I had a few contractors doing work on my house a few months ago. In conversation, I asked them where they went for lunch. Acapulco Mercado and Taqueria.  I had passed by the place a million times but had never been inclined to go in, as it is rough looking not only on the inside but from the outside as well.  One day I decided to get the guys lunch and bought myself some as well. Delicious food that is inexpensive.

I've had the tacos, the tortas and the chicken milanesa.  None have disappointed.

My favorite is the asada torta.  It's a sandwich served on a round grilled bun, similar consistency to cuban bread, layered with asada steak, refried beans, lettuce, tomato, avocado and jalapenos.  It almost seems like the sandwich is too big but I finish it every time because it is SOOOO good.  For $5.00 you can't go wrong!

Nestled in the back of a market on Cheshire Bridge, up the street from the non-taqueria Taqueria Del Sol, resides the only true taqueria on Cheshire that I know of... (Wow, that was a mouthful of "taquerias" in one sentence)

Walking to the back of this shacky supermarket, you see about 6 or so people watching football, the non-american kind, on the tv. It's very chill, and I feel like we've walked into something special here... and my hunch was certainly correct to some degree.

I ordered the following, and I'll tell you why this could be somewhat of a destination.

    Taco de Chorizo
    Taco de Carnitas

Upon taking my order, I saw, who I can only assume is the owner, walk behind the meat counter in the market to grab a fresh helping of chorizo into a bowl. Now that's a great thing... I don't know why it strikes me as being so awesome, since it seems like such a logical thing to do, but it's just nice to see that what you're about to eat, hasn't just been sitting around forever.

A good while later, and I'm talking about 15 minutes here or so, out come the tacos. The carnitas, my favorite, was chunky cut, but packed some solid flavor. The downfall here was the tortillas were kinda thick and a tad gummy. The meat overpowered the tortillas flavor however, but I was still a little disappointed.

The chorizo was flavorful as well, and it was great to know that it was just freshly made, hence the waiting time.

Overall, I would say that this is a great option for a quick, in a pinch, taco destination when you're not wanting to go out to Buford or other areas of town. Though at around $2.00/taco, you may be inclined to travel a little further for your other options.

I discovered this store while on the prowl for some corn husks to make tamales and was pleasantly surprised. I actually got the information from yelp and it was 1 of 3 addresses that I had printed to check out. Being closest to home, it was the first stop I came to and had no reason to go to the other 2 stores.

This store had the corn husks and a good variety of things that I didn't need at the time but know where to go to in the future when I do need them. I love and cook Mexican food a lot and am always on the lookout for Mexican specialties. For a little store, I was impressed by the variety of Mexican products, dried chilies and the small offerings of fresh produce. Being a native of East Los Angeles, the pinatas and the meat counter brought me back to the stores I frequented back home.

Prices on items were about what I expected, maybe a little lower than say, Kroger, depending on what it is.

I couldn't resist the taqueria in the back of the store and treated myself to a couple of tacos de carnitas and was glad I did. The pork was well seasoned and the tortillas were the nice, handmade style that my grandmother used to make. The splash of onion, cilantro and lime with the fresh chile brought it all together nicely. I will definitely go back to try their other taco offerings.

The people that work there were all helpful and courteous. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because the building is in need of some work. Nothing a little paint and minor repairs can't fix. All in all, this was a good find and another gem on Cheshire Bridge.

To be official the full name of this place as displayed on their signage is "Mercado Acapulco y Taqueria" .  I have bought some grocery items hear like some sauces and salsas, and also some candy/treats that were reccomended by my co-worker who grew up in Mexico City.  So I thank her for finding this place!  The main attraction for me is the Taqueria in the back.  I always get the Tacos and switch now and then between the "pollo" (chicken" and "pastor" (pork).  I'm not a red meat eater so unforntunately I can't comment on the other choices.  They will ask if you want onions and cilantro on top, and I always do.  No extra charge.  The sauces/salsas there are great.  The red hot sauce is no joke, be vary sparing, the green salsa is my favorite, and the the brownish salsa is also very good.  Sometimes if your lucky, they will have an avacado sauce!  Awesome!  The tacos come "wrapped" with two small usually lightly grilled corn tortillas.  They use "El Milagro" brand which are made fresh locally and kept refridgerated.  I have also been reccomend these, and they are very good!  It's been great going to my late lunch and catching the World Cup games as they have a HD flat screen hooked up in front of the kitchen window.  When no games are on, I catch up on my mexican soap operas! lol
Yes, the place is a little rough and and beatup looking, which may deter a lot of people, but I've been going there for 2 years now, and have never had a problem with the food, other than a head sweat from the heat of the hot sauce! Very friendly people and they all speak english better than I can speak Spanish, so no worries about them understanding you.
