We had such a great experience at the Ace. I highly recommend this hotel!

I really have to say thank you to Steven (?) for making sure I had my iPod! I accidently left it in the hotel room, but he put it in my suitcase we left in storage the last day. Everyone that works there was so friendly and awesome.

    Lemme break it down:
Room- Comfy bed, window overlooking the street, sink in the room, free wifi. You even get a Brita pitcher in your room for clean drinking water. You don't really need more than that.
Cleanliness- A+. The whole hotel was super clean and nice looking
Shared bathroom thing- Not a big deal. The bathrooms were always clean and available. We never had to wait.
Location- Within walking distance to everything touristy. Great bars and restaurants right outside the door. A quick walk to the free downtown buses.
Breakfast-Granola, waffles, toast, juice and milk (cow and soy). Basic but yummy and all you need to start the day.

This is actually the second Ace that we've stayed at (the other one was in Palm Springs), and it's always been a wonderful experience. We probably won't even look at other hotels when we go to more cities that they are in.

The Ace Hotel came highly recommended so it wasn't even a question where I would stay during my recent trip to Seattle...

Katy H told me a bit about the history of the hotel and of course, that it's the "original" Ace.  Crystal told me to request a basement room with a courtyard and behind-the-bed shower.  I did as I was told and was not disappointed!

When I walked in, I was greeted by Richard.  He and the rest of the staff were extremely friendly.  As I walked to my room, I got a feel for the uniqueness of the hotel - it's not your big chain my any means.  It's got a hipster / European / indie vibe to it.  Some of the rooms do not have private bathrooms, so if that is something important to you, I recommend requesting a room with a private bathroom.  And while my room (#130) did have a bathroom, a little courtyard, and a funky shower, it didn't have a hairdryer, and the robe that is in the room is thin - not warm and cozy as I've experienced elsewhere.  One more thing worth mentioning is that the walls are thin at the Ace.  I could hear people in the hallways, above me, and in other rooms.

I used the free wifi at the hotel without any issues - huge perk there!  I didn't take full advantage of the continental breakfast, but I did check out the community room and took some fruit and granola to snack on during my stay.  The hotel is located in Belltown, which is a super cool area with lots of shops and restaurants.  It's about a 15 minute walk from Pike Place Market.

I usually stay in hotels that have some sort of gym/fitness center and while the Ace is lacking in that department, they are only a 15 minute walk from Seattle Athletic Club and it's a $15 daily rate to take advantage of their facility.

I'm definitely a fan of the Ace but if you go, just don't keep your expectations in check; it's no luxury hotel, but the room rate, service, vibe, and uniqueness make it worth it in my book!

This was perfect for our long weekend stay in Seattle. This stylish and unique establishment was just right for us.

You walk up a long flight of stairs to get to the front desk. Later, you walk down multiple flights to get to breakfast. Parking was 2+ blocks away but you can stop out front to drop off and pick up. It's all fun and good exercise, at the same time. I would not recommend bringing giant suitcases.

Our room was quite large, with a skylight to wake us in the morning. OK, This was way cool but not so appreciated after a long evening that stretched well in to the early morning.

At times you're forced to sacrifice function for form. It looks like the designers of the Ace Hotel did so willingly.

The hotel decor is like a spread out of Dwell magazine. Stylishly modern white walls, creepy/funky red lamps in the hallway, and a curio cabinet with crystal balls, taxidermy, and objet d'art in the lounge. The rooms are also, um, cute. We stayed in a private double with whitewashed exposed brick, a rolling bathroom door, mountain landscapes on the walls, and a view of the alleyway behind the hotel. You feel like you're crashing at your cool Dutch friend's pad in Brooklyn.

But, what the hotel interior has in stylish abundance, its rooms lack in function. Our private double, which ran at about $170/night, lacked a hair dryer, iron, and even a closet. We were forced to hang towels and shirts on the radiator like it was tenement housing. The shower curtain was a jarring sheet of red plastic. It felt like a scene out of Psycho when you closed them shut. The kitchen is a nice added touch but you can't access any of the utensils since it's locked up at night. The hotel has a contracted car service that takes you to the airport at $40 a pop (which is nice) but they lack valet or any contracted parking. The Wi-Fi was on, then off, then on.... finally off.

So, all in all, it's not for those who look for both form and function. It's more the former. Much less of the latter.

We were pleasantly surprised and relieved to find the Ace Hotel.

First and foremost, Ed is the most welcoming and down to earth person to interact with.  When we walked in he greeted us like we were old friends and quickly breezed us through the paperwork process and the hotel orientation and gave us directions around town.

We stayed one day and then went to Vancouver for 2 nights and came back.

Upon our return, he upgraded us to a larger room when we returned.  So sweet!

He also gave us great dining suggestions like The Coaterie Room.

A lot of people, including myself, get a bit skeeved out by the fact that the smaller more economical rooms have shared bathrooms.  But really, it's a hotel.  You are always sharing your bathroom AND your room with other people.  That's the idea right?

The rooms were very clean and quirky.  It was a little annoying to have to leave the room to pee but at the end of the day it was a very reasonable price option for our budget and well worth it.

I'm looking forward to visiting other cities with Ace Hotels.

The Ace Hotel is quite nice for the price. It has a rather European flavor in regards to size and layout; almost like a hostel.
It's in a good, walkable location and the staff is very nice and helpful.

Downside is that the rooms are noisy from all the bathroom vents (and I'm used to NYC noise) plus, the walls are paper thin which means you can hear your neighbors doing... well... everything you don't want to hear..!!

A  HOTEL WITH ONLY SHARED BATHROOMS?: EEEEWWWWWW !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Then I realized that I do use the public showers at the gym, dance studio, and Yoga studio...and all the Ace Hotel reviews average 4 Stars and say its cool...so since I was going solo for 1 night and it was only $109/night for downtown Seattle, I took a leap of faith...Yelpers have never been wrong right? ;-)

    PROS:
    1. Bathrooms: Clean, lockable, chic, free shampoo/conditioner/body wash...it was really doable. I'd even have sex in here.
    2. Location: Space Needle, Pikes Market, Cruiseship Terminal and "dozens" bars within walking distance. Ace is even on top of a bar, Cyclops, and it was alright.
    3. Breakfast: Free! I ate 2 Belgian Waffles, 1 Bowl of Almond Granola with Soy Milk, 3 cups of coffee, 2 cups of OJ, and 1 Apple.
    4: Bed: Warm and Cozy.
    5. Free WiFi
    6. Noon Checkout! Plus you can leave your luggage in their office afterwards.
    7. Ambience: Cool, Modern, Hip, IKEAish, and Clean.
    8. Boys: The guys who staffed this place were friendly, helpful, and pretty darn cute(I'm 49% gay, so I can admire).

    CONS:
    1.  It might be a bit noisy, I was in room 124, but Ace does provide ear plugs in the goodie jar.
    2. Your American girlfriend or wife probably won't find this very romantic...though 2 condoms are provided in the room for free. (Also in the goodie jar.)
    3. Small room, but its definitely doable if you don't plan on being in your room much anyways.
    4. More hostel than hotel...but you do get your own private room...and I've never stayed in a hostel so I guess I can't make a legit comparison.
    5. The price could be a bit lower, but $109 was the cheapest in downtown Seattle / Belltown.

I didn't see many other guests around, but they all seemed to be foreign or hipsterish, and at age 33 1/3, I think I was the oldest person staying there. If you've done the hostel thing in Europe, Ace is for you. I'd definitely stay at another Ace Hotel again... but only if I was going solo again and if I'm not a rich snob by then.

TIP1: Don't forget to bring your room towels with you to the shower! I had to make a run for it, soaking wet, back to my room.  :(

TIP2: If you're flying into SEA-TAC, take the Light Link Rail to downtown Seattle for only $2.75. If you just have a carry-on luggage you can probably hoof the 10 blocks to Ace, but otherwise a taxi from the station was only another $4.75.

Excellent things can grow from excellent ideas. Though it doesn't always succeed or grow on a smooth path, it is awesome to watch a concept transform and breed new iterations of the original. That's how I would frame the Ace Hotel phenomena that's swept from west to east.

I'm very familiar with the New York offspring of this Seattle original. Very cool, celeb chef in their restaurant, lounge for a lobby and some serious partners names partnered up: Stumptown Coffee in the front,  Opening Ceremony in the back and more I'm sure to come.

All that swagger grew out of an original hotel in Seattle. One which still offers excellent pricing for both European-style rooms (ahem, bathroom outside of the room) and Deluxe suites ($199 and worth every penny). The staff is friendly and accommodating; though please remember that the front door locks at midnight so grab that key before hitting the town! The modern design and simple but ultra cool decor feels opulent in comparison to your run of the mill big box hotels. WiFi is free to use and besides your room, you can choose to work in the front shared area with the terrarium or event downstairs in the dining area. Oh yea, in addition to WiFi and super sweet rooms, they offer a continental breakfast that includes a waffle maker and Stumptown Coffee. And a copy of the New York Times.

Location-wise, it's just outside of the touristy area so Pike Place Market is only a 15 minute stroll away and the streets are very walkable. In my opinion, there's no better place to stay in Seattle for that price! Don't mess with an original.

Update: The hotel was nice enough to contact me. Folks that read their Yelp reviews are top notch in my book

    *************

Pro-Tip: Don't get the standard room.

Longer tale: This hotel is pretty as a picture and I've heard tell (like that?) that there are rooms that feed all your wildest comfortable hotel room fantasies. But this review is for a standard room... which does not.

After 5.5 hours of travelling all the way from the middle of Texas, then walking 13 blocks from the lightlink that broke down with my suitcase, I trudged up the (admittedly gorgeous) steps to the Ace Hotel, tired, dirty, and excited for some one-on-one time with a shower, a cool room and a bed. The girl who greeted me had been really nice about my incessant phone calls asking how to get there. We figured out my room, I sigh, open the door... and the panorama that awaits me is not exactly what I expected.

    -- two single twin beds
    -- a small fan
-- communal shower (just down the hall, y'all!)
    -- no bathroom
    -- a tiny sink
-- two windows overlooking a busy street (great on a Friday night with cars zooming by)
    -- a mini tissue packet

Surely a mistake? Hotel rooms don't exist like this outside of Europe for $15 a night? No mistake. It's a standard room. Unfortunately, I think this makes the whole situation a function of miscommunication. Everything else was fine. You've got a breakfast where you get to make your own waffles, the shower's clean and there are mirrors in your room for makeup application.  But based on my experience alone, it was just A-Ok for Aces.

I've been a huge fan of the Ace Hotel ever since moving to the Pacific Northwest. I'm such a fan that I've stayed at three of the four Ace Hotel's nationwide.

I first discovered this gem on a Thanksgiving weekend trip up to Seattle from Portland. I was looking for a simple, inexpensive place to lay my head for a long weekend in the Emerald City and this place did the trick. The Ace is actually better than a cheap place to sleep but also a great concept.

Since that initial visit to the Seattle Ace, I have tried to stay there every time I make the trek north. And as I mentioned before, I've been to Portland Ace and the Ace Resort in Palm Springs which are both equally as great this one.

The rooms are unique and plenty of options to suit your needs. The standard rooms with shared bathrooms are a great option for one person. Upgrade to the deluxe room where your headboard is a glass wall which doubles as a shower wall. Additionally, they come with a great little patio into the interior courtyard, which is great for your four legged friends.

The common dining room is a great way to meet your fellow Acers in the morning barring they're not some douchey bachelor party group (Ugh, that was an awful experience). Overall, the rooms are fairly quiet especially those in the interior of the building. The staff has always be extremely friendly and knowledgable.

I'm just sad that I'm now living in Texas and have less of an opportunity to visit the Ace as often.

TIP: Don't always rely on the website for reservations. Give them a call, they will most likely have a room available. If not, they will put you on a cancellation list.

I don't think there is enough space in this review box for me to say all the things I need to say about the Ace Hotel. I will start with, it's fantastic and you really should stay there.

I needed to escape Vancouver and thought that a trip to Seattle would be best. Given that I was flying solo I figured I'd ask some of my friends where to stay and they all said the Ace. So I called down on a Tuesday, booked the last room available on the Friday Saturday, hopped on the train and went down. I'm so glad I did.

The Staff - The staff are all incredibly lovely.  There is someone at the front desk all day and most of the night and they are happy to talk Seattle, or really anywhere else you might be going. I had a great time just chatting with them about what to do.

The Rooms - Rooms at the Ace are really lovely. For the most part they have double beds, a little sink and shelf, tv and some snacks. They don't have washrooms attached to the rooms, I don't think any of the Aces do but that doesn't make it any less enjoyable.

In fact, I got some pretty bad food poisoning one night and spent the evening attached to the bathroom and even still I didn't mind that they were shared.

The check in-out and breakfast times at the Ace are fantastic. They have a longer continental breakfast time which is nice to take your time to head down. They've got a great little kitchen area and a share-book shelf.

All in all I was really impressed with the Ace. Much more than I thought I would be. It was a little loud at night on Wall St but to be totally honest it didn't bother me at all. I say, check it out!

Seems like a fancy hostel to me. Although I guess that's the Ace's appeal. It sure beats a ripoff hotel!
I definitely appreciate the DIY breakfast and the Stumptown. The WiFi is pretty weak down in the Ace Space, but I actually like that as it prevents laptops from littering the tiny table-tops. Staff are cool. The parking lot is only a block away and fairly priced at $24 for my remaining 33 hours with in-out privileges. So far I am digging it here.

It doesn't get better than the Ace!

When you combine the really modern and somewhat minimalistic styled rooms with insanely affordable prices you get the best hotel in town. Even my friends who come to visit who have pretty big budgets love the Ace because of how funky it is.

Built in an old Seattle brick building, the rooms span a few different levels. It's easy to get lost but taking a tour is always fun! There's a great little breakfast room, a lobby with a rad terrarium and some rooms come with little covered patios or views of The Sound.

Most recently I peeped a room that was more unique than any hotel room I've seen. The entire back wall of the room was a room-wide glass shower! It operated as the headboard to the bed (so this room wouldn't be ideal for a pair unless they were lovers) but how sexy and awesome is that?! You could even watch TV from the shower if you wanted to go the super un-romantic route.

It's almost too bad I live in Seattle because I need more excuses to stay here!

A short PS to my earlier love note:

There are a couple of magical rooms in the basement. There's no view, and no window and it's a bit bright in there come sunrise, so why are basement rooms magic? The indoor courtyard and behind-the-bed shower sums it up.

I still love you, love you, love you!

What a great spot, in a fun neighborhood. We stayed in one of the rooms that had a little private courtyard- a nice surprise. My one criticism of the hotel is that our room was super stuffy, so being able to open a door to the outside really helped to freshen things up.

In our room, the bathroom was behind what can only be described as a secret spinning wall... a change of pace from the usual, um, door you might find at other joints.

Breakfast is included- it's just really basic coffee/juice/toast, so don't expect anything fancy, just something to start your day off right.

As someone quite unfamiliar with Seattle, I found the little guide in the guest room to be extremely helpful, particularly the part where they provided directions to a great jogging route along the water.

The next time I'm in town, I will DEFINITELY stay at the Ace.

Checked into the ACE for PAX weekend 2011. I found the place through http://hotels.com, so no points for me, but it was a godsend!

Great location, right in belltown with lots of bars and restaurants nearby. It was a 10 minute walk to the convention center and wasn't surrounded by overpriced tourist traps (Hard Rock Cafe and Cheesecake Factory, I'm frowning at you). It was also very close to the Pike Place market and the waterfront, so big plus there too!

But oh, wait, did I mention the inside? I don't think I did yet. Because the inside is filled with awesomeness. As a post-grad broke-ass youngster, staying in hotels is rarely an option for one such as me. When I can find a hostel with a private room, I'm lucky if I get more than one pillow and can find a shared bathroom with a shower that has hot water. My boyfriend and I took an economy room (what a deal those were!) with no bathroom...but ho! There were FIVE right in our hallway, each pristine, shower included, AND shampoo, conditioner, and body wash dispensers in those showers! HOLY BATMAN it did not get much better than that. (Plus, each bathroom had adjustable mood lighting and a sweet sound system - points for playing Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots by the Flaming Lips.)

Our room was pretty small but totally functional and awesome. There was an air conditioner in the window, jars with cotton balls and q-tips, etc., sink, AND a Britta filter! Oh, did I mention also that the bed was just as amazing as my pillowtop mattress at home? No I don't think I did...but there you go. As for noise: during the weekend we had some mad bass pumping through the room until about 10pm, but after that it stopped, and whatever white noise from the ac blocked out whatever else. (The front desk person told me over the phone that it's better to stay in the rear of the hotel if you don't want noise pollution.) If I were to stay here again, I would request a room towards the back again.

And last but not least, the continental breakfast and kitchen are excellent as well! The snack machine had all kinds of fun stuff in it (chocolate bars, playing cards, pocky, etc.), and there was access to coffee/tea/hot water 24/7. And GOOD JOB Ace Hotel on providing Stumptown Coffee! Continental breakfast included the usual, as well as a bitchin' waffle maker.

Goodness, I don't think I've talked this place up enough. Loved the decor, loved the service, and loved the location. If you want something really fancy, go somewhere else. If you want the best place you can possibly get on a budget, stay at the Ace!

I love this place! I call it my "Seattle home" as I visit Seattle several times a year and I don't feel right unless I'm staying here. From the cheapest rooms, where you have to share a shower down the hall, to the fanciest rooms that make you feel like a freaking rockstar -- Ace is the best! Their beds are the most comfortable beds I've ever slept in, their decor is just awesome, and the rooms are very minimalist but with everything a weary traveler could need.

The only negative: it's REALLY loud on Fridays and Saturdays -- there's a bar that plays loud music directly under the most affordable rooms, and there are a lot of drunken "whoohoo-ers" wandering beneath your window at night. To this day, the worst fight I've seen in my LIFE has taken place right outside the window to our room. BUT! That is to say, that's not the hotel's fault, just know that it's a lively neighborhood come night time.

The upside of the neighborhood is that EVERYTHING is within walking distance. Bars, restaurants, hair salons, etc. I wish I could live at the Ace Hotel in Belltown.

Location is probably best thing about the Ace.  Don't come here expecting much more.  Yes, the minimalist design is better than some chain hotel....but the quality of the materials are only average.  Bed is super soft and pillows were pretty crappy.

It will be noisy on a Sat night.  There's a bar downstairs and bars and restaurants all around the hotel.  Ask for ear plugs if you need to stop partying early to sleep.

If you didn't ride your bike there, there is street parking and parking lots nearby.  Front desk did not know where the nearest parking garage was.  I have a 2F2F car and was hesitant about parking on the street.  Ended up with food thrown all over it the next morning.  Closest garage I think is at 2nd ave and Stewart.

Also, no AC (room was toasty upon arrival) but it should cool down at night to open the windows for some fresh air.

If it were possible to marry I hotel I would have swooped in on the Ace Hotel in Seattle this weekend. That's also provided my current husband didn't mind sharing me with a hotel? Whoa. This review is really taking a turn toward the naughty... Moving on...

Staying at any Ace Hotel is like staying at your super hip friend's studio in the best neighborhood of the city. There is nothing at this place that makes you feel like you're in a hotel which I enjoy. Keep in mind though this isn't a luxury 5 star kind of place. It can be a tad bit drafty and the raucous crowds on the street will be heard through your windows if you're facing the street side of the building.

    BUT.

The beds are oh-so cozy. The comforters are oh-so-warm. The staff is oh-so-friendly. And you really do feel crazy cool in the rooms, the check-in area or any of the work areas as well.

The coolest part of my stay might have been the continental breakfast. I know, I know. It sounds kind of lame, but this continental breakfast has a waffle maker and pre-mixed waffle batter that you pour into said maker and flip to turn a timer on. 2 minutes and 27 seconds later you're pouring maple syrup on the Belgian waffle you just created with minimal effort. I am a sucker for novelty and this thing hit it out of the park.

Also included in this breakfast is Stumptown coffee, fruit, yogurt, granola, and fresh-squeezed juices. Holla!.

And I lied - the coolest thing about my stay was my bathroom. Check out this picture to see what I mean: http://www.yelp.com/bi...

    So cool, right?

The Ace is a good bet for your money, if you're traveling on a budget.  We got the standard room with the shared bath; the room was small but clean and the bed was comfy.  Our room was facing the outer wall which is right above a lively street with lots of activity well past 3 am, but luckily we had ear plugs.  The shared bathroom situation is fine: there was never a wait for one to open up and they do lock, so you have it to yourself once inside.

The best thing about this Ace was the included continental breakfast: make-your-own-waffle station, fresh juice, Stumptown coffee (in to go cups!), bread and a toaster, granola, yogurt and fruit.  It had everything I would want.

Overall I'd say the Ace Hotel in Portland is the better of the two, but I would stay here again.

As far as "no frills" hotels, they don't get better. With most rooms under $100/night, you have plenty of shared bathrooms and showers across the hall so in my 4 days here I never waited, and a sink an mirror in each room. Rooms have a bed, desk, chair, tv, shelves and snacks. Free Wifi which all hotels are charging these days for. Free breakfast from 6am-noon so you could probably sneak in as an early lunch too with make your own waffles, yogurt, granola, toast, fruit, oj, coffee and tea.
I'm sold on the Ace brand now and want to stay here whenever available.

It pains me to write this update as the Ace is still one of the most fun, affordable options for the person who wants boutique feel without the price tag.  At $99/night for a shared bath the Ace is still a great deal in Seattle's close-to-everything Belltown.

Unfortunately this time around I feel like the place is starting to look pretty beat up.  The pretty wooden stairs are showing some wear and tear.  There are scuff marks all over the off-white matte finish desk area.  The rooms and bathrooms seem a bit worn down and not as clean as they usually have in the past.  Nothing a sanding and new coat of paint couldn't fix but it definitely gives the impression of the place being a little more shabby  than it gave in the past.

I came here for business and did a very last minute reservation for a standard room. I believe I was given the most absolute worst room in the building. It was the size of a prison cell and deeply resembled one. I was mostly working form the hotel so it mattered more to me than someone who is only stopping in to sleep. I got a great rate, but it really made me uncomfortable HOWEVER the staff was aware of the size and switched me to a larger room as soon as one opened up. It was SO much better!

Overall - the staff is great and took care of everything all the time. They were super-chill people who you could actually talk to. The whole vibe of the joint is a little quirky, but that makes it special, right?!

My biggest suggestion: make a note to avoid the interior standard rooms at all costs. Those are the prison cells and you may not be happy (unless you don't plan on hanging out at the hotel much)

And if you can - ask for the large rooms. Each is different than the others and have really cool funk-a-tude.

I really enjoyed my visit at the Ace last weekend. We had the basic room without a shower/bathroom. The room comes with a sink, mirror, clock/radio, lamps, desk, bedding, fan, bathrobes, hangers, TV, etc. Everything except a bathroom.

The service was wonderful and the hotel was secure. It is locked at night and there is always an attendant to buzz you in.

Breakfast is free and is downstairs. It's cereal, waffles, fruit, yogurt, juice and coffee. There is also a coffee and coffee pot in your room (but no tea).

Parking was $19/ for one full day (overnight included). The parking lot was a little sketchy but we didn't have a problem with any break-ins.. just some chatty Kathys waiting for the bus nearby.

Location was perfect, there was on street parking available. I would stay again!

I've stayed at the Ace hotel twice on two separate visits to Seattle. The main selling point was the price for me since I was going to be in town for a while.

The standard queen (or double twin if you have a friend) is a virtually unbeatable deal for the price (80-120) considering the location. The downside of course: no in-room bathrooms. But!  I was willing to take the walk down the hall to their insanely clean bathrooms, for a savings of  500 dollar over the duration of my trip.

Like many reviewers said before me, their breakfast is one of the best I've ever had.  During my stay, there was plenty of bagels, coffee, waffle batter (and waffle maker!) granola, among an assortment of fresh fruits.

The neighborhood of Belltown which the hotel is in offers plenty of nightlife and dining options. The infamous public market is only a half mile away to the south, the space needle and music experience is only a little over a half mile to the north.

For the first timer to Seattle who wants to spend more on going out than they do on their hotel, this is the ideal spot to do it at.

Let's Talk About How The Ace Hotel Was Full Of Awesome.

I needed a hotel that didn't cost me a bizzilion dollars because I had to convince my boyfriend to please please please let's go to Seattle and have awesome times in the Pacific Northwest. So, off I go with my research hat on and find out I can stay at the Ace Hotel for $99 -- so I'm stoked right, and it doesn't sound so bad having to share a bathroom because the space looks hip & cool. So, we arrive in Seattle, check into the Ace Hotel and find out a couple of other cool things that I didn't know.

One.) They Offer a Complimentary Breakfast --toast, granola, jams, butter, coffee, etc.
Two.) There are a Bunch of Free Local Magazines in the Lobby which Rock, so that's helpful when you're killing time or trying figure out where you want to go for the evening!
Three.) The Showers were never busy and there are quite a few to share, so no worries about that.
Four.) The desk personal were great to talk to, played great music & were helpful pretty much all the time.
Five.) Andre Has a Posse, at the Ace Hotel.
Six.) Condoms & A Kama Sutra -- Classy.

Love the eames chairs, minimalist appeal, and the fact that Belltown was such an awesome abeit loud place to me (you may want to make good use of the earplugs they provide you!) Wonderful stay -- be sure to hit up the Macrina Bakery across the street for the best bread I've ever, ever tasted.

Located right in the heart of Belltown... Showcased pure simplicity.
Room 117 is the best room in the hotel: Has windows on two walls which provides a great view point for people watching and eaves-dropping on the drunkards at the bar below. =)

The room is peacefully simple.  Stark white walls, door, windows, closet, bed, sink, tiny tv, simple wall decor, the end.  Where in the hell is the bathroom?

The community bathrooms are located down the hall.  Incredibly clean, strong, sturdy toilets, lots of counter space and outlets, with high ceilings.  PERFECTO!

The first night, we were FAREEZING!  (Seattle in January... YOU do the math.) We slept in our coats, bracing ourselves as we slept.  The second day, we found a tiny heater under a table. EUREKA!

My only gripe is for the hotel parking.  It's about 3 blocks away.. just doesn't make any sense.

FOR ME....The BEST part of the hotel were the room keys.  They didn't offer you one of those electronic swiper thingys.. It was good a old fashioned brass key with our room number on it. SIGH! How refreshing!  ADDITIONALLY, they lock the front door at midnight; so if you're out partying till the wee hours in the morning, they give you a key for the front door as well.

    PROS:
    simple
    different
    ridiculously clean
old fashioned with a modern, edgy twist
    great views
walking distance from bars and nightlife

    CONS:
    inconspicuous heater

I love, love, love Ace Hotel. As a web designer, this hotel is a dream come true. Everything is white, in right angles, and has modified round edges. So Swiss. So clean. Ah so much white space.

The exposed brick walls are painted white, the nightstand is a frosted plastic light cube, the chair in the room is an Eames-inspired rocking chair with Eiffel legs, and every room has different art work on the walls. Downstairs in the kitchen there is coffee and tea 24/7, a white vending machine, and laundry and dryer!

As a New Yorker visiting Seattle for the first time to meet her boyfriend who she hasn't seen in 12 days (read: dry spell), we stayed up quite late. The next day the housekeeper thoughtfully left 2 condoms in the room. The following day the housekeeper knocked on the door. Holding up a pair of hot pink, leopard print thong underwear, she asked me, "Is this yours? I found it in a bunch of towels and thought maybe you lost it?" Isn't that just SO thoughtful? (The pair of thongs did not belong to me).

The boys in the front desk and the one gal I chatted with are superb. They and the hotel are definitely the only crew that has style in an otherwise pretty cheesy part of town with a dragging night scene which I compare to a deserted meat-packing district but without the transvestites and pigeons. Thus, boring.

BTW, the rates at the Ace are really good too.

I can see how this might not be the best place to stay in a heat wave (no air conditioning or fans), but I doubt Seattle has them often.

I'm always a bit skeptical about "hostel" type places, but this one was great. I didn't mind the shared bathroom situation at all - in fact, I never ONCE ran into a single other person in the hallway. It was pretty quiet inside the hotel overall.

The street can be pretty loud - lots of disturbed people yelling (there's a clinic nearby) and bar patrons from Cyclops Bar below. Definitely just ask for a room that's quiet, off the main street and you should be fine. The hotel is in the middle of Belltown - sort of a hipster haven, a little industrial feeling, with a coupla nice looking bars & restaurants.

We were right around the corner from Mars Hill Church, which we were curious to check out. To give you a feel for the neighborhood, the church had a security guard out front. So, it's not the best.

    Anyway, first impressions:

-STAIRS (a lot of them) are not really the first thing you want to see upon opening the door to a hotel carrying heavy bags. What can ya do tho. I'm sure space is at a premium downtown. Not a lot of room for fancy elevators in what is essentially a hostel.

-FRONT ENTRANCE was bustling due to a bar / restaurant right on the sidewalk. Their patio nearly hides the door to the hotel, so you always feel like you're walking into the middle of a house party when coming "home" each night. It was a nice feeling actually.

-FRONT DESK at the top of the stairs was minimalist but functional. Guy at the counter looked to be a student - laid back, young, friendly and helpful enough (not as bitter and jaded as most hotel staff often become). Guidebooks and magazines were offered in the lobby at a long table just next to the desk.

-HALLWAYS were quiet, seemed fairly clean. Little icons on the walls directed you to the continental breakfast area, showers, phone, etc.

-ROOMS were just big enough for a desk, a bed, a side table and a tiny little stainless steel sink with mirror. Decor is very CB2 modern. The Andre the Giant Obey image was billboarded all over the wall where a headboard normally would have been. Bed itself was comfortable enough, and the room seemed clean. Carpet was industrial style and not offensive in any way, OCD-wise.

-BREAKFAST was basically Kirkland (Costco) yogurts, cereal and coffee. All were a nice addition to the relatively affordable stay.

-BATHROOMS were always empty, very, very basic - mostly tile and stainless steel everything. No frills. They did offer towels, washclothes and robes in the room. Shampoo / conditioner, soap in the bathrooms. Aside from a few stray hairs in the shower (gross), you mostly don't know you are sharing a bathroom.

-AMBIANCE: Music was pumped into the bathrooms. Little radio next to the bed had a place to plug in your ipod. Nice touches for us young folks.

I would definitely recommend the Ace to anyone under the age of 35 on a budget.

I don't know why, but after reading all the reviews and seeing the pictures of this Hotel i was a little skeptical about staying here. Maybe it was because i was intimidated by the hip factor of this place and thought i would look frumpy and out of place in a sea of cool 20 to 30 somethings. Whatever the reasons, my irrational fears were shattered when i arrived at this hotel a few weeks back for my stay.

I was greeted by an adorable man with a bronx-esq accent? He was so sweet and informed me he had put me in the corner room overlooking the street. I walked into the room and was amazed with the size and decor. It was so beautiful i whipped out my camera and starting snapping photos straight away. The giant door/mirror/wall that separated the bathroom was extremely cool. We had a huge king sized bed and all the amenities one would hope for in a hotel. The dinning commons and the overall community feel of the hotel was so different than i am used to, being from the standoffish city of los angeles, and i found it to be a real nice change of pace.

I loved this place and I really want to stay at their other locations specifically the Portland one. I highly highly recommend the Ace hotel.

oh its also in a great location and you are literally steps away from public transit and a few more steps away from pike market and shopping and great restaurants and the whole bit.

    go here.

The Ace Hotel is conveniently located in a great area (a good walk to the Public Market, shopping area and the needle). It's a flight up to the "main reception level".

I would suggest upgrading to a deluxe if you want a more comfortable stay, but if you are budget conscious and wants to save any amount of bucks, then stick w/the standard.

The Standard Room (which my friends stayed in): is smaller, has a sink, a desk, a small lcd tv, a fan, a full size bed and a stool to sit on. It's basically a one person room if you want comfy, but if you're opting to share, if you have too much stuff, your space will decrease.

The Deluxe Room (which i lapped it up in): full bathroom, fridge, ac, medium sized lcd tv, desk w/chair, lounge couch, a mini-nook to hang clothing, queen size bed, a bed side lamp, and a rocking chair. It had exposed brick on one side of the wall and top half mirror plus wood paneling bottom on the other side. Thank goodness the room i was in was decent. It had a duo showers and was shrouded in a red see through shower curtain. If you want super privacy, I slid the door (which doubles for the potty door) to cover a bit. I can't help it if i'm a prude/modest. I fell in love with their Ralph Brand line of products. If you like, you can purchase directly w/them (they'll charge to the room) or go around the corner (even get a cut) to Ralph's to pick some up.

I love how right by the front desk, there's an area to sit and go online w/my netbook (wifi free throughout the building) or jot down items to do while visiting from their copies of travel books. For complimentary breakfast from 7:30-12pm, you have your pick of toast, yogurt, granola, apples, do-it-yourself waffles, milk, coffee, tea, and water. A tellie in the "mess hall" to keep you updated with the day's news while you munch on your breakfast.

The staff is superb. They are super friendly and helpful. Gave me a break on the room when i decided to upgrade my room while checking-in. Super! And I don't know whether to thank or lament on the excellent recommendation of Macrina. I was there EVERY day I was in Seattle. Sometimes twice. I even got a card that's almost due for a freebie (dang it, should have max used it).

Alas, all good things come to a close. After my vacation and I returned home, I was slightly disappointed in seeing my room. I expected to come home to the relaxation decor as that of the hotel. Have no fear, I will convert thee to a minimalist modern feel!!

This is the most unique hotel I've stayed at. It's very modern, but has lots of personality. We loved the cool fish tank in the lobby, as well as the gigantic hutch.

We reserved a very nice, corner room. The size was perfect. We had our own bathroom as well. I liked the modern, SIMPLE decor.

If you're looking for quaint and cozy, this ISN'T it. But, this place is really awesome. The bed was also super comfortable.

So, why not five stars?? The continental breakfast. It's AWESOME that it goes till noon, oh and it's FREE. But, it wasn't impressive. Come on! They couldn't get hooked up with some yummy baked goods from one of the COUNTLESS Seattle bakeries?? No peanut butter?? Plain, white bread?? Crappy fruit?? Ya. That's my one complaint.

Other than that... SUPER fun, unique, artsy place. Will be staying here again. For sure.

Oh, and free wi-fi and cable TV on a flat screen. Nice perks.

    ONE TIP:
Don't go for their $19 parking. Psh! We found parking less than a block away, and paid $10 for overnight. Nope, didn't have a break in. I also don't drive a Lamborghini, so there is that...

Actually heard myself say to the person at the front desk, "All hotels should be this hotel."  It's like I dorked right out, right there in the communal hallway.

But it's true - everything said here is spot on.  Too bad it is so noisy, especially with the rooms facing the street (we were in 104), yet I so enjoyed rocking in an Eames chair, hanging out the window, waiting for my man to come home and tell me we're moving to Panama.

Ideal for a weekend get away, not so much if you have to get up early for a job interview downtown.  We got in last minute after talking to the W, who wanted $395 for the night.

Don't upgrade for an en suite bath - not worth it. The communal showers are clean and always available.

My favorite part was the bent stainless steel shelves. Scathingly, functionally formed...perfect.

Best hotel stay I've ever had.

Room was spacious, good view, loved the artwork on the wall, and the bed was comfy.

The shared bathrooms were cleaner than most bathrooms in a private room!

Breakfast in the morning was simple, but perfect.

The location is great. Easy to use public transport, close to the water, and easy to get to nightlife. And the decor is modern.

But I still haven't gotten to the best part. The folks at the front desk. I am sad I do not remember their names. When I got there, the woman who was working was sooooo nice. She smiled, chatted me up, made sure I had everything I needed, and when I wandered by a little later, stopped what she was doing and chatted me up some more, making sure the room was okay. I came back a little later and asked her about restaurants and bars. She said to come back in 15 or 20 minutes and she'd see what she could come up with (she wasn't real familiar with the gay bars in town). So I did. She had come up with a ton of restaurant choices all around the area of the city I was headed to. Plus mapped out all the bars for me. She didn't have to do that. Oh, and she called a cab for me.

Next morning the gentleman at the front desk was almost nicer than the woman from the night before. Chatted me up, asked me about my adventures, where I lived, etc. He had no problem letting me stash my bags while I went sightseeing that day, either (even though I'd already checked out).

And the price was good. I've paid way too much at other hotels and gotten a ton less. But the value here is great.

If I had more hands, I'd give it more than two thumbs up.

I can't wait to stay at another Ace Hotel in another city!

Got the room with the wood wall and skinny mirror that goes from the front door to the window, which is like 30 feet?  This was long skinny room, as you enter the room to the right is the long wood mirror wall and to the left is a sliding door to the bathroom.  Passing the bathroom you will find the platform bed facing the a rustic couch, desk, wall-mounted flat screen and a medium sized window.  Above the bed there were four back lit stacks of National Geographic, artsy and useful.  The room is very impressive, but the bathroom was actually just a four star.  The shower reminded me of some new condo complex shower, it was just blah, no character.

The lobby is ultra kewl.  First you will enter the hotel and find a staircase, suspenseful.  As you arrive at the top, there will be a front desk not so special, but when you turn to your left you see this long white room with high ceilings lit by a natural light from a moon roof and a long skinny tableau surrounded by chairs.  This room is straight out of dwell mag.

They have a cafeteria!!!!!  I love it.  You can get free breakfast, Stumptown coffee, tea, yogurt, granola, waffles, fruit, cereal.  It seats like 15?  Read the paper, catch the news on the flat screen or just lounge it up.

Awesome friendly service.  Also it would have been a five, but the Ace in Portland beats this Seattle location out, it just has a few more style points.

I've stayed at the Ace at least 3 times.  It's cute, in a good location and they have stumptown coffee.  I enjoyed my last few stays, but it was kind of gross last time.

The room was really dirty- the sheets seemed clean, but the bed skirt had a variety of stains.  The wool blanket was so dusty we threw it in the corner (dust puffed out of it, gross)

The king sized bed was really uncomfortable.  Other rooms had ok mattresses, so maybe this is the one bad one.

They used to have little bottles of nice shampoo and lotion.  Now they have big pump bottles of Rudy's products bolted to the shower.  No lotion, just a body wash with an aggressive licorice smell.

But, I do love the breakfast in the morning with the waffle bar (cute!) and toast and granola.  The cleaning lady seemed annoyed with everyone eating breakfast and turned on the tv so we could watch a Dyson vacuum infomercial.  Weird.

I would avoid staying in a room facing the street.  It was super hot because of the radiator and we had to keep with windows open- we heard drunk people yelling/ talking on cell phones all night.

The people at the front desk were really nice (they always are).  I like the aesthetic, I like the spinning wall/ bathroom door.  So maybe you just need to avoid the rooms that face 1st ave?

We stayed at the Ace in Oct 2006 - our 2nd time in the Emerald City.  It's a very convenient location and we loved the low-key minimalist deco.  (A large departure from our first trip where we stayed by the water at a 4 star hotel).

We could have stayed at one of those "stuffy" 4-5 star places for about the same price, but we decided to go more "modern" this time and we did not regret it.
We chose the shared baths b/c we were there for 4 nights and that adds up!  but the bathrooms were clean and we never encountered a line - personally i would recommend flip flops, but that's just me.  The staff was super helpful and LOVED the Cyclops bar & Marinca Bakery; also that we were a 5-7 min walk from all the bars and restaurants - not to mention just a few blocks from all the other key sites in Seattle.

We also dig that there wasn't a bible in our room but other things instead... definitely made our stay fun!  :)

The breakfast was pretty decent, cereal, juice, toast, just enough to get you started and still have room to enjoy all the great food in Seattle.

I would definitely stay there again.
