Review from Mr. N.
Chelsea, MA
We went to Bar Harbor in late October and were convinced it was too late in the season to go kayaking, luckily we ran into the awesome dude that runs this tour about to give another couple the tour. He was very helpful in setting up our tour the following day and gave us great advice about what to bring and how to dress.
We met the next day at 10am and set out with another two kayakers down the chain of islands. The leader was fantastic with his advice on kayaking (in Boston they just give you the kayak and set you loose). Not only was the 4 hour tour wonderful, it was perfectly paced, full of beautiful sights and just all around excellent.
This is THE kayak tour to take in Acadia/Bar Harbor and insanely good deal for the money.
Final thought: I casually said to him before we started, "I thought it was insane to try to go kayaking this late in the year," he responded, "it's never insane to go kayaking!"
He was right. Definitely the highlight of the trip.Comment from B. L. of Acadia Park Kayak Tours 5/12/2012

Ouch. Ouch. Ouch.
That's the sound of my arm hurting as I type, two days after I sea-kayaked for 2.5 hours. But WHAT FUN!
I can't believe no one on Yelp has reviewed this yet. Acadia Park Kayak tours is run by Brescian L., who also was our kind, shy, cute and funny guide through Saturday evening. We were a group of 5 and found out about Brescian's sea-kayaking tour through some web research. By the way, neat website, Brescian.
The great things about this tour:
* As a matter of safety and and keeping the group personal, he only takes 6 people kayaking at a time
* Brescian is really knowledgable about the little islands and the flora/fauna around the area
* He is pretty witty. We paddled in the same Kayak and I had a good time chatting with him.
We kayaked through some mild waters, spotted a bald eagle's nest, got the download on some really cool trivia on the islands and birds. We stopped for half an hour at one of the islands and watched the sun go down. Sooooo pretty.
The only constructive feedback I have, is that our guide was a little reserved. But ask him lots of questions, and you'll find that he has loads to share!!
I'm a fan.Comment from B. L. of Acadia Park Kayak Tours 5/16/2012

We wanted to do a kayak trip on Monday morning at 9 AM. Brescian was happy to accommodate our schedule and did a remarkable job. He was full of great information, tailored the trip to our desires, showed us plenty of wildlife and showed us a great time. We really enjoyed the trip and would be happy to do another trip with Brescian.

To be fair, this might be a great place if you get to kayak. I reserved a spot for a weekend morning for my family. NOTE, not for only my family. That is, I asked and was told there could be up to 12 people in the group. We are a family of 4. Unfortunately, a hurrican was headed our way and our airline told us to change the tickets or risk not getting out for a few days. So, we called and emailed everyone and never got to Bar Harbor. This is the only place that charged us...like we were sitting home and too lazy to make it up there. I realize he lost business, but he had the ability to take 8 other people. AND it was a hurricane warning. The guy wanted me to be happy about it. He gave me $40 off.. Gee thanks. ANd if we don't send a check he'll charge the credit card and add a charge. So, he gets his $$ and loses a customer. I hope he learns over time. When we go Acadia, hopefully next summer, I'll look elsewhere.

History
Established in 2008
After growing up sailing and kayaking the Maine coast and then working for many summers guiding and teaching these sports I decided to open my own business in order to be able to offer services I couldn't working for others. Acadia Park Kayak Tours offers unique services. I offer the possibility of demonstrating lobster fishing on my tours. I offer night time star gazing tours. I limit my groups to six people or less making my groups the smallest in the area which is safer and affords a more personable experience. I emphasize eco-friendly business practices, teach ocean ecology to those who are interested and donate 5% of profits to ocean conservation.

I am a registered Maine Guide. Maine is one of the only states that requires a license to lead most types of sea kayak tours and the test to receive the license is rigorous.
I am a certified Wilderness (medical) first responder. This means I have 80 hours of medical training that is specifically geared towards giving care in a wilderness setting. Maine guides are only required to be certified in first aid and that is the certification most guides have.
I am a certified lifeguard. Sea kayak guides are not required to hold this certification.
I am a licensed residential and demonstrative lobster fisherman. If requested I will haul one of my traps on your tour.
I have a good working knowledge of lobstering, the ecology of the region, the geology of Mount Desert Island, Maine state history, the history of the park, and astronomy. Feel free to ask me questions. If you don't ask I probably won't say much beyond cracking a few bad jokes.
