I keep trying to come in here and browse on my own, but have never made it. I get nailed every time with a perky can I help you? or can I help you find something? or have you been taken care of?
If I was talking to Guido "being taken care of" might sound ominous, but the perky level is so high at Ace Hardware I think Disney would be jealous.
I came in here the last time looking for window suction cups, the kind you use to hang ornaments or decorations on the window. Got helped on the 7th step into the store. This time I appreciated it because I was on line 32 of my 100 line to-do list on the 23rd of December, and was not up for much search time.
I was happily taken straight to the end display with suction cups, bought a pack of 2 and was out of the store in less than 3 minutes. -

This is exactly what Burlingame, and most other cities really need. A local hardware store with amazing customer service. I DREAD having to go to Home Depot where no one has a clue what you are talking about, finding someone to help you is next to impossible and spending hours wandering around the warehouse to look for a lightbulb, almost having to take a day off work.
ACE hardware is the exact opposite. Staff are extremely friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. This place is what a hardware store should be. It may appear to be a little more pricier that Home Depot, but well worth it. I have yet to 'not find' what I came in looking for. -

When I was young and naive I would go to the Big Box Store for my hardware needs. I would spend a lot of time driving there and finding what I needed., and nobody was ever available to help me.
Going to Ace Hardware in Burlingame is basically the opposite of that experience. It's close to where I live, and there is always somebody available to help you. They are really nice, and if you do need help, they will know exactly what tool or part you need, and walk to its location in the store with you. They always seem to have what I need, and prices are reasonable, too. Highly recommended. -

I love the ACE hardware business model. It is called customer service. Something completely unknown at Home Depot and sometimes seen at Lowes. At Ace you walk in are are usually greeted, and asked if you need help. If you are smart you will ask where the sumpty-squat handles are, and the clerk will take you directly to the place where they have small medium and large sumpty-squat handles. The clerk will also see if you need the ridiculously necessary specialty wrench, and wa-hey! Of course you do.
Service. Hmmm. What an ancient quaint concept.
I will pay the extra buck at this Ace store to feel taken care of. Every time. -

had to write this. First time in the store for me and am a die-hard home depot buyer, but here's the alternative if you need something now.
drove in, bought a bulb for my desktop lamp, and it turned out to be broken when I got home (one of those small halogen bulbs). The chap working there said bring it in and swapped it out no questions asked....that's what I call customer service. Thank you! enlightened -

Really nice people here (way different than Broadway Hardware!) and they have a well-stocked store, particularly considering the size!

Sunday afternoon amidst an upscale gardening project... I run out of soil and pots. Being it that I happen to live locally, I head out, dirt still on my hands to acquire more potting soil and possibly a new planter box. I am greeted with cheery smiles and a warm hello!
Assistance is always offered as you enter the store and an associate is not tied up helping another customer decipher where to find a product in their store or make paint finish recommendations. I am pleased to have this hardware store in my community! -

This is the best Hardware store...I lost my favorite earring down the bathroom sink...the very helpful and friendly gentleman told me how to retrieve it..which I just did..and he sold me a small strainer to fit over the hole...so it won't happen again. Now that's what I call service..so much better than any other place I've been! And it's like this every time. So glad your right in my neighborhood!

Sure Hardware stores don't have the space or as many products as a Home Depot but the customer service is excellent. This Ace is small so you pretty much have to have assistance getting anything down from the shelves. We went in for a Hedger and the employee was readily available with a ladder and helped us. The price for the hedger was also cheaper than those at Home Depot.
Considering Burlingame is a small city, Ace is convenient except there is only street parking w Meters available. -

If you value customer service, this is the place to come. The employees know where everything is and are very helpful. It's a small Ace, but they do have quite a bit of product. Each time I have found what I needed and I've been there three different times. Parking is usually easy, unless you come during Farmers Market on Sunday.

I don't know why the big hardware stores don't get it. SERVICE. When I walk into Burlingame Hardware I'm asked "Can I help you?". I've spent hours wandering about in Lowes without anyone offering to help.
I'm willing to spend a few pennies more to get in and out of a store quickly. Burlingame Hardware has a good selection of uncommon items although they didn't have a NEMA 4L 1514 female receptacle, this is such an odd item it would have been a miracle it they had it.
P.S. try Ace in Brisbane for uncommon items and a step back into the 19th century.
P.P.S. Park in the lot in back off Howard and take the secrete alley at the NE corner of the lot. -

This is the greatest - small hardware store - they have an amazing amount of things in a tiny store, nothing better than a quick 10 min trip to the hardware store. Beats the h@## out of a 90 minute trip to one of those warehouse - depot places, you actually have time and energy to fix that thing you went to get the part for ! - sometimes bigger is not better.

This is exactly what a neighborhood hardware store should be. While I find places like Home Depot useful for large projects like a do it yourself remodeling job, this place is small, friendly and stocked with hard to find items not typically found at big box stores. A couple of examples: a few weeks ago I needed a new rubber seal for my old but still very serviceable blender. I stopped by Bed Bath and Beyond in search of the part and after searching on my own for fifteen minutes in the kitchen section, I asked one of the staff if they carried such an item. The answer: no. They weren't even able to tell me where I could buy such an item, but suggested I contact the manufacturer. I stopped at this ACE store on a whim and was happy to find that they carried the part I needed.
I've also found hard to find replacement parts for my toilet and received good advice on how to install the part, as well as a light switch dimmer that would have taken me hours to find at Home Depot. ACE also carries an assortment of kitchenware: pots, pans, instruments and tools in addition to the kind of tools you might need to complete a weekend fix-it project. Downtown Burlingame isn't the obvious choice for a hardware store, but this one is extremely useful, convenient and well staffed with knowledgeable and friendly people. -

A hardware store within walking distance of my home - what a concept!
The only thing I'd wish for is that they had longer hours - open earlier on the weekends and open later during the week. -

Today, I called the Burlingame Ace Hardware store to see if they had a flatbed that was available online. They actually had a better, less expensive model in stock, so I drove over later in the day. When I was buying it, I mentioned that I'd be putting it together tonight . Immediately, the ACE Hardware man who was helping me said he could do that for me right then and there! (This was excellent, given I was getting the flatbed as a gift for my husband and knew it would take a long time for me to figure out all the instructions and get it assembled and hidden before my husband got home.) What a treat.
While I was watching the metal, tires, nuts and bolts become a flat little wagon, I mentioned that I had ordered an aluminum ladder from the ACE website and that it would probably arrive the next day at the Burlingame store. Apparently, it had already arrived and was sitting in the back of the store! I learned then that it would have been better to order through the store, not the website -- that way the store gets the credit for the sale AND it is possible they have a better product to recommend. Next time, that is what I will do. There will definitely be a next time -- what a great store and team of helpful people! Burlingame ACE Hardware, you ROCK! -

I could not agree more with the positive reviews. Ever since the old Burlingame Hardware (on Burlingame Avenue) closed down, I've hoped for a local, "good, old-fashioned" hardware store to come to my little town. This place is everything I had hoped for.
The owners of this store are not only helpful, conscientious and knowledgeable, they will order items if they don't carry them already.
Their prices are competitive with the big boxes; in fact, certain items are less expensive at BH than at OSH or Home Depot.
Also, they are friendly without being intrusive or overbearing; they have an instinctively good sense of how to treat customers. If you are looking for something specific, they respond immediately, and not just with a vague "down that aisle, I think." And if you want to browse and meander the aisles, they leave you alone -- i.e., they understand lovers of hardware stores! -

I've never been a big fan of Ace Hardware stores (lack of selection and cluttered stores), BUT I have to say that I love having this store a walking distance from home in downtown Burlingame. As others have written, for a bigger project I usually go to OSH, but for something small or--especially--when I realize I have forgotten something the Ace Hardware store has been great, at a reasonable price. They do manage to fit an amazing variety of stuff in a small space, and I've never come home empty-handed.
