband makes fun of me for constantly saying "its the simple things in life..." but its true that the simple things are the best and Acme Deli is one of those things. The ingredients are fresh, the breads are delish and you build your own sammy so if you don't like what you end up with its your own fault. I find the service to be friendly and the music to be good. I usually take my sandwich to go as there are only a few small tables. I also order the "half-sandwich" which ends up being way more than a half, and with all the goodies I choose there its more than enough to fill me up for lunch. I love Acme.

Whenever I'm back home visiting, I make a point to grab a sandwich at Acme. It's nothing fancy, but their ingredients are always as fresh as can be, resulting in a "simple" deli sandwich that puts all other competition to shame. Though, it seems like their prices go up every time I return and scope the menu. Either way, the staff is always nice, personable, and tip-worthy.
If the sun is shining, take your sandwich to go, park yourself on a bench along the Mississippi, and remind yourself of all the things that make St. Paul so incredibly pleasant. -

Ahh, Acme Deli - such a great little spot!! It's nothing fancy, that's for sure, but sometimes all you need is a good old sandwich. And that's exactly what you get here - a fresh, delicious sandwich!! You just go on in, fill out a checklist with what you'd like, and you're all set. The breads, meats and veggies are always fresh and the food is so reasonably priced!! It's the perfect to-go sandwich place. The only way they could improve in my book is if they got a fountain for their beverages instead of just cans - I'm a huge fan of the fountain diet coke.

This is a great place to stop by for a quick bite or for cheap lunch. I have friends that live a few blocks away, and we stop here often. It is a hole in the wall, mom and pop, only three tables to sit at, you can see them slicing various things from twenty feet away, made to order, simple ingredients, kind of reminds me of my mom's sandwiches, ridiculously cheap, lots of character, neighborhood staple. The service is very fast and every time I stop by here there is a rotating crowd of people getting their sammie fix. My only complaints are that sometimes there are inconsistencies with my order, but I also feel like that is part of the charm of this place.

I used to really enjoy Acme, and would originally have given it four stars (I would hit it up 2-3 times/month for lunch). However, this place really seems to be going downhill under the new ownership. The changes are subtle, but there are several negatives I have noticed. First, they are much slower . . . and at lunch, this matters. And it doesn't help when you look behind the counter and two staff members are giving each other backrubs. Completely inappropriate, and actually kind of gross. And while I am accustomed to a little sass at Acme, the new staff goes a little beyond what I want to deal with in the attitude department. Second, things just don't seem as fresh. The bread, the veggies. Maybe this isn't related to the new ownership, who knows, the bottom line is that the freshness is a lot of what brought me in there in the first place. Finally (and I will give you fair warning that this may seem nitpicky) three times since the change I have ordered a sandwich with sprouts, paid for sprouts, and ended up with lettuce as a replacement because they were out of sprouts. While I understand running out of things, you should probably tell your customer, and you should definitely not charge them for it!
I really hope that they figure things out, but until they do I will definitely not be the consistent customer that I was. -

After hearing my friend oooh and aaah for nearly a year, I finally tried this out. There's nothing quite like a real deli. All the ingredients are so fresh. Dill Havarti is my favorite cheese and I love that it's an option here. The chips and drink selection is as good as a convenience store, but cheaper. Options abound. Warning, your sandwich may arrive as a towering four inch creation, so choose your ingredients carefully. It's easy to get carried away. I'm already dreaming up the next concoction that will end up on my yellow sheet...

After living in the neighborhood for more than 2 years, finally got a chance to try the Acme Deli due to their new Saturday hours. Big hit with both my husband and I. I loved my spinach salad sandwich and brownie, my husband said he enjoyed the chicken noodle soup and custom made sandwich. Tasty, affordable option for a relatively quick lunch.

Review from Joe I.
I like this simple little place, but it can be a challenge to eat at because it has such odd hours. And, the guy who is commonly behind the counter walks that line between funny grumpy guy and complete a-hole (usually does a good job of staying on the good side of that equation) which can also throw you off, but the soups and sandwiches are tip top and its fun to wedge yourself into the tables (the place seats 4 comfortably but has seating for 8) and watch the comings and goings of this active place. Acme deli is one of those neighborhood secret kinds of places...only those "in the know" are aware enough of their deliciousness and crazy hours to patronize the place. Good eats - worth the trouble.

Very nice, small hole in the wall, local sandwhich shop. Nice fresh ingredients & good value. They do a lot of take out. I can often score a seat at one of the half dozen small tables to eat in. The "kitchen music" is older R&R but not too loud, suits me fine.
