Every time I enter this store, I am warmly greeted and asked if I need any help finding what I need. As a clueless person when It comes to hardware and home improvement, I truly appreciate this excellent customer service. I can probably get the same items cheaper at Lowes or Home Depot, but will have to wander around looking for what I need and I won't get my questions answered if at all.

You ever been wandering around a Home Depot or a Lowe's and wondering if anyone works there? Have you ever had a project that you had a vague idea about what you needed but just needed someone to give you that helping hand?
Let me introduce you to Ace Hardware, the helpful, friendly home improvement store.
When you walk into Ace Hardware, in less than 10 seconds someone with say "Hello," introduce themselves, and ask you what they can help you with. If you need help, they will walk you around the small, but efficiently organized store to find what you need. Oops, they don't have it? Well, let them order it for you!
My most recent venture into Ace was because my sprinkler timer died. I had bought it at the same store about a year before and now it didn't work. Well after some diagnosis by me and then by Radio Shack (that's in another review) I knew the problem was with the power cord. Initially the sales person tried to help me find a replacement cord, which they didn't have in stock, then he checked the catalog, it appears the manufacturer didn't sell the cord separately, so, he went to the shelf, pulled off the same sprinkler timer, opened the box and gave (yes, I said gave) me the power cord. After I left, wondering, once again, why I ever go to the orange or blue stores, I realized I didn't have a receipt on me, the sales person totally took my word for it that I had purchased the timer there and totally went above and beyond the call of duty.
I've had a number of experiences at Ace that has made me a loyal customer, but my favorite was a couple of years ago. My then middle-school-aged son had a science fair project he wanted to do. He had the idea but wasn't sure about all the implementation details. So I knew just the place to to go. We went to Ace Hardware. We were in the PVC pipe department and a sales person came to ask us if we needed help. I explained the situation, then my son explained his experiment plans and the ideas of what he was trying the build. The sales person helped my son refine his ideas, helped him shop for the right parts and even made some most excellent building tips. We took all our supplies home and my son put together his builds and did his experiments and the whole project was a success.
Ace manages to maintain that small town hardware store level of customer service in the middle of suburbia. Way to go Ace! -

When it comes down to home improvement stores this Ace is hands down the best. They greet you as soon as you walk in, ask you what they can help with and direct you right to it. They are always way friendly and helpful. They may not have the biggest selection and lowest price sometimes but I'll support a locally owned store with a friendly staff any day over crappy Home Depot.
Now it would be a dream to have the selection of Home Depot/Lowes with the staff of this Ace, ah well one can dream..... -

**UPDATE DEC 28, 2011: Found a 1 3/4" Forstner bit there when I couldn't find it at Home Depot or Lowes. Another point for ACE!**
I went all over town looking for a soda can crusher and they were the only people that had them! I wish I had gone there first.
