New York, NY
HEEELOW from Hell's Kitchen, the land of Thai restaurants. You know how Starbucks has its tentacles on every other block of most areas of Manhattan? Well, the Thai Restaurant Mafia has that presence in Hell's Kitchen, which is probably why I moved here. Imagine my dismay when I found that the warring factions were rife with too much sugar and fish sauce (read: predictable, stereotypical, overly-user-friendly Thai food for those who find it too adventurous to go past Pad Thai).
Aceluck (careful how you say it - my friend thought I was calling her a slut), is pretty great ... I cook fairly regularly, and I'm a mixed race bag of Asian, so are my friends, so we're kind of tough-sells when it comes to Thai food - Aceluck may not be hardline traditional, but they are very, very good. Their take on fish and chips (using perfectly fried long strips of tilapia and long, thin slices of perfectly fried plantains) was divine. For my non-spicy friends, I tried the pineapple-fried rice (very nice; the pineapple with the roasted cashew and the scallion - yum), for my traditional friends, I tried the Bangkok pushcart dish, roast duck over rice (SUCH a good comfort food dish - I will long for this after a one-too-many-cocktails night out with friends), for my esPICY friends, I tried the Gang Duck (I loved the name. I couldn't help myself. It's not their spiciest dish, but it was perfectly balanced, and, boy do they know how to do a good duck breast).
I'm going to be fat in the name of informative reviews.
P. S. - very nice, cheap happy hour if that's your speed; 4 - 7:30PM, and service is friendly and efficient. -

Ordered take-out here tonight. I made the mistake of assuming that the others here were right that the food wasn't spicy, so i ordered the green curry and noted "spicy please" in my request box.
holy crap. half my face has been melted off. it was tasty but jesus...it's no joke here ladies and gents. price was right too. -

I am writing this review based on a take-out order from May 2011. Sorry to write this late but I did write a review on http://seamlessweb.com. So I am copying & pasting the review I wrote there.
"I enjoy the food here. I order the Thai Salad and chicken pad thai entree. The thai salad came big with sliced boiled egg, chopped peanuts, bean curd strips and sliced carrots. It was delicious compare to other thai restaurant's regular thai salad. I always order extra peanut salad dressing since it is very good. The chicken pad thai is fine as you can't go wrong with it. Service was great. " from http://seamlessweb.com -

Great Thai food! Had Thai iced coffee for the first time here, was just as delicious as the tea. Was busting at the seams when I left, my eyes were certainly bigger than my stomach. Everything was really good and the staff was excellent!

I was staying in the neighborhood and was looking for someplace easy (you can't go wrong with Thai food, right?) without a crowd and found Aceluck through Yelp reviews. Good, fresh food at a reasonable price. If I lived in the neighborhood, this would be my go to place.

Lunch special portions are good. The free appetizer today was just one fried vegetable dumpling, but hey, it's free! Pad see ew is okay. Noodles were kind of cooked for too long and so they were sticky. Not enough flavor. Instead of Chinese broccoli they used normal broccoli - what?!

I love Aceluck and usually go here on Sunday afternoons with friends. I like the service because the waiter or waitress doesn't hover you and lets you enjoy your food and company. I like the simple, modern and green walled atmosphere. I like the affordable prices. Last but not least, I like the food. I usually get the Lemongrass Chicken which comes with a side of Papaya Salad, Pad Kee Mao and Pad Thai. All are excellent. The Pad Thai isn't greasy like in a lot of other places and they made it spicy as I requested last time, not skimping on the hot pepper flakes. I will make many more returns.

Aceluck is a sadly less than mediocre Thai joint situated a bit south of the strip of mediocre Thai joints.
By this I mean that the soup is sometimes a tad too watered down and their noodles are often under seasoned. On a good day, the food can put up a fight for being average Thai food, but I've never truly been blown away.
On the plus side- it's fast and relatively cheap food. There are also drink specials on a regular basis- $3 beers, I believe. The space itself isn't bad either, it's cozy and modern and makes for a decent place to meet up for a few cheap beers and some noodles. -

The curry puffs were awesome. The 37 minute wait for take out was not, and the duck wrap that made me ill CERTAINLY was not. -

I was in New York City with my wife for a weekend and was looking for something spicy for lunch. We spent half an hour walking around here & there in search of some ethnic place that was clean. We spotted this place, looked at the menu outside, and walked in.
I ordered Thai Green Curry with chicken (extra spicy) & Thai Iced Coffee and they were delicious. There was enough spice in the curry to make my nose run. But I really enjoyed it.
The staff was very friendly and attentive. I was not disappointed and recommend this place. -
Review from Clara L.
I really liked this place a lot when i first started coming here.
the pad thai here is one of the best i've had in the city! however, i realized it was the best because of the copious amounts of MSG they freely pour out in their food. for most people, this isnt a problem, but the few times i've eaten here, i've felt funny afterwards and wondered why. i mean, i enjoyed my meal so much! lo and behold.. it was the excessive MSG that actually made me feel ill.
if you have no qualms or issues w/ MSG, please by all means come here and enjoy yourself! otherwise, beware! -
Review from Althea A.
Haven't been to the restaurant; just got the delivery.
Food is pretty good - typically good, tasty thai.
Got lunch specials - each came with 2 fried veggie dumplings and a small salad with carrot-ginger dressing.
Beef rama was very good - the peanut sauce was not too heavy, and the meat was flavorful.
Cashew chicken was a tad greasy, but came with pineapple chunks in it - and if you want me to like something, throw some pineapples in!
Good prices. -

Happened upon this place when hungry and wanting food fast. Not much in the area came up on Yelp with good stars so my group decided to go to this place. It's clean, has 50% off booze, and good food to boot!
I had this deep fried fish dish that was like a dance on my tongue of flavor. Garlic, lemongrass, cilantro, thai basil, and a light sweet vinegar -YUM! Green curry was fine, and spring rolls left me wanting something different, but the dude next to me assured me that the shrimp dishes are great too.
As others have stated medium means HOT to most untried tongues. We ordered mild and I still broke into a mini swear...but it was a good one. -

I've had Chicken Rama in multiple Thai joints and it was always spicy. This place must think that Caucasians don't like spice! It was bland. Pad That was decent. For Manhattan it's cheap.

Ordered takeout from here b/c they had the quickest promised delivery window on SeamlessWeb. The Pad Cashew Nut was okay but the flavors were more muddled and messy than I expect from Thai food - felt like Thainese (Thai/Chinese) food.
Definitely edible but too many other good Thai alternatives in the area to bother with this place. I'd suggest they move out to the 'burbs where they'll have less competition...Listed in: Midtown West Lunch, Thai One On...

Review from Jando S.
Being Thai and trendy seems to be a common theme out here on Bangkok Boulevard (AKA 9th Avenue) and Aceluck seems to be no different from the rest. There are a lot of things they do well, but not unique enough to distinguish amongst the stiff competition in the area.
The clean interior has a contemporary feel with no hint of anything remotely Thai. Thematically, the colors on the walls are earthy and warm, creating a peaceful environment without being too stuffy due to the lack of space. The menus have a nice touch to them as well, good use of design and easy to understand for even the Thai newbies in all of us.
The food is so-so, bordering on the line of mediocre and uninspiring. Presentation looks nice, but there is something lacking in most of the food be it flavor or the fact that it is often too dry when served. At least delivery has been good to me here, though I find their portions tend to look better when served in house. Stick with the Thai curries since the Pad Thai and Pad See You were too bland to order again.
I like this place but I can only hope they can improve on their dishes and overall pricing. A clean bathroom would also be nice, but there is only so much we can ask for.Listed in: Bangkok Boulevard…

Nothing great, but pretty solid Thai food here.
When I walked in, the restaurant smelled like Chinese food, which immediately set of alarm bells. However, once they green curry came, it was all Thai. The green curry was tasty, but unexeptional. It won't win any awards for a great space, but they've taken what could be a plastic, formaica, and flourescent light space and turned it into something a bit nicer. The food was presented nicely as well. Will have to go back for the lunch special (~$8 for curry, rice, soup, and a drink?)Listed in: Thai Thoughts

Yum yum yum yum.
What a gem! In a barren little stretch of 9th Avenue behind the Port Authority, some of the girls and I stumbled on this delicious Thai place. It was two of their birthdays, so of course this is our first announcement to the waitress as she seats us. She was super sweet, very charming and talkative, and we loved her even more when she brought us a free order of taro fries, and two plates of fried ice cream with birthday candles (at the end of the meal, obviously).
In between our free snacks, we ate curries, salads, and soup, and everything on the table was delicious. I ordered my curry "medium spicy" and it still made me cry, but tears of joy with every bite I shoveled in. I couldn't stop. Someone had a salad with peanut sauce on the side, which was so good we ate it with spoons once her salad was gone.
I also ordered some sort of tequila martini because they were HALF OFF until 7:30 PM... $3.50 for a martini! Yes!! Two of the girls split a bottle of wine, which was also amazingly priced at just $10.
I highly recommend Aceluck: the food was delicious and speedy, the service was fantastic, and the pricing was great. Keep your eyes peeled for it!
And happy birthday to my babies!Listed in: It's okay, I'm a boozer too.

We found Aceluck through a Yelp search, and based on the rating and recommendations, we decided to visit. It was a good experience, although not a great experience.
We started with the Aceluck appetizer platter, which was decent, but not stellar. For the main course we ordered Green Curry and Pad Thai. Both were very good, with the green curry bowl exhibiting excellent characteristics of the coconut and heat. The Pad Thai was not quite as good, but was much better than just acceptable.
We passed on dessert in favor of a trip to Junior's Cheesecake.
The service was acceptable, but there was a minor mishap with some Green Curry sauce spilled on my pants when the food was brought to the table. However, it was clearly an accident and not the result of any kind of ignorance or negligence.
All in all, this place missed 4 stars but just a bit. Had the drinks come out faster and the Pad Thai been just a bit better, it would SURELY have rated 4 stars. Well worth the price, and a visit if you are in the neighborhood! -

I'm a huge fan of thai food, and Aceluck is a pretty good choice. Im out here for a few months for work, and its pretty close and delivery has always been really fast.
I usually get the pineapple fried rice (I'm love pineapple), and its never let me down. It could be a little spicier, most of the food that I've gotten there have not been spicy at all. I dont want "Thai" hot, but something with a little kick would be good.
But if you just are down for some decent food at good prices, Aceluck is a good choice. -
Review from Lisa Q.
This restaurant is NOT thai food. It is Chinese food. I think they all brainstormed on how they could make more money and decided on slapping the word thai on their menu.
I've tried all most of their stir-fries and I have to say, it tastes like plastic Chinatown. The service is whatevez, just like Chinatown service. They even have peking duck on the menu! It's the "duck wrap."
Ugh, sadly, this restaurant proves that when azn foods fuse taste buds get sad. Oh, and they make their thai iced coffee from powdered coffee---- anger. -

I base the authenticity of a Thai restaurant based on how well they make their Beef Larb.
With that being said, Aura Thai is a pretty good quick lunch spot near work. It's always my go-to when I'm craving Thai food.
The only down side is that if you walk in to order takeout around the busy lunch hours, the wait is usually longer than just ordering for delivery through Seamless Web. -

Cute cute restaurant. I definitely eat Thai food as often as I can. The food here is really good. My favorite is the Duck Wrap. It's like a spin-off of duck with Chinese pancakes. The Thai tea here is to die for. I like my Thai tea when it's spicey and not too milky and they win! And who can beat the happy hour? 50% off 4-730 weekdays and 50% off all weekend??? Sign me up. Lychee martini here I come!
The staff is super sweet and attentive. My favorite is a girl with short hair. I usually tip a standard 15% when I go to restaurants but I think we tipped her almost 30% last time. Plus it was my birthday and she was being extra sweet to us! -

Three of us ran into this place today, after passing Atomic Wings next door. We went at 3:00, after the lunch rush. The lunch special looked good with the included soup and appetizer.
The pumpkin soup was great, but it tasted more like chowder than pumpkin.
I liked the Thai iced tea, but it was over brewed for my friends. I also thought the rose on the straw (see pic) was cute, but after I realized it was taped on, I decided I would prefer to unwrap my straw myself.
I ordered the pineapple fried rice, my friend ordered the Pla Rard Prik, and another pineapple fried rice. I asked for mine to be made as spicy as possible. I'm West Indian and I regularly cook with scotch bonnet peppers, so I wasn't worried about Thai pepper. I was wrong. My fried rice was so spicy I was crying, my nose was running, and I nearly gave up.
I still thought it was great though! The service could have been better. I probably won't be back, but only because this is not my neck of the woods. -

Not too bad.
Lunch menu is ample, bonus spring rolls are pretty tasty, and take-out is quick. I'd advise calling ahead for take-out, even though it's quick -- gets kind of cramped in here at lunch time.Listed in: midtown lunch

I've only ever ordered via SeamlessWeb for this place, but there's something to be said for the fact that I end up giving them my lunch business at least 2 days a week....their Tom Yum soup is hands-down the best I've had in the city so far.
Seriously, I like to think of myself as a bit of a Tom Yum connoisseur and I will tell you - good luck finding better tom yum in midtown.
Also pretty decent thai iced tea. I invariably throw in an order of the summer rolls (really only so I can creep up closer to my firm's lunch allowance limit)...they're ok but I probably wouldn't order them if I weren't dealing with play money :)
Minus 1 star because their delivery sucks. I always request a noon drop-off and end up taking the over on a 12:45. -
Review from Chris C.
There maybe enough Thai restaurants on 9th Avenue in Hell's Kitchen to change the name to Little Bangkok or Thai Town...any of these working for you? But, having so many means you better keep up if you own a Thai restaurant on 9th in HK (or Clinton). Aceluck falls below average for my taste.
We stopped in for lunch yesterday, and the hostess placed our menus Lunch Special side up. Of course, it being a holiday, they were not running the lunch special. Chain Jerk #1.
Our waiter either couldn't understand what we wanted or was not listening because he managed to screw up both the drinks and food orders. Chain Jerk #2.
On the bright side the food was pretty good. On the down side, the food was just pretty good. By the time that it arrived, there had been enough missteps that they would have to really stick the landing to get us to return. We had steamed Vegetable dumplings which were absolutely soggy. We both had chicken entrees and they were fine. There was the overall feeling from the food like this was a very generic taste. There was no sharpness. There was no pop. It was edible. It was ok. It was not A-OK.
With so many other options in the area, I'll probably pass on Aceluck next time.Listed in: Go to Hell

I'm a regular here on the weekends. And alas they get so much screwed up when I order via phone. Such as always giving - and charging - extra peanut sauce when I ask for NO peanuts. Well it's better than having them screw up by making me sick right? (see my review for Yummy Sushi..)
I always order the veg dumplings, pad thai and green tea ice cream. Love them all.

I've started to bring friends here for dinner also which is great.
They have all day happy hour on weekends.
Along with beer and wine they also have some nice cocktails and saki to choose from.
The dinner menu is larger than the lunch, duhhh, and is just as tasty.
Highly recommend this place for the weekend.

Review from Jason P.
Along the boulevard of Thai restaurants, does Aceluck Thai hold up to the competition. A colleague and myself went there to order take-out. It was early, around 11:30am so the place was still empty. The two ladies operating the cash register greeted us with big smiles and a cheery personality. We put our orders in. I ordered the Beef Pad Gra Prow ($7.95) lunch special which also includes jasmine rice, one free daily appetizer and either seasonal soup or salad. The Pad Gra Prow can be ordered not spicy, spicy, and extra spicy, that of which I ordered spicy until I later realized they also served it extra spicy. We were told the soup is served during the winter, and salads during the summer months, which wasn't much of a problem for me. While we waited, the hostess ushered us to sit down at any of the tables and asked if we wanted glasses of water. Wow, I was a bit surprised being that we only came for take out but she totally made us feel at home. It took about 5 minutes to come out and we were on our way, with many smiles and goodbyes.
The appetizer was a fried dumpling filled with mixed vegetables. It was light and crispy though slightly greasy. A packet of duck sauce was included as well, but the dumpling alone was delicious. A separate container for the salad included the usual vegetables: lettuce, tomato, julienned carrots and slices of cucumber in what seemed to be very similar to the orange ginger dressing you find in salads at Japanese restaurants. The vegetables were crisp and fresh, however nothing from the ordinary. The real star of the show was the Beef Pad Kra Prow, which is sauteed in fresh basil, chili and garlic with string beans, onions, carrots, bell peppers and hot peppers. The thin slices of beef were tender and flavors absorbed well with notes of sweet and spicy. The vegetables were all very fresh and complimented each other perfectly, no vegetable undercooked nor overpowering each other. Adding to the sweetness factor was a decent amplitude of heat that I enjoyed. It got me going for the spice lover that I am (and even kept my stomach warm), and I'm quite curious how their extra spicy will taste. I really enjoyed my Pad Gra Prow, though my colleague only seemed to enjoy his Red Curry dish. He said it was good though he didn't seem amazed, and he was a bit letdown because he was expecting soup rather than the salad.
But overall, Aceluck Thai will satisfy your Thai cravings though don't expect anything spectacular. It tops Royal II Thai Cuisine and Alpha Fusion in the '33rd to 40th St.' and '9th Ave. to Broadway' area, however Thai Select is still my favorite in the area. But Aceluck doesn't even compare to the more favorable Thai restaurants in the 50's and 9th Ave. area. -
Review from Athena C.
I love Thai food and this place suffices to satisfy my desire for Thai cuisine. I usually order lunch from this place because it is one of the very few restaurants near my work. Their flavor is quite authentic. Space is very limited and cramped.
They have decent selection of dishes but their lunch specials are kind of weak. The portion is small and they don't even give you a free appetizer! But I guess when you work on 10th Ave, this is what you could get for lunch. -
Review from Craig R.
Ace Luck is one of the places I tend to get totally plowed at due to the immediate proximity to my hotel. This makes it really easy to walk only the 50 feet down the street while I'm drunk! They have some great drinking specials throughout the week , which is awesome if you get off work before 7 PM.
I also come here because it is cheap, the food is good, and the service has always great for me. Most of the staff knows me by face now as I stop in about once every other week. I've never waited to sit down or waited an excessive amount of time for food. My order has also always been right every time I've come.
I do have to agree with some previous reviews that this place does actually tend toward Chinese food more than Thai food on some portions of the menu, but all the food I've had has been good despite some possible mis classification.
I have come to find that my favorite dish is their Fried Rice with Squid in it, it's awesome!
Ace Luck also has a small beer selection as well as wine and they do serve a couple of mixed drinks.
I'd steer clear of groups larger than 4. -

Aceluck was excellent. I started with a spring roll appetizer which was cooked perfectly and tasted great. I moved on to the special, baked fish with vegtables and a Thai beer. Everything was excellent. I will go back next time I am in NYC. The only drawback is that they have 24 tables for 2 and only one waitress. She was trying hard but wasn't really keeping up with the crowd. I heard several people quitely complain about the service, but not about the waitress. She was very nice and was working hard. The owner needs to get an extra person working the tables. Final tab was $25.00 + tip. Left full and satisfied. Excellent value.

The portions were a little small but the food was decent. I had the Pad Thai and Red Curry again. These are my 2 favorite dishes i usually get at cheap thai restaurants. I also had a coconut juice which was actually pretty good.
The pad thai was flavorful and the noodles werent too dry. It was also a little oily and skimped on the ingredients within. I did however have a BUNCH of beanprouts, maybe more bean sprouts than noodle.
The Red curry was also decent and edible.
I m not sure how to describe Aceluck but it was decent food and very cheap prices. Portions are a little small but for an average person it think it should be enough. -

Just moved into the hood, and my bestie and I were taking a lunch break from moving. The lunch special and ambiance caught our eye.............. It was about 12:45 and the place was buzzing. Our waitress was cute and sweet and gave us some recommendations on the lunch specials.. I ended up with the green curry tofu style. It's supposed to be extra spicy but I asked for it a bit on the mild side.
They serve a delicious little salad with a fresh, hot spring roll from the fryer. My green curry tofu and veggie pate just hit the spot! The coconut milk sauce was being soaked up from anything I could put on my fork. Would I order the tofu again? It's a bit on the dry gummy side. I'd advise to just stick to the veggie option.
I'll be back for the happy hour. PS, drinks are half off on the weekends.all.day.long.
