I can see how this might not be the best place to stay in a heat wave (no air conditioning or fans), but I doubt Seattle has them often.

I'm always a bit skeptical about "hostel" type places, but this one was great. I didn't mind the shared bathroom situation at all - in fact, I never ONCE ran into a single other person in the hallway. It was pretty quiet inside the hotel overall.

The street can be pretty loud - lots of disturbed people yelling (there's a clinic nearby) and bar patrons from Cyclops Bar below. Definitely just ask for a room that's quiet, off the main street and you should be fine. The hotel is in the middle of Belltown - sort of a hipster haven, a little industrial feeling, with a coupla nice looking bars & restaurants.

We were right around the corner from Mars Hill Church, which we were curious to check out. To give you a feel for the neighborhood, the church had a security guard out front. So, it's not the best.

Anyway, first impressions:

-STAIRS (a lot of them) are not really the first thing you want to see upon opening the door to a hotel carrying heavy bags. What can ya do tho. I'm sure space is at a premium downtown. Not a lot of room for fancy elevators in what is essentially a hostel.

-FRONT ENTRANCE was bustling due to a bar / restaurant right on the sidewalk. Their patio nearly hides the door to the hotel, so you always feel like you're walking into the middle of a house party when coming "home" each night. It was a nice feeling actually.

-FRONT DESK at the top of the stairs was minimalist but functional. Guy at the counter looked to be a student - laid back, young, friendly and helpful enough (not as bitter and jaded as most hotel staff often become). Guidebooks and magazines were offered in the lobby at a long table just next to the desk.

-HALLWAYS were quiet, seemed fairly clean. Little icons on the walls directed you to the continental breakfast area, showers, phone, etc.

-ROOMS were just big enough for a desk, a bed, a side table and a tiny little stainless steel sink with mirror. Decor is very CB2 modern. The Andre the Giant Obey image was billboarded all over the wall where a headboard normally would have been. Bed itself was comfortable enough, and the room seemed clean. Carpet was industrial style and not offensive in any way, OCD-wise.

-BREAKFAST was basically Kirkland (Costco) yogurts, cereal and coffee. All were a nice addition to the relatively affordable stay.

-BATHROOMS were always empty, very, very basic - mostly tile and stainless steel everything. No frills. They did offer towels, washclothes and robes in the room. Shampoo / conditioner, soap in the bathrooms. Aside from a few stray hairs in the shower (gross), you mostly don't know you are sharing a bathroom.

-AMBIANCE: Music was pumped into the bathrooms. Little radio next to the bed had a place to plug in your ipod. Nice touches for us young folks.

I would definitely recommend the Ace to anyone under the age of 35 on a budget.

The Ace Hotel is conveniently located in a great area (a good walk to the Public Market, shopping area and the needle). It's a flight up to the "main reception level".

I would suggest upgrading to a deluxe if you want a more comfortable stay, but if you are budget conscious and wants to save any amount of bucks, then stick w/the standard.

The Standard Room (which my friends stayed in): is smaller, has a sink, a desk, a small lcd tv, a fan, a full size bed and a stool to sit on. It's basically a one person room if you want comfy, but if you're opting to share, if you have too much stuff, your space will decrease.

The Deluxe Room (which i lapped it up in): full bathroom, fridge, ac, medium sized lcd tv, desk w/chair, lounge couch, a mini-nook to hang clothing, queen size bed, a bed side lamp, and a rocking chair. It had exposed brick on one side of the wall and top half mirror plus wood paneling bottom on the other side. Thank goodness the room i was in was decent. It had a duo showers and was shrouded in a red see through shower curtain. If you want super privacy, I slid the door (which doubles for the potty door) to cover a bit. I can't help it if i'm a prude/modest. I fell in love with their Ralph Brand line of products. If you like, you can purchase directly w/them (they'll charge to the room) or go around the corner (even get a cut) to Ralph's to pick some up.

I love how right by the front desk, there's an area to sit and go online w/my netbook (wifi free throughout the building) or jot down items to do while visiting from their copies of travel books. For complimentary breakfast from 7:30-12pm, you have your pick of toast, yogurt, granola, apples, do-it-yourself waffles, milk, coffee, tea, and water. A tellie in the "mess hall" to keep you updated with the day's news while you munch on your breakfast.

The staff is superb. They are super friendly and helpful. Gave me a break on the room when i decided to upgrade my room while checking-in. Super! And I don't know whether to thank or lament on the excellent recommendation of Macrina. I was there EVERY day I was in Seattle. Sometimes twice. I even got a card that's almost due for a freebie (dang it, should have max used it).

Alas, all good things come to a close. After my vacation and I returned home, I was slightly disappointed in seeing my room. I expected to come home to the relaxation decor as that of the hotel. Have no fear, I will convert thee to a minimalist modern feel!!

Poor Seattle was going through a heat wave when we visited the Ace. Being from LA, I am no stranger to heat. However, a hotel should provide at the MINIMUM, a fan. It would be an understatement to say that the room felt like an oven.

We couldn't win. Sleeping with the window open let all the noise from the bar downstairs in. Sleeping with the window closed caused me to sweat in places I didn't know possible.

The kicker? The mouse that was co-habitating in our room. I would have loved that mouse if he was there delivering a fan. He just pooped little droppings and ran under the door.

Yep. That's gross. I do want to note that despite the bad experience front desk people were both very helpful. After staying in the Portland hotel, with such attention to detail and ammenities, I can't believe the Belltown location is part of the chain.

The standard room we first landed in was small. Barely enough room to swing a cat around, after depositing bags etc. The bed was also small - I think a double. What with the minimalistic approach they've taken, it was depressing - it felt like a bad mix of prison cell, nun's cell, boarding school and a residential hotel, with the little sink in the room. Thankfully, the BF was very accomodating and we were able to switch to one of the larger rooms with a kink size bed in. For me, the rooms are a little barren and white feeling, so I'm not sure I'd rush to stay here again...I like modern, but I prefer something a little more colorful and funky. I think the standard rooms are a better bet for singles - if you're a couple and can afford it, the larger rooms with en suite bathrooms are a better bet.

We stayed in several different rooms here: some of the pricier ones with private bathrooms and one of the smaller rooms right above the bar. The staff warned us that the small room would be really noisy, and whoa, they were right. Not a big deal if you're going to be staying out at the bars all night anyway, but if you want to sleep, you'd better end up in one of the rooms at the back of the building.

The staff was extremely friendly and helpful and the rooms were comfortable (despite the noise).

My favorite room was the one with the glass wall behind the bed, separating the shower from the sleeping area. Soooo coool!

Ace recently opened a location in NYC, and I've been meaning to get there, but haven't had a chance yet.  So it's very strange that my first Ace experience actually happened on the opposite coast of the country!  We were visiting friends in Portland, and we had requested a trip up to Seattle to check out the city.  Our friend booked the Ace Hotel, which was very serendipitous indeed!

The week before we left, I had called to request a change in my room from the shared bath room to one with a private bath.  The person told me I was all set, gave me the new price, and everything.  Then we got there, and they had no record of me ever calling!  That could have been very frustrating (I'm pregnant, and the idea of traipsing down the hallway to the bathroom five times during the night was NOT cool), but luckily they had a room with a private bath available, and at the same price they had told me on the phone.  Phew.

The hotel is minimalist at its best, as clean lines and refreshing art work abound.  The room was clean and the bed was comfortable.  Our friends, who were on the floor above us, said it was pretty loud at night, but we had an air conditioner in our room, and it must have drowned out all of the noise (in addition to keeping us cool as cucumbers).  I guess that's another benefit of getting a room with a private bath!

The breakfast was nice, as I enjoyed the DIY waffles.  But I just wanted some water to drink with them, and there was no water to be found.  There was orange juice and there was milk, there was tea and there was Stumptown coffee.  But there was no water.  Well, there was water in the vending machine.  But when I put my dollar bill in, the machine took it, and then claimed I gave it no money at all.  Fail.  So that was my only complaint with the breakfast, and had I not been pregnant, I would have been happy with the vast tea selection (but they were all caffeinated).

Anyways, the housekeeping staff was really friendly, as was the desk attendant.  We had a lot in common, since he was from MA originally, so it was nice to talk to him.  Overall this place gets a big thumbs up, and we'll definitely be staying at the Ace on our next trip to NYC.

I love this place! 12pm checkout and the best free continental breakfast ever. It goes from early till 11 in the morning. They have this great self-serve waffel iron with perfectly portioned cups of batter and timer. The staff is very friendly, the rooms are clean and modern. It's also in a great location really close to the piers. It also has a bar next door. There is also a complimentary dong-bag on the night stand. It kind of has a hostel feel, but for the price you can't beat it.

Got the room with the wood wall and skinny mirror that goes from the front door to the window, which is like 30 feet?  This was long skinny room, as you enter the room to the right is the long wood mirror wall and to the left is a sliding door to the bathroom.  Passing the bathroom you will find the platform bed facing the a rustic couch, desk, wall-mounted flat screen and a medium sized window.  Above the bed there were four back lit stacks of National Geographic, artsy and useful.  The room is very impressive, but the bathroom was actually just a four star.  The shower reminded me of some new condo complex shower, it was just blah, no character.

The lobby is ultra kewl.  First you will enter the hotel and find a staircase, suspenseful.  As you arrive at the top, there will be a front desk not so special, but when you turn to your left you see this long white room with high ceilings lit by a natural light from a moon roof and a long skinny tableau surrounded by chairs.  This room is straight out of dwell mag.

They have a cafeteria!!!!!  I love it.  You can get free breakfast, Stumptown coffee, tea, yogurt, granola, waffles, fruit, cereal.  It seats like 15?  Read the paper, catch the news on the flat screen or just lounge it up.

Awesome friendly service.  Also it would have been a five, but the Ace in Portland beats this Seattle location out, it just has a few more style points.

I love staying at the Ace.  I come to Seattle on business and the Ace is clean, convenient and close to anywhere I need to go for meetings.  It's in a fairly bustling and hip neighborhood with the upside being that if you don't have time to sign in to Yelp and see what's good, there are plenty of restaurants in the vicinity that have fantastic food, high end ambiance and decent prices - everything from Sushi to Mexican to fusion.  Just walk in the door, grab a seat, and you should be fine.

As far as the rooms and hotel itself go, I find the staff friendly and helpful whenever I have had questions.  Breakfast is yummy
(Stemptown coffee!!!!) with waffles, yogurt and granola.   My rooms have always been comfortable and the communal bathrooms are so clean that I've never felt the heebie jeebies about having to share them.

I would love to give the Ace 5 stars but as at least one reviewer already pointed out, some of the rooms are right on 1st Avenue and if you come on a weeknight and are not bone tired, or, are a sensitive sleeper you will be up all night.  The traffic and bar crowd are pretty loud.  In the past my rooms haven't had this problem.

If you are prepared to love this place and don't want to be disappointed then I would bring some .$25 earplugs, maybe a face mask and leave it at that.

I don't know why, but after reading all the reviews and seeing the pictures of this Hotel i was a little skeptical about staying here. Maybe it was because i was intimidated by the hip factor of this place and thought i would look frumpy and out of place in a sea of cool 20 to 30 somethings. Whatever the reasons, my irrational fears were shattered when i arrived at this hotel a few weeks back for my stay.

I was greeted by an adorable man with a bronx-esq accent? He was so sweet and informed me he had put me in the corner room overlooking the street. I walked into the room and was amazed with the size and decor. It was so beautiful i whipped out my camera and starting snapping photos straight away. The giant door/mirror/wall that separated the bathroom was extremely cool. We had a huge king sized bed and all the amenities one would hope for in a hotel. The dinning commons and the overall community feel of the hotel was so different than i am used to, being from the standoffish city of los angeles, and i found it to be a real nice change of pace.

I loved this place and I really want to stay at their other locations specifically the Portland one. I highly highly recommend the Ace hotel.

oh its also in a great location and you are literally steps away from public transit and a few more steps away from pike market and shopping and great restaurants and the whole bit.

go here.

definintely not the best ACE out there.
not clean. our room didnt even have towels in it?
large skylight in the room positioned slightly over the bed makes it so you wake up the minute the sun rises.
doesnt make sense.
LOVE the ACE hotels in Palm Springs, Portland and even NY...but would recommend passing on this one.

I loved this place.

Started out a little rough, but the amazing staff accommodated our needs without hesitation. We were placed in a room in the front (above the bar) which made it impossible to sleep before 2:00am. It was a Monday, but apparently they usually aren't too loud on weekdays. The staff called the bartender, who decided to drag his drunk ass up the long flight of stairs, which turned into a heated argument between the two. Wow, what an awkward 2 minutes. Staff acknowledged this, called our room, and upgraded it for the night (in the quiet back).

Rooms:
Our first room (standard) was a nice cozy size (before the loud music started playing. Story above). Second room (the upgraded one) was huge! The meager heater wasn't able to warm the entire room. It had a nice big bathroom and a stylish brick wall. Our third room (we couldn't afford to stay in the upgraded room the entire time), was super small, we were barely able to fit all of our things in it (as we were here for a week), but it was directly across from the bathroom. The shifting around was a bit of a pain, but we were fine with it, especially since they gladly listened to our needs (we felt like big time naggy jerks). The standard room was the best deal, super clean and a nice size, and it's only $90/night. A sink is accompanied with all room.

Staff:
Amazing. They are all very friendly and helpful with great recommendations (although Yelp was our primary source). They provided champagne on New Years Eve (in a can? nice!).

Bathrooms:
I only saw a bathroom occupied once or twice the entire time we were there. Sparkly clean with body soap/shampoo/conditioner provided in the showers. I wouldn't worry about wearing sandals in here, as the shower floor appeared twice as clean as mine at home. I think there were 5 bathrooms combined (4 with showers and 1 without).

Continental Breakfast (in the common space):
Milk, Soy Milk, coffee (decaf and regular), and tea (a plethora of fancy ones) and Orange juice are provided. Food included waffles (make your own in the waffle maker - crispy and fresh), yogurt, granola, toast (freshly toast your bread in the toaster).

Common Space:
Open day and night. Coffee and tea is provided. Vending machines, ice, microwave, and washing machine/dryers are available. Tables and chairs are placed throughout.  Flat screen TV and and a bowl of apples are supplied. There's a fridge, but it's locked. The staff will place left overs in it upon request.

Location:
Downtown, Pike's Place Market, Seattle Center (with the rock and roll museum, science fiction museum, etc.), ferry (to Bainbridge Island, British Columbia, etc.), bars, food, galleries, boutiques, and everything else you can imagine is all in walking distance. The bus system is amazing in Seattle (the free zone is about a block away). Taxi's are always extremely easy to catch in the area. Belltown isn't the best place to walk around by yourself at night (coming from San Francisco, this place seems like Beverly Hills), but it's not terrible. I'd at least pair up, though.

Price:
Can't beat it for $90/night (I think $160 for your own bathroom). You're not going to get room service and a fireplace, but for the authentic Seattle experience in a clean and aesthetically pleasing environment, the price is unbeatable.

Overall:
Stay here. This place is awesome. Not good for kids, but if you want a nice relaxing spot to stay with your honey, this is the place. Don't forget to check out the condoms and the mini Karma Sutra book provided. If you plan on hitting the sack early, you might want to request a spot towards the back of the hotel, although the street view from the front is rather entertaining.

I thought this would be a lot better than it really was. Love the decor and the lovely staff. Stayed in deluxe room with it's own bathroom. For the money we should have stayed somewhere else.... really really loud!! The deluxe room has A/C, a window unit that woke me up every time it went on and off. I have never met a louder A/C unit- seriously needs an upgrade.
The large bathroom in the room has the smallest sink know to man and the every time you wash your face you water your feet as well. Also, the water faucet in the shower would not stay on hot- every time you let go it would immediately fall back to freezing. I did not enjoy paying $225 a night! gasp! to take a really cold shower and be awake all night from a noisy A/C unit but even worse was when you turned it off as the outside noise was unbearable....
And lastly the neighborhood is quite dodgy... I won't be staying here again.

The Ace is fantastic! Personally, it's a 5 star, but I recognize a few things that might be a downside to others.  Now, allow me to address the concerns first of all, and why I think they're no big deal.

1.) It's up stairs.  1 flight of wide, clean, clear and easily climbed hardwood stairs.  If you pack like you're moving in then you'll have to carry all your crap up once and down once.  Get over it.  If, however, you use wheels to get around then you'll likely be out of luck.  We had carry-on luggage and had no problems.

2.) Street noise.  If you are not accustomed to the sound of traffic then you will have a rough time sleeping here without ear plugs.  The building is old, with large windows, and is located downtown.  That's why you want to stay here, right?  Get some ear plugs or learn to love the sounds of being in a city.

3.) Shared toilets.  In the central area of this building you will find a whole bunch of single-seater private, locking restrooms, most with showers.  Each is sparkling clean, and if you happen to find one that isn't you can just step into the one next to it.  Rarely are they in use.  Lovely music is piped in and all necessary showering products are free in dispensers in the shower stalls.  You may wish to wear flip flops if you packed them, although I didn't and I was fine. A bathrobe is provided, but will not cover very tall or chubby/fat people well enough.  Just walk down the hall in your jammies, you'll be fine.  I never even crossed paths with anyone while I was there!

4. Parking is a few blocks away.  Hey, listen up.  You're in an amazing city with great public transportation.  Ditch your car and explore a little!

We stayed at The Ace for my 30th birthday in early December and had a great time.  There is a reason that this hotel has condoms in every room with mini Kama Sutra books available at the front desk: it's sexy.  Clean lines, sparse yet functional design, lots of white space, and big windows out over the city streets make this a great place sleep, explore and shag.

It's an easy walk from many of the best sites in Seattle, with cabs and busses right nearby.  Stop for great bakery across the street, or walk up to the Pike Marketplace.  Jazz clubs are 2 blocks away.  Babeland (to supplement your sexy stay) is a short cab ride, or a strenuous uphill hike, and very worth the effort.

Actually heard myself say to the person at the front desk, "All hotels should be this hotel."  It's like I dorked right out, right there in the communal hallway.

But it's true - everything said here is spot on.  Too bad it is so noisy, especially with the rooms facing the street (we were in 104), yet I so enjoyed rocking in an Eames chair, hanging out the window, waiting for my man to come home and tell me we're moving to Panama.

Ideal for a weekend get away, not so much if you have to get up early for a job interview downtown.  We got in last minute after talking to the W, who wanted $395 for the night.

Don't upgrade for an en suite bath - not worth it. The communal showers are clean and always available.

My favorite part was the bent stainless steel shelves. Scathingly, functionally formed...perfect.

Didn't enjoy my stay here. Horrible amount of street noise, no A/C and had to deal with the unexpected heat Seattle. I felt like the place was trying to skate by on it's Urban Outfitters-type decor  and skimped on the rest.

I later found out that very few hotels of Seattle have A/C, and I should have realized that having a bar underneath our room would make for a nasty racket, so I cannot lay all the blame on the Ace Hotel. I should have done more research and found out that it wasn't the place for me. Although, unlike other folks I didn't find the staff all that accommodating or helpful.

My 100th review and done on my birthday at that!

When reserving my room online I'd made mention that I was staying there as part of my b'day celebration.  The hotel staff paid attention to that little note and boy was I happy to walk into room 111 with a bucket full of beer and a birthday card.  A perfect way to stay my festivities.

Since I was staying midweek there wasn't any problem with noise that previous reviewers have had issues.  The room, the bathroom, and dining areas were all very clean.  I love the minimalist design aesthetic of the place.  Both of the front desk agents I spoke with were very nice and personable.

The proximity to some of my favorite haunts (Shorty's, Lava, Mcleod's) was why I chose Ace.  I will stay there again for the ambiance, the staff, and the relaxing environment nestled in the buzz of Belltown.

Located right in the heart of Belltown... Showcased pure simplicity.
Room 117 is the best room in the hotel: Has windows on two walls which provides a great view point for people watching and eaves-dropping on the drunkards at the bar below. =)

The room is peacefully simple.  Stark white walls, door, windows, closet, bed, sink, tiny tv, simple wall decor, the end.  Where in the hell is the bathroom?

The community bathrooms are located down the hall.  Incredibly clean, strong, sturdy toilets, lots of counter space and outlets, with high ceilings.  PERFECTO!

The first night, we were FAREEZING!  (Seattle in January... YOU do the math.) We slept in our coats, bracing ourselves as we slept.  The second day, we found a tiny heater under a table. EUREKA!

My only gripe is for the hotel parking.  It's about 3 blocks away.. just doesn't make any sense.

FOR ME....The BEST part of the hotel were the room keys.  They didn't offer you one of those electronic swiper thingys.. It was good a old fashioned brass key with our room number on it. SIGH! How refreshing!  ADDITIONALLY, they lock the front door at midnight; so if you're out partying till the wee hours in the morning, they give you a key for the front door as well.

PROS:
simple
different
ridiculously clean
old fashioned with a modern, edgy twist
great views
walking distance from bars and nightlife

CONS:
inconspicuous heater

It is what it says it is on their website "simple, stylish, and not too expensive."  It's located above a restaurant/bar so you do hear some noise at night depending on where your room is.  The first night was spent near the communal bathrooms in a small, white wall room that had a small flat pannel tv, a very uncomfy bed, a simple white desk, a sink/mirror, and nightstand with a kama sutra book and a condom sticking out of it. How funny is that.

The next night, I was able to move to a room that had a view of the street.  Ofcourse, it was above the bar so it did get noisy at night but I wasn't getting in till late night anyways.  Those rooms are a little bigger but again, the noise. I thought I would have a problem with the communal bathrooms since I had never stayed at a hotel where i had to SHARE a bathroom but it wasn't as big of an issue.  The bathrooms were always clean and there was always one available when I needed to use it.

They lock the doors after a certain time during the nights but that's probably for the better considering that there's a bar downstairs.  All you need is your key to get in.  Also, I don't remember seeing an elevator so you have to drag your suitcase up the stairs to get to the front desk/rooms.  It's a very minimal but hip place to stay if you're on a budget.  I'd stay there again.  By the way, the kama sutra/condom combination are in every room. I had to ask.

I stayed at the Ace Hotel during a business conference. This boutique  hotel has a very non-descript entrance, but overall I found it to be very clean and the staff very helpful. This isn't a business hotel, but it does have reliable, free wifi and an on-site ATM. The hotel is just a few blocks from the Bell Harbor conference center.

The Ace decor is minimalist mixed with some quirky northwest wood elements. Reading material in my room included both the Bible and a Kama Sutra pillow book. It seems that each room is a little different in terms of decor and layout. My room reminded me a bit of a dorm room outfitted from IKEA,  but it was functional. Maid service is by request and a light breakfast was available.

The negative for me was a large staircase to the lobby which is daunting when you're hauling luggage.

Let's Talk About How The Ace Hotel Was Full Of Awesome.

I needed a hotel that didn't cost me a bizzilion dollars because I had to convince my boyfriend to please please please let's go to Seattle and have awesome times in the Pacific Northwest. So, off I go with my research hat on and find out I can stay at the Ace Hotel for $99 -- so I'm stoked right, and it doesn't sound so bad having to share a bathroom because the space looks hip & cool. So, we arrive in Seattle, check into the Ace Hotel and find out a couple of other cool things that I didn't know.

One.) They Offer a Complimentary Breakfast --toast, granola, jams, butter, coffee, etc.
Two.) There are a Bunch of Free Local Magazines in the Lobby which Rock, so that's helpful when you're killing time or trying figure out where you want to go for the evening!
Three.) The Showers were never busy and there are quite a few to share, so no worries about that.
Four.) The desk personal were great to talk to, played great music & were helpful pretty much all the time.
Five.) Andre Has a Posse, at the Ace Hotel.
Six.) Condoms & A Kama Sutra -- Classy.

Love the eames chairs, minimalist appeal, and the fact that Belltown was such an awesome abeit loud place to me (you may want to make good use of the earplugs they provide you!) Wonderful stay -- be sure to hit up the Macrina Bakery across the street for the best bread I've ever, ever tasted.

I love, love, love Ace Hotel. As a web designer, this hotel is a dream come true. Everything is white, in right angles, and has modified round edges. So Swiss. So clean. Ah so much white space.

The exposed brick walls are painted white, the nightstand is a frosted plastic light cube, the chair in the room is an Eames-inspired rocking chair with Eiffel legs, and every room has different art work on the walls. Downstairs in the kitchen there is coffee and tea 24/7, a white vending machine, and laundry and dryer!

As a New Yorker visiting Seattle for the first time to meet her boyfriend who she hasn't seen in 12 days (read: dry spell), we stayed up quite late. The next day the housekeeper thoughtfully left 2 condoms in the room. The following day the housekeeper knocked on the door. Holding up a pair of hot pink, leopard print thong underwear, she asked me, "Is this yours? I found it in a bunch of towels and thought maybe you lost it?" Isn't that just SO thoughtful? (The pair of thongs did not belong to me).

The boys in the front desk and the one gal I chatted with are superb. They and the hotel are definitely the only crew that has style in an otherwise pretty cheesy part of town with a dragging night scene which I compare to a deserted meat-packing district but without the transvestites and pigeons. Thus, boring.

BTW, the rates at the Ace are really good too.

We stayed at the Ace in Oct 2006 - our 2nd time in the Emerald City.  It's a very convenient location and we loved the low-key minimalist deco.  (A large departure from our first trip where we stayed by the water at a 4 star hotel).

We could have stayed at one of those "stuffy" 4-5 star places for about the same price, but we decided to go more "modern" this time and we did not regret it.
We chose the shared baths b/c we were there for 4 nights and that adds up!  but the bathrooms were clean and we never encountered a line - personally i would recommend flip flops, but that's just me.  The staff was super helpful and LOVED the Cyclops bar & Marinca Bakery; also that we were a 5-7 min walk from all the bars and restaurants - not to mention just a few blocks from all the other key sites in Seattle.

We also dig that there wasn't a bible in our room but other things instead... definitely made our stay fun!  :)

The breakfast was pretty decent, cereal, juice, toast, just enough to get you started and still have room to enjoy all the great food in Seattle.

I would definitely stay there again.

My ex-Seattle buddy (by that, formerly Seattle, still a buddy) recommended this place on a trip to the Northwest. The price is right, location close to everything you need, and the staff very cool. In short, a Seattle boutique hotel worth staying at. Ultra-minimalist decor that won't make you claw your eyes out-- in fact, it's nicely done. Amiee at the front desk is a great guide to the surrounding environs and fellas, let's face it, is quite easy on the eyes. Everyone who works here is really friendly and helpful. I'll be back!

We booked a room with the shared bathroom and it was truly an AMAZING experience.  I really didn't know what to expect.. I kept thinking.. 6th grade camp where you wait in line.. and wait.. and wait for an opening.  Not the case here.. didn't have to wait at all for a bathroom.  Had no problems at the ACE.. checking in/out was a breeze, the rooms were nice and clean.  OBEY posters everywhere.  We stayed in the 2nd floor corner room (Rm 117 i think) right above the Cyclops bar.. it could get kinda loud but we didn't have any problems sleeping.  The only beef I have is that parking for the hotel is about a good 3-4 blocks away and in the freezing cold it could seem like 20 blocks (minus 1 star).

The hotel is located in Belltown which is a hip area in Seattle that has lots of bars and restaurants so you don't have to go far for nightlife.

Clean, conveniently located and a great breakfast are just some of the highlights of this former hostel turned "hip B&B"

I chose this place for the design and decor and especialy the price.
At under 100 a night, I was able to double my stay in the Emerald City.

You do have a choice between shared baths and private (which double the cost) but at 5 baths to 20 or so rooms there was never a queue.

Make sure you hit up the breakfast treats in the "Ace Space" before heading out on your urban adventures.

We stayed in a room with a private bath, since we weren't picking up the tab ourselves.  The last time we stayed here 8 years ago, we stayed in a room with the shared bath.  It doesn't look like much had changed at the Ace.  They offer a complimentary breakfast (toast, Costco yogurt- careful, my husband got sick from his) and granola) and tea and coffee available at any hour in the kitchen.  Belltown is fun, but LOUD esp. at 2 am when the bars close.  Our room faced an alley and had a sliver view of the Sound, but still it was noisy on the weekend.  The location can't be beat (great restaurants, yummy Macrina, and a short distance to the fab Sculpture Park).

update:  I forgot to mention the awesome scroll hanging in the lobby.  Great references to pinoy nurses.

Brilliant. Its a euro-hostel style place to sleep and keep your stuff while you check out the fantastic city they call Seattle.
The locaiton is great, the rooms are interesting, clean and simple and the rates are cheap!
Don't expect a turndown service, concierge help or fluffy robes. Its fairly minimalist, but you are provided with the basics that keep you comfy. The kitchen downstairs offers a great tea and coffee selection and a pretty good continental breakfast.
You have a choice of a room with a private bath or using the shared bath in the front of the hotel. I was skeptical at signing up for this, but was pleasantly surprised to find that there were about six HUGE bathrooms to share. I never waited in line! All single and private with tons of counter space and amenaties.

Congratulations are in order to Ace Hotel for their new deal in Manhattan! Now I can drop Habitat like an old sweater and move right into 29th Street!

New York is going to love Rudy's too. Wall streeters with buzz cuts are going to be the rage in 2008.

I mainly stayed here cause it was the cheapest hotel I could find close to downtown at the time. I wonder how much prices went up since then, since it seems people on here didn't like the price. It is pretty dorm/hostel-ish. The rooms are very tastefully modern but not comfortable. It is like staying in an extra bedroom at a yupster friend's house, and I do like the not-a-hotel feel (seriously, you'd think nice hotels would catch on). I enjoyed my stay, but I would opt for something more luxurious the next time around.

Stayed here on my very first trip to Seattle and it was perfect!! Although the rooms were a bit plain (I know they were going for the minimalistic approach), the location could not be beat. It is located within walking distance to everything:
Space Needle- about three blocks away
Pike's Market- about two blocks away
Downtown- about two blocks away

Each room has a either Shepard Fairey or Kaws artwork and very contemporary furniture. They also offer complimentary breakfast.

hint: you can choose between having a room with a bathroom or for a little less, you can have a communal bathroom shared among 5 other rooms

Stayed at the Ace recently on business and introduced a Japanese and Chinese client to the hotel style of share bath, a bit awkward for them at first.

We all had great reviews. Quaint envionrs, great location and price was right. The shared bathroom/shower was very convenient.

Love the fresh coffee available in room and the continental breakfast.

The front desk staff were great in give parking and local food tips.

Look forward to staying on my next vacation visit to Seattle.

I stayed here when I was fresh off the plane with no job or place to live - hehe.  And unfortunately my plane was delayed and I got in quite late, and was greeted with a little 8.5x11 sign on the door about a number to call.  It was not an altogether pleasant welcome to Seattle, but it all worked out.  someone came out to meet me, and helped me lugg my suitcases up the steep steps to the dark but well decorated lobby.  And I settled into my room which was minimalist and a little funky.  It was a really fun place to stay - a little cooler than most of what you'll find at this price range, but the trade off is the shared bathroom.  Though the bathrooms aren't shared in the dormitory sense, they're just clustered in the center of the hotel so you have a private bath and a locking door when you're getting ready.

Think of the Ace Hotel as more of an experience rather than a destination hotel.  It's in a great neighborhood, it is very clean and modern, it's a lot like my dorm room in college.
Also, the prices are very affordable about 1/3  less then anything like the W or Hotel Monaco (I disagree with the prices the other reviewer was talking about).
If you are planning on being out and about in the city this is a great place to stay, but if you are into laying low in the hotel room all day you this is not the place for you (small rooms, shared bathrooms, tiny tv's).
I've stayed here are few times and the service has always been great and they have the best continental breakfast I've ever had.

I wanted to like this place. We stayed for three nights and I was excited to book the room since the style of the hotel was far more up our alley than a floral B&B or a Motel 6. We were happy with the first impressions. Our room was decent sized and bright on a corner with two windows (it's one pictured on their website) and with a Shepard Fairey wall. The beds are full sized which made sleeping comfortably a little difficult, but there wasn't much sleep happening in that room. The room was above a bar, with a loading/delivery zone on one corner and a bus stop on the other. The noise was staggering and continued all through the night and into the morning. Also the glowing light from the hall showing through the window above the door was annoying and I never saw it turned off. The next day we requested to move (and in fairness the staff we dealt with were very nice and accommodating) but we were unable to move until the following night because the hotel was full. On a plus side, the shared bathrooms were never an issue finding one free, and the breakfast did include coffee, tea, fresh waffles, toast, granola, juice, yogurt and apples. There are also piles of good magazines available for guests, and robes in the rooms to use. The second night I slept slightly better because I used earplugs (which I do not find an acceptable solution). The third night we were moved to a smaller interior room which was considerably quieter (we downed out the music we could still hear with the fan) and it was across the hall from the bathrooms. This room, without any decor, definitely felt like a "nice" dorm room. However we did sleep better. All in all I would recommend this hotel if you are traveling alone or with friends and do not plan on doing much sleeping, or perhaps you have loud roommates who come home drunk and play loud music all the time. The location is good for walking to attractions like the space needle and the market, and we did find a few good restaurants nearby. I just don't know if I would stay here again.

I stayed here while in town on a business conference trip.  This is a cute little hotel you would never notice from the street.  The staff is very friendly, laid back and helpful.  The hotel is clean, modern and hip.

If I was in town visiting for vacation, I would love to stay at this hotel.  However, for a business trip it lacks a few things I've come accustomed to over the last few years.  These are all small things that makes the business traveler a little more comfortable.  For example, my room did not have any closet or dresser.  There were some hooks with hangers on behind the door, but I had to leave most of my business clothes folded in my suitcase until I was ready to take them out to be ironed.  Your room does not come with an iron, but if you ask for one at the front desk they do have them.  The same goes for hair dryers.  I had trouble with not having anywhere to put my stuff in general.  There are just not a lot of surfaces in the room.  Note, if you want your own bathroom, you need to get a delux room.  The standard rooms share hallway bathrooms and showers like dorms in college.  In my bathroom I had a prison type sink, a tiny little shower and a toilet without a lid.  I'm not real picky; I can deal with all of these things.  Except there was no where to set anything down except on the floor.  No shelves, no counter top, no nothing.  I ended up putting all of my stuff on the floor.  When they describe this hotel as having european flare, they are correct.  I stayed in a hotel in Germany with almost the exact same bathroom, but this one was much cleaner.  I'm not sure if other rooms have this problem; everthing I plugged into the wall outlets fell out!  Everything- the hair dryer, the iron, my phone charger, my laptop charger, my blackberry charger.  Nothing would stay plugged in.  Maybe they had the wrong outlets installed?

The steps in the entrace of the Ace are beautiful to look at, but when you have been traveling all day and have to drag a giant suitcase up them at midnight, you will not think they are so great.  This hotel in general has a lot of steps, and the more I think about it, I don't think it's wheel chair accessible.  If you have a problem with stairs, you may want to call ahead and check.

Wow, so my review sounds like a ton of complaining.  Why do I give the Ace 4 stars?  Well, honestly it's so cute, quaint and clean that each day I was there I became more fond of it.  It was a perfect atmosphere for my first time in Seattle.  The location is also great- many nice restaurants and shopping are close by.

I love your optimism. As I dilly dally down the wall-mirrored passage I catch a glimpse of my right profile - a personal preference. You're ticked. Then the book to my bed-stand, you're a believer standing in the sole support of my statistical need for sex. A copy of the karma sutra and three condoms nestled neatly between pages thirty two and three. The teenager in me screams out to whip all three on and watch a little evening news; adulthood declines. As a point of digression I should take a moment to tell of these things I know, the driving force in the palm of Silicon Valley - I know these boys who get uncannily self-sufficient when working from home. I recall once insinuating that Apple was built from adderall and assholes - but to it's discredit the world of internet securities is a sorry tale of student-dressed sorts sitting on self-help forums berating an epidemic of right handed proportions. Subtle.

This is getting ridiculous.
