Review from Anna P.
Charlotte, NC
I searched online for car rental in LAX. Thro' Hotwire, I chose the lowest that I could afford, it turned out to be Ace or the location where current Ace is. I need to warn you friends.
1. Hotwire has a policy of non-refundable rental. Unlike http://Cheapticket.com that you only pay when you arrive and rent. Hotwire charges you online once you reserve, no dispute. You will not see which company until you book and pay by credit card. I then found out it was Ace.
2. Do not be scammed by the lowest price, they have so many other hidden service charges and insurance that you have to pay at the front desk. Ending up almost like rental with Hertze, National, Enterprise, or even worse. I have seen some customers having big argument at their rental office and the attitude of those staff really incredible.
Having couple of times of mistakes or scammed, I remind myself never use http://Hotwire.com again. I prefer http://cheapticket.com as seeing today's airport crazy delay and cancellation, we may not arrive as we plan. http://Cheapticket.com will give me more flexibility.
Check carefully before you reserve anything or you will be upset your traveling plan. -

I really have to stop making decisions based strictly on price. Especially when you're making the purchase online. In the long run, it seems to me, you always end up paying more.
Ace sucks donkey balls.
Crappy car. Bad service. And such a haul from the airport-- a haul that no one bothered to mention when I called them looking for a ride to my rental.
Go with Avis. OJ or no J, that's a better car 10 times outta 10. -

I can't believe I didn't read Jason's review of Ace Rent-A-Car before arriving at LAX this morning. Donkey balls is right... I am having difficulty coming to terms with the piece of shit on wheels they put me in, after struggling for close to an hour to get there location.
It is WORTH the extra $20 or so bucks a day to go with one of the bigger names.
They were friendly enough, but the car just plain sucked. SUCKED!!! Burn holes in the fabric and cup holders, dings and scratches all around the entire vehicle... Thank goodness I didn't have to drive any clients around in the thing this trip... -

I, too, wish I had read these reviews before renting a car here. First off, no one takes the time to let you know about the need to call the shuttle service when booking the car. I had to hitch a ride with the driver from Hertz rent-a-car, whom kindly filled me in the whole process. He dropped me off at Lot C, where I waited 20-30 minutes for the shuttle to pick me up.
Finally, I made it to Ace and had to endure another a slow check-in process, where the guy at the counter kept telling me how beautiful I was. Awkward! He proceeded to take another 20 minutes checking me in and fumbling with the copy machine.
Needless to say, it was an awful experience and I will never rent from here again. Nightmare is right. -

This is the worst car rental experience I have ever had. They are completely dishonest, disorganized, use a front company called "rent-4-less" to cover themselves and they accused me of lying.
Not only was I surprised by a $600 dollar "transportation fee" that was never mentioned in any contract or quote they sent me, but they also claimed it was disclosed on the contract they sent me. With the document in hand they finally admitted that it wasn't actually there.
Then comes the fun part. I got a flat two hours into my trip, changed it. Then I got a blow out four hours in to trip, now without a spare and in the middle of no where I call the number given on the contract and they never answer. After hours on a saturday night equals no service.
Finally, with the help of Soledad Police, I got a tow and fixed the flat, and put that back on the car and called it a day, never thinking they would blame me for a blow out.
I arrive at the scheduled time in LA and they tell me I have to buy the tire and possibly the wheel because there is a dent in it. Needless to say I was disgusted by the whole thing.
I decided not to try my luck with collections and I signed the paper agree to pay for the tire.
All i can say is stay away, pay for the real service of a reputable company, and never go ACE no Blue Opal (another pseudo name) or rent for less. -

Van Nuys, CA
The worst car rental EVER!!!. We rented a van and it took then 2 hours to get the van when the van arrived 2 seats were not working. The van was dirty, smelly and filthy! As we drove to Vegas at 10pm we saw the low tire pressure on and we called the office and they said to ignore it. Since we have our 3 years old daughter in tow my husband and I didn't want to take the risk of driving in Vegas at night with low tire pressure on so we returned it and ask them for a replacement and they didn't have one. The guy in the front desk was too lazy to check us out and he said just to toss the key in the inbox and demanded my husband to park the car somewhere. The next day they called early in the morning and asked where the car is parked.. UNBELIEVABLE!!! This company should go out of business....
The WORST part is they charged my Amex for 1 day of renting. I am trying to dispute the charges!
NEVER EVER RENT A CAR FROM THIS COMPANY!!! -

Poor cars, rude employees asking for ridiculous amounts of documentation like full copy of insurance, not just the insurance card, proof of address, gas bills and god knows what. What a nightmare.

DO NOT rent from here. yeah, it was the cheapest deal i found but i would have gladly paid more if i'd known what i was in for. first of all, the shuttle drops you off at some airport parking lot and you have to call the company to have someone pick you up. not very safe for an out-of-towner to be standing in a parking lot near LAX with a big old suitcase just asking to be mugged, raped and murdered. then its like another 10 minute drive to the office. the office...dirty, smelled weird, unfriendly employees, ridiculously long checkin procedure. we were excited when we got an upgrade to a nicer car (it was one of those 300'S) but only noticed after driving away how EXTREMELY filthy the interior was. i made my friend stop the car and go back to show the guy but all he said was ok and that they wouldn't have anything else ready for a long time. whatever...what does that mean? ready? this car looked like it had NEVER EVER been cleaned inside. EVER. the floor, seats, doors, even the ceiling was dirty and stained. the vents were caked with dirt and dust. the car ran well but the check engine light kept coming on. to top it all off, the office hours are very inconvenient if you have an early flight. we had to drop the car off the night before and take a taxi to LAX the morning of our flight. another $50 we should have just put toward renting from somewhere more reliable. i will NEVER rent from here again. i filled out their survey they emailed to me following the rental, which i hardly ever do, and told them all of this and still haven't heard back one word from them. you would think they would clean up their act a bit with all of these unhappy customers.
