I loved that place! I will never forget the people who workled there, they treated me like a VIP when I walk in, they gave me the BEST 50th birthday party I have ever had.
I thought the food and the service was the best,  they will be missed.
Westwood lost a GREAT place to eat!!

    Faux Mexican food

We came to Acapulcos to grab a quick lunch while in the area.  My friend works at UCLA and kept mentioning that they offered an $8.95 lunch buffet so we decided to check it out.  Evidently, everyone else in the area knew of the buffet, too.  The place was packed, but in hindsight, I can now see why.  The lunch buffet, coupled with their happy hour drink specials, are probably the only things keeping them in business.

The service was friendly, but it was relatively simple.  Complimentary chips and (homemade) salsa were served upon sitting down and constantly refilled throughout the meal.  We opted for the buffet.

The buffet offered seasoned chicken, carnets, green tomatillo salsa, mild tomato salsa, and cheese for the taco station that boasted fresh corn tortillas.  The tortillas were fresh, but the cheese seemed in the process of coagulating and the chicken tasted a little rubber-y.  Enchiladas looked to be a day-old, but there was fresh seasoned refried beans, a seasoned cornbread casserole (that was actually quite good), and a mixed greens and tomato salad.  Don't forget about dessert.  Cinnamon-sugar tortillas were also served.

If you're looking for an easy Mexican lunch, this is the spot for you.  The buffet is unlimited and can easily put you into a carbohydrate-induced food coma in no time.    For the two of us, our bill was $20.  Had we gone to somewhere like Chipotle, it would have been nearly the same.

Overpriced mediocre Mexican food defines this place. Got the combination plate with chile relleno, enchiladas, and tamales. The only reason I finished my plate was because I grew up with the habit of trying to never waste food, so technically I forced myself to.
Sure, margarita mondays are cheap, but you're going to need 3-4 before feeling any effects but they do taste like candy! Without margarita mondays though, such a rip off. Some people might find their endless (if you continue requesting) free salsa and chips a huge perk.
This restaurant is good to eat with many friends or those who can handle loud noises.

So-so Mexican food from a typical chain restaurant. They do have several saving graces, though...

    1) location. Right in Westwood, so a convenient lunch spot.

    2) They handle big groups well. They've got tons of experience with it (although parking sucks, as always, in Westwood).

    3) lunch buffet is cheap and the food is actually not bad.

    4) Margarita Mondays. Small magaritas, but they're cheap. Who's gonna complain?

    Greasy Mexican food.

Yeah, everyone goes there for Margarita Mondays. I don't like Margaritas in general... so that takes that out.

It's decent. The staff is usually really nice and friendly. Maybe too friendly, they can be kind of creepy. They told me that in order to get my friend a birthday dessert I'd have to dance on the table. They were joking, but they were really insistent........

Free chips and salsa is always good. Nothing special on their menu. Lots of food though. That's pretty much it.

    Come for Margarita Monday!

Other than that, their food is okay. They have a good combo option where you can mix and match dishes and plates. So you can choose between their tacos, enchiladas and such. Their food is average, though their fajitas are memorable.

Ordering to go isn't the quickest experience, but it can be done.

I recently went with with a party of about 20 people.

The staff managed to sit us all together which was excellent.  Complimentary chips and salsa for all of us which was amazing!
Food took awhile to come out, but I attribute that to the size of our party.

Once all the food was served, mine was still missing.  Turns out the waiter had accidentally crossed out my order for some reason.  He did not seem to think it was his fault.  He left and returned in literally five minutes with my order.  I do not know how it was cooked that quickly.

Anyways, I got the 3 course platter for 9.99 which included a salad, rice and beans with 3 chicken flautas and a cheese enchilada, and deep fried ice cream for dessert.  For the amount of food, the price was awesome.  The food was ok, a little on the salty side and tasted pretty generic.

This location is nice and the staff is pretty attentive for the most part.  They did not have a problem splitting the bill onto about 6 credit cards and cash which was very nice.

Margarita Monday - cheap margaritas!  It gets really crowded, so get there early if you want to get a table.  Free chips and salsa!

OK so I came here last night for Margarita Monday
    - house $2.50
    - fruit $2.75
The house margaritas are supposedly stronger (served on the rocks), & the fruit margaritas are really fruity slushies. DONT get the midori melon margarita. It's the worst thing ever, and I never could have conceived that any Midori cocktail could taste bad. It was horrific.

Oh yea, free chips & salsa all night,

HAPPY HOUR (different from MM) 4-7pm M-F
    - must sit in cantina for happy hour specials
    - $1 buck up - upgrade to legit alcohol (i.e. margarita tequila - 1800 tequila, gin & tonic - Tanqueray, cranberry vodka - Smirnoff)
    - even thought it says M-F 4-7pm, they still allowed the buckup on the margaritas last night at like 10pm.. I upgraded my margarita, and it was actually somewhat stronger and slightly smoother (but still.. not really a big difference.. but it's only $1. cheap out if you will).

The BAD: only one waiter (and it was super busy in the cantina), didnt bring out water when we asked for it, didn't come back after our whole party had arrived (in this case, you have to go to the bar to order, but then you can just pay up front and leave right after cuz you won't have a tab to pay)

My 83 year old patient loves any restaurant with a  full bar.  He's not an alcoholic but he likes a mid-day drink with his lunch.  We came here at 11:30 am and got a table ASAP as the place was practically empty.  Super friendly staff.

We both got the all you can stuff in your big fat ass buffet.  Everything was fresh including the chips and salsa.

The fun began around 12pm when the college students showed up.  There were so many hot asian dudes coming in I thought I was watching a Korean Soap Opera.   Who needed dessert when I had this eye candy to drool over.

Tacos, beans, rice were all pretty standard, dirt cheap price for the buffet.  It was all good not the best I've ever had but well worth the price.  I didn't notice the decor after the parade of tight young flesh started pouring in.

Parking around here is a biotch but luckily my patient has a handicapped placard.  I was walking as funny as my patient when we left.  Gotta love UCLA they sure know how to pick em.

*this review only covers visits from Tuesday thru Sunday because their Monday night margaritas are a game changer.

Came here last night after mass and ordered a one entree combo. Based on quality, the food does not validate the price($8)- the rice and beans were cold and the carnitas enchilada remained bland despite the tapatio I rained on my dish. To be fair, I didn't have soaring high expectations, and in the past I've only stopped in for margarita Mondays (3.5).

My girlfriend however, enjoyed her dish. (the enchilada suiza - $11+)

...I was paying for both of us and only had enough to order a one entree combo which, she added, was not very good.

    Lovely

I came here once for their lunch buffet and it was pretty decent $8.95.
My waiter let me do a survey on my smartphone and score I got $5 off !! less than $5 tab!

Came here also for the happy hour once while I was waiting for the bf to get off from work. Free enchiladas during happy hour!!

Decent place I'd say in the area.

Well. Most UCLA students have a beloved feeling towards this restaurant. The cheap ass margaritas on Monday nights, the huge floor plan to mingle and commiserate with one another. Not me. The ONLY reason I have made myself go here more than once is because it's very popular for social gatherings. I ordered a skinny margarita (which was 4 dollars more than the normal margarita for less sugar) and it tasted like shit. Like pure and total shit. I had to add sugar packets to it to make it touch my esophagus.

The food is very lackluster and overpriced. Perfect combination for Westwood. I've had the fish tacos here, and it was like fried dough. I was so disappointed in this place, especially after the attention it gets from UCLA students.

If you go to Acapulco-go to get lit and eat the chips instead of buying the food.

This restaurant probably would get better reviews in any other college area. They have a nice bar with weekly margarita specials (their margaritas as among the best I've had). The food is very good but not quite great. I've gotten the feeling they have tried to appeal to as many as people; while satisfying most, not quite wowing anyone. Bring a large group of friends and no one will leave unhappy.

I feel like I only write about the restaurants I like, which is why most of my entries have 5 stars. So I decided to write one for a MEH place.  Don't want to waste too much time on it, so lets just go right into it:

    Pros:
    - thinking......thinking......

    MEH:
    - Food. Was OK.

    Cons:
    - SERVICE:  10 mins waiting at the door to be seated (it was not busy). 5 mins waiting to be greeted by our server once we sat down.  Asked for water 5 times, which finally came towards the end of our meal.  The only time the server moved fast was to bring us our check and collect $.
    - Pina Colada - was not good and too ice-y.  Couldn't even taste the alcohol.
    - I got a burrito and a pina colada and my portion was $25. DEFINITELY NOT WORTH THE PRICE.

I won't be back.  Not to this location anyway.

We've ate here twice now - on Margarita Mondays so I guess my review may not be doing the place justice. BUT the best part were the Margaritas. They weren't strong drinks by any means - but they were cheap and therefore WONDERFUL after an awful Monday.

I ate the bean tacos both times - unimpressed. My wonderful company had the chicken tacos (if I remember correctly) and he was not impressed either (that I remember)

We're thinking of coming to check it out once again, just to mix things up while still not straying too far from my friends place. Although we haven't felt like coming back yet mostly bc the ambiance could be improved to be honest. It's a bit "eh"

If we come back I'll probably try the spinach enchiladas so hopefully those are not too bad and I can update with something nicer!!!

Okay, I've yet to make it margarita mondays, but their regular happy hour specials are pretty great also. Got a margarita the size of my head for $8 and half off appetizers. The margs weren't "kick you in the face" full of tequila, but I was feeling pretty good after 2. Unlimited chips and salsa too.

Also had super friendly service from a guy named Paco.

It's nothing that would qualify as "fine dining" but if you need an after work margarita buzz or a way to kills a few hours before taking the flyaway bus to the airport, this place is easy on the wallet.

Came here for Margarita Monday once. Was not impressed, better yet, not even content. More like depressing.

I understand that a margarita for $2.50 is a great deal. Well, considering the fact that it came out in a small plastic water cup, I mean, I might as well have made it myself. It wasn't even blended nicely like a margarita should be, it was just a bunch of ice chunks. Very unsatisfying.

Then the food, OH THE FOOD! $1 street tacos. It is $1, but I would rather pay a couple dollars more for an actually enjoyable street taco. The steak taco was bearable, but the chicken taco was something I don't want to try ever again. I felt like I was eating at a school cafeteria for adults. The guacamole and chips were the best part of that meal. The music was also bumping like everyone was deaf and everything about this Margarita Monday was painful.

I've heard their AYCE combos are great though, maybe I just tried all the wrong things. I want to give this place another chance, but I don't know if I can stomach the idea of another chicken taco.

At Acapulco, you can count on the chips and salsa always being fresh.

I'm not sure why it has so many bad reviews. The staff is very friendly, the food is good and the price is reasonable.

Pros: Comfortable seating, nice ambiance, friendly staff, good food, reasonable prices.

Cons: When they get really busy it's hard to get your waiter/waitress to address any needs you may have.

ACUPULCO, PREPARE TO TAKE MY WRATH! I am so glad I am unemployed and I have the time to write the nice scathing review I knew I must write after my first and last visit to this cursed restaurant chain. Well, to this cursed restaurant. The jury's out on the rest of the chain as I am really a fan of cheap margaritas and would do just about anything to make that relationship work.

If you do manage to get service, be prepared for your waiter's dirty arsenal of tricks. I will now identify said tricks.
    1. The Two Dollar Taco Swindle.
Now watch out for this one; it's tricky. There is no actual agreed upon time frame that Margarita Monday begins or ends or in which length of time you can get $2 tacos and whether that is part of the happy hour which is separate from Margarita Monday and also begins and ends in confusion. Instead, the waiters, hostess, and management conspire to screw with your brain when you are most hungry so you are tricked into being somewhat drunk, anticipating a salty, delicious $2 accompaniment to your margarita that has mysteriously risen 4 dollars just as you arrived, and will go back down to 2 only when you leave, overcome with hunger. When you return with the sole intention of having one damned $2 taco, the taco you planned your night around, another waiter will most unpleasantly inform you that no such second $2 taco happy hour exists.

    2. The "No one ordered this raspberry margarita?" coup.
In this spectacular performance, your waiter will approach with a platter of margaritas which he will proceed to hand out with a pitiable expression of stress on his dear old face. He will be left with a margarita in the one flavor you did not try yet that night with a look of utter confusion. You will kindly offer to take the drink in a moment of weakness. The kind looking waiter will smile gratefully, but inwardly he will cackle gleefully that you fell into his trap.

    3. The Flan Fake
This one is fairly straightforward: you pull the waiter aside to tell him it is your friend's birthday, and he jokes in a grandfatherly way that he will sing happy birthday, as long as you dance. You begin to realize it is not a grandfatherly thing to say, but you roll with it because you've had 4+1 margaritas at this point and you'd really like to get that pity margarita free. Bingo bango, he and his cronies come out to sing happy birthday with an innocent looking little jello mold of flan holding the birthday candle. Remembering your deal, you try to do some kind of inconspicuous looking dance, your friend blows out the candle, you all cheer, and you help your friend eat his flan, perhaps more than he would like. And this is where the trick comes in. Though you may have merely asked for a Happy Birthday song, apparently in Acupulcoian that means flan, which means you will be charged for flan on your bill. Alternatively, Acupulco charges you to dance.

    3. The group bill gratuity
Be careful... accept too many extra margaritas, have a birthday and all the sudden you're saddled with an added group gratuity to your bill. Luckily, in my case I had wandered off to the bar with a deserted basket of chips from another table to mop up what left of the free salsa and left my much more competent friends to deal with division by a number greater than 1. They argued their way out of the flan charge which coincidentally put them just over the cutoff, and we managed to escape rattled, but unscathed.

I eat at chain restaurants too! Sometimes even bad Mexican ones. Other times, even stereotypically bad ones just so that I can appease and accompany a group of hungry, thirsty and frustrated/relieved graduate students.

After our fist quarter finals most of the people in my program walked on over to the Acapulco's near campus and few of *us* crawled out. Food and drinks were damn good and the quality more than sufficed.

Today, we finished the last final of our second quarter and once again, remained with the Acapulco's tradition. At noon. We had the $8.50 buffet which included a ton of food. Beans, rice, chicken fajitas, tamales (with no lard - we asked), beef, chicken and carnitas (these were the best carnitas I've ever tasted and I've tasted many) tacos, chile verde, red and green salsa, salad and fruit bar and even a bunch of desserts.

    It was good!

I ate way too much and drank way too little. But I had to drive, so responsibility got the best of me. It was all good. We talked about all the places and things we'd try to do during our one week spring break, defense mechanisms, female genital circumcision, our attachment to our own clitorises (clitori?) and a bunch of other things that made us laugh, cry and want to kill some of our clients.

    That was great.

And as a special treat, we met and took pictures with Magic Johnson! That's right! He was at the bar right next to the buffet and we all crowded him and each gave him our individual spiel about how great we thought he was. I know nothing about basketball, but I do know a lot about South Central, it's history and his investment in the community. So I shared that with him along with thanking him for his efforts. He high fived me with his huge, huge hand.

    Today was a good day.

(too bad I'm still up late finishing one more paper)

I've got a case of the Mondays and the only thing that can help me is Acapulco.

Acapulco Margarita Mondays - the best way to start your week.

Go early to grab a table before the UCLA mob hits. Order a margarita, get a huge platter of appetizers for half off (yay for happy hour prices!) - then chill there for the next couple of hours. Watch "the game", mingle with friends, get drunk...

...Honestly, is there any better way to start the week?

Among the many bite size pieces of information that you can learn about the town of Acapulco from Wikipedia, perhaps this is the statement that sheds the most light onto the choice of this restaurant's name:

"In recent years, within the younger crowd, Acapulco has made up some ground on Cancun as a popular spring break destination."

If you are a member of this 'younger crowd,' that is, if you don't mind food that's less than stellar if the drinks are cheap, then Acapulco could be right up your alley.  The Margarita Monday special is the only time I have been to this establishment, and the deal is pretty good (although watch out! they charge an extra $0.25 more than advertised for any of the flavored margaritas).  You will probably love this restaurant if you are:

    a) A full fledged member of the greek system,
    b) An alcoholic in training (see a)),
    c) A lover of average Mexican food.

Outside the realm of Margarita Mondays I can't really picture myself coming here.  But if you've got a case of the Mondays, this place might have what it takes to cure what ails you.  And if not, you can always go to Diddy Riese afterwards.

First of all, I would like to say that there are pretty good margaritas that are reasonably priced.  On Mondays, they are especially cheap, but in my opinion, they aren't quite as good as other nights (probably because they are mass producing them a bit more).

Secondly, their quesadillas are really good, and you get a lot of food for a pretty decent price.  It's not the type of food that I would ever take home in a doggie bag (usually Mexican food doesn't hold up too well), but it is good...probably the best Mexican food in the UCLA area.

I have never had to wait in line at Acapulco, but that is not because it isn't busy.  There is usually a lot going on, but it does depend on what time you get there.  For Margarita Mondays, I would definitely recommend getting there early.

MONDAY MARGARITA madness! Every Monday this place gets packed during the happy hour for the 'deals'. The margaritas are pretty good, but they are $2.50 for a reason. Pop back three of these babies and you should at least feel somethin' or their jippin' you.

Our group usually gets the giant appetizer platter and a ton of margaritas. Which, is not the best food, but if you expect great food from here then your probably drunk anyways. A few reviewers call this place 'decent,' but considering it tastes better than what I can make at home... and I don't have to make it, then its pretty good in that sense.

Acapulco plays into the cheesy Mexican-American style of decoration. I mean, it could look better, but I guess they wanted to just keep it at a minimum and fun.

The service is average. Sometimes you will get a good laugh with the waiter, but they are dealing with a ton of drunks, so what do you expect.

Highlights of Acapulco include killer desserts and alcohol (Margarita Monday... ooooh yes). Downside: price. Most entrees cost around 16 bucks and though portions are large, this definitely does not justify the cost.

Food: The fajitas, tacos, burritos, and just about anything else on the menu screams deliciousness. However, the desserts really steal the show. For $5 you can get a molten chocolate cake complete with scoop of ice cream. Great for a late night snack or a wrap up for your meal. I also hear the lunch buffet is good. As for the alcohol, it's pretty damn cheap for what you get. The shots are strong and flavorful if you're looking for something in which to dissolve your sorrows (and neurons).

Service: Mario (I think), or whoever owns this restaurant (or manages it?) is SUPER NICE every time I come in. One time he let me and Vivian L. in right before closing at 11 pm. Just today he was telling me about how his balloons kept popping in the wind and jokingly accused me of helping the process with an umbrella. Hilarity. The service is fast and courteous.

Parking: Good luck finding parking here. Sometimes you can get it on the street, but you might have to fight for it. Better to park in the underground Ralph's lot between Weyburn and Le Conte though it should be done discreetly to avoid a visit from the tow truck.

Decor: This place attempts to recreate a Mexican abode. Feels kinda homey in a cheesy way I suppose.

Acapulco's has decent food, can accommadate large parties but i have one major recurring problem with this venue: they cannot ever get the bill correct!

Granted, both times i went I went with a party of 20 and 40,  Always had problems with the bill--charges for items we didnt receive (perhaps ordered but didnt receive) and charges for misc drinks.. whats going on!? both times i had to get my bill ammended for 50 dollar over charges. The manager usually brought them down 30 dollars and we paid it.. Annoying. I mean i know its a large party but they should be able to handle it--duh, use seperate bills or something?

Anyway i think  there food is a bit overpriced for being standard mexican food, but okay for groups.

This review is strictly for margarita mondays at Acapulco, and not for the rest of the week.

I've heard that Acapulco gets really crowded at night for margarita mondays, but my roommates and I go around the afternoon when it's relatively empty. Also, in the afternoon, not only are the house margaritas $2.50 and the blended margaritas $2.75, but they have happy hour deals on food too between 4-7 (but only in the cantina). Also, during happy hour all tacos are only $1 (though not as good as tacos at don antonios).

Overall, if you were to come to Acapulco I would suggest coming on Mondays between 4-7 so you can load up on margaritas and one dollar tacos, and leave buzzed and full for $10!

    Margarita Monday's.

I'll keep this short and sweet, I was able to get a round of tequila shots and margaritas for 16 bucks...and there were three of us.

Not too sure about the food, but if your a bruin and looking for a place to start the night, this is it.
