Three trains that'll take you to the Bay Area on weekdays:
    4:20am
    5:35am
    6:40am

$8.25 one way, $12.75 round trip (return trip can be taken a different time), various frequent-user tickets.

Helps get me to SF for work before 7am if I take the 4:20am train:
    -arrive at Pleasanton Fairgrounds 5:31am
-take connecting Wheels bus #53 to the brand spanking new West Dublin BART Station
-get on the 5:45am BART train to Embarcadero by 6:30am, then shuttle to work.

I recommend getting the 20-ride ticket which will lower your per ride cost ($5.25/ride vs. $8.25/one-way)

But if you work in SF, I highly recommend renting a place there than doing this Stockton-SF commute everyday (which comes out to be almost 3 hours each way).

If you want to catch up on sleep, bring a blanket.  They have dimly lit cars and most people are on the same page.

    =8)

Still convenient and clean, but since the new year their PA system is louder than the darned engine! Be sure to bring earplugs if you value your hearing!

I take the ACErail from Fremont to Great America, and back. 1 stop.
Trains are on-time, conductors are friendly, regular commuters are quiet and respectful, the train seats and conditions are newer and better than BART, Amtrak, or CalTrain.

Riding my bike, taking my bike on board, or using the Green Shuttle (free) that meets the train is Awesome, and I arrive at work happier than driving my car. The 20-pass ticket is reasonable, slight more than gas, but worth the savings in mental health.

If you are tired of the commute and live between Stockton and San Jose you might try the Altamont Commuter Express, the ACE train. I have been riding it on and off for a few years and it is a nice break from stop and go traffic. The route is scenic and you can read or visit on the train.

I made a little video of the ride from Great America to Pleasanton. The train goes along the bay and through tunnels as it passes by Alviso, Drawbridge, Niles and Fremont.

Service is pretty good and one of the few forms of public transit to the Bay. One of the drivers drives super slow with hazards on for no apprehend reason. I wouldn't recommend the bus servive if you have to make an appointment, but train seems to be pretty cool.
