Loved the red velvet cake! Batter was moist, not dry, and frosting wasn't overly sweet.

Review from Nicole H.
I bought a slice of caramel cake and a slice of Oreo mousse cake. They weren't that good. I turn right around and go back a week later and get a slice of cheesecake, a slice of lemon cake w/whipped cream, a slice of chocolate mousse cake w/ a ganache topping. What can I say except that I need to just stay away because the last two times were not good and I'm only going to cheat on my diet so much. The chocolate cake tasted like a bottle of cheap chocolate syrup. The cheesecake was watery and too rich which seems impossible but it's true. I'm done unless it's a party cake. I've never had an issue with those.

Review from Diana G.
Decided to pick up a few cake slices so my sister to try since she is trying to find a bakery for birthday/holiday cakes in the future.
Oreo Cake Slice
Strawberry Shortcake Slice
Atomic Cake Slice
My sister husband had the oreo cake slice and he said it was ok, but he's not hard to please.
My sister tried the atomic and strawberry shortcake and did not like them. She said the atomic felt like it was made with cheap ingredients. The strawberry shortcake was dry, but the filling was ok.
I only tried the strawberry shortcake since she didn't like it. The cake is dry, but I agree the filling was good since it wasn't overly sweet.
Overall, not very good. -

The people who work here are always happy and able to answer questions. I have come both in the early morning and mid afternoon hours and the bakery is pretty well stocked and the staff are always on point.
The bakery cases are huge and not stocked to the brim, so it seems like they are kind of empty. But if you look further, you see they have plenty of each item to offer, its just that the cases are so big, its hard to pack them full.
I usually get the large coffee and doughnut combo, it's under $2 which is a steal. They do have real cream and also sugar substitute behind the counter if you ask for it, no need to use the powdered cream or "real" sugar if that's not your thing.
My FAVORITE thing about this bakery is the seating area. You can sit here with company or just by yourself and enjoy your coffee/bakery item in a clean, cute environment. No need to subject yourself to the nastiness that is DD in the mall on 31st and Halsted.
Also, they have sesame street cupcakes that are ridiculously adorable. I was SO close to buying my son one, but I decided to wait til he's a bit older b4 I give him all that sugar. (he's not even 1 yet, but loves Elmo)
Their cake slices are pretty dry, but they are really pretty. I'm not a cake eater, at all, which is why I go for a doughnut or cookie when i'm here. -

I've had cake from Ace Bakeries before and it was good. So when I wanted my caramel cake fix, I went to Ace. Located in Bridgeport, it was close enough to go on my lunch break and make it back with time to spare. While I have been impressed in the past, this time was lackluster. Cake was dry, caramel was enjoyable but too sweet. They also don't make it like real caramel; it's more like regular frosting with caramel flavor. Good, but when you have a fix you want the real thing. My cake also tasted like the refrigerator. Wonder how long my cake has been there. My friend loved her red velvet cake and had no complaints which earned it an additional star. I'll stay away from them for my caramel cake, rather have Brown Sugar Bakery for that (never had any of the problems that others have had there).

The cakes are beautiful looking, but flavor is very much lacking. I've never ordered a whole cake, but tried many of the slices and they're pretty consistently dry and flavorless. It's a shame because they look like they'd be delicious.
Maybe the made to order cakes are better.... -

This is my first time ordering a cake from Ace, I have tasted there cake long long ago when my brother's child's mother bought my mother a cake from there for mothers day it was sooo good. So for my mother 58th bday since this bakery was closer and I'm traveling on the bus I decided to order her cake here.
This bakery has a beautiful array of treats and after I placed my order for pick up the next day I purchased the strawberry cake (delish!), the atomic cake, which has a layer of yellow cake and devil's food (chocolate) cake with whipped cream, strawberry and banana filling (very tasty) the cake slices vary from 2.75-3.75 in price per slice. Also you can use credit, cash, and link or EBT benefits for payment of cake/ food items.
My mother's cake was gorgeous when I recieved it it was purple and silver with my mom's picture on the cake and the cake was very affordable. The staff was very helpful and nice and they don't make you wait long. The cake was not to sweet was a lil on the dry side to me when I eat devil's food I want it to be sinfully moist and rich and it makes me feel guilty when I eat it! but overall I will order from here again until I get my car then I might try Roeser's again. But you have to try them at least once! -

You know when you're just a little hungry and need just a little something...something. Ace is the place, nah not for nuts and bolts but for a cupcake.
This is a regular unpretentious neighborhood bakery. A well rounded selection of cakes, cookies and well that bakery stuff. A couple of round tables if you just can't wait to get your sweet on until you get home or even back to your car.
The cupcake, was darn good not anything to rave about. It was a cupcake, let's not get all gourmet about it. I brought home some cookies, those were good too.
What I really liked about it, was the way I was greeted. This was my first time in the place, and I'm sure they have their regulars. They made me feel like one of them.
We're doing a little house hunting now, and always while looking around I like to try out the local businesses to get a feel for the area. There's a possibility that I just may find myself around here a little more often.Listed in: Things South of the "0"…

Not the best bakery in the world, but not the worst either.
This morning i found myself in need of a coffee and a doughnut, thanks to some pesky cravings courtesy of "Aunt Flow".
The place is well stocked with tasty looking sweet things in very clean looking cases. I was tempted to try a piece of cake but i stuck to my original plan because if I didn't I knew I'd still want a coffee and doughnut till I got one.
I picked up two chocolate frosted cake doughnuts, two cherry turn overs, just because they looked so yummy, and a large coffee. My total was $3.68 which is a pretty good deal for four pastry items and a large coffee. I found out that one of the doughnuts came free with my coffee which is nice.
However I had to wait for my coffee. No big deal. I was a little annoyed that there was no real cream or milk to put in it, just icky carnation creamer, AND their coffee stiry-thingies are too small for a large cup. I burned my fingers.
The coffee was not the best in the neighborhood like the sign says, but it at least was hot and had caffeine. I liked my cake doughnut just fine, but it was a little to fluffy for me, I'm used to cake doughnuts that are a little more heavy. The cherry turnover was yummy, but had too much of the pastry and not enough filling IMHO.
So this is a nice stop if you need a coffee and doughnut in a pinch, but nothing to go out of your way for.
Next visit I will try some cake and update, because if the cake is as good as it looks they will earn another star.Listed in: Bridgeport yo!, Sweets!

Desperately in need of coffee and a sugary treat to start my day, I finally stopped into Ace Bakery (even though I've lived within walking distance for years). It was oddly empty around 9 AM, so my sis and I ordered some apple and pecan pastries, and a coffee. The pastries, not so good (kind-a bland). The coffee was hot, organic, and strong.
I've gotta say there's nothing really special about this place, but I haven't ventured past the breakfast goodies. -

A few years ago (yes this is way overdue) I heard that Ace Bakeries had great erotic cakes, so of course I had to check them out.
While they are more relevant for bachelor or bachelorette parties, I didn't have any coming up at the time so I got a butt cake for my friend's birthday. It was a huge hit! Her initial reaction was to grab both cheeks (picture attached).
The salvageable portion was delicious - very light with fantastic whipped cream frosting. Plus, the cake was really reasonably priced for how big it was.
I've recommend them a few times since, and I'd definitely make the trek back to Bridgeport again. Maybe I'll even try a more PG dessert next time... -

I've been buying Birthday cakes and pastries from this Bakery for yrs. They also did my wedding cake and not only was it beautiful but also Delicious every time I do a party which is quite often I always get asked where did you get the cake. I've had them designs me cakes for different themes from the Bears to Tinkerbell they are very attentive to what you want. And I've never had to wait when picking up a cake. I'm in and out and they never disappoint and it's so frickin good.
And not only are they're cakes are good but everything from the cookies to the brownies and they're fresh made bread this place is great so when your next party is coming up definitely give them a call. -

I don't know what happened over the years as this bakery used to be really good but it is not anymore. If you want fresh delicious baked goods please look elsewhere because you won't get them here.

Extremely well stocked, versatile bakery. They even have coffee and cappuccino to go. They are known for their racy bachelor/bachelorette cakes, but they make imaginative children's cakes as well.
I had a baking mishap and needed a dessert to bring to a party. I first stopped at Bridgeport Bakery, and they didn't have anything ready. Ace had a huge selection of cakes, individual desserts, and cookies.
I brought the chocolate/strawberry cake to the party and it was a huge hit. Everybody loved it.
They will now be my neighborhood bakery. -

My family has been ordering Ace Bakery cakes since before I was born, and I am really old! LOL Now that I am a mother, I order all my child's birthday and celebration cakes here because they always give me an excellent cake! I always get compliments on the cake quality and taste. You will not be disappointed in this bakerys cakes, I can promise you that. They also accept the LINK card for their cake, which comes in handy when you are trying to work on a tight budget as we all are these days. Ace is the best on the Southside of Chicago!

Review from Tony C.
this place is foul.
pastries taste like butt. cakes taste like they're straight out of betty crocker pre-mixes. sheets and sheets of dry, yellow disgusting cake topped with oversugared, neon-colored frosting is sold here for birthday parties to locals who just don't know any better. And if you know the local in this parts of Bridgeport, you'd know to never visit this establishment.
avoid at all cost. where's the negative star when you need it? -

You know how I knew I loved this place? When I was willing to travel all the way to Bridgeport just to get my fix! Excellent bakery items. You can indulge your taste buds with everything from lemon tarts, cheesecake, chocolate covered strawberries or carrot cake, and then pick up a couple giant Spongebob or smile face cookies for the kids (or, if you're like me, for yourself :) They do a lot of special orders for birthday parties and also sell those fun balloons and candles. If you just can't wait until you get home to dive into that eclair, there is a tiny area to enjoy your treats in the store.

Birthday cake was awesome, like chocolate heaven, chocolate cake (did not taste like box mix) with chocolate cream filling and white buttercream icing. Like the cakes of my childhood birthdays. Oh so very good.

This place has been my husband's and my local go-to spot when we need cakes or sweets for special occasions. Just recently my husband got an amazing chocolate, lemon, and buttercream cake made to celebrate the end of a major team event his bike team held, and everyone loved it (in fact, he's used ace for a couple other team events). Ace lives up to its name in quality, speed, and price - I would highly recommend it for anyone looking for something tasty for a special event (or just as a indulgent snack).

Consistent is what this bakery is. I always get the children's birthday cake from here and they have never let me down. If I'm in need of a small treat I will do the the yellow cake with strawberries or the best butter cookie ever.
