Great atmosphere, location & enthusiastic NY Giants fans. The place is small and it got quite crowded during the playoff game.

    Free BBQ? What?!

Drinks are cheap, bathrooms are (relatively) nice, and you get a cuzzi w/ every beer!

I WANT TO BE A PART OF IT - NEW YORK, NEW YORK!

Was there on Saturday for the 49er's game (kick ass game!). The place was packed, there was no where to sit, the people were loud and intense! So for a sports bar it was perfect. One of the few times in SF I felt like everyone in one place was having a great time (except for this one sad Saints fan).

They have a bucket of 5 16 oz buds for $12. So it was a great time. I will probably go back on a regular night and see how the crowd is then.

    Oh, Aces.

The only NY bar in SF.

I discovered you at 10 A.M. last April 2011. I walked by and not only were you open, peoples be sitting in 'yo chairs! If alcoholism was an Olympic sport and I was hyper attracted to Bay Area plumbers and welders, I'd have walked in!

When the sun did dip below the Golden Gate- I strolled into your doors. Markus, the bouncer is a hot ex-Marine. If that's not enough, they serve ML in a can in a koozie!

The crowd does get a little like what I imagine being on a cruise ship or living in Flushing, NY is like... BUT. You know. At least they're real. Unlike the rest of the men who pervade SF, the bearded PHD students in their mid-thirties who use their readin' skillz to avoid adulthood (read: GETTING A JOB!).

Go here. Order food in. Meet people. Be kind. Tip well. Have fun.

This is a dive but if you are a die hard NY sports fan and need to surrounded by real people with real personalities....aka....not the fake I like everyone Cali persona this is the place to go and get recharged with NY / NJ accents and attitudes.  It gets crowded though....not for the faint of heart if you are going there to root for the other team and def not a kid's place!  Go NY Football Giants!!!!!

I heard about Ace's from my father who heard it mentioned on Q104.3, a classic rock station out of NYC. It was the week before the Giants-Niners playoff game in San Fran and two weeks before he and I would fly out there to surprise my aunt for her 70th birthday. We made it a point to go here the night we flew in, so after getting settled at our hotel, we grabbed a cab and went over for a few beers. I was expecting it to be bigger, but its smaller size grew on me. I must say that I didn't really feel "at home" at the New York themed bar, but I felt very comfortable nonetheless.  There were mostly locals there it seemed and the bartender was actually from Boston, with an obvious accent, which was, of course, ironic. The bar itself is "L" shaped and small but there weren't many people there that night so we found spots right away, probably because it was pretty early and on a Thursday. Beer selection was great, spirits stock looked well kept, and after a beer or two we walked down the road a bit to Pearl's Deluxe Burgers, on a recommendation from our friend from Boston.

What better way to kick off the Halloween weekend than meeting up with friends for a pre-holiday DYL party at Ace's. Kristina always knows how to pick them and that's why I come back for more.

The drinks were nice and cheap. Special of the night was Sailor Jerry Cocktails, which I added Diet Coke. Low on the Calories and only $3.

I had a great time mixing it up with my friends and meeting new people. You can meet a lot of friendly folks dressed up like Wonder Woman, but I think it's not even the superpowers - it's just a friendly local bar.

Came in to watch a few baseball games this year. Sports Memorabilia including actual Yankee Stadium seats were all over the place which was a nice touch.

BJ's were $8 - Bud and Jameson which is rather reasonable with domestic beers also being about $3 to $4. They have the package for basically all sports teams with the focus being New York and Boston teams.

I recommend the place if you are in the area - particularly if your looking to watch a ball game.

A great choice by Kristina A, to host a pre Halloween shindig at this location.
Solid not too divey dive bar.
Drinks are simple and considering the location well priced.
The setup and design is solid, and not totally shabby as in most dives, actually looks like some thought went into the place.  Clientele is diverse - makes this place a solid choice between the TL and TD.

While on the night i happened upon this place there were some interesting costumes - the vibe of the bar was such that regardless of your costume or street clothes choice it was ok.

BTW - best costume seen here - was "the angel" - which I maintain - would be far more awesome if she got rid of the wings and went as cocaine.

This may be the shortest review I've ever written because all I have to say is that this is the greatest place in the world. I moved to SF three weeks ago and I already feel like I'm at home when I walk in, get a hug from the door guy, high-five the bartenders as they put my drink down, and immediately begin a heated discussion of sports/politics/general drunken banter with whoever is sitting next to me. It's one of those places where you mean to go in for one drink after work and end up staying for 2 hours.

I don't know where I'll be living in 5 or 10 or 20 years but I know that Ace's will be getting a Christmas card from me for the next 50

Good sports bar- it is more reminiscient of a place you would find in NY or DC. When I went, it was packed with Wisconsin fans. Who would think a middle of the road time would have such a following here in SF. Anwyay, I will return here, preferably without all the Wisconsin people in the place...

Called ahead to find out if they were going to have the Badgers' game on today, and they said yes. I arrived, only to get some serious attitude from the bartender. He said that they absolutely weren't showing the Badgers and instead the Giants. Not only did he lie, but he was rude about it. No excuse.

Me and my Wife wandered into Aces when we were in San Francisco on our first ever visit to USA. Marcus, who was behind the bar, made us feel really welcome and was interested that we were from Scotland. Pretty soon we were talkng to regulars and having very interesting conversations about sport (what else is there) politics and the different States purchase taxes. All good fun. The beer was good and varied as I like to try local brews and the Mrs was getting into different whiskies! Pretty soon I had worked my way along all the draught beers and bought a "Get your Asses to Aces" t-shirt! A lovely, friendly, interesting place that we both would love to go back to! Cheers!

    Ace's is a great staple.

I always have a great time here and there are a ton of interesting patrons. I have seen one particular patron there a few times. He calls himself Mr. Miyagi, and so does everyone else. If he is there you will definitely notice him and may even be lucky enough to have a conversation with him.

They have a full bar, good beer on tap and are reasonably priced. The jukebox has the full Dazed and Confused soundtrack which is really important to me.

    I'm always happy to visit.

Bars like this are the reason it's so easy to be lush-tastic here in San Francisco. It's combination of cheap drinks, insane hours (I think they're closed 3-4 hours a day), and proximity. Killer combo!

The usual Tendernob denizens, Cheerslike regulars, and legendary characters haunt this dimly lit space. Did I mention the free dogs and burgers they provide on certain game days?

I love that bursting into song with the whole bar singing (Think: Manly musicals) is not an uncommon event.

It's a comfy, cozy sports dive that you can easily slip into like a worn pair of jeans. Don't expect more than it is and you'll have a good night.

This place is perhaps the greatest bar ever created by man.  This is not an opinion, this is a fact.  Lets go over a few things:

    1) This is a New York Yankees bar, but is managed by 2 Bostonians.  Let that sink in for a minute.
    2) Read #1 again.  Bigfoot bartending here would be less of a surprise.
    3) Good drinks, super cheap.
    4) Miyagi....dude is always there and is a legend.
    5) The staff here is awesome, super friendly funny as hell, makes me feel like I am back home in NY (minus the Boston accents)

Seriously, if you are in the area and dont stop in here, let me know and I will call your parents and let them know what a disappointment you turned out to be.  Nice big TV's, sports are always on, darkly lit so that I appear better looking than I actually am.  Ace's, if I weren't married and I could feasibly date you, guess what, I would.

I met up with an old event partner and we decided to go to Ace's for a few drinks and catch up and hear the latest.  It was a Giant's game day and I'm glad I arrived a little earlier to save us some seats.

They've got a pretty good happy hour but it only applies to well drinks and Bud cans.  I was in the mood for a snakebite (regularly priced), which game in a 20 oz size.  They used a non-Wyder's cider which was fine, and a single sip helped to whet my palate.

The bartenders here are pretty friendly and Ace's is a dog-friendly bar.  That means they're welcome inside to enjoy the game with you and your buddies.  Just be careful that they don't get stepped on because it can get kind of crowded in here.

Not great. This is the kind of place that is only fun if you come with at least 5 other people or you know everyone that works there. Someone brought in a tupperware dish full of ground beef and I assume someone was bringing chips later or something. My friend and I kept getting the feeling like we were interrupting a private party though nothing was reserved and no one said anything. Overall just weird and not any place I intend to visit again.

oh and tons of creepy looking guys who don't have nearly enough guts to actually talk to women but just a smidge enough to stare at you like a psycho.

My husband and me went to this bar last night to watch the Bruins/Canucks in game 6 of the Stanley Cup, being from Boston you know who we were cheering for. The bartender, Mike, is a fellow Massachusettsian so he too was in full support of the Bruins and keeping our drinks flowing. This bar was a lot of fun! It was BYOF ( bring your own food ) but that it just that much more unique.

This is a great sports/Boston bar with extremely reasonable prices. If you want a fun atmosphere to cheer on your favorite teams I highly recommend Ace's.

Great place to grab a low key cheap ass beer and people watch.

This is a typical low key SF bar that attracts a diverse crowd. It seems busy enough that I would even call it a "happening" place for what it has to offer.

Cool location, good beer, great prices, chill environment.  Kudos for being open on Christmas.

I visited this place on vacation last year while following the New York Mets play the SF Giants.  This place is a NY transplants dream, it is covered wall to wall with NY memrobillia mainly paying homage to the Yankees and Giants (The NY Football Giants).

The owner Scotty is awesome and will go out of his way to make sure you have a great time while in town.  And how can you not love a bar that barely closes.  I was in San Fran for 5 days and I spend each one of them opening the bar at Aces and closing it out too. 2am is way too early to close, especially for those of us from NY.

Drinks are cheap and they even had their own BBQ to feed all us New Yorkers when we were there.  Might just be the best sports bar on either coast!

I plan on going back everytime I go to SF

We came here looking for mojitos. They didn't have any (-1 star!!! jk)

This place was dark and only slightly dingy. Wide variety of patrons (middle aged working class men, some old sketchy dudes, couple yuppies in the corner).

I had a $3 tall boy can of Bud Light. F*CK yeah, happy hour.

Places that try to pretend to be dive bars stick out like a sore thumb to me.
    This place is like that.
Sure, there's the old Asian drunk guy sitting there at the bar with his eyes closed saying he's meditating but really he's just passed out drunk.
Sure there's the old sports memorabilia...but it's beat out by the fancy shirts that all the bartenders wear.
The bar is super lit up and bright.
The drinks aren't dive bar prices.
    There's that too.

This is a great bar for all different occasions.  On any given night this could be just a chill place to hang out if you want some time away from the normal SF crowd.  They have beer coozies, a jukebox, and an old asian man named "miyagi" that just hangs out and looks like he's seen better days.  The bartenders are great, I'm partial because one is a friend.

Ace's is a great place to go for watching the game too.  They are nice enough to drag out a grill and cook up free chicken, hot dogs and burgers.  Can't beat that!  Whats even more fun is watching the colorful characters that live in the area wander by and yell at the patrons near the open windows.  Its a bit more crowded on days like this...but its much better than those douchebags trying to get into greens.

I wouldn't really call this place either a dive bar or a lounge, this is clearly a sports bar. Don't believe me? Go in there and look around. Sure there are a couple couches but all of the sports memorabilia make it kind of obvious. Who picks the categories on yelp anyway?

This was one of the places on that big snuggie bar crawl a couple months ago I didn't perticipate but I did have friends that were going and I thought it might be fun to get to this place early and grab a seat. Here's a picture of my friend Gareth with Frank Chu and they are both wearing snuggies http://www.yelp.com/bi...

So one strolling through my neighborhood, I magically ran into a new friend and found myself at Ace's. The way we found ourselves here really doesn't matter- but any chance I get to drink a free Blood Mary with good company and conversation is okay by me.

Earlier last week my favorite red wallet with my ID and lucky charm- my Ace of Hearts card I found outside the gate to my apartment- came up missing. I do still have my (expired) Michigan ID, so if they need backing up, I have that along with a picture I took of my California license on my sort of working iPhone.

After the good conversation and company, I'm convinced I don't need a lucky charm in a city as fantastic as San Francisco. Everywhere I go I see new things, meet new people, and am constantly entertained because there's something changing at all times. As far as the ID goes, I do really need to go to the DMV and stop procrastinating. I'm keeping my fingers crossed the wallet turns up somewhere.

Randomly picked this bar for SEC football viewing on the same day as santacon...didn't expect the bar to be overran by santas, elves, and random Xmas themed ppl (tho I did enjoy the chocolate covered biscuit a random Santa gave me while waiting for my beer)

It's a cozy little bar with 5 plasma tvs (though kinda small). Altho only one tv can have sound at any given time (somebody was there first for the Oregon game)

The bartenders are really nice and the drinks are cheap! One of em even gave us some free pizza!

Though close to half time the popos shut down the bar due to overcapacity. We got to get back in tho since we were just there for the game.

Def would love to come back again another time. Great place to just chill n drink with friends!

Went in there one night, didn't know an important football game was on (oops). So, everyone was mesmerized by men with a ball. No one took their eyes off the television. Because of this, there wasn't much socializing with people I did not know, which is one of the fun parts of going out. Why else would you go out?
My friends and I stood together, chatted, had a drink and looked at the television occasionally. Then we left.

I think this is probably a really cool place, but I will definitely need to go back when there isn't an important sporting event on. Or maybe that's the main cause for people to go there? Maybe it's just not my place.. hmmmm.

This review is pretty much solely for the bar as a Wisconsin Badger bar- we went here for the first UW football game of the season and it felt like I was transported back to Wisconsin (which is a great thing).  $2 miller lights and $3 rails during Badger games.  Sounds like Wisconsin to me!  In addition, everyone was wearing Wisconsin Badgers gear, the bartenders played "Jump Around" at one point, and everyone put their arms around each other and sang "Varsity" at the end of the game.

As a bar, it was clean, the bartenders were very nice, and the ambiance was good...I'll be back for the next game, at least!

This could be a "Cheers" bar!  I mean, on Sunday during football season, everybody knows your name!
Well I'm speaking as an outsider who went here once and did so by taking advice from two strangers in Giants gear walking past me and my BF at the very same moment that we were looking for a place to watch the Giants game.  They were going a different route, but pointed us to Ace's.  The bartenders are super friendly, were calling patrons by first name, and keeping up with the game at the same time. They had a BBQ out front that I learned was being tended by the doorman.  Yes, he made us all lunch for free (tips welcome).  I think I saw chicken and sloppy Joe's! I couldn't believe how generous they are!
Also the price of a pint wasn't bad either!
    Great place for Sundays

There are a few places in this world that I consider my favorites- Kelly's Roast Beef outside of Boston, The Billiards Bar at the Hard Rock Hotel in Vegas, The Ritz Carlton in Half Moon Bay to name a few.

Another of those places is Ace's in San Francisco- I was trying to think about how to describe this place in some witty way but decided that the best thing to do was to post what I posted to my Facebook when I was there this past Christmas Eve...

"Sitting in one of my favorite bars in the world, watching "A Christmas Story" with no sound, everyone in the joint is singing "Fairytale of New York" as loud as they can- got a full belly, my Baby by my side and hoisting one for baby Jesus- this is the reason for the season!"

If that doesn't get you to go then maybe you'll be doing us all a favor...

We were sitting at Sugar Cafe, meeting on a collaborative project, when we noticed the music volume increasing to the point we couldn't hear five feet from our heads. Now, I know Sugar goes from cafe to nightclub at some witching hour during the night, but when I looked around all I saw were a couple of people on their laptops and a couple of people at the bar. When one of us asked if they could possibly turn the volume down, the guy at the counter refused, and then facilitated by turning the knob down by one notch.

    Whatever.

So I suggested Ace's, a bar I had been to before and liked well enough. Upon entering, we were greeted by a smile, quick service and cheap drinks. I asked the bartender what their well whiskey was (I drink that straight because I can), and he smiled and directed me to a row of empty Old Crow bottles along the wall, apparently cleaned out by the staff.

    Nice.

But here's where Ace's differentiates itself from our previous venue: when the bartender saw we were meeting about something, he walked over and asked us if we wanted the music in our area turned down...

    Did you get that?

He came to US and ASKED US if we wanted the music turned down.

That's what you call customer service. We sort of sat there dumbfounded and surprised with a "what the hell just happened?" look on our faces...

Ace's now ranks as one of my top bars in San Francisco, a little bit of New York in the heart of the city.

Stopped by with friends to watch the Giants game on a Monday night.  Light crowd (it was Monday) but relaxed people.  Bartenders were fast and friendly.  The drinks are cheap; no food, but they allow you to bring in or have it delivered.  Also, a plus that it is dog friendly as nothing says relaxing at the bar more than a cold beer and a dog sitting next to the stool.

As a New York transplant, it was nice to see a little NYC in SF.  The seats from Yankee stadium are a fun touch.

Summary:  nice dive bar with cheap booze; good place to watch a game.

As a side note, a lot of the girls in the group thought the bartender was hot, so all you ladies with bartender fantasies, this may be the place for you.

We all came to Ace's to watch Timmy shutdown the Braves in yesterdays game. I didn't know this until I got there, but Ace's is predominantly a New York bar, so they support all the New York teams, but there was a good group of Giants fans there.

They also offered free food - burgers, corndogs, hotdogs, mac & cheese - and there were $2 beer deals.

Overall this is a great bar with really friendly patrons and staff - will definitely be coming back to watch the games.

    GO GIANTS!!!
