About two years ago, we initially turned to Craigslist to find a plumber for a toilet clog.  We did that wanting to save money because we had the impression that calling a plumbing company would cost a lot more.  The guy on Craigslist posted a very professional looking ad, stating he had over 5yrs experience, and that he simply didn't bother to get certification as a plumber so he can only call himself a handyman.  We took a chance and went with him.  The guy came over and simply pour acid down our toilet and demanded $75, leaving after being on the premises less than 5 minutes.  Suffice to say it didn't work and we felt both stupid and ripped off.

That was when we initially called Ace Plumbing.  They came out and spent a decent amount of time to solve the problem (there was a clog further down the line) and the bill was not shockingly high at all.

Two weeks ago, we had a leak in our kitchen sink faucet.  We called Ace and they sent out Kevin, who was really professional and courteous.  Kevin explained clearly what was wrong, and laid out our options to get our own replacement part from a nearby hardware store or that Ace could bring the parts and how much each option would cost.  Kevin was absolutely fine with us getting our own replacement faucet and he came back later in the day when we were ready for him to install it.  Kevin even stopped by for free the following day to check on something for us.

I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Ace to friends and family and would definitely call on Ace again for future plumbing issues.

The thermocouple on my boiler went out Thanksgiving morning and cooking a Thanksgiving meal with family in town with no hot water is not cool.

I started called around. Out of the eight places I called, four wanted to charge 3-4 times the normal hourly. Which is fine because it's holiday but the part is literally $20 bucks and install is 15 minutes. $400 just to walk in the door was a lot. Then, the last 4 companies would not come unless we were already pre-existing customers. I was pretty much done and was going to just bite the bullet with the holiday fee but I made one more call to Ace.

I'm not sure if Frank is the owner or just a dispatcher but he really helped me out. He sent Sean out about an hour later and he nailed it in 15 minutes. He pretty much just charged me the normal hourly rate and I ended up saving about $300 bucks. He was friendly and told me about some other stuff with my boiler. I'm not sure what's up with "Real E" the Realtor who has a negative review but I just can't believe that these guy charge too much. This dude totally saved my Thanksgiving and I saved a lot of money.

Hire these dudes. I wish I had more $$ on me as I would have tipped him even more than I did.

Called these guys to put in a short gas line for a dryer in the garage.  First, the plumber left a _gas leak_ on the line.  Since it's in the garage I didn't smell it until three days later (when the dryer itself actually came - the people who brought in the dryer actually noticed it first).  It was a minor leak but still dangerous.  I called Ace back to fix it.  To their credit they responded immediately a different plumber quickly found the leak with a soap test.  The nut at one end of the pipe by all appearances hadn't been turned even once.  Ironically the invoice says "Strapped and tested.  No leaks."

Second problem:  They somehow misplaced the record of my payment to them.  They kept sending me invoices (with different invoice numbers) so at first I figured their normal process just took a while to resolve duplicate invoices (for the estimate vs actual work, say).  However they then sent me an invoice marked "PAST DUE" so now I have to call them to fix it.  I can clearly see the check I wrote them on my bank's web site even with Ace's stamp on the back!

Putting in two stars only because the gas line actually looks good now that it's not an existential threat to my house.

I should add that I'd complained over the phone a couple months earlier and the owner apologized to me at that time which I appreciated.

Update:  The owner of Ace called me to apologize (again).  He sounded genuinely apologetic.  He assures me that some of the issues here around record-keeping should be resolved going forward.  I appreciate his responsiveness to the situation and I'm inclined to believe this is all some kind of fluke.

I give them 5 stars as they saved our house from flooding at 9:30pm in the night. I placed a call at 9pm and Mike Fischer, the plumber (make sure you ask for him) was at my house in 15 mins. I was so panicked but Mike was really calm and on his toes about the process. Thank you Ace plumbing. You guys are the best.

We are new homeowners, so naturally our water heater had an issue within two months. The pilot light was not staying lit. A neighbor recommended Ace. I called on a Thursday morning and they were at our door within 30 minutes. The service provider, Mike, was very polite. He replaced the thermocouple, and when it still wasn't working he checked everything thoroughly, tightened connections and got it working.

I've worked with other contractors who would stop when a part replacement didn't work right away and suggest we replace the whole system (e.g. the control device for the heater). We aren't plumbers, we wouldn't know any better. Based on my experience today I wouldn't hesitate to call Ace again.

Regarding the pricing comments of others--our part replacement was $145. In my opinion we paid for the fast response, polite customer service,  thorough professional assessment and successful repair. I'll have hot water this weekend (yay!) and consider it money well spent.

Called them again recently for several badly clogged drains.  The person on the phone was super nice and the plumber who arrived was hard working and willing to work on several drains in one day.  Reasonable charges for the work and everything turned out great.  Definitely the first one I will call for any plumbing issues in the future.

I live in a complex, in a unit that has had backups now and again (and again). Two nights ago I had a horrible backup that overflowed all over my floors. Mike came out within 1/2 an hour, and had enough equipment to clear the drain roughly 6 times with 3 different types of machines (impressive!). He was calm, knowledgeable, and genuinely cared about the situation.  A supervisor at Ace eventually got involved and started investigating the possible causes for this backup around the building. They were unable to solve the larger pre-existing problem in an evening and morning, but the company has offered to go to bat for me in an HOA meeting or confront the property manager about the larger problem and the looming consequences if the real building-issue is not resolved. I'm touched they would offer to get involved in a cause that doesn't directly impact them. Not many companies I know of would do this.

The owner contacted me to apologize, and offered to do whatever he could to rectify the situation. He was very kind and professional.

The next day, I found an envelope on my door with an allen wrench in it, and instructions for fixing the problem on my own if it happens again.

They definitely went out of their way to assist me and ensure my happiness. Bonus points.

    - I did not use these guys so they may be great but I had 3 different plumbers bid on the exact same work. Two came in around $1,000 but the guys at $1789. Really? If you have them bid definitely get another one or two. I went with Friendly Plumber who were great.

After 3 different plumbers came to check and 'fix' my water heater gas main lines, I called Ace, and the name really says it all.

Within an hour, Paul was at my house taking a look at the problem.  PG&E had cut off the gas leaving me with no water due to a water heater leak.  It appears the stupid contractor before this had done a shoddy job in using the old parts to re-install a brand new water heater, and since I had just moved in to the condo, I had no idea until PG&E showed up for gas leaks and shut this down, showing a 9% natural gas leak reading.

Paul was quick to diagnose the problem, used extra seal, and even drove off to Daly City to get a part, all without any complaining.  On top of that, he insured the seal was airtight with a Air Test (most plumbers don't do this; leaving you to keep calling people back), but the gage held 15lbs for 20 minutes.  Called PG&E later that night and they came, checked, saw 0% gas leak readings and restored my gas.  Friggin' brill.

I was chuffed - the ONLY one area where these guys lose a star is on cost...but you get what you pay for.  They are a little pricey, but I'd rather deal with a Diamond Certified, BBB bad ass, and 5 Star Yelp Review king than a stupid Craigslist contractor who takes hours more and doesn't do a good job.  The only feedback here would be for these guys to assess the problem first; give you an accurate QUOTE, and then get you to sign and move forward on repair...  However, when you're sitting without hot water or gas for 3 days, you realize that you wanna take care of the problem.

In any case, I'm gonna always call ACE in the future.  They rock.

There are a few things I need a plumber to be: 1) competent 2) on time and 3) not the kind to leave behind a total mess when the job is complete.  When my last contractor's botched p trap failed for the second time, I stopped calling him and called Ace Plumbing instead.  I didn't think they'd answer at 8am on a Saturday morning (I was fully prepared to leave a voicemail for later call back) but they not only answered, but were able to send someone out in a few hours.  Mike, the plumber they sent out, was precisely on time - even though the office person had written down the wrong address - quickly assessed the situation, gave me two options and then went to work.  He was fast, precise and not terribly expensive ($125 to replumb basically all of the under-counter kitchen sink pipes).  Quite pleased - I would recommend them.

My water heater works now -- I'll give them that.

The pilot light of my water heater wouldn't re-light, and I called Ace because they were on listed the manufacturer's site. J.D. arrived on time the next morning and began to troubleshoot the water heater. He starts by pressing the piezoelectric lighter button about 30 times within 30 seconds trying to get the pilot going (no exaggeration).

Problem #1: the pilot lit after the first press or two, he just couldn't see it. I let him know that the lighter works well, but he would need to turn himself around in order see the flame through the little window. He ignored me and pressed the button roughly 50 more times. His friend or assistant or whatever -- obviously embarrassed with J.D. -- repeated my suggestion, and J.D. reluctantly turned around after another 20 attempts. Surprise, the pilot lights just fine now that he can see it.

After confirming what I've told him -- that the thermostat/gas valve unit is bad and would need to be replaced (I had already replaced the thermocouple, and the 'single-use hi-temp shutoff' appeared to be tripped) -- J.D. informs me that he'll need to go to a supplier to get a new one, and he'll be back in a couple hours.

He returns a couple hours later and replaces the gas valve, and the water heater works. Yay! Not having hot water is pretty horrible in SF. [sarcasm]He then does a nice, professional job taping the piezoelectric lighter to the new valve.[/sarcasm]

Problem #2: He rips me off, charging me $170 for the valve, which is a $50-80 part. And that's on top of labor. I ask him for a copy of the receipt for the part, both because he's ripping me off and so I can have it to submit to the manufacturer for warranty reimbursement.

Problem #3: He lies. He replies, "Ace will send you a copy of the part receipt in a couple of days." That never happened.

Find someone else who doesn't have employees that are dishonest and will rip you off.

First of all, I want to say that I selected ACE Plumbing based on previous Yelp reviews and ratings.  Initially, I was pleased to get an appointment so quickly to estimate a sewer lateral replacement.  However the workers sent out to do the job were unprofessional and spent the first part of the day, goofing off.  The supervisor-Joe Tinsley was fine at first but always seem to have an excuse for their poor behavior or for the delays.  He became more patronizing as the job continued on.  Granted, the job was completed but it was an agonizing process to get there.  I even had to call to request an invoice after several weeks passed by.

However, it was the office staff who I give kudos to (and who receives the only one star rating here) for having to relay my questions and concerns to the supervisor who claimed to have the wrong phone number for me (but their office staff always had the right ones on file and were always prompt in returning my calls).

If you want to experience frustration and a poor attitude, then call Ace.  Otherwise you're better off with another company.   If any of my other properties are in need of sewer repair work, Ace won't be getting my business.

UPDATE:  I had a call from Jonathan, the owner of Ace Plumbing and Rooter who periodically checks his company's reviews on Yelp.  He was understanding of my concerns, indicated that he talked to his crew about the problems experienced on this job and apologized for the supervisor's attitude.  I've increased the rating from one star to two stars to reflect his genuine concern for the situation.

I work in real estate as a property manager.  This company charges too much and does not provide the most cost-effective recommendations for your situation.  They are accessible via phone for the most part, but sloppy when it comes to details (I've caught the owner and journeyman not getting their story straight).  For my particular issue, they gave the wrong diagnosis and solution.  Wanted me to spend thousands of dollars when the clog was actually in a different area (I talked to other plumbers besides them).

On the upside, they respond quick.  However, they are more suited for smaller jobs.  If you need to replace a sewer line or change the plumbing in your house, skip them.  If you have a lot of money and don't have a budget, feel free to ignore my advice.

You can contact me if you have questions.

So, I edited my earlier review of Ace, as I had only given them one star, for what I felt was a long time to receive a follow up appointment.
As I had said, Ace staff  and the plumber were all friendly and helpful, but I decided to look elsewhere after the first appointment, because 2 weeks passed and I hadn't been able to have anyone come out.

The owner called me after reading my review, to explain that the reason it had taken long to get back to me was because they were going out of their way to help me out, and working "outside the box", and that they were trying to help out.
So for that effort , I am adding two stars.
I personally, just had to get the project done and move on.

These guys are THE BEST.  After having my gas meter plugged by PG&E, I had to have what I'd thought would be a couple of leaks fixed in the gas line.  It ended up being way more than that - virtually the entire gas line throughout the house had to be replaced, over a holiday weekend, during a particularly wet/cold spell.  Not only were they knowledgeable, courteous and efficient, but they worked through the holiday weekend and went to bat for me with both the city and with PG&E to get the required inspection done and the meter turned back on so I could have heat and hot water restored as quickly as possible.

Joe and Mario went out of their way to provide superior customer service.  I am very happy to recommend Ace for any plumbing job.

While my first experience was terrific, I tried them again and it was terrible.  Our hot water heater wasn't working and they sent someone out right away.  He gave us an estimate, said he had another job, and would try to come back later that day.

That's fine, but he never called to say he couldn't make it.  Left me hanging the entire day. Worse, he never called on Monday to tell me when he could return.  I had to call them 3 times before he called me back to tell me he would make it at 3:00, but then again didn't show.  I had to call another time and he finally arrived 2 hours late, only to have the wrong part!  I'm going somewhere else now.

Excellent experience w/my water heater installation:

-Courteous staff on the phone and open late, I think I called at 8pm.
-Call back from the tech, Shawn immediately the next day & an estimate was set up.
-Shawn explained to me what needed to be done and the price was significantly lower than competitor's in the area.  PLUS a 10% discount on labor.
-Called the office for a written estimate and got it instantly.
-Work was done in a professional manner and as described.

I was housesitting for my parents when the upstairs bathroom faucet decided to not completely shut off.  I have many skills, but plumbing is not one of them, and I am not fool enough to try to screw around with something that I know little about.

I hopped onto Angie's List and Ace had a great grade and picked up the phone when I called.  The man who picked up was courteous and taught me how to shut off the water so the leak would stop until their tech could get to the house.  He told me to start with the hot water heater (since it was the hot leaking) and to call back if that didn't work.  It worked, so I didn't have to call back.

It took the tech a while longer to get to my house than the man on the phone thought, but hey, it's a Saturday.

When JD, the tech got here, he was friendly and professional.  He explained how he'd diagnose the problem, and then what would need to happen for the different scenarios.  Luckily, the less expensive fix worked

Replacing the faucet stems ran $185, and given that this was a) a Saturday afternoon b) the parts ran $66 (I checked Home Depot) and about 45 minutes of work, I guess that's fair although I have nothing to reference to as I've never had to have plumbing work done.  After the initial sticker shock, it seems reasonable.

I would definitely call Ace again if I had plumbing issues!

From phone call to finish, Ace Plumbing was great.  They were able to accommodate me pretty quickly, showed up on time, gave me options, and a fair price.

I started a sink/vanity install but then there was a fair amount of drain offset, baseboard cutting, puddy i didn't have....  So i threw in the towel after toiling over it a while.  Michael, was the guy who stopped by, he was friendly and professional.  He gave me my options and estimate.  He worked quickly and i feel like I got a fair price.

I originally called Atlas Plumbing for our slight emergency with the toilet...today, a sunday during a holiday weekend. They were booked. They recommended Ace, as seen by the review here by Joely. Joel is the owner of Atlas apparently and likely to be the guy I spoke to.
Anyway, it took a couple of hours from the time I called them to the time Rick (Richard) made it out to us, but he got called in for this job specifically.
He came up with just a plunger. I told him he might need more than that. He said he wanted to try it anyway. Two minutes later, no exaggeration, and the toilet was flushing and draining normally.
He was super nice and probably happy that it wasn't a major problem to keep him out late on a sunday night.
It did cost $125 for a plunge but I would totally call them again.

And a few days later I did have to call them again. This time Rick snaked the shit out of the drain...not literally really...I think he even broke a sweat crankin' that sucker...but he got it and it's been good ever since...it's been months.

    Thanks!

They took a little longer than expected to show up but apparently the job before mine was a doozy.  That said, they always answered the phone and even called once to keep me apprised of the situation.  Mind you, this was all after 9pm.

The guy who showed up was dead cool and straight professional.  The last time I clogged a sink a few years ago I went at it myself - even bought a pipe wrench and everything - but to no avail.  We used Ace to great results.  I remembered they had to bring in some tools that were short of heavy earth-moving equipment.  This time around I skipped the me getting soggy step and called them straight up.  It was a bad gamble since it turns out only the trap coming out ot the disposal was clogged.  Still, I stayed dry, learned a few very important things about my disposal and even got a free aerator that completely cured the low water pressure that has been plaguing our kitchen faucet.  I even got some great answers to nagging questions about our impending kitchen remodel.

The plumber (Ronnie) was polite and completed the work. He also gave me some insight into what caused the clogging, and he also fixed my dishwasher problem.
Because of their prompt response, friendliness, and professionalism, I will use them again.

Ace Plumbing is great.  Sean came over right on time and fixed my clogged drain in minutes.  He even had recommendations on how to prevent this in the future.

Would definitely use them again.  Fast, courteous service.

The drain in my backyard was clogged and i gave these guys a call. They gave me a $200 estimate to snake the drain and install a new drain cover. They tried for more than an hour and were getting nowhere so they decided to hydro-jet the drain. Since they had already committed to a price, they stuck to it and 3 hours later they fixed it.

The guys were courteous and professional.

Found water in our basement.  Assumed it was a leaking pipe.

Overwhelmed by # of plumbers in phone book.  Saw good reviews of ACE on yelp.  Momentarily hestitated due to the mispelling of the word plumbing (plubming) on their website.

Called them because they said they had free estimates.

I told them it wasn't urgent, but they were still able to send someone that same day.

Friendly guy comes by (has to walk up 44 steep stairs), examines the basement area where the water was, checks out the pipes, checks out the shower that is above that area.

Tells me it's not a leaking pipe, but that the seal in the shower wasn't done right, the shower is leaking.

I'm embarrassed to say I can't tell the difference between the electrical & the water pipes, so he could have tried to rip me off by replacing the (eletrical) pipe that I thought had been the source of the leak (water was dripping onto it & then onto the floor).

He says I can pay him $70 or I can caulk it myself. (I opt to do it myself - water stops appearing).

If I had had to pay someone $60 to come by just to be told it wasn't a pipe issue I'd have been annoyed (even though it wasn't their fault).  But his free appraisal was a good investment for the company because for that kind of prompt/helpful/trustworthy service I will definitely be calling them next time it really is a pipe issue that needs to be replaced!

A few days ago, noticed that my water heater was leaking and water was all over the garage floor, Called June, got an appointment, Mario the plumber called me back to confirm, he came out, got me a super nice new water heater, hooked it up and very pleased. Found a leak in the garage pipe, called Ace at midnight, they came out, inspected the problem, sealed the connector of the pipe and no more leak, Very nice to have these guys close by, Friendly and professional. Well done Ace.

Rocks. I was away on vacation and got a call from the owner of the unit below us - about a 'leak.' Never good news, so we came home early and I looked up Ace, based on their reviews on Yelp.

David was prompt, pleasant and fixed the leak in one hour for less than a few hundred bucks. They were honest, quick and professional. Plumbers are not known for these traits, yet Ace was able to defy this.

    Excellent work.

This review is long overdue.  I needed to have some plumbing work performed last month.  It consisted of running a new supply line to the bathroom downstairs and capping/removing the old cast iron pipe.

I must compliment the team from Ace Plumbing from start to finish.  First they came as promised for the estimate.  Second they came with the best bid from the three companies I contacted from looking through Yelp.  In fact, the estimate was more than 50% less than the rest.

When I scheduled the follow up work, they did an excellent job and took less time than I thought.  They cleaned up the work area and made it seem like they were not even there.  The work was guaranteed and has not given me any problems.

Joe from Ace Plumbing and Rooter was great! I will absolutely call him again should the need arise.

The utility sink in our garage was horribly clogged and all our attempts at home repair (spread out over a week) failed miserably. Joe had the drain snaked and clear in literally a matter of minutes. He also provided helpful suggestions for avoiding the problem in the future. Honestly, I was hitherto unaware of the existence of such a thing as a "lint sock."

Anywho, great service and great attitude from Joe! Kudos!

These guys were fantastic.  Sean came out, gave me an estimate for installing a new dishwasher, faucet and water filter/water heater device with spigot.  It was a complicated job and got more complicated as he went on but Sean stuck to his price quote!  And he did a fantastic job, replacing all of the piping because he said he didn't want the old piping down there as it was going to leak soon.  It looks great, he cleaned up, stuck to the price quote and was a nice guy on top of it all.

I will specifically request Sean for all future work.  He said he's the most senior plumber at Ace and I believe it.  GO WITH SEAN.

Had an emergency plumbing issue last night at around 10 pm (a Saturday night) but they were able to immediately dispatch someone over to my place to take a look.  About an hour later, problem solved.  No hassle,  just professional service.  No idea if $225 to fix my horribly leaky sink was too expensive, and frankly don't give a damn since my landlord will be footing the bill.

I had a clogged toilet which, of course, I wanted fixed as soon as possible. Sean arrived 1 hour after I called. He was able to asses and clear the clog within 10 minutes. Very friendly (mention that you found them on yelp!). I will definitely be using them again, hopefully no time in the near future.
