Great work, terrible customer service. I've known Chad since the first day that place opened up. He did awesome work on my Yamaha Roadstar. Last time he did service on my bike (2008) he asked that I bring my bike to him when the bike hit 20k. I told him no problem.
Fast forward to present : our Company Moved from 1021 w. Adams back in December of 2011. I sinced moved to MT Prospect, IL to be closer to my Job. I took the day off yesterday,(My Roadstar has hit the 20k mark) drove all the way from Mt prospect to get serviced by Ace and to see an old friend. Didn't quite work out that way, I became another customer, another number, another "bring it in next month" attitude. How things change when business is booming. I wish you the best Chad, my business i will take elswhere.
Thanks. -

Great shop. First off, everyone was extremely friendly and helpful despite the fact that I was not bringing in a vintage bike or anything. I bought a Suzuki cruiser on craigslist and wanted to have a mechanic check it out. Chad took it for a ride, inspected all the necessary components and made a couple of small adjustments. Afterwards he was happy to answer all of my newbie questions and was extremely helpful on reviewing everything that he checked for. Best of all, the price for the mechanic's time was extremely reasonable (in fact, I felt they undercharged me). Great service, nice people, highly recommended!

These guys were truly aces (ba-dum-ching). With the unseasonably warm weather, I brought my scooter out of winter storage early with high hopes of enjoying a few rides. Unfortunately it didn't want to cooperate. After exhausting my mechanical abilities, I called the dealer/ shop where I purchased my scooter to schedule a time to check the battery, change the oil, and fix some cosmetic items while they were at it. I waited a week and not even a phone call back. In fact, still haven't heard from those guys. Doesn't matter because I won't be going back there.
Because I found this shop on Yelp and could not be happier! Following their instructions on the website, I emailed them the details of what I needed fixed. Alan called me back within a few hours, told me to bring in my scooter the next morning, and 8 hours later I was picking up my scooter, all tuned up and looking pretty. The guys were very friendly, happily answered all my questions, and the price was quite reasonable. More than anything, I appreciated their awesome customer service - responsive and quick! -

I really can't say enough good things about this place. I've had so many issues with my beloved scooter and this place has never let me down. My first experience was walking my broken-down scooter 1.2 miles to Ace. When I got there, sweaty and cranky, Bee showed up at the door wearing her adorable baby on her front. It made me smile immediately.
They took my scooter in even though it was the start of the season, and put me on a pretty short waiting list. In a week it was crankin', good as new, and for a very reasonable price. Another time someone tried to siphon gas from its tank (I know right??) and messed up the gas cap. I rode it there and almost immediately they fixed it - charging me nothing because they recognized me as a frequent customer ;)
What a great place! Loyal customer for as long as I live in Chicago. -

I literally joined Yelp! just so I could write an awesome review about Ace.
I'll be honest here - I have one of "those" crappy Chinese scooters that other places refuse to even acknowledge. But Ace didn't make me feel like a third-class citizen just because I can't pronounce the manufacturer's name. And it's not for lack of trying.
I didn't know how to properly winterize my scooter, so this spring, it was full of a gelatinous mixture of old fuel and new angst. Not only does it now run like a dream, but they also taught me some basic tips so that it won't happen again.
When my grandfather used to put his thumbs in his belt loops, and lean way back, and then lament about "when people really used to take care of you"? It's like that.
Yay, Ace!
Also, wear helmets out there, people. You can't Tweet from the grave. -

Chad and Bee are the very best. Fair prices, high-quality work on your "interesting" bike. The guys there take their time and do it right, and are very passionate about bikes.
Chad fixed a charging problem on my Parilla 250, got it running very well and gave me the confidence to ride it much further than just around the neighborhood.
Great gear, too. Modest confidence and fair prices. I wish I had a third thumb to raise. -

I've known Chad for longer than I can remember.
No lie. I really can't remember when I met him. I have dim memories of sitting in some tattered and seedy loft apartment a long, long time ago, drinking a beer or three, and watching the guy whose place it was paint his gas tank in the iconic Ska Oi Oi checkerboard pattern. I think that was Chad. If not, it was another motorcycle mechanic who looked a lot like Chad.
I definitely saw Chad working on a Triumph Trident when he was at Bob's Motorcycle World, fixing it up after it had been nearly destroyed by thieves (a guy named "Marshall" who runs a "British Cycle Parts" store had been stealing parts from it to fix other bikes while he was supposed to have been repairing it...) and Chad brought the poor thing back to life. That was, I think, 10 years ago.
And he just worked on my bike last month. It is now zippy and peppy and has working suspension again. It didn't cost me much money at all, and I didn't have to deal with any holier-than-thou attitude (which seems to be the norm at indie shops* in the city. Chad is ubermellow, listens to what you're asking of him, and is just the most genial sonofabitch I've ever seen working on bikes. He's like Gandhi in his serenity. Weird. Awesome, but weird.
Anyway, now that Triple O is gone (but not forgotten) Ace is the place that'll be getting all my business.
*Give Little Al a call, and ask him about ANYTHING. You're always WRONG. It's f**king hilarious. -

This is THE BEST motorcycle shop in town!!
Here's a little history of my situation:
I am fairly new to the world of motorcycling. When I got my license, I bought a 1974 Honda 350 Four. Now, I finally knew how to ride a motorcycle, but as for fixing a motorcycle, let alone a vintage motorcycle? Ha. Anyway, when my bike crapped out on me a couple of summers ago, I was referred to a now-closed shop. I now know why that shop closed. Lack of knowledge might have been a reason, but I know that it was carelessness mixed with a little dishonesty. I truly felt taken when my bike only ran for a week.
Step in Ace Motorcycle & Scooter. Not only did Chad get my 350 Four and my 1973 CL350 (Craigslist impulse buy) running better than they ever have, he also fabricated a custom exhaust for my CL350!!!! Beautiful pipes!! He found the original problem that the last shop said they fixed but hadn't and I have never heard either of my bikes sound better! He thoroughly explained and showed me what he did and where the problems were on my bike.
Chad is THE best motorcycle mechanic in Chicago! He also is honest. You can feel secure taking your bike there, knowing he will not rip you off no matter what your level of motorcycle know-how. This is the only Shop my bikes will ever see, and thanks to Chad's excellent work, their visits should be few and far between! -

I just bought my first motorcycle this summer, an '82 Kawasaki 550. Having sat for a year and a half before I bought it, it definitely needed a little motorwork. From the moment I even mentioned having to take it to a shop, all my cycling buddies had one and ONLY one recommendation.. ACE motorcycle and Scooter, so for me it was a no brainer. [disclaimer: To add to my personal experience, I met one of the mechanics, Johnny( who ended up working on my bike) through a friend randomly at a bar one weekend, and he sat with me for about half an hour over a drink listening to my issues, telling me what the problem might be, and to bring it in to him.]
Well, the next week, I took it in. It was there for a couple weeks, Johnny worked on it. He did an awesome job on the old girl, and the couple times I did stop in to check on it, He was super helpful and friendly, showing me in detail everything he was doing to the motor, why it was running the way it was, what needed fixed now, what I could do without while I was learning( they were very sympathetic to the fact that this was my first scoot), etc..I actually feel like I know MORE about my motor now then before I went in! One time I stopped in, my bike was actually pulled up and being worked on as I walked in.. that was REALLY reassuring to me.
These guys are quality all the way. They fixed it once, they fixed it right! Hell, the only problem I've had with it in the almost 3 weeks since I got it back is running out of gas once.. which I SUPPOOOOSE I'll blame operator malfunction on that one:D:D
Well, blah blah blah.. if you have a scoot, and it needs work.. go to Ace. Period. -

Want an estimate? They will give you a verbal one before they see your bike and it will end up being 40% more.
This shop was the worst experience of my life. They fixed my bike without giving me the estimate and when I asked questions on what I was being charged for and not just paying it, they took my bike and broke it on purpose. They made every problem I brought it in there for worst. My right brakes don't work at all, the bike won't even run anymore!
They even had the nerve to let the air out of the back tire.
The craziest part about this entire experience... there is NOTHING you can do. Yes, I called the police but they said it was a he said/she said situation.
I am a level headed guy and I looked at the owner in the eye and simply asked him in a calm voice, "why are you doing this?" And he went and got his lawyers card, said "Call him if you have any questions."
I see these reviews but what happens the second you need to ask a question about your bike or what THEY want to charge you? -

Take your vintage bike here for repair!
Wonderful people. I walked in one afternoon just to ask about buying used motorcycles. I explained how I'm looking to buy my first bike and I'm not sure what to looks for and more importantly, how to avoid getting ripped off if I buy off of craigslist. The guy talked to me for a good twenty minutes about what kind of bike I should look for, what to look out for, and what price range I should be in when buying a bike. He spent all of this time with me knowing that I wasn't going to be buying anything that day, and at the soonest I might bring in a bike for a tune-up next Spring.
Awesome customer service. -

Once again I've been the recipient of the legendary great service provided by Chad and his crew. Always reasonably priced and my expectations are always met.
Saw the review by the guy with the Vellocette- So you had to post two reviews? I'm sorry they had the audacity to expect you to pay to find out what was actually wrong with your bike.
While I have no problem with vintage motorcycles, and many of them are truly beautiful, I prefer to own a newer bike in order to have easy access to parts. You chose a motorcycle that hasn't been built in how many years and you expect cheap parts and service? Then you take out your frustrations on one of the area's foremost experts because all of a sudden you find out it needs more than one dollar thrown at it?

These guys just helped me out again with a title problem. Seems the state workers entered 48' instead of 78' for my title which caused a mess for springfeild! The local dealer wanted nothing to do with it, my beat cops couldn't sign the form for some reason. Ace had me in and out with a suggested "tip". My only complaint is that this is the third time they have not had enough $$ in the till to make change... No problem, I just keep buying stuff until I get the cost up. Hmmm maybe it's their plan. Haha, Thanks ACE!.

This is simply the best place to get work done on your vintage motorcycle or scooter in Chicago- period!
If you're relatively new to the vintage motorcycle world, know that I simply would never trust my motorcycle with any other shop. Yeah, I feel like I'm writing some weird PR piece in this review, but I'm just that happy that this shop opened. I do much of my own work on my bike, but there're just some things that take the fine touch of a true artist like Chad, the owner. Getting my bike to run with that perfect tune, when the point gap, timing, valve clearance, carb balance and float level are all dialed in perfectly so my lady sings? Chad's the only guy who can do it! OK, it's kinda weird letting another man fondle her most finicky bits, but the simple fact is that Chad makes her happier than I can, and when my bike's happy, I'm happy.
If you've been part of the vintage motorcycle scene for a while, you already know Chad, who worked so many years fixing BMWs at Bobs, and scooters and Brit and Japanese bikes on his own. Everybody knows he's talented and honest. With so many shops that have moved, changed for the worse or closed up over the years, people like me have been asking when his place would open. Good news- he just took a year off to get his city paperwork in order and find a perfect space (complete with pool table and crazy alien)- Ace is now open. It's gonna be a real pillar in the scene.
You know you've been taking your vintage motorcycle or scooter for granted. She needs some love and you just can't give it to her. Ace will fix her up with just what she needs to please.Listed in: Motorcycle Chicago

Considering there aren't a lot of scooter mechanics in Chicago this place was cool. MY husband got a used scooter for his bday, and the battery was having problems right away and it was leaking gas. He looked around for a place to take it to and the people at ACE were very nice. We took it in and it was done in less than 2 hours, I think maybe even less than an hour but not too sure about that. The labor is $85 an hour so I was a bit scared to look at bill but it was only $200 and some of it was the cost of the battery. Of course all scooters are different and may have different issues, but at least our issue wasnt so bad.
So if you have issues with your scooter take it here- and youll be riding your scooter home in no time! -

The people at Ace (especially Chad and Bee) are extremely helpful, nice and polite. I went with flaiz to drop off his scooter for some minor repairs and stayed for a bit to talk with Chad about my interest in buying an old bike (which has since happened!).
I stopped by again yesterday to pick up a batter charger which the offered for a reasonable price. Bee was very knowledgeable and took the time to explain what was good about the charger and how best to use it.
They stock Fulmer helmets as well. I had to order the color/size combo that I wanted, but i feel confident that they will take care of me once it arrives.
I have every intention of bringing my motorcycle here for service the next time it is required.
I can't say enough nice things about these people. I encourage you to visit them for all your scooter and motorcycle needs. -

Went here after getting burned at another Chicago scooter repair shop. I took my scooter into another shop for one thing which they didn't do right but they also busted something else on my scooter.
I knew what was wrong but didn't have the tools to fix it so after asking around I went to Ace where they fixed the issue.
They sell scooters but I'm only speaking on their repair side. Go here, you pay what you get for. -

Ya know what Ace really needs?
I'll tell ya!
An old fashion Coco-Cola machine that shoots( with a loud "clunk"), an icy bottle straight into yer hand for a silver half dollar!
And an old park bench with the paint peeling off for ya to sit a spell and chew about how good the warm weather feels whilst the friendly expert and honest mechanics ready your bike.
Because to walk into the
parking lot ( located on a quite and lonesome stretch in the far back yard of the chaotic loop)
is to be transformed back in time to a slower more genteel era.
And no, this ain't no hipster strut 'n roster house, cause the person who greets ya at the gate wearing the overalls
is a women named Bee.

there's a pretty good reason why they avg a 5 start review: they've earned it.
i've been here twice the past few months. the first time, my scooter needed the battery replaced. I thought a jump start would do it but they came out, tested the voltage and recommended the battery. i didn't make an appointment but was grateful they were able to quickly help me out
my scooter then got stolen and i bought a used one. first day i bought it, back tire went flat. i was downtown, in the loop. i wheeled it in and even without an appt, they were willing to check it out. they replaced the battery, both tires (bald, my oversight), checked the carb and tuned it up. runs like new. very smooth. i was also very happy that they were willing to expedite my service rather than waiting in queue.
their customer service is awesome. they follow up on phone calls, they give all the options and do it efficiently and with a smile. for the tires, they offered 4 different models. before they did any work, they asked if they should proceed or said some service could wait. in other words, their service is transparent and therefore much appreciated.
also, their mechanics are very good. they have extensive experience in vintage motorcycles and scooters and patiently answer any question posed to them. they aren't grumpy, rude or unsure of themselves, a common trait among most mechanics. overall, this is easily the best place to get your 2 wheel vehicle serviced in the entire city. and i've been to all them. -

I recently took my bike in for an oil change and was really pleased with the customer service. What I liked most about the service is the rapid response to any e-mails that I sent prior to bringing in my bike for its appointment. You will not find any bike shop that will treat e-mail as a serious form of communication.
Also, they had my bike ready within roughly an hour, so I did not have to worry about picking it up some other day.1 Previous Review: Show all »

I got the scoot scoot repaired here just a good month ago. I was having some problems with my steer head since it had a bit of play to it. I thought it'd be some major problem since I spoke with someone from 'Little Al's Motorcycle Repair' shop but it only took an hour for them to fix! That hour only consisted of $32. Not only did they fix my steer head but they fixed some squeaky noise that it's been secretly making. As soon as I road off on it, I noticed a change, a good one that is. Great customer service.

I needed a scooter jacket and I couldn't find one where I live (Milwaukee). So, after doing a bit of research online, I decided to drive down to Ace Motorcycle and Scooter to check out their jackets (I also needed a helmet and figured I would check there as well).
First off, Ace is extremely easy to get to off of the highway- I made it from my door to Ace's in an hour and 20 minutes! No need to deal with crazy traffic since they are on a quiet street in the West Loop. When we walked in, Bee immediately greeted us and made us feel very welcome. Since this was my first time buying a scooter jacket and helmet, Bee helped explain to me what I needed to look for and what I needed to take into account. And she didn't rush me or make me feel like I was wasting her time, which has happened at other places. I walked out with a pretty snazzy jacket by Go Go Gear and a Fulmer helmet.
I would make the drive down to Ace again in a heartbeat! -

After spending months trying to find a scooter shop that would actually acknowledge my non-Vespa scooter, I stumbled upon this great shop. I have a 1987 Honda Elite SE that was in dire need of an overhaul. I called Bee up on a Tuesday, dropped my scooter off on a Wednesday and had it back in a week! Bee was honest about the cost of everything up front and emailed me a detailed bill before any work started so that I could budget for what needed to be completed.
I had a general tune-up and rims, tires, and tubes replaced. Both Bee and the mechanics were awesome and answered all of my stupid n00b questions. I seriously couldn't have asked for a better experience. I'm pretty sure I'll be back for all of my yearly tune-ups! -

I called Ace the other day to find out what types of scooters they sell. Well, I ended up in a conversation with a guy who explained all the ins and outs of buying a scooter, which brands to avoid, etc. We were on the phone for a good 10-15 minutes. He was so incredibly helpful. It's difficult today to a) get a live person on the phone and b) get a helpful live person on the phone and so my dealing with Ace was awesome. Based on the conversation with him I'd say they are the most knowledgeable folks about scooters and motorcycles--more so than any other place I have visited in Chicagoland. I wish you carried SYM scooters so I wouldn't have to deal with the folks at Scooterworks.

Took my scooter in as it was making crazy noises. Chad, Bee and the crew are the friendliest group I have met in a long time. Not only did they fix my scooter but they only charged me $21.00 to tighten a loose muffler assembly. What they did not tell me was that they also adjusted the brakes and the idle speed....my scooter actually runs better than when I bought it last year! These people are the real deal!

This place is an absolute must for anyone who plans on buying a scooter at anytime!
My fiance and I just recently decided that we wanted to buy a scooter so we started to shop around. We didn't know a lot about scooters so when everyone told us how great their scooters were we just believed them. We went to Ace to see if they had any for sale after going to 4 or 5 other shops. Unfortunately there were no scooters for sale at the time so we were a little sad, but Bee talked to us about what bikes were good and what bikes to stay away from for at least 15 minutes. It was the best experience that we had with any shop, and we didn't even look at any bikes!
Bee was amazing and super cool the entire time, she was our personal hero and even gave us her card and told us to call her if we had any questions the entire time. If anything happens to our bike at all you can guarantee that we're taking it back to Ace just because of how great she was. -

I was looking into the purchase of a used scooter. The one I found was almost brand new, but it had sat for a while and would not run. After messing with it myself for a few hours I got it started but would still not run correctly.
The seller called the dealer and the said they were backed up and it would be a couple weeks.... So I came to Yelp for help.
After reading other reviews of Ace, I decided to bring the Yamaha VIno in to them. Chad took 1 look at it, gave me a price and told me to come back the next day. It was done the next moring, the price was the same as when I left, and the scooter runs like new.

This is an update.
So a week later, my points and condenser came in for my bike and dropped it off.
It took a while (it being a saturday), but Ace also replaced some tubing and other things on my bike.
Per usual, Bee and I talked whenever it died down about anything and everything (i.e. what i do for a living, her time spent in Europe) - she is just awesome.
When my bike got finished up, per usual, Chad took out for a spin to feel her out and give any more recommendations regarding it. They figured out why I was getting poor mileage doing highway (Turns out the final drive wasn't the original one).
Bee jokingly said that they should get me my own sitting stool with my name on it - I was kind of hoping she wasn't joking.
This place is great. You'll also meet some of the coolest riders who come in and give them their business.1 Previous Review: Show all »
