Took an Excel 2010 class here and found it very helpful...funny and engaging instructor with a passion for the subject.  Taught many shortcuts and tricks as well as features that are often overlooked.

Silly corporate dweeby culture in corporate dweeby setting. Good for getting started hands-on in programming classes and more. Teachers are Adobe Experts and the like, kind professional, helpful. Easily accessible from bart. Financial District. Need better coffee. Snacks! Please water your office plant twice a week with full running water for 2 minutes or it's going to die. I could hear it crying for help. Loved teachers Diane and Helen. Sweet wonderful fun loving professional.

Took an Excel 2007 Introduction Class.

It was informative, but it was a little too beginner for me (live and learn, I'll be taking the advanced next month!) Our instructor was Igor.O and I was so impressed with how he handled some of the other students in my class. They were really giving him a hard time and throwing questions left and right but he managed with grace.

Minus one star because some of the computers only had Excel 2010 while others only had Excel 2007 (which is what we were supposed to be taking). I used the excel 2010 without issue, but a lot of the students who appeared to have much less computer experience then I did really struggled because their were some differences.

Looking forward to many more classes!

I took several Excel classes to refresh my skills.  I was overall happy with the classes but want to provide some tips for those who may be interested in taking classes:

    - Research the instructor, which makes a HUGE difference in the quality of the class.  I highly recommend classes with Isabel.

    - Try to take class on a day when the class size is small.

    - Get there early and grab a seat that offers your own good-quality instructional monitor.  Some monitors are shared between 2 students - not ideal, and not what was advertised.  Some of the monitors are also pretty old and have awful display, which are difficult to look at for a full day.

    - Don't expect advanced, real world applications.  One of the instructors said, "People that know how to do that (meaning a specific financial analysis that I wanted to learn) are doing it, not teaching here."

I just finished a week long intensive at AcademyX (Java Fundamentals). The primary instuctor for the course, Ruven, is a phenomenal teacher. I have never clicked with a tech class as well as I did this week. The pacing was engaging, the instruction clear, and troubleshooting helpful.

The facilities could be a bit better. I was freezing cold throughout the week - I ended up wearing my winter parka pretty much all day long. Also, the room was right by the kitchen where the coffee would sit for hours, going rancid. The smell was awful (but Im a bit smell sensitive). Finally, my computer station had intermittent connection issues. Not enough to get in the way of the projects, but a bit of a slowdown at the beginning of the day.

All in all, I highly recommend this course, although it was very expensive for an individual like moi to pay for. Between the cost of the class, and missing out on a contract for a week, I paid a lot for what I learned. Seems they could have that special discount for indivs rather than for those students being sponsored by big companies with training budgets!

I took some classes at Academy X late last year.  The facilities are nice but I think, depending on what you take and who your instructor is, the quality really varies.

I took an advanced DW class and instead of a big binder full of materials, they gave me 4 sheets of paper with info for the whole class (the exercises were sort of on the dull side as well.).  It appears that they didn't really have any written materials for an advanced class.

The instructor was also not that impressive.  She just spent time teaching us how to bookmark stuff from del.i.cious etc.  Eh, I wasn't impressed.

Their classes are not cheap so I expected more.

Great classes taught by people who've actually spent some time in the industry.  Good handy location downtown (across from the TransAmerica building) and great classroom labs of equipment.  They provide you with a binder full of course notes upon finishing the class, too, which is always nice.  I took an advanced CSS course with them, and the instructor had a great mix of both by-the-book training as well as 'what I did in real life scenarios with a client' smarts - that's always a good mix.

My only disappointment is the cost of classes, but sadly that's more to do with the state of modern education costs than these folks.  Still, if you want to be taught by people who know their stuff, this would be a place to go.

Just spent the last month taking classes at AcademyX going from intro to advanced in a number of applications in Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe. I took a total of 11 classes and I found the instructors to be consistently top-notch and the course materials thorough.

The location was ideal and is very close to the Montgomery BART station. The class rooms are comfortable and I appreciated the dual monitor approach to instruction - you followed the instructor on one monitor and then had the opportunity to learn hands-on via the second monitor. The staff was friendly and having spent so much time there, Kevin and Lisa, in particular, made me feel right at home. Also, take time to ready the witty and thoughtful postings that the security guard in the lobby puts together every morning.

I appreciate the fact that all of the training files are available for download, so that you can continue to solidify your learning after you return to your office and I especially like that you can take retake any class you took for free within six months.

One word of advice to anyone taking a class - if you think you're intermediate, do yourself a favor and start with intro; if you think you're advanced, start with intermediate. Having gone intro through advanced with all of the classes I took, I encountered quite a few people who thought  they knew more than they did and could have benefited from starting at a lower level.

I am definitely going back to my job with some great software skills under my belt.

I ended up at Academy X because they have this great Web Design class where you learn the basics of all the programs you need to build a site: HTML code, Fireworks, Dreamweaver and FLash all in one!

I was very happy with the instruction and at the end of the course I was able to not only build my own site but also get jobs building sites for other people.

The teachers were all wonderful and are willing to help with personal projects as well.

Academy X is wonderful! I am always pleased with the customer service, the classes are great and the facilities are really nice and conveniently located in the financial district. I took the 24 Eve Web Designers course and the Social Media and SEO 1 day courses. I feel that I took the most from the web designers course. I had 5 different instructors who were all very knowledgeable and extremely helpful to answer any and all questions that I had. Academy X helps you feel confident about your skills with computer programs and I hope to take more courses.

Gene from AcademyX came to the office today to teach a group of us an Intermediate Excel class.

He went at the perfect speed and I was able to understand everything he was doing and why. I learned how to do Pivot Tables & Vlookups, which I will be able to use a lot at work. I wished he would have also showed us macros, but I guess we ran out of time!

The only thing that I wished I had learned were more keyboard shortcuts. He showed us how to find a list of a bunch of them, but realistically I doubt I will take the time to read through 5 pages of keyboard shortcuts!

The instructor actually made jokes that were funny...that's pretty rare!

I took a VBA Excel course at Academy X.  It was a well thought out course that covered the basics.  The class was very small (2 people) so we got  a lot of personal attention.  The facility is professional, clean, and in a class A office building in downtown.  I would recommend Academy X for training.

The only downside was that the computers weren't set up for our course, so we ended up wasting some time.  Also, the instructor was a seasoned programmer, but didn't have a lot of hands on experience in VBA.

I attended AcademyX for an HTML class way back in 2000 when I lived in the city. The staff was incredibly nice and they actually made the class fun (I mean really - how exciting can HTML be?). They were a small outfit then ... I'm glad they survived the dot-com blowout and the recession!

AcademyX provides excellent continuing education in the field of web development.  They hire teachers with real world industry experience.  I have taken courses from Ruven Hannah, Ben Jaffe, and Raj Suchak, among others.  All were very patient and knowledgeable.  The staff is friendly and helpful, and Stephen, the owner, freely offers advice for putting your new-found knowledge to work.  They seem to really care about the students

The setup is great -- with two monitors at each workstation -- one is the display for your computer and the other shows what the teacher is doing, so you can follow along.

AcademyX can be life-changing.  It's a worthwhile investment for anyone looking for a new or improved career in web technologies.  Before coming to them I searched for online classes but didn't find anything that seemed to teach how websites are actually made, today.  Because the industry is still quite new, there is a disconnect between educational institutions and the field of web development.  AcademyX bridges that gap.  We are lucky to have them in San Francisco.

Just saw the 50% off course fees for job seekers- really wonderful.

The SEO course I took with Jason McDonald was excellent. I learned a great deal and was very pleased with it. Our class was small- 4 people- and the instructor was excellent. Well worth it.

You can bring in your lunch (there's a fridge and microwave) and a coffee machine. There's a lounge area to eat in with some magazines.
I gave it 4 stars only because the parking nearby is terrible, but that's not their fault. I think they're close to mass transit- I need to master MUNI next.

DON'T park in the very expensive garage right around the corner on Montgomery- it's $25 for the day. Argh!

I took the SEO class with Jason last month and it was great. The class was very interesting and the instructor kept my attention up the whole time. But most important is I started to adopt all these SEO techniques in my website - and it worked!. Slowly each week, my website has started climbing up google rankings and I am getting a lot more hits to my website. Thanks a lot Academy X and Jason!

I took a CSS class here and it was pretty informational and easy to follow. I came in with only a spritz of CSS experience and rarely any HTML, and I thought it was actually useful and I came out knowing a lot more. The teacher was knowledgeable and the staff there seemed pretty nice too. If you don't have a lot of time to commit to a course, I'd recommend taking their one or two day classes. The sign up was fairly easy too.

I worked as a Web Developer in the mid to late 90s, and, a couple of years ago, I wanted to return to Web Development .  I saw a Craigslist Ad for their free "Careers in Web" class and, after the class, I signed up for the Web Developer sequence (Apache, MySQL & PHP) since I needed to get up to speed with the latest technologies rather quickly.  I have taken JavaScript-Intermediate and AJAX since that class as well.

The location is easily accessible, the classroom computers are up to date (Vista and Mac upon request) and the teachers are friendly and knowledgeable.  The courses demystify technology and provide learning from a programmer's point of view, then you apply the learning to real world uses.

Since the courses are shorter than regular college coursework, you do have to bring a desire to learn and increase your skill set.  I'm really glad I took classes here and I definitely recommend AcademyX.

I took the entire series of PowerPoint (2007) classes at AcademyX.  The class set up if first class - everyone has a computer, and everyone can see the instructor's computer as well.  Classes were small and friendly.  The instructors were very practical, "hands on," and really knew their stuff.  After three days of PowerPoint, I went from novice to expert.  Loved it.

The training was wonderful! Our instructor, Robin was great. Prior to this class, I had taken a 2-day course on Dreamweaver through another organization, and I can say I learned a lot more through the AcademyX class. I really appreciate that Robin taught us how to code, rather than work in the design view of Dreamweaver. Also, she had us do everything by hand, rather than allow Dreamweaver to autocomplete and that was appreciated because I personally learn from doing. Thanks Robin!

As a technical writer, I've taken training courses all over the place, from all sorts of providers - universities, community colleges, corporations, and industry associations. I'd say that on the whole, AcademyX was the best of the lot. I've taken four courses there - Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, and Flash - and they were all engaging and  packed with useful information. I've had two different instructors, and they were both experts in using the software and had many years of real-world experience. I took the Photoshop class with a friend who thought she knew pretty much everything about graphic formats, and even she learned something new  - about color matching and how to deal with different kinds of print vendors. We used the tips we learned at our AcademyX course the very next day to improve the graphics on our manual covers.

The classes are small enough that you almost feel like you're getting personalized instruction. AcademyX gives each student two monitors, which allows you to follow the instructor's mouse movements/keystrokes on one monitor and copy them on your other one. I find this approach to be much more helpful than watching a projected image when trying to learn complex applications like Illustrator or Flash.

Most surprising to me was that the training was actually fun! (In a couple of classes, the instructor handed out cookies!). I can't say that about other training classes I've taken.

I just found out they're offering a 24-evening Google web marketing course. I'm considering taking it, even though I'm no longer working at a company that will pay for my training. I'm confident that the course will be worth the cost and give me knowledge and skills I can use to promote my consulting business.

I've taken several classes here including HTML, CSS, SEO, PayPerClick. The facilities are exceptional, newish, great PC/ Macs, classroom setup complete with teacher's monitor and whiteboards.  They have coffee, filtered water, tea for you -- and if you bring a lunch they also have a small refrigerator and microwave.  But there's plenty of eating places around there (they are located directly across from the TransAmerica building).  I want to plug one instructor, Robin Sease, who was excellent in teaching the HTML and CSS class. Really knows her stuff and her training style is great -- patient, thorough and encourages lots of questions.

I've just started here and the classes are a little too short, but AcademyX is a great school with superb instructors. I'm unemployed and know I'll have to wait a while until jobs are available ... say, 2014. For now, having my funding paid for by the WIA is wonderful. AcademyX made a personal course load for me over about three months, which worked well. Started with Photoshop, then completed HTMl fundamentals. Now I'm headed into CSS, Dreamweaver, Flash, ActionScript, etc.
