Absolutely delicious... A little piece of "The Boot" in South Texas
Only place to eat crawfish in SA (besides Pappadeaux's), awesome Boudin, alligator and all the desserts are fresh and homemade...
and the server/bartender Robert is a gentlemen and a scholar , best service I've ever received -

San Antonio, TX
So my friend and I watched a movie at the Alamo Drafthouse in the same area and afterwards we were thinking about where to go for dinner. We saw Acadiana, didn't know too much about it (I thought it was some sort of European restaurant...haha!) and decided to drive closer to see. Well, turns out it's CAJUN! So we agreed to have dinner here!
The ambiance and environment are definitely interesting, in a good way, and I liked it!
Our waiter was Jeremy, a very passionate and interesting guy. (more on that later).
I, being a Vegetarian, usually have limited options wherever I go and I was happy they had "The Country Platter"...which includes your choice of 4 vegetable side dishes and either corn bread, a biscuit, or hush puppies. I ended up ordering corn on the cob, mashed potatoes (because apparently the rice had "no flavor"), fried okra, and cole slaw. I was also going to order the corn bread, but the server insisted that hush puppies would be the best option!
So my friend had made up her mind to order Cajun Boudin, which came with red beans and rice. She also wanted to get the peach cobbler...with the meal...on which our server kept making sure that's what she wanted. lol. anyhow, he also asked her if she wanted to have it before dinner...on which she agreed.
Then he came with our orders...mine was correct...except he missed the hush puppies to which he remarked "they are on their way" and brought my friend her cajun boudin.
A few minutes later he came back and said that "he forgot about the peach cobbler" and just brought out one to her 'on the house' - which was awesome!
We were almost done, he asked me if I wanted dessert...which I didn't...but he was passionate about saying how the mud pie and bread pudding were awesome!
Oh then he realized he owed me my side...so he brought out corn bread and a bottle of honey (I'm totally confused at this point, because I thought it was some rendition of bread pudding...haha) and he said that he knew he owed me corn bread (keep in mind he insisted I get hush puppies and forgot that.) and said I had to try it with honey.
Still confused, I went to open the bottle and water just splashed on the table. It was like water broke and there was an emergency. lol! So I told him and he apologized, bringing out a 'catering container' with honey and two sealed honey packets.
The cornbread, and most of the sides I had were great! The cobbler was heavenly!
My friend didn't like the cajun boudin, remarking it lacked cayenne and that kick you expect...when she told this to our server, he said he didn't like it either and that he would have told us, but he didn't want to ruin the mood. He was honest, so point granted.
The reason this place doesn't get 5 stars is because of the inaccuracies...but the service compensated. :-)
I would definitely return. :D -

Things you should know about Acadiana Cafe:
From all the times I've dined here, service has always been friendly.
A lot of the food served here is fried and unhealthy, which means tasty and delicious.
I recommend the onion rings, the fried alligator strips (tastes like chicken I swear), the crawfish etoufee, which is surprisingly good considering that I don't even like crawfish, cornbread which has a slight tinge of sweetness, the biscuits are like the ones served at Popeye's but bigger and the bread pudding. Their bread pudding is good and is served warm however it's not nearly as good as the kind of bread pudding I make. :)
I also like the selection of hot sauce. You get a bottle of red and green Louisiana Gold hot sauce. Both of them are so hot and spicy they make Tabasco taste like ketchup in comparison.
I wouldn't recommend their gumbo, jambalaya or their mud pie. -

Dear Acadiana Cafe
I took you for granted when I lived in San Antonio. Now that I no longer live there, I long for yesterday. I wish I could order some of your delicious fried pickles and follow it up with some of your gumbo or étouffée or catfish or crawfish.
Great food and great prices!! Can't wait to get back to SA so I can visit! -
Review from Marisa P.
Acadiana reminds me of the type of food that you can eat when driving toward the TX/LA border, it's Cajun food with a Texas twist. I could easily drink a gallon of the sweet tea they brew up, and the gumbo has a perfect kick. The eating area is really large, so good for big family groups and kids. During the holidays they fry up turkeys that you can pick up and take home. My favorite part of the meal here are the sides: red beans and rice, fried okra, corn, mashed potatoes, hush puppies etc. You could make a meal just out of the sides. Staff is always friendly, and I'm pretty sure they offer military and senior discounts.

I had no idea what I was in for when picked up a late lunch here. The portions are large and every bit that of the catfish was good. In fact, it was like someone had meticulously dredged every piece of fish to have an even coating of spices, and each piece was individually fried as not to ruin the coat. I'm looking forward to another visit to check out the rest of the menu!

Everything I had was decent, though my Jambalaya was rather salty and the sausage that came on it was really nothing special. Not the best Long Island Iced Tea I've had, not the worst. I would come back and try something else. I had been in before I remember getting wings before; I don't know if they still serve them I wasn't looking to try them again. The price is average and the atmosphere is just what you'd expect with decent service. Large portions.

Get a deep fried turkey for the holidays!! They offer a whole set with an 18 pound turkey, dressing & gravy, green beans, all the fixins for a very decent price. Oh my LORD their turkey and dressing is so gooood! Like slap your mama good lol. Even my country woods, Creole sister-in-law(but gorgeous lol) best Cajun cook ( along with her sister)- my family's nickname is 'The UN' ) I've ever witnessed from Louisiana was impressed!
This past Christmas my boyfriend & I hosted at our house and decided to get the turkey from Acadiana along with a nice assortment of sides which included dressing and gravy. Well, my Dad was just raving on and on about the dressing and I think in his food euphoria he temporarily lost his mind because he said 'oh my God, this is the best dressing I've ever had'...right in front of my mom lol. She tried to play it down and act like she wasn't offended buuut, to this day she will occasionally bring up "the best dressing my Dad has ever had" lol.
Near family catastrophes aside, I would definitely recommend their turkey and dressing for the holidays. I know they serve it throughout the year as well, but only on certain days (I usually just call and ask!).
Side note-deep fried doesn't mean coated & battered as in the traditional way, with say chicken. The turkey has been flavor injected with liquid creole seasonings ( and sometimes whole garlic cloves) and then the whole turkey is cooked in peanut oil at a very high temperature.
I wanted to mention this because my boyfriend who is not from the States had no idea what it meant and thought it sounded disgusting, until he ate it lol. -

Four stars for Acadiana Cafe! This place would have gotten five stars for the food and service, but the cashier ruined it for them!
Food: 4.75 Stars
Service: 5+ Stars
Nasty Rude Cashier: 1 Star! (see below)
I'm here for dinner tonight with some colleagues from work in San Antonio, TX. We were craving some Cajun and Crole food, and the hand-dandy Yelp site gave us this recommendation! Glad it did! The restaurant is a good 10-15 miles outside of downtown San Antonio (i.e., $50+ taxi ride), but well worth it!
Robert was our waiter, and Robert ROCKED THE HOUSE!!!! Thanks for giving us such great attention and customer service! He was very polite and he hustled the floor! GREAT SERVICE!
Appetizer #1: Fried Chicken Livers, with sides of Jumbalaya and Crawfish Etouffee. The dish came with hushpuppies and white sauce. This was a pretty good dish! The chicken livers were really tender, and heavily battered (a bit too much). The Jambalaya was DEEEELISH - Grade A-. The Crawfish Etouffee was DEEEELISH - Grade A! The chicken livers were good. Grade B.
Appetizers #2: Deep Fried Dill Pickles. This came highly rated, so we decided to try it. It was slices of dill pickles, battered and deep fried. Neat concept and probably enjoyed by the people of the South. I'm not used to this kind of food. It was a nice one-try kinda food, but not something that I would order again. The pickle slices came pretty tough after it was deep fried. Grade: C.
Dinner: For my dinner, I had the 1 pound of boiled Cajun shrimp. YUM! It was just like the crawfish boil, but made with shrimp. Served with one half potatoe and two small pieces of corn. Topped with sprinkled cayan / Cajun seasoned salt. DEEEEElish!!!! Grade: A-!
My two colleagues had the Gumbo (Grade A!) and the fried shrimp (Grade B+).
Margaritas are also pretty good here! They come either shaken over ice or blended. YUM!
**Here's the spoiler**
While paying my bill for the table, I handed the cashier my credit card and bill. She quickly rang me up and was pretty short and rude. I wanted to buy a shirt as a souvenier and asked her what the shirts looked like on the back of the shirt. She rudely said, "It's just a logo on the front pocket". No explaination, no offer to show me the shirt. She turned around and walked away. Wow - you just lost a sale....
Then, after the same cashier rang me up and handed me my bill to sign, she **RUDELY** said, "Looks like you had a margarita tonight and we didn't charge you for it!" [Note: I'm Asian and get red when I drink. She noticed I was red from the drink then threw an attitude about trying to get away without paying for drinks]. I informed her that we asked the waiter to split the bill, taking out all alcohol drinks. I responded with "Don't worry, I paid for it and I'm not stealing from you". NASTY cashier. She needs to find a new job. It's pathetic how one person at the front of the restaurant can ruin a dining experience, when there are many many people working on the floor and in the back to give good customer service. -

Great catfish but very disappointed in the service. We arrived at 6:45 but didn't get our meal until after 7:45. Had to go find the hostess to get water 10 minutes after she had promised to get some for us. There appeared to be plenty of staff there...not sure why such poor service. They could have made it a 5--too bad.

Review from Adam B.
Before I started venturing out to other Cajun restaurants, I used to like Acadiana. Now that my 'Nawlins taste buds have developed further, I have to say that this place is just so-so.
The catfish leaves a lot to be desired in the flavor department. Their red beans and rice just don't rock my world like they used to.
What I do still like about Acadiana are the alligator bites and their cornbread/biscuits. Those are solid choices and will always be a winner in my book. If you are in the 410/Marbach area and in the mood for Cajun, then Acadiana is the go-to place. If you are feeling adventurous or willing to go the extra mile for delicious 'Nawlins style food, then do yourself a favor and go to The Big Easy cafe or Bourbon Street's restaurant locations.
Acadiana does serve and sell the best hot sauce. Lousiana Gold is the perfect condiment for any Cajun dish. -

San Antonio, TX
In summary: A decent southwest San Antonio Cajun-Creole restaurant at very affordable prices.
I lived in New Orleans for a year and half earlier last decade and I loved the food but I haven't had too much Cajun or Creole since then.
Anyway, I was in the mood for Cajun last night and Acadiana hit the spot, though it's hardly exceptional in any sense. The atmosphere is kind of grim: a large dining hall setting. And the service was pretty indifferent (not much Louisiana hospitality there!). But the food was decent and cheap.
I had a Cajun Sampler - which included tapas-sized portions of Red Beans and Rice, Jambalaya, Gumbo, and Crawfish Etoufee.
The etouffee was surprisingly good...the gumbo and red beans and rice were middling...I didn't care much for the jambalaya.
It was served with a large slice of mediocre cornbread (note to owners: I'd happily pay extra for butter in lieu of whipped margarine - just vile).
It's a bit of hike from where I'm staying downtown so I probably won't be headed there anytime soon but it's a serviceable, if unexceptional Cajun place for those in the mood. -

What a great idea for lunch! I stopped in here today for a bite to eat with a couple other Yelpers and what an excellent first experience!
First I have to apologize: I was late for lunch. But in my defense...okay I was late to lunch. Sorry.
To their credit though, Acadiana Cafe has an easy-to-read menu that offers simple descriptions of the foods.
The ambience is interesting: the entire restaurant is one large dining room. Or dining hall. Hmm, come to think of it, they did have fireplaces at either end of the building. Whatever you call the place, it's large and has plenty of seating.
The food was great! A bit spicy, but not the typical burn-your-mouth-off kind we're used to here in South Texas. It was a hearty Cajun burn, nothing a little sweet tea couldn't wash down.
The portions were good, not overwhelming, and the value seemed about right. You could basically have anything on the menu for under $10 per person for lunch.
As far as good ol' Louisiana cookin' goes, this is the best I've had in San Antonio. Despite the less than ideal drive from my office, it's pretty easy to get to Acadiana Cafe, and I plan on gettin' there more often. -

How I love Cajun food. This place hits the spot if you're ever in a craving.
They've got a huge seating capacity, so I've never had to wait to be seated. Definately get an order of their deep-fried pickles. And of course, can't go wrong with their catfish, and beans or dirty rice. And your choice of cornbread or biscuit. I personally would get the cornbread.
So if you ever have that Cajun craving, and can't bear to wait for Pappadeaux nor pay for their prices, this is it. -
Review from Daryl T.
There are not that many places that I can go to if I am ever craving Creole/Cajun food. This is one of the few Cajun restaurants in San Antonio [the only other one I can think of is Pappadeaux's].
The food is good considering its location is in San Antonio. Both my gf and I ordered their "country favorites" which is decently priced as well. -

Deep fried turkey with all the fixin's for Thanksgiving = awesome! We've also been there for dinner on several occasions and I've never been disappointed! Fresh food, great wait staff, wonderful ambiance and a very clean restaurant. Love it!

Absolutely my favorite restaurant in San Antonio! The have by far the best Cajun in town, but it is truly unhealthy. They have alligator nuggets (so good!), fried pickles, some amazing hushpuppies, and my favorite, jambalaya! I also like the fact that this is a locally-owned restaurant. My only complaint, however, is that the service here isn't always great...but don't worry because the food is ALWAYS great!

Fort Worth, TX
I was doing a gig with the Air Force in 2003 and Pappadeux had a 2-hours wait, so as I was unwinding from my anger at fighting an hour of San Antonio traffic around the loop to Pappadeaux (and be turned away), I saw Acadiana's off the road in my way home to my hotel.
The first thing I order at a new Cajun place is blackened catfish and crawfish ettoufe. The catfish was OK, but not very warm. The Ettouffe Roux was only a medium brown and had not had the flour taste cooked out of it. Very little character or spice. Blech. -

First visit for lunch today, it is really good but not quite a 4 star, but they have 2 sample plates and this is a really good idea and it was very good. I will go back, has a very big menu and the service was excellent. If you are needing a cajun/or'leans fix go here. Bread pudding was very good, and what they call Peach Cobbler if more like a Peach Cake but was very good.

Husband and I went because we were told how good it was. Neither of us were really happy and we won't be going back. He got a Shrimp PoBoy that he said was not as good as what he could get at Popeyes. I got the Chicken and Dumplings. They were a clear broth base instead of creamy like I am used to. And our waiter seemed to be having a rotten day. Not sure why cause they were not really that busy as far as customers go.

Great Cajun style eatery. The jambalaya is packed full of flavor and accompanied with a giant sausage. The chicken fried steak is really tasty as well. Don't forget to leave room for sweet peach cobbler ala mode or the traditional bread pudding. Yum! They have decent prices, a spacious atmosphere, and great customer service!

We had been meaning to try Acadiana Cafe for some time, but the stars never aligned. The food was simple and tasty. My in-laws enjoyed the cajun sampler with Etouffe, red beans and rice, gumbo, and jamalaya. I had grilled catfish with crayfish etouffe. The hush puppies were delish. Tried the fried pickles on a whim and thought they were unique and tasty. I would go again and try something different. Good value for the food, and anyone with a military ID gets 25% off their meal on Monday night. They also promptly brought out my daughter's food with out even being asked to bring it early.

Love it. One of the best places in San Antonio to get Cajun food. One of the few in San Antonio. The restaurant is an unassuming building in the middle of a parking lot and the inside is cute, with a Southern kind of charm. The food is absolutely outstanding. I have never had anything I didn't like. I highly recommend the seafood gumbo and the catfish, but really everything is good. They do offer catering and great prices if you buy certain menu items in bulk. Prices are definitely reasonable.

if you're looking for a place to eat crawfish, this is it! amazing crawfish! beware though because they're only seasonal. we also tried the catfish dish. delicious! when we went there, it was ~$4.75/lb for crawfish if you buy 5 lbs. ~5.25/lb if you buy one. the waitress was very nice. we were there on memorial day, and the restaurant wasn't crowded at all. but if it was, i imagine that the huge building can still be able to accommodate.
i also recommed their frozen magaritas. yummie! -

San Antonio, TX
Great place for a date, if you want to do something different. It's not high class or fancy but fun and out of the box. There is a full bar and plenty of room, so you almost never have a wait unless its packed, but you'll never wait more than 10 mins. Food is great, if you've never had cajun before this is a good place to experiment.

Some of the best (not to mention hottest) gumbo 'round these here parts! That's all I pretty much come here for though. I keep telling myself I'm gonna order something different each time and yeah... well... you see how that goes cause the only thing I have to mention is the gumbo.

The food was tasty, but I was disappointed in the portion size. I had the Cajun Sampler Platter. Everything was good, but it had cooled off by the time it reached the table. To be fair, I'll try it again for a dinner, to see if portions and temperature are better.

I've been going to Acadiana for the past 10-12 years. For almost every meal, I've had the chicken n dumplings. Why? Because they're the best I've EVER had! I'm sure the other menu items are good too, but when I go, I'm ordering my chicken n dumplings! They've got great space for groups, as we used to have military luncheons there, yet, the tables are spaced so you're not elbow to elbow with other patrons. The wait staff have always been friendly and helpful. I love this place....might have to go back this weekend!

This place was had a good atmosphere and the safe was great. Our food was out quickly for a group of 10+. I had the popcorn shrimp, red beans and rice, and black eyed peas with a biscuit. All for about $7 plus my drink. Not bad. The food is nothing out of the ordinary but I enjoyed it. Try out the catfish - I hear it's really good.

Note: food was not considered in writing this review since the only thing I ordered was a glass of diet coke. I needed an easy to find spot to meet up with a friend and, though I'd never been there, Acadiana Cafe with its highly visible green awning (and easily accessible location) seemed like a great candidate. I'm glad I picked it. The ample parking, fun and laid back atmosphere, and happy employees really made it an enjoyable experience. Our fellow patrons seemed to really enjoy their meals so we'll definitely come back... and this time for some food!!

We came in from California, but my family is very familiar with Louisiana food and some are from Texas. We were in for my brother's Air Force graduation and decided to go there to eat. We didn't hear anything about it, it just happened to be there when we were hungry and looking for a place to eat.
The place is super cute inside and our server was awesome. He knew everything on the menu and was very patient and kind to us. We were a group of 8, but he took the time to explain every question we all had.
I ended up getting too much food by accident but the good thing was, we all got to sample a lot of choices on the menu. I ordered red beans and rice which were tasty and boiled shrimp and potatoes which were amazing. 1/2 lb of shrimp and potatoes were less then $6 too!
I sampled their gumbo and jambalaya which were good but I lean more towards the gumbo as my favorite. My mom got steak which she liked but my step dad wasn't thrilled about. The catfish was good but nothing outstanding. The best thing was that boiled shrimp!
The server took care of us very well and for that alone I would go back -
Review from Kelly A.
Boo! My work colleague and I ate lunch here today. I so wanted to love this place--the atmosphere is unique, the servers and staff are friendly, and the menu is solid with a great selection of homestyle and Cajun offerings. People seem to love it, as evidenced by the big crowds in the hopping dining room and the buzz here on dear Yelp. Having recently been to New Orleans, the menu was familiar to me and brought back great memories of our recent family vacation. I ordered the Cajun Sampler Plate and a piece of cornbread since I had a hard time choosing from all of the great-sounding options. My lunch consisted of 4 little bowls: red beans & rice, crawfish etoufee, gumbo, and jambalaya. The red beans & rice was REALLY good--well seasoned and tasty, with a hint of Tabasco spice. The crawfish etoufee was so-so--a little too thick, a little too orange, a little too bland, and not quite warm enough for me (warm meaning heat). The gumbo was similar to the etoufee, but not as orange. And the big loser of the meal was the jambalaya, which had a really good flavor (tasty sausage, nice spice) but was down-right COLD. My friend enjoyed her daily special, the shrimp etoufee. Maybe I'll give Acadiana the benefit of the doubt on this meal--they had several huge tables of military folks who were there for an event; maybe they were stretched a little too thin? Unfortunately, I don't think I'll return to give it another try.
