We go here about once every other month for lunch and margaritas. We used to get the buffet but the choices have been changed around a lot, and have not looked appetizing. The last three times we have gone we have noticed the drop in customers, today, a Friday it was really dead . We got the Ultimate combo platter for 2, and it was pretty good, there was a lot of food for $18.99. We always get the giant margaritas and we noticed the price went up to $9.99 each. They do have the best margaritas IMO. I hope they get the lunch buffet back on track as I think that may be why they are slow. Don't mess with a good thing, We will continue to come here because we do enjoy the food , drinks and the good service we always get.

I grew up coming to this location and it was always my favorite place to go. Last time I went for a business lunch I was shocked at how much the location had changed. No air conditioning, a funny smell in the air, food was so under par and my lunch companion had a bug (yes a freaking bug) in her rice that was cooked in. How do you miss that? Oh and the manager came to the table and immediately said it came in off the lettuce. How the hell did he come up with that excuse so fast? Yeah i think he's used it before. I left feeling sick to my stomach. Went back a few months later for Happy Hour and the drinks were water and I still wasn;t ready to stomach the food.

Acapulco isn't the greatest of Mexican restaurants and it's nothing special, so i didn't have much expectations. I came here because my co-workers wanted to come here for the lunch buffet.
The only good thing about Acapulco is that it has a lunch buffet for $8.49, which consists of:
1) Birra - marinated chopped beef with onions and peppers. 3/5
2) Chicken - marinated chicken with grilled onions. 3/5
3) make-your-own taco bar - chicken and carnitas, onions, cilantro, hot sauce. 2/5
4) Mexican Potatoes - bland. 1/5
5) Rice - bland 1/5
6) corn - tastes ok, but adds more variety to the plate. 2/5
7) Menudo - pretty spicy which made it taste better. 4/5
8) Salad bar - 3 types of salads (mushroom salad, regular salad with oil and vinegrette, and I forgot what the other is). 3/5
9) Dessert - Walnut brownies (decent, but tasted old), decent cantaloupe, honeydew, and pineapple, and some sweet chips which were pretty good.
Service:
Server rarely showed up to check up on how we're doing. 2/5
Good deal on lunch buffet, but if you want better-tasting Mexican food, you should go to the taco trucks, or the hole-in-the-wall Mexican restaurants. -

This is our local Mexican Restaurant, as commercial Mexican restaurants go it OK. The food has always been good though. The nachos are great so is the guacamole. The wife always gets the shrimp and steak fajitas, I on the other hand am adventurous, I've tried the carnitas platter, which i definitely recommend. the shrimp and crab enchiladas are very good as well. I've also had the Gigante Burrito with many fillings, Asada, Carnitas, Pollo, Shredded Beef, all very good.(not all at one time though) The kids usually get the cheese pizza on top of Mexican rice and the cheese quesadilla. the salsa is a little spice but good. We always leave stuffed vowing not to eat as much the next time...
Oh, the drinks are OK if you as for the premium stuff otherwise only order during happy hour. -

So, where do I start. At the beginning, I guess. We walk in and ask for a table for our party (about a 1/2 dozen of us). The place is about half full (as I can CLEARLY see), yet the hostess advises us it will be about a 15 minute wait. Huh? Okay, fine. I can be patient.
"But wait, what about those two big booths over there and that big ass round table in the next room. They are all vacant," I ask say...
"oh," she replies..."Let me check."
What? Check? Can't you see from here that they are empty? - 1 star
Next, after our 15 minute wait we get seated, and we wait 15 minutes ( I timed it) before anyone comes by to even TAKE a drink order. On their behalf, one guy did bring us chips and salsa, but I couldn't understand a DAMN wording emanting from his oral orifice. It sure as hell wasn't Spanish. Probably some Hodgi language or something...
So, needless to say, we chow down on chips and salsa, and are parched waiting for someone to take our drink order. - 2nd star
I finally manage to flag down the hostess to find out what the hell is going on.. (mind you, I WAS courteous). "Oh, she replies... Let me check".
Wait, isn't that what you said about the empty tables?...
She finally comes back and takes our order. I realize what the problem is. The same hostess is seating people, answering the phone, packing "to-go" orders, and helping serve? Now, I understand the economy is tight, and Aca-fucking-pulco might want to pinch a penny here and there by cutting hours of employees, but come on. This was bullshit.
It took us nearly 40 minutes to get our order taken... and another 15 to get it...which nearly made us miss our movie. We ended up asking for boxes immediately after the food was placed in front of us. We then chowed down in the car on the way to the movie.
So, Acapulco, you fail. Why one star you ask? I only subtracted 2? Well, come on people...its acapulco. You really think they were getting a 5 star to start with? -

Service was pretty off today---we had to ask for our chips, which the server usually brings upon seating us! Service was so slow---by the time the food arrived, we had to pack our meal to go and bring it back to the office!
But besides the slow service, this place gets 5 stars from me today soley for their super money saving coupon mailers AND tender and juicy pork carnitas!
* Buy 1 entree, get the 2nd entree for $2.99! yaaaaayers!!! *
Today, I tried the deep fried carnitas tacos. It came w/ Mexican rice and a side of salad w/ yummy dressing. I'll definitely have to order this again.
Hands down, they have one of the best pork carnitas in the Valley! yum!2 Previous Reviews: Show all »

Dropped by to catch the second half of Monday Night Football. The crowd was awesome!
Food was good. The carnitas are always great here.
Drinks were spot-on and fairly consistent.
Service was adequate, given that the place was packed.
Parking is usually cake, but this time it was difficult. -

Short Version: Mexican that'll get you by for lunch.
Long Version: For a chain restaurant, it's not bad. They offer the standard Mexican dishes everyone knows and the drinks are fine. And for a business lunch, this place would be just fine. The service is professional and friendly. There aren't any culinary surprises to be found here, though the food is well prepared. Unlike most of Los Angeles, there's plenty of parking here, which is nice if you're going for happy hour, which is done adequately here. -

Sun Valley, CA
I love it here, me and my friend go fairly often and we never have any complaints. The servers are very friendly, and that has a lot to do with where they're from which by the way is stated on their name tags.
When you're seated you immediately get chips and salsa, the chips have just been made which adds an authenticity to the food. If you ask for guacamole they literally make it in front of you so you know it's freshly made and not something you get in bulk at smart and final. And it's sooo yummy.
The waiter never let's your drink go dry even if you have a good few drinks he brings you another cup.
The service is very friendly and I always count on having a good time here though it is a chain restaurant I love it, I really do. -

Margarita MONDAYS!
Acapulco is a decent Americanized Mexican restaurant. I had their new Tilapia dish for the second time last night, and it's really good!
Check the SUNDAY PAPER for their weekly coupon where you can buy one entree and get the second for only $2.99....what a bargain!
THURSDAYS is all you can eat two item combo for $8.99. For someone with a big appetite, this would definitely do the trick!
Coconut-Pineapple Margarita was ok, they were not shy with their Gold Tequila which is always nice.....
Thanks & ENJOY! -

Not bad, a small step down from El Torito. Easily the best of a bad selection of places to eat in Sun Valley.
Tip: watch for coupons in the mail - i.e. buy one entree get the second for $4.
Also $2 margarita's on a Monday! -

Pacoima, CA
Lunch buffet was around $9. It was great
They had:
2 soups ( menudo, chicken soup), handmade corn tortillas for tacos, sweet corn cakes, enchiladas, rice & beans, salad bar, and dessert which consist of "banuleos" and macaroons.
Everything was tasty and I would definitely go back. My favorite is the handmade corn torillas. I made myself a chicken taco and it was delicious. I also love the sweet corn cakes. -

it was better when i was a kid growing up...before it was a large chain..and when everything from the dishes to the decor and the service was TRADITIONAL Mexican style
for a chain, it aint bad...a little pricey though
their deep fried ice cream is their best bet...that hasnt changed since i was a little girl ;) -

The food is really good, but one of the managers is a B-Hole. He got pissed because I used a few coupons. I used my bday free flan, free guacamole for signing up online, and buy one entree for reg price and get one for $2.99. I think I saved myself $30. hahahah F- Him

We had a buffet meal and it was ok. Service was great. Not the best room for our size party and the price we paid. The facility could use a renovation. Crappy area but it is the San Fernando valley so it is to be expected.

I arrived early last Sunday to get a table for 6. The hostess who was very pleasant told me it will be a bit which was fine. While waiting after a bit a gentleman asked if I was ready and I said yes my party arrived. He takes us to a table which is for 4 and told us to sit. I asked him if we can have a normal table for 6 and he laughed and said take it or leave it. He was so rude. He spoke as if he was a king and we were some peasants. Maybe because we weren't hispanic. He seemed very angry and little racist. The hostess was shocked towards his attitude and apologized and immediately sat us to a great table. Come to find out the man was the main manager. I'm a restaurant owner not a manager and I have never treated a customer with the disrespect this man showed us. I've been to many acapulco restaurants but the sun valley one was the worst experience ever with management. The hostess was great and the waiter was very friendly the main manager should have never been up front. We did also enjoy our food and drinks. Someone should really do something about management or maybe give the man a class in respect. There was more to the story such as my friends face reactions and wanting to flip the table over but we are all mature people and use other methods such as yelp and letter to corporate.

Wow.. I can't believe this restaurant is in the sh*t-whole area known as Sun Valley. And I can say that, 'cuz I live here. :o) Anywho, the restaurant is surprisingly pleasant for a chain. It was Saturday night when I visited (becuase I had a buy one entree, get one for 2.99 coupon deal thingy from the local mailer), and the place was pretty full. There were a lot of waiters, and ours, an older Hispanic gentleman, was quite good and very nice. The atmosphere was nice, food was good, and with the coupon it came out to be about $23 including tip. I had the seafood combo platter whose name I don't remember.. some fish soft taco, a shrimp enchilada, and something else I don't remember. It was good, but my dining partner's Muy Grande Platter was better.. Plus, if you go online to their website, you can get a free awesommme guacamole. Visit this place if you're in the area.. it's kinda cool! :o)
